I just finished building my forge. What do y'all think?

Slowly getting there! The new one was a lot easier to work on because I forged the bevels in so took a lot less grinding

I made these door hangers to sell , and I want your opinion on how much I should sell stuff like this for. i’m not afraid of criticism so just say what’s on your mind . also which design do you think is better? Another thing is I’m thinking about selling these for or designs like this for $10-$15. Do you think I should go higher or go lower on the price?
Edit: I live in the Fort Wayne area code and also close to Harland IN so that also might affect prices I live in an Amish rich area

Blacksmith forging a re-enactor renaissance faire Raven headed cloak pin. These have many names: penannular brooch, kilt pin, blanket pin etc but they all take the same basic shape. Hey folks these three items popped up on FB marketplace in my area. Messaging the seller it turns out these were their father's, who passed away a few years ago.

I'm not a good metal fabricator but these look like really sturdy units. I'm hoping to take a look in person and get some more photos. They said the press is 24 tons (The Orange Crush $4500) but not sure on the power hammer (The Thing $1800). The propane forge (listed $450) looks like a beast as well. I don't think I've seen one with 5 burners before.

I've used power hammers in the passed but not a forge press yet. Wondering what I should look for in either of these units? They look self contained/no air compressor needed but I could be wrong. I have an extra 220 V outlet and the sub panel should support a few more.

I run an induction forge currently so a propane forge that big would actually be awesome for heating large pieces evenly and $450 seems like a super low price. I would likely try and bundle all three together (if my wife will let me) for $5-6k. Does that price point seem fair? I'm in central NC, they don't have anyone in the family who uses them and want them to go to a good home.

EDIT: Met with the seller and posted a few videos/extra photos on the comments. I didn't take a photo of the inside of the forge but the lining looked good and likely not cancerous. Both the forge and press were on casters so not terrible to load onto a trailer.

The power hammer on the other hand did not budge when I went to jostle it so it is hella heavy or bolted down and I just didn't notice. Not sure how I'd get that one on a trailer.

Offered him 5k for all three which I think is fair for how much garage space they could clear up. If he goes for it I'll update this post and maybe add a workshop update when they're in place!

Had a wicked storm for the past two days, and when I took the tarp off, I found this massive mushroom on my recently mounted anvil stump. Any ideas as to how I could prevent this? I have taken the mushroom off, sprayed the area with a borax and water mixture, and burned the area once it was dry to get rid of as much moisture as possible. Then I sprayed it with some paint and rubbed some boiled linseed oil on the area. Maybe overkill, but I'd like to hear some suggestions.

Hi! A quick question for those that make their own things from nothing. How to you go about preparing to make them? ado you sketch it all out in a journal as a step by step guide? Hammer into clay before every step? Something entirely different? I wanted to ask before making any investments one way or the other. Thanks!

We made a vice jig to make the handles

Made out of a munch of 4x4s, the leg will sit on a piece of brass in a recess drilled in the wood. Still need to forge out the bits that are gonna hold it to the post.

I’m a noob and doubt I need this, but I still want to know what it’s for. Oddly enough, 2 are for sale near me from different sellers, and neither has any idea what they’re for. I checked Black Bear Forge’s “Swages - Tool of the Day” video to no avail. Maybe it’s not a swage, but I can’t imagine what else it could be. Any direction out there from the forging hive mind?

There is no scrap in blacksmithing. Old wedge is C40.

I am planning to forge this to a dagger or something is it possible? If it is i am open for a advice

Blade still needs to be heat treated and cleaned up, but I have never done a handle yet, other than the classic blacksmith knife. Should anything change with the tang before adding the wood?

Fully forged from 1/4 in flat stock, 1084 using hammer and anvil. Currently sitting at close to 3/16th for the blade

I made this roasting skewer yesterday out of a piece of rebar (don't ask me what size) and I drew it out to twice the length and yes ik it's a bit thick but I'm making another one so just imagine the photo but it hasn't been grinded round and it's going to be thinner and longer with a better finish, and I'd love any ideas and suggestions.

Blacksmith forging a divination dowsing pendulum combined with a candle scribe. These are forged out of steel rebar that has been twisted. Usually twisting a round bar doesn’t result in anything but twisting rebar creates really interesting patterns in the steel. #blacksmith #blacksmithing #divination #dowsing
