When did Marjorie become Jill's sponsor

I've been doing a rewatch and in the beginning Christy was Jill's sponsor and was asking Christy for help and then in the later seasons she'd be calling Marjorie but there was no specific scene about her switching to Marjorie.

I know those two had a big fight about the baby thing maybe that's when she stopped viewing Christy as her sponsor.

Also with law school Christy had become a little self centered and unhelpful so makes senses for Jill to go to Marjorie

Who was Wendy's closest friend in the group?

I'm going with Jill. They seemed to have a bond, which may have been written in that way because they joined the cast at around the same time. But they had more moments together, specifically supporting each other; examples:

Wendy being there for, whenever she knew, Jill during her relapses.

Jill trying to arrange special celebrations for Wendy's promotion.

Sober retreat; Jill keeping Wrndy company and playing cards with her.

When Wendy felt guilty about a patient dying, and Jill said something about her having a tough job.

Dancing and pottery.

Bonnie did have a few moments with Wendy, as well: when Mary died, when Wendy was dating the married doctor, etc.

Discussion i liked s8

TLDR --- i liked season 8 more than christy’s seasons. the show felt more mature, but i wish they’d found another way to keep the mother-daughter dynamic.

it's long , kinda me ranting.

i actually kind of liked season 8, and i wish we’d gotten more of it. honestly, i didn’t really miss christy’s absence, or anna faris leaving, because it felt like christy’s character had stopped growing. sure, she went to law school and got a job, but it still felt like we were getting the same version of christy over and over again. even if we weren’t expecting some perfect, happily ever after storyline for her, it still felt like the writers never really gave anna faris anything new to work with. every time i rewatch season 8, the show just feels so much more mature. yes, it’s still a funny sitcom, but it feels like a sitcom about adults. even though christy was an adult, she never really came across as one. she always felt more like the destructive spoiled teenage daughter, and that made the show a little less relatable for me.
so yeah, i guess that’s my hot take.
at the same time, i do realize that the mother-daughter dynamic, which was such a huge part of mom in s1-s3 (mom, roscoe, violet grandma) was lost after christy left.
i think there were a few ways they could’ve kept that part of the show alive. maybe they could’ve moved the story forward by giving jill a daughter around the same age violet was at the beginning, while showing jill becoming a better mother because she had bonnie’s guidance. i think that could’ve been a really interesting storyline.
or maybe they could’ve had jill adopt a child, which would’ve preserved that mother-daughter relationship in a different way.
another idea is that they could’ve brought violet back. maybe she starts missing the daughter she gave up in season 1 and tries to reconnect with her. i think something like that could’ve worked too.

but only for some kind of an episode. not more than that. violet is definitely better than that. really wanted to know how her interesting life turned out.

Tiny/Random things/moments you like from the series.

Not the big stuff, not the important stuff.

It can be a random funny line or how somebody reacted to a particular scene.

For me:

I like how Wendy was given the last line of the series.

Christy and Bonnie moments

There are a lot of posts about how awful one or both are, as well as their worst traits and moments, so I'd like to post something different...

What is your favorite sweet or tender moment or story between Christy and Bonnie?

I think mine is probably the Christmas episode when Patty comes to stay with them. Bonnie has a bit of a breakdown, but Christy tells her she has forgiven her and the past doesn't hurt anymore. I really love that scene with them.

A close second is after Alvin dies and Christy finds Bonnie in a bar about to drink. Christy orders herself some drinks and says to Bonnie, "you and me, Thelma and Louise over the cliff..." But neither of them drink.

Adam Adam's flirts/crushes

I like how he was attracted to women his age. The crush on Louise from trader joe's and being all nervous about how beautiful Wendy was at the dedication ceremony.

I appreciate when shows do this because most men in my life prefer to date women who look real and are close to them in age, but the older younger thing is represented way more in media.

Christy Christy

Christy was always so selfish, and was never really held accountable for her actions. She was always just given a pass it seemed.

Currently watching the one where she gambles her earrings.

Comedy

And this is probably the funniest show I’ve ever watched and I’ve had a hard time finding one that’s equally as humorous. Any recommendations? Preferably on Netflix, Paramount +, Prime Video, or HBO max

thanks

Christy The bad habits I share with Christy.

I'm currently re-watching Mom, it had been a while. I suddenly felt compelled to watch it again, first with clips on youtube, but that wasn't enough. I even canceled our HBO account and switched back to Netflix in order to see my girls again.

I've been struggling with quitting smoking, and I hate, hate, hate watching Christy struggle with it, too. It's so triggering for me, because it's the one thing I haven't been able to quit. I did switch to vaping, and have absolutely no desire to go back to cigarettes again. Stopping vaping is really scary for me right now. But I'm determined to do it, especially with my husband in the hospital. Hes not doing well, and I need to be strong. I'm just going to keep watching until I get through the worst of it.

On a lighter note, the scene with Jill and Christy in Eight Cats and the Hat Show where they're driving back home from shopping? Jill says, "Oh look, here’s your outlet stores. And there’s even a Der Weinerschnitzel." When Christy says, "Yayyyy! Der Weinerschnitzel!", I feel so seen. If that was me, I'd have the same enthusiasm and excitement! I'm not proud of it, but there it is.

I'm so glad I found this sub! Thank you all for being here. I had no idea how much I needed this right now.

Discussion Similarities in Chuck Lorre shows

The only other Lorre show I've watched is Two and a Half Men, but I've noticed similarities, which does happens with writers, in storylines and dialog.

But one thing I just noticed in "Xanax and a Baby Duck," was Christy questioning Roscoe pooping at night. On Men, Alan did the same thing to Jake.

Both pretty much were standing outside the bathroom questioning the kid pooping in the evening. It's just such a strange thing to me to question the time of someone's bowel movements, and for him to have put it in both shows seems all the odder.

Still sleeping in the same bed?

So I am pretty far into season 4 and at this point there's no kids living with them full time, from the looks of it they might have Roscoe every other weekend. Why in the world would Bonnie and Christy still be sleeping in the same bed every single night? I know it makes for some good comedy but I don't think it's very realistic, if there is an empty bed more time than not then why not use it? Anyhow, not sure why that is bugging me, anyone else?

Other Cast memebers I really wish the kept Travis (Jodi's boyfriend) Spoiler

I just finished my first watch, and I feel like there could've been some great story lines w/ Travis (just as a recurring cast member, maybe as much as they used Mary) about him getting sober after the guilt of what he did to Jodi. Anyhow, mom is such an amazing show! Basically a hilarious documentary! I love AA group and Adam!

I've also never seen a show lose a main cast member and stay just as good. Yeah, you could tell Christy was missing in season 8, but it was still great!

Other Cast memebers How I would of liked to see a Wendy episode play out

I know never really got a Wendy-centric episode, just small and fascinating tidbits of her life here and there, and that is kinda how the archetype of her character was played out - the lost or overlooked one.

However (in my head), if there was ever a Wendy centric episode, I feel like it would be us (the audience) following her around for a day, revealing a colourful, interesting and detailed day... and of course when the girls are at the Bistro after their meeting, and Wendy starts to talk about it, she's interrupted by Bonnie ranting about Diet Coke or something trivial like that to drive home the home nobody knows much about Wendy.

Except us now, the audience lol

I know this style of episode has been done plenty of times before in other shows and is kinda its own trope - off the top of my head I can think of 'Buffy' (the TV show) as an example - the third season episode 'The Zeppo' centers around Xander (the ordinary one of the group) while the rest of the Scooby Gang is off stopping an apocalypse, Xander is thought of as a liability and left behind, only to have his own big adventure.

So I see a Wendy episode would've been like that (just with less vampires).

Other Cast memebers Kevin Pollak as an absent father

I’m watching The Neighborhood right now, and one of the main characters has a father that walked out on him as a child who returns when he’s an adult. The actor playing the absent father is none other than Kevin Pollak, who played Alvin on Mom. I thought it was funny that both times I’ve seen that that actor, he’s playing an absent father trying to remedy his mistakes. 😂

Finale That finale… Spoiler

Just finished another rewatch of the whole show, and man that finale gets me every time. I started tearing up before Bonnie’s final speech even started. Did anyone else notice that Wendy/Beth Hall had tears in her eyes when she went up to the podium to give the last line. Either that was the character reacting to Bonnie’s speech, or it was the actor processing the emotions of ending of the show.

Before I discovered this show, I thought the sitcom was dead. There’s something very special about this one. The last season was a bit uneven, especially after Anna Faris‘s departure, but I think they still stuck the landing in the finale. Thoughts?

Christy Anna Faris on SCARY MOVIE, LOST IN TRANSLATION, MOM, THE HOUSE BUNNY, Ro...

Because of the press tour for Scary Movie, Anna has been doing a lot of interviews lately, and I was hoping one of them would touch on Mom. She recently sat down with Josh Horowitz, and Mom came up in the conversation, so I thought I'd share it here.

Her departure from the show always felt a bit strange, and this interview makes it clear that there was a lot happening behind the scenes that the public didn't know about. Although she wasn't ready to go into detail, it seems there were factors influencing her decision that haven't been fully discussed yet. I hope we get to hear her side of the story one day.

There was also a new video from Variety released today in which she spoke very highly of Allison Janney. That makes me think any issues may have been more with the producers, along with some personal issues she was dealing with at the time.

Anna Faris on SCARY MOVIE, LOST IN TRANSLATION, MOM, THE HOUSE BUNNY, Robert Pattinson, & more!

Christy Christie in season 7

I don’t like how Christie was written in Season 7, it feels like she reverted to child-like behaviour. And in some ways, it makes sense since her relationship with Bonnie was improving and she was getting the care she once craved for. But it feels like a lot of her growth from the previous seasons were just erased and she was given lines that were childish, desperate for love, or just out of topic blurts.
Even if they were trying to write her out, in my opinion it could’ve been done in a way to continue showing her growth.

Christy Opinion: Christy self-sabotaged her relationship with Patrick and used her career and sobriety as get away.

While re-watching the show now for the billionth time, I have realised Christy low-key deserved every bad thing that happened to her. Well, not all of it, but most of it, yes.

One reason that frustrated me about the breakup is that Patrick wasn't portrayed at all as a controlling or unsupportive guy. He wasn't asking Christy to give up law school, nor was he threatening her sobriety. He just wanted a place in her future. Wish I had a guy like that.

And Christy couldn't—or wouldn't—make room for him.

Now, here's what's fascinating: Bonnie, who spent years making self-destructive relationship choices, eventually learned to accept healthy love with Adam. Christy, who constantly blamed Bonnie for her lack of ability to have a healthy relationship, conveniently overlooked Bonnie's successful relationships with Alvin and Adam while sabotaging her own relationship with Patrick.
