Spotted a RHD what looks to be a Xpeng G9? (headlights don’t look like the photos so might be a different model) test car in camo at Docklands.

Interior was all covered up but exterior looks to be around BMW X7 sized.

WA has 489 EVs per charger compared to 113 in NSW.

WA needs at Least 350 additional chargers to catch up.

Where is the plan? China will rollout over 1000… today!

For those who may have missed it, last night’s ABC Foreign Correspondent program did a special focus on China’s EV market and producers. Watching the program, it's hard to see how the traditional car manufacturers can catch up. The Chinese EV manufacturers are pushing the envelope of product development further and further into the realms of luxury and the fantastic. What’s more they are doing so at costs that bring those luxuries, convenience and people comfort within the domain of affordability for the masses. There’s even a flying car that will go on sale in China at the end of the year!

It’s a fascinating watch. The ABC does repeat the Foreign Correspondent on it’s regular channel and on Channel 24 as well as streaming on iView. I highly recommend setting aside 30 minutes to watch a re-run of last night’s episode.

I'm not sure what EV manufacturers think is so special about a vehicle being electric that justifies excluding a spare wheel from their standard equipment.

I've had two flat tyre instances this year where a 'goop' repair kit was not an option

Australian roads, even in the city (where scattered nails and screws abound) necessitate a spare. This is even more essential for cars designed to travel off road (Trailseeker for example)

There are some good deals on at the moment, and I can get the Sealion 7 (Premium) and Hyundai Kona Electric Premium for nearly the same price. Usually the Kona Electric Premium is approx $66k, but with discounts I can get it for about $56k - a similar price to the Sealion 7. There is a $2.5k cash back offer at the moment with the Sealion 7.

I've taken both for a test drive and enjoyed both, but I'm not sure about the bigger size with the Sealion. Will be a tight squeeze in my garage.

The Kona Premium has leather seats, heated and ventilated seats, 360 degree camera, Bose sound system, heads up display - all standard features on the Sealion 7.

Please help 🙏 And provide any experiences or views that you think are relevant.

I’m new to EV and need your help deciding whether to go for a second hand (about 30k km on the clock) Tesla Model Y or a new Geely EX5 both on a novated lease for 5 years to be used as the everyday family car. The balloon payment for both is about the same.

I’m limited to the second hand Tesla Model Y because of budget, but I really like the driving experience in a Model Y, the newer self driving technology and the bigger boot space. The Geely EX5 seems like a good car and is the more responsible decision given it is new and will be covered by various warranties.

Is there anything else I’m not considering that I should think about when deciding which to get?

Trying to find an EV charger for my apartment block to install in the visitor parking area. We have plenty of power and parking spots.

How do we charge each user for the power that they use? My preference would be an RFID or similar that charges the user and then pays the money to the Strata. Google isn't helping me find chargers that can do this, any recommendations?

long story short, drive an MG4 51 (350km range) 0-100 in 7.7s. it's fast, snappy and reliable.

The wife's ASX is now dead after 310,000 and she wants the MG4..Which is fine by me.

but I'm wondering if I should buy a used 2024 Model 3 RWD? is the LR RWD that much better?

we have a young kid and whilst the model Y could be better suited, the Model 3 will be significantly bigger than the MG4 already.

I want to feel a bit of push back in the seat, will the model 3 offer that? figures say 6.1s 0-100.

Range Im sure will be significantly better than my current MG4 regardless of model.

At a Brand Day event in Melbourne today, XPeng showed the L03 compact SUV in right-hand drive for the first time, days after its global debut in Munich, and confirmed it for Q4 2026. The updated G6 and X9 people mover are already on sale. Two more unannounced models are coming, described only as larger versions of existing XPeng vehicles.

The more interesting announcement is its Australian product strategy shift. XPeng is committing to launch new models in Australia in sync with China rather than the usual 12-to-24-month lag. That matters because it means buyers here get the latest Turing chip hardware and eligibility for VLA 2.0, XPeng's next-generation self-driving system, which is targeting a 2027 global rollout with Australia among the first right-hand-drive markets.

On the infrastructure side: up to 50 sales outlets nationally within six months, a Melbourne parts warehouse with next-day delivery to major states, ultra-fast charging stations coming locally, and a V2G pilot program.

They also plan to bring a flying car although no Australian timeline confirmed.

Not sure if this is the right place to ask. My partner needs to get an interlock fitted and we’re trying to work out how this plays with a Tesla Model Y. I’ve found plenty of general info about interlocks, but not much from people who’ve actually had one installed on an EV in Australia.

I’ve seen smart start interlocks mentioned as one option, but before we start ringing around, I’m keen to hear from anyone who’s been through it with a Tesla or another EV. Did it cause any dramas with the low-voltage battery, sleep mode, app access, warranty, servicing/calibration, or the car throwing weird errors?

Not looking for legal advice or judgement. We’re just trying to do the right thing and avoid choosing an installer who treats a Tesla like a Corolla with a touchscreen. If anyone’s had an interlock fitted to a Model Y or another EV, I’d really appreciate any tips on what to ask before booking.

Against its key electric rivals, the X9 FWD undercuts the Zeekr 009 FWD ($115,900) by $26,000 and sits $4,000 above the Denza D9 FWD ($85,990), while offering more range than both on paper. The FWD variant also sits just under the $92,494 LCT threshold making it eligible for the FBT exemption.

Interior spec is generous: Zero Gravity second-row seats with massage, a 21.4-inch rear entertainment display, a voice-controlled fridge, 27-speaker audio and 721 litres of boot space with all seven seats up.

While $90,000 is alot of money, this is also alot of car and technology. Unprecedented at this price point.

Would like to ask for your help as I’m torn between these two options — Geely EX 2 Inspire vs Ora 5 Lux. I know they’re pretty new to the market but they’re what I feel I like in terms of look, initial driveaway price and dealership location.

About me: Regional VIC driver, majority around town. Occasional Melbourne trip

Budget: roughly around the low $30K

Typical driving: roughly 48KM a week driving lmao with maybe once a month Melbourne trip

Charging: normal household charger (as I’m renting). Else, public chargers around town

Preference: nothing in particular and haven’t driven them yet but wanted your opinion based on spec sheet

Cargo needs: nothing too big unless I have to move which I hope I don’t do anytime soon

I have BYD and Jaecoo as other EV dealers but I don’t really like the look of the J5 and the Dolphin looks too pricey for what it is?

I have been looking into buying a model Y, the new ones look incredible with the DRL bar across the whole front, looks amazing in red.

Before I make the choice is there any other EV's to consider? I thought it's 2026 so a lot more EV's have come and are coming into the market, is there any really good ones to consider that rival tesla?

I am 25, 10 minute commute to work, occasional big trip down south for a little vacation or up north, I am south perth. Maximum budget is 70k, preferred vehicle type is anything to be fair. No cargo needs.

For those on the AGL EV plan (8c p/kwh overnight) have you noticed anything weird in terms of your usage monitoring and the charges applied ?

Since the 16th of July, it appears that usage between 12-6am is now being charged at a much higher rate (see screenshot of $0.91 for 4.29kw). Prior to the 16th the charge for the exact same usage was $0.34.

I called AGL but they said as this is not yet billed they couldn’t look into it

I’m looking at buying an EV and keep coming back to the Model Y mainly because of FSD.

Two of my friends have Model Ys and both use FSD a lot. One of them has had it for a couple of months and it’s their only family car. Both he and his wife use FSD regularly.

They use it pretty much everywhere, including shopping centre car parks, and from what I’ve seen it handles the driving and parking really well.

The thing is, I like the interior of the Zeekr 7X more than the Model Y. I’m just worried I’ll regret not getting the Tesla, especially with how quickly FSD seems to be improving.

Has anyone else been in the same situation? Would you choose the Zeekr for the nicer interior, or go with the Model Y because of FSD?

Picked up my Mazda 6e this week and love it so far.

Pros: Gorgeous inside and out (the tan quilted suede interior is so nice and everyone we’ve shown loves it), smooth and zippy to drive, super comfortable, electric sunshade is nice, and we got a touch over 500km from a full charge (LFP battery).

Cons: The driver assistance features are way too sensitive, lane keep assist is somehow both aggressive and innacurate, and the app is painfully slow and unreliable.

Overall though, really happy with it. Hopefully a few software updates can iron out the rough edges as we are quite a bit behind the overseas models.

I test drove a BYD sealion 7 a few weeks ago and did like it. But open to other options

Test drove the EV3, EV5 and a HEV sportage today at Kia. Was BLOWN away by the quality of all 3.

We currently have a 2017 hybrid coroola, and I couldn't go 'backwards' to a full petrol car.

We wanted a bigger car as we have a 4 year old and we have overseas guest 3/4 times a year, I'm worried the EV3 is just a little too small and doesnt fix the size annoyance we currently have.

Loved the EV5 too, wife is worried it's too big, even though its footprint is a teeny bit larger than the sportage.

As it stands we can't decide. All we know is the mrs ONLY wants the GT Line.

EV3 - awesome in almost every way, but size is a 'con'. GT line is expensive

EV5 - too big? range is also not as hot as the EV3. GT Line is expensive.

HEV sportage - really awesome too but not full electric. $10k cheaper GT Line than above

Anyone with a youngish child recently got any of these/had one of them etc - can reccomend one over the other or noticed any annoying things?

Hey, looking to get my first EV. Have been doing research for the last few months and now ready to start test driving a few cars. Given personal circumstances (salary, offset etc), a novated lease makes the most sense for our situation.

Budgetwise looking around the 40-45kish mark. Range wise would love to be at least 430 (ideally 500 but doesnt seem like there’s many at that spec for the price). Must be SUV for our family of 4 (2 babies)

Nice to haves: sunroof and RWD (Geely ex5 is FWD but supposedly next years model could be RWD?)

Starting to book in test drives so open to suggestions. So far only have the Geely EX5 on the shortlist

Would love to hear about those with post-purchase experiences too (booking services, wait times on parts??, customer service interactions etc)

I'm struggling a little bit to find exactly what I'm after, maybe I'm a bit too fussy, but I'll let you be the judge of that.

So, I want to buy an EV through my EV in the next 12 months.
Here are the requirements:

• Station wagon, van or MPV
• 2023 or newer (can be new as well)
• $50k or less
• At least 5 seats, but 7 would be great
• Very safe, including auto breaking, lane keep, etc
• Android Auto
• 300km range minimum
• V2L or better yet, V2G capable

So far, the only two that I've found and both of those don't fit all the criteria yet.
ID Buzz (for now a little pricey, but should drop below $50k in the next 12 months, I reckon)
Ora 5 Touring (not certain it will come to Australia, no confirmation of price yet, very ugly from behind if it looks like the other Oras).
