Wizard Wizard. In the beginning.

So we've started a playthrough with some friends of mine and one of them's really dissapointed with how weak her wizard is right now. Like it's only lvl 3 and she's using necromancy with a kinda default build, but like she is like REALLY weak. In *any* possible fight it is a real challenge for her to do literally anything, basically, cause.. she's either dead or silenced (upd: charmed. I'm a fcking idiot. It was just a really long encounter for us withg the harpies, apparently because we weren't... lucky enough, so I just made an example out of it, sorry for misinforming :D). Most of the time it's really that bad and I just can't see how upset she is about her choice (she really likes wizards in general but this thing... yeah, it really gets her).

So.. what could be done? Just any words of advice, I'd really appreciate it!

Build Help I want to butcher my wizard.

Hello,

I have a multiplayer game coming up, and I would like to play as a self-aggrandizing jerk of a wizard who is willing to do almost anything for power, and I would like to sacrifice my wizard's body to do it. I happen to know that there are several ways to maim your character for bonuses, mostly the brand of the absolute, Volo's eye, and the astral tadpole.

What are some other ways I can butcher myself for power boosts? Is there anything obvious or thematic that I'm missing? If I could lose a leg for an extra spell slot that would be great.

May not be optimal but would it be a good combination, specifically on a ranger warlock?

Build Help Fighter Archery Build - Please recommend me something other than bard

It's my first run and I'm trying to make an archer focused on ranged attacks with bows, who wears light armor and can do SOME melee damage with a knife/dual knives. Think something like Legolas from LOTR. Currently I'm level 7 and in Grymforge so no spoilers please.

So far I'm a 20 dex, 8 str Battle Master Fighter and at this level or the next it feels like if I'm gonna multiclass at all, this is the time to do it. Currently I think my character's lacking proficiency in stuff like sleight of hand and some dialogue stuff like persuasion, so I'm looking at going into rogue, potentially for thief or swashbuckler, though I'm not really interested in doing stealth in combat.

I've seen people recommending me swords bard for this and I feel like that wouldn't fit my character so I'm looking for other options, which I guess includes just staying battle master till 12.

Build Help Advice on full caster class/multiclass for solo HM run

I've solo'd the game with all the martial classes now. The closest I've come to using a caster is a bardadin and a sorcadin, but they don't really count as I'm just using the slots for my smites.

I want to run a full caster, but each time I try, I end up dead, and normally before leaving Act I. I struggle with the low AC and lack of crit protection of full casters, which means one lucky shot from an enemy is enough to end the run there and then.

Any advice on a build, and special tactics I should use,

Specific Mechanic How long is Shillelagh good for?

I am a recent Shillelagh convert, and using it on my spore druid. Just got to level 4 in the goblin camp, and wondering how long until I should switch to a different weapon? I like the druid being able to get up in melee a bit but wild shape and other weapons are obviously powerful.

When I look up info online, I often just see 'first few levels' or 'early game' - what are some of the weapons I should be looking for to replace torch + Shillelagh?

Build Help achilles build

Now that The Odyssey is in theaters and as someone who has read both the Iliad, The Odyssey, and The Song of Achilles I am thinking of running a roleplay game featuring Achilles and Patroclus.

Any build ideas? A safe choice for Achilles might be at least 11 levels of Fighter / 1 level of Cleric, and maybe a Cleric build for Patroclus. I’m planning to play my Tav as Achilles and have Gale as Patroclus. Even though their personalities are quite different, I don't really know who else could fit the role while still allowing for a romance option.

For the setup, I'm thinking medium armor + shield, taking the Sharpshooter feat, and using a spear as the main weapon.

Build Review Theorycrafting an Odysseus build: 6/4/2 Swords bard archer

With the new Nolan Odyssey out (go see it!) I was thinking about how you might build an Odysseus character. This is not a meta build but I'm thinking

6 swords bard: Odysseus is a fighter but he's also a talker who tells (and invents) stories to cruise past dialogue checks. He uses disguises. He's also associated with archery, so I'm going to recommend going archer with this build.

4 battlemaster fighter: He's a strategist and a deadly warrior. Nuff said.

2 rogue: Odysseus definitely has some roguish elements. He has maybe the greatest "sneak attack" in the literary canon plus two other great ones: the night raid in Iliad Book X and poking out Polyphemus' eye.

For gear the only thing I think you definitely want is the classic Titanstring/Hill Giant club pair, since Odysseus is famously the only one who can bend his bow. Pretend that the club is actually the stick that poked Polyphemus's eye and it's magically endowed, idk.

Any other ideas for such a build? I thought about potentially going 4 swashbuckler 2 fighter instead of 4 battlemaster 2 rogue. The bard spell slots are probably not going to get a ton of action unless you use the band of the mystic scoundrel, but they aren't the primary draw anyway. You could just do classic 10/2 SB archer/fighter but who hasn't done that already?

Edit: Also, how does sneak attack work with ranged slashing flourish? Does it hit twice or just on the first attack? Does it matter whether you're targeting one or two enemies?

Build Help [SOLO] What is the best abuser of the Sentinel feat?

By moving an ally to trigger an opportunity attack, Sentinel allows the user to attack, triggering Extra Attack and Improved Extra Attack so long as the user has not yet used their attack action this turn.

Presuming that Wild Strike and Improved Wild Strike are also triggered by Sentinel, I believe that Bladesinging wizard, Beast Master ranger and Circle of the Moon druid would likely be the best potential abusers of Sentinel in a solo playthrough. Each has the ability to make two or more attacks per round with high-quality summons.

I will discount the wizard for now, as Sentinel seems awkward with their preferred hit-and-run playstyle induced by Bladesong Impeded pushing them towards light armour and cloth.

The druid, presuming that Wild Strike works with Sentinel, may have the strongest late game with Tavern Brawler, Alert, Sentinel and Earth Myrmidon to trigger Sentinel, though between Tavern Brawler and your best summon being Flaming Sphere or scrolls until level 7, this build doesn't seem like it would abuse Sentinel until the mid-game.

The ranger, on its face, looks like it should be the best abuser of Sentinel. Two-weapon fighting gets you four attacks with your full attribute modifier at level 4 and 6 at level 5. Ranger Knight allows you to wear the Adamantine Splint. Hunter's Mark adds to all 7 of your attacks every turn and does not have the harmful flag, so can be used to trigger surprise rounds without costing you an attack.

The problem? Ranger's Companions are not designed to take the brunt of enemy attacks plus opportunity attacks every turn. The wolf, the bear and the boar seem like the most suited to tanking and none of them will last more than a round or two and require significant healing afterwards.

In the late game, one might use Viconia's shield to bolster their companion with Warding Bond, but until then, what? Abyss Beckoners seem ideally suited to this role, but it's unclear how to prevent your companion from going mad. Hellrider's Pride could potentially give resistance a few times per long rest, but as a half-caster your spell slots are limited and a ranger's healing costs an action or at least part of one with thrown potions. A one-level dip into fighter at level 6 could make sense to get the Protector fighting style, meaning that this would be a sword-and-board build from the end of act one.

It all feels very close to working, but I'm struggling with the last few tweaks required to make this a truly great build.

Thoughts and opinions appreciated, particularly if you have tried something similar yourself.

Build Help Bardlock or hexadin?

I’m running a Hald-orc, so it seems hexadin would fit better. But I’m also wondering if barlock would be better for CC, since I have none.

Thinking sword bard and hexblade fit CC? And I’m not sure it matter the subclass if I go the Paladin route.

I saw that theres like 0 guides for spanish people, both honour mode guides and build guides are mostly in english... Bardadin (10 Swords bard/2paladin vengeance)

Firesorc(11draconic sorc /1 fiend warlock)

Death cleric (8death cleric/2 necro wizard/ 2 Sorc

Some kind of rogue multiclass with ranger like

(7 horde breaker ranger /3 thief/ 2 fighter)

Is it good enought or do yall miss something?

Build Help "Magic isn't real dumbass" build

I think one of the most underutilized effect of a paladin is the auras. Hypothetically, if your charisma is high enough, don't you just suceed every saving throw? You can have a +7 on saving throw if you max charisma and have aura of protection (AoP) at paladin level 6, add your proficiencies (paladins get in on a wisdom save which is really good), the number could be good.

Oath of Devotion (OoD) in particular get immunity to being charmed while Oath of Ancient (OoA) receive less spell damage at level 9.

A pretty good bonus is that OoD can also get sacred weapon that could get a +7 on attack rolls with no concentration required.

The problem would be paladins are pretty MAD. 1 level dip in hexblade could fix the problem.

Do you guys have a different idea for a completely resistant build?

Edit: forgot to add OoD gets silence which denies thunder damage and most spells. Absolutrly goated.

Build Help Druid / Light Domain Cleric Perception Skill proficiencies

Hi BG3 Community,

I had respec shadowheart to become a Druid/Cleric,
I checked off Perception + Survival in the skill proficiencies

But noticed, when I multiclassed to a light domain cleric at level 3, it.. the "stars" goes to animal handling/medicine?

Won't let me pick Perception and Survival again

Is this a glitch?

TIA

Build Help A idea for a evil durge run

I’m starting as a oath of the crown paladin, and my durge is trying to resist killing up until halfway through act 2 when I free the moonrise prisoners for roleplaying reasons, which I will then switch over to oathbreaker. Once I reach level 5-6 I was thinking of picking up warlock hexblade for maybe a few levels, and then rogue assassin when I become Bhaals chosen. I was going to use the following items:
Hood: Bhaalist hood
Chest: potent robes until I kill Orin and then switch to Bhaalist armor
Gloves: gloves of dexterity(I know that as a hexblade I don’t need dexterity to attack, but I’m acting as the parties lockpicker, etc.)
Boots: disintegrating night walkers (I was going to use these if i don’t take warlock beyond level 1 for misty step, unless someone has a better idea).
Ring 1: killers sweetheart. I would take this off when I use these benefit and then switch to ring of protection for more AC
Ring2: if I took the assassin subclass like I’m thinking I want advantage for sneak attack. (I’m
Unsure what else ring I could maybe use for this character instead).
Amulet: amulet of greater health
Weapon: crimson mischief
Shield: viconias walking fortress.
Cloak: death stalkers mantle

My main question/issue is whether I keep with the class split idea I’m thinking, or drop either hexblade or rogue.

Specific Mechanic 1 Rogue, 11 Ranger is hilarious

Starting as Rogue = Proficiency into 4 skills.

Multiclassing into Ranger, 1 more skill.

Idol of Sylvannus free Nature+ Animal Handling profficiency, so 2 more skills.

Ilithid Expertise, free expertise in Persuasion, Deception and Intimidation, so 3 more skills.

Ranger gets 4 more free skills from natural explorer/ bounty hunter class features.

Right Tav background, 2 more skills.

Human versatility =1 more skill. ( Probably medicine, since neither Rogue nor Ranger can get it naturally)

That's proficiency in 17 out of 18 skills in the game , with expertise in some.

Build Help Mourning Frost Bladesinger / Star Druid / Paladin - 6/4/2

Hey y'all,

I was thinking about what to play for my next run. And I thought it would be fun to try a Shillelagh Mourning Frost build.

The build is as follows:

6 Bladesinger for extra attack and the versatility to scribe any spell I'd like
2 Paladin for Divine Smites
2 Druid for Shillelagh and Starry Form Dragon (concentration saves)

Then the last 2 levels can be either in Bladesinger or Star Druid, and in this case Star Druid would give access to enhance ability and Spike Growth.

Gear:
Basically all the Frost Enhancement gear

I'm curious has anyone tried anything similar? To me it seems like a fun and versatile build.
But maybe I am missing some obvious weaknesses here.
This would be for a 3-man hardcore run.

Thanks!

Specific Mechanic Is there no point in using a hexed weapon as a hexblade warlock if Shadow Blade exists?

I’m doing a hexblade Wyll run, and I’ve honestly been avoiding Shadow Blade so far. There’s so many cool weapons, and I feel like I’m wasting the hexblade’s main gimmick if I used it. Everyone’s always saying how OP the spell is though, so l’m wondering if I’m seriously gimping myself

Build Help Stars Druid / Tempest cleric?

Does a 2/10 split work well for a Call Lightning bot? I’ve done the spirit guardians build so I want to try something new.

If not, is there a better damage-oriented concentration build that economizes spell slots by successfully maintaining concentration? I hear moon beam is good also.

I just figure if I’ve got access to water and a spell slot efficient lightning attack, it might work really well.

Build Help Tempest Domain/Lightning Sorc Dragonborn??

Hey, I’ve been trying to really roleplay and dive into being a cleric who can cast lighting, but most builds I’ve found really just make an elf that acts more like Storm from Marvel, and not really Thor, if what I’m saying makes sense.

I’m hoping you guys might have input on how I can spec out a Dragonborn (Lighting of course) Cleric that dips into Lightning Sorc stuff. I know the Dragonborn bloodline would add my Charisma modifier and not my Wisdom, what’s the best way to do this?

Thank you!

Build Help What Gear did you folks give your Moon Druid?

Im in the Lower City and just went around to the shops to kit out my squad. Everyone got upgrades except my Moon Druid table, haha. I've so far built her using mostly just "good stuff" because I tend to just start fights with Ice Storm, then wild shape.

Right now she's got:

Helm- Fistbreaker Helm

Cloak- Cloak of Protection

Armor- Adamantium Scale Mail

Gloves- Wonderous Gloves (just because the 1 AC seems better than other options)

Boots- Evasive Shoes

Rings- Crushers and Rejuvenation

Amulet- Misty Step

Staff- Mel's First Staff (might give her Markoheskir for fun, even though it'll probably be better on my Lorelock Revurb + Radiant Orb Eldritch Blaster)

Shield- Sentinel Shield

Is there any act 3 stuff I should hunt down? Or just kind of go with the mid "good quality, not really a build" gear since I wild shape so often?

Build Help Monoclass Abjuration Wizard

To keep things relatively lore friendly with Gale, I would like him to sit back and cast damage spells, but be relatively tanky if caught (not immortal abusing AoA and doing stacks out of combat). I am curious how the Abj Wizard would do as a monoclass in tactician/honor mode.

Build Help Shadow Monk build input

Running a co-op game with a friend who hasn't finished the game before. Optimization is the least of my worries, I'm just trying to make sure this works the way I think it does.

The build concept so far is a githyanki taking 12 levels Shadow Monk with the Shadow Blade ring and Resonance Stone. If my math is right I'm hitting 5d8+dex unresistable psychic damage per use. I like those numbers but I'm looking for ways to flesh the build out a bit more. Mostly equipment and feat recommendations. Again, nothing too crazy. Want to ensure my friend has a good time while I teleport across the map and blow one guy up.

Feats considered: Savage Attacker (better strike odds), Athletic? (probably dumping strength cause fuck elixirs and I still want to jump), ASIs???.

No clue what this character actually wants gear wise. Shadow Blade just kinda does Shadow Blade things all over the enemies.

Any help/thoughts appreciated.

Build Help What are the best build I could have in a party of 4?

I’m posting again because my typos were terrible 😂

I’m rolling with Astarion (assassin), Karlach (Gloomstalker), and Shadowheart (war cleric).

The realm I didn’t put Astarion as my Gloomstalker is cuz I didn’t know if that would take away his lock picking ability.
