📕 Book Showcase I like older mass-market paperbacks
I know they are not everyone's cup of tea, but I think they can be really charming. The cover designs are often unique, and colored edges on the paper?? Love it. I know new editions are "nicer", but when you can find these for $1 or $2, to me it's a no-brainer.

💭 Question Help Identifying
Would you call this a first edition 43000 printing range? Also the cover isn’t quite matching up with what I would expect a first edition to look like. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

📜 Old Books Found this rare peace
Can’t believe it was in church and in the kids section with all the children’s books I found this, a obscure book called play school no information on it at all and now I have a copy as they gave it to me, good condition and hadn’t been used hasn’t been coloured in or written on no tears, brilliant condition
Very obscure and rare ☺️

💬 General If it has a different cover, it should have a different ISBN
In this essay I will...
But seriously does anyone else feel that if a book's cover is different that it's a different version of the book? For me, I've determined that I am both a book reader and a book collector (and those are very different hobbies) and so book cover art is a lot more important to me than to some others.

⌛ Rare Books Wanted: Leonardo Sciascia - L'Affaire Moro (1978, 2nd Edition, Sellerio).
I am a local Redding, California collector who accidentally donated this limited-edition copy of Leonardo Sciascia's L'Affaire Moro to the Redding, California Goodwill in March 2026. It is in Italian and is roughly 6" x 8" and 1/2" thick. This book holds immense personal meaning, as I received it directly from the author in 1980.
If you happen to be the person who purchased it or if you have seen it, I would be deeply grateful for the opportunity to buy it back - l am prepared to pay a generous premium, no questions asked.
If you have purchased books from either the Redding or Red Bluff locations since March, can you please check you collection?
Please respond to this post or reach out to me directly via Facebook DM if you have it. Thank you for your time and help.

📚 Book Collection Here's my full collection so far. Cover art peaked in the 80s and 90s, and it's been all downhill ever since.
Book covers just aren't what they used to be. Here's my collection, all from around 1984-2001, and not a single one had a bland cover. When I see new books in the shops, the covers all just look so bland and ugly to me. They say "don't judge a book by its cover", but you eat with your eyes first, if the dish doesn't look appetising, you're not gonna bother to find out how it tastes - and the same applies to books and their covers.

💬 General Whose signature will you never be able to trust as being authentic? For me, it’s Dr. Seuss. Unless there’s iron clad provenance, I’ll never trust anything I see in the wild…
8th grader-esque signature right there.

📚 Book Collection My ever-growing collection; I might even read some of them someday!
These days, I get most of my books from second-hand stores and charity book sales, letting me grow a rather impressive library (to me, anyway), especially for older books and classics.

📦 New Acquisitions Former Vice President Hubert H Humphrey book gifted by his Wife with a letter
One of my cool finds today.
The letter, shown in the post, was to a Mrs. Herrick S Roth, wife of Herrick S Roth. The Mr served in WWII, served terms in both the Colorado House and Senate, and was president of the Colorado Labor Council. He passed in 2008. I believe the Mrs was Marjorie Land Roth, as she was noted in Herrick’s obituary as his significant other, however I can’t confirm if he remarried or not. She passed in 2012.
The letter is personally signed by Muriel Humphrey, the former vice president’s wife, just seven years before Hubert’s death. Hubert ran for president in 1968 and lost to Richard Nixon… unfortunately. He sought the democratic nominations again in 1972 near the time of this letter.
The book itself is a hard one to find. I’ve seen photos of sold copies, which carry similar inscriptions, most from Humphrey himself. I imagine, pure assumptions here, this book was privately printed and only handed out by either him or his wife. It features a note from Harry S Truman to Humphrey during the time of the latter’s vice presidential term. The correction in said note had a print error which Truman corrected, and at first I thought that meant this had a been a real Truman signature, however, from the photos of the other copies I saw the same note and signature/correction within the book, so it is indeed printed.
Truman and Humphrey have an interesting history together, and as I go learning more about that history, I urge others to do the same as it really is a fun piece of American History.
If more information specifically about this book or carried content arises, I will make a comment to this post. And if anyone has different information about it, please inform me. Thanks.
