Lore Am i not alone in the manor? Spoiler

Upvotes

New player here, got around 6 hours in. Absolutely loved the game, it's borderline creepy at times yet also beautiful. Also i had this mental thought that despite the backroomish and creepy atmosphere at times, it won't go further than that.

Then i found the Rumpus Room. My first prophecy with Alzara is the one with the red cat with a flag. I thought "Hey this dude gives me clues in riddles, i should come here more often". Hell i even changes its rarity with the conservatory.

The second one is more helpful, i got the one with the car. At my first hour or two i found the car keys but didn't manage to find the garage so i got really excited when i eventually find it.

Then my third Rumpus Room came along. Inserted the coin, expecting my silhouette came up from the smoke

Instead it showed a guy with a hat? In front of the dark room? He opened a gate that i didn't open? Took an item that i didn't take?? Is the guy watching me rn in the room besides the Rumpus Room???

Alzara's monologue also didn't help, yessir i am very much afraid, panicking even

So can i encounter the mysterious person in real time or it's just something that's happening in the background?

MinorSpoiler I have a vision Spoiler

Upvotes

I wasn't able to find this done through a basic search online, but I've been drafting Hallway after Hallway, and a thought occurred to me: is it possible to make an estate with nothing but orange rooms?

Of course, you'd have to allow for other orange rooms beyond the upgraded Hallway, but I really want to try to do this one day. Has anyone else done it/gotten close? This would require all possible rooms to be orange, which also requires a lot of Hallways, specifically the version that adds more Hallways to the draft.

I've reached room 46, but I'm still going through the late game content, so no spoilers please. I do have the Vestibule unlocked and know of the chess pieces' powers.

Lore How to pronounce…??? Spoiler

My friend and I disagree on the pronunciation of Mora Jai. She pronounces the Jai with a hard J like “jive”. I’ve been pronouncing it like “hi”. I believe it’s pronounced “hi” because of how the sport Jai Alai is pronounced.
This is just for fun! I’m curious how other people pronounce it!

POST-CREDITS-SPOILER Should I Feel Bad About Using Hints? Spoiler

blue paths is a lovely website that has just gotten me through the "XYZ-ABC" thing. (I was told my thinking was wrong by some people when I was right all along...) plotting the demise of filthy liars aside, I knew most of what to do from there. unscramble the book covers and figure out where to go from there.

I got all of them... except for the red prince. i thought it was exclusively library books.

then when decoding the message, I though the word for "the fixed stars" was "A" because I forgot to include the word "Preface" when figuring that out.

and I remembered seeing a sundial somewhere but for the life of me I couldn't remember where, so I continued, and it told me it was in the orchard (which I remember now)

as bad as I do feel about looking these up, I'd like to still say I figured it out myself. the sundial thing is something I *never* would've found a second time just given I haven't visited the orchard since turning on the gas there, and ruled it out as a place to ever return to.

so, would yall feel bad about using hints?

Draft X from X... Spoiler

so my boy just got a shelter in the outer room, set up an experiment to get +1 allowance when drafting a hallway from another hallway, he then got a westwing hall, above that a Foyer (which unlocks all hallway doors), and above that a tunnel, which led to 5 more tunnels. I didn't know you could draft a tunnel in a corner slot, but he did, and at the end of the tunnel was a blocked way, with 2 gems and an allowance Corarica Mora Jai Box! who knew?!

Unfortunately he's a numpty when it comes to drafting, so he managed to block up his entrances to the foundation, and then ran out of keys and only got to rank 6 elsewhere, so hasn't managed to open the antechamber to get a basement key whilst also being able to go down the foundation.... he's on day 39 and despite me helping him he's still not got into Rm 46...

Bug Steamdeck - black screen on call it a day Spoiler

Like in a title. It happens randomly every time I have suspiciously good day (like finding 2 vault keys and opening it in 1 day plus doing the heist, or getting Convervatory with Throne and Throphy room - which I have at 0 cost due to Axe - and setting these 2 to common, or when I do all pump puzzle in 1 day - bottom of resrvoir and cave and swim shorts in the pool).

I tried to install proton people recommended (I think it was Proton-GE) or use Proton Hotfix - both didnt help, I also added launch option in steam so the game is started with steamdeck native resolution every time. Didn't help too...

When I call it a day its sometimes black sceen and music forever, blind clicking doesnt do anything, I need to force exit and lose my progress of the day. I stopped playing due to that as it's very frustrating and happens only when I do significant progress in 1 day. I am only at day 46, so the save file shouldnt be enormous (I heard poeple go to 100+ days).

Any ideas? I'd like to finish the game, but it feels impossible at this point.

Darkroom Power Bug? Spoiler

Thumbnail gallery
10 Upvotes

Ok everyone, thanks for the replies, I get it. Working as intended and that intent is to be annoying as hell...

I'm experiencing what seems to be a bug with the Darkroom - it is not getting power when I draft it from an Electric Eel Aquarium. I see the blue power ducting activate but when I enter the Darkroom it trips the breaker just like it does when no power is applied.

I remember that this worked for me exactly once before in the game, where the power in the Darkroom stayed on when I entered from a powered room. But after that it has reverted to this behaviour.

Power passthrough is working, though as you can see in screenshot 3, I'm not able to see the room I'm drafting even though the power is going to it (so at least I cant tell it's a utility room that uses power).

This is a bug, right? Or am I fundamentally misunderstanding how powering the Darkroom is supposed to work?

DO NOT SCROLL IF YOU HAVE NOT FOUND THE ATTILLIER

So I was going over the 4 possible paths for the Attillier, being only following red, only following pink, only following orange, and the true path. These combined with the painting puzzles for each room they go through spell anagrams (I think thats the word) of the following words: Swansong (For blue) Oneself (For Purple), Mother (For orange), and Empty (For red). These words have the same number of letters as the gallery solutions, and I was wondering if anyone tried to put those words as the gallery solutions.

Room Can't find an easy? room Spoiler

WHERE is the foundation??

For context: I have found room 46. I have found an entrance to the underground/reservoir through the fountain, through the chamber of torches + Precipice, and through the Tomb. I can also get to the Basement through the sealed entrance.

Tonight I had a great run, where I almost filled my entire mansion with rooms, reached room 46 again, and I had a keycard + basement key. So I went back to the Basement, opened the second door, where I found an elevator button and a keycard pad. But after activating it... nothing happened.

I was so confused that I went to search about it, without spoiling too much. And apparently I need to first find the Foundation's elevator to be able to call it down. Thing is... I can not find any information on how to get to the Foundation.

I have 40+ hours on the game, ~30 runs, with almost every room found in the directory. But somehow I can't figure out how to get to this place.

MajorSpoiler Rooms I made up in my day dreaming Spoiler

I don't have any art for them, and I didn't think to long about them so they're lretty unbalanced and need balancing, also idk if I should have added any other flairs, but there will be a lot of spoilers in the details of how the rooms work and what secrets they have. Tbh they aren't very good rooms, but they do sound fun to play with.

Most of these rooms have 1 thing in common, floorplans as a resource.

The Amalgamizer Color: Blueprint, Blackprint Type: all of them Effect: This room is every type of room. Combine floorplans Cost: 5 gems Has 1 door for every prismatic room (does not have to be already drafted) Secrets: If the prism key is used on any of its doors, it reveals a staircase up to a third north entrance lever, where there is also a lever to make the room a power source. If you are unabble to continue drafting and have no prismatic rooms, it can be drafted outside, even if ybou don't have the floorplan, but its rarity is rare and requires having drafted all the regular 8 outside rooms before. If it is drafted outside (with the floorplan, without the floorplan, or using the monk's blessing) it will replace the lever for power with the floorplan of itself, the staircase up will be there, but with a door only openable by the prism key. Fusing: aquarium + workshop + mechanarium + the prism key

The Hardware Store Color: Blackprint, Shop Type: Outer room Effect: Buy and sell floorplans with allowance tokens. It randomly generates requirements and sell prices for when selling a floorplan, it then gives you three options you can only sell once per draft and/or reroll, if the requirements don't fit any floorplan, nor if you remove 1 of any of the requirements, then it allows you to sell any floorplan and get a fixed amount for that specific floorplan. It picks 3 random floorplans that have already been drafted before for you to buy. The inkwell, dice and the study all allow both sells and buys to be rerolled. Fusing: Trading Post + Repellent Spray

Cursed Laundromat Color: Red, Shop, Dead-end Rarity: Rare Effect: If you have less than 4 red rooms, lose all your special items. 8 special items are up for sale, including permanent floorplans for floorplanless rooms (Secret Garden, Room 8, Morning Room) and Classrooms, up for sale for quarter price of other shops (floorplans cost coins, unlike the hardware store). Secrets: If next to Lavatory, 4 random of the items/floorplans will show up for free in the lavatory the next time its drafted. For every classroom you draft past the final exam, increase your allowance by 5 Fusion: Laundry room + Lost and found + the cursed effige/deadly stone

The Serious Room Color: Red Type: Dead end Effect: Lose 1 of every resource (key, coin, dice, gem and step) for every room already drafted, gaurantee a red room every draw, lose 1 star for every time you've drafted The Serious Room, and make dead ends twice as common. But, if you draft all the red rooms you have, gain 100 of every resource, 50 stars, and add 50 coins to your allowance. Secrets: When shielded, gain all the collected coins as allowance. Fusion: Conference Room + Lavatory + Chappel

The Dungeons Color: Blackprint Type: Drafting, Outside Effect: Lose 10 steps and spread 3 allowance tokens in The Dungeon, each time you draft a Blackprint Secrets: The same as the tomb Upgraded from the tomb

The Elevator Color: Red Room Type: Mechanical, Multi-story Effect: For each elevator press, gain a star for every multi-story room (clock tower, library, attic, chamber of mirrors) in the estate and grounds, but lose a random tile of the estate for today and tommorow. Fusion: Rotanda + Observatory

The Chess Room Color: Blueprint Type: Drafting, Dead-end Cost: 5 gems Rarity: Unusual Effect: Make a combination of 3 rooms to go together, the next time you draft any of those rooms all the other rooms are connected at no cost if possible, otherwise it will switch the position of two random rooms. Secrets: Has a random chess piece Fusion: Conservatory + Ornate Compass

The Pasture: Color: Green Room Type: Drafting, Spread Effect: Adds a lavatory to the draft pool today for every 5 Kennels you've ever drafted, and unseals an ante chamber door for every lavatory drafted today. Fusion: Cloister + kennel

Item Mount Holly Mathematics Spoiler

Hi everyone!

I wanted to dig in a little deeper to the mathematics of the slot machines in the Casino. Building on the work from this post, I built an entire simulator of the slot machine using the probabilities defined there.

Once you know the probabilities, you can develop an optimal strategy from which you can derive the expected value of the machine given a fixed starting number of bonus spins. Here are the results:

Number of Initial Bonus Spins Expected Value of Game (assuming optimal play)
0 -0.305
1 -0.122
2 -0.011
3 0.096
4 0.208
5 0.332

I was surprised to learn that the standard 3-bonus slot machine has a (barely) positive expected value!

Anyway, if you're a math nerd like me and want to dig into the models in more detail or learn more about the trends in expected payout as the strategy or number of spins changes, I've got more detais here: https://mattlane.us/stories/coin-operator enjoy!

Later game puzzle Spoiler

I got to the the underpass and I reached the gate with a combination lock. Each wheel has several different letters and the last wheel includes the number eight. Where can I find a clue to this combination lock? I can see that in the room is a red letter red gem and blueprints and an update and I can’t tell what else.

MajorSpoiler I’ve beaten this game, but a few mysteries remain. Spoiler

Personally, I really enjoyed this game, but there’s still something that bothers me.

1.The in-game hints suggest there are eight safes, but where is the eighth one?

2.I collected seven red letters—are these just collectibles, or are they used to solve puzzles?

3.Has no one in the world found the third letter? Why would the creator do something like this?

Puzzle Looking for a nudge in the right direction Spoiler

I feel like I don't really know where to look anymore, and the puzzles I know I should finish I feel like I don't have all the clues for them yet.

As of now, I have...

  • ...7/8 keys: missing only"king on its throne" key
  • ..."turned the scorched sundial" but I am missing one microchip
  • ..."checked every space"but I don't know what to do with this clue
  • ...broken the underground's wall with CASTLE writtenbut again I have no idea how to handle this
  • ... drafted the treasure trove outside the housebut don't know how to unlock the chest

I am now kind of aimlessly wandering in the house trying to find clues I might have missed, but I have no idea on what to focus next.

Any help with as little spoilers as possible would be great, thanks!

Bug Duplicate room bug Spoiler

After drafting a Studio, I drew the same set of rooms that I did the room before (as in the same set of rooms that I drafted the Studio from). Initially I thought "huh, that's weird". I didn't have a Chamber of Mirrors and the order of the rooms I drew was the exact same as the ones I drew before. I thought I got really lucky to experience a room synergy and chose the Studio again: my game froze right after and I had no other option but to force quit.

Is this a known bug? I've never experienced this before and I lament the fact that this game doesn't have a midday autosave system considering that a lot of things can go wrong in a hours-long run. Even though there is no real urgency to complete the game in a set amount of days it is still time wasted for the player through no fault of his own if he runs into something like this.

POST-CREDITS-SPOILER Guidance on Late Game Spoiler

Hey everyone, I would love some guidance. I'm at a point where I feel like I've done all the major things, and it feels like I only have some dangling puzzles left, so I'm tempted to stop. I'm not a completionist, I'm mostly here for the lore, so if there's still something really cool to see, I'm definitely open to diving back in. But the last big puzzle left me feeling disappointed in the rewards, like the effort didn't match the outcome.

To recap, I have:

* Been crowned the Blue Prince

* Gotten through the crate tunnel and got my "reward" (this is the one I feel disappointed by, if you couldn't guess)

* Found the grid of words in the vault

As of right now, it feels like all I have left to do is rack up stars trying to get to 100, get more blue tents notes, and try to keep getting the telescope to get more planets in the planetarium, which all sound like extremely tedious tasks. Is there anything else really worth seeing in the game, or should I pretend the crowning was the end of the game that I wanted, and move on to another puzzle game?
