Are these carts authentic? Did anyone even counterfeit these?

No clue if there were manufacturing differences or what not, case on the left is shiny and the seam is a little uneven, is it real?

How do I make an Atari 2600 game in 2026?

I would like to make a simple Atari game. I would like to buy one of the new VCS consoles and put the game on a cartridge that plays on either new or old VCS. How would I accomplish either of these tasks?

These Atari 2600 carts amuse me

As a clue as to how expensive injection molding was (and still is) I've always been amused how it was cheaper to add an adapter to the existing Intellevision cart form factor to make 2600 carts vs, you know, just remold the whole thing.

Perhaps someone got a deal on some already made shells? The Intellevision cart on the right actually has the Mattel copyright in the mold.

I've added 40ish more games to my Atari collection, and I'll be upgrading from this Ikea billy shelf to a designated media shelf with 2x the capacity. I'll update monthly!

The Teeny-tiny Atari 2600 demo is an automatic 4 KiB NTSC production built around four timed visual scenes and an independent two-channel soundtrack.

It includes:

  • flowing top, middle, and bottom raster bars with a color-cycling title background
  • a large, asymmetric 40-bit SQUEEPTY playfield title
  • four title treatments: static, type-on/type-off, horizontal ripple, and vertical wave
  • four scene-specific player bitmaps that bounce horizontally and vertically
  • a sparse reflected starfield with a different plane mapping and motion in each scene
  • four animated checker/grid styles synchronized to the scene
  • a compact five-row GREETINGS TO ALL ATARI DREAMERS... ticker
  • a 66.75-second, two-channel TIA adaptation of Take On Me
  • luminance fades centered on regular scene changes
  • a fixed 262-scanline NTSC frame

The soundtrack is derived from Jukebox by Lloyd Russell, published as a type-in in Your Sinclair issue 21, September 1987, for the ZX Spectrum 128K. The recovered AY arrangement was converted into compact TIA events: channel 0 carries the selected lead voice and channel 1 carries the bass.

Need help finding a longer cord

I’ve been trying to hook up my dad’s old Atari 2600 and i’ve got it working so far with the small silver F adapter pieces. The issue is that i couldn’t find a way to use the long cord with the adapters, so the atari is plugged directly into the CRT with the adapter.

Does anyone know what kind of adapter i could use to get more distance between the Atari and the crt? I’ve also been having an issue with using the button/shooting in space invaders. Defender and other games like pac man work find. If anyone can help me i would greatly appreciate it! I’m trying to google myself but can’t find the exact answer.

Where can I get a reproduction cartridge of Swordquest Waterworld?

Why do I want a repro cartridge? Well, because Atari games are short and none of them save data, so I'm totally fine having a fake cartridge of a game, just to play the game. I did the same thing with Princess Tomato in the Salad Kingdom on NES; loose cartridge goes for absurd prices, and it doesn't use a battery, so I went with a repro cart.

It's aallivvee! Physical ROM hack for Atari 2600

About seven months ago, I found this Atari ROM hack with a little over 35 physical chips in an antique store on Maui. I picked it out on a whim, with no idea if it'd actually work.

I got it home and it was expectedly very glitchy, but also just a bit dirty - probably years in storage, and the foam pad holding the ROM chips was degrading (and sticking to the chip contacts). I finally sat down today to start really cleaning and caring for this thing and ... It's Working!

Turns out that the key fail point is ensuring that enough pressure is on the ROM chip when it's seated into the faux cartridge. It's a bit tricky (I think I might snag a very small c-clamp to maintain the pressure) but so far, I've got three games working. A LOT of work to go to clean the rest, but this is such a cool piece of Atari history.

I've not been able to confirm the story, but apparently it was made by a former Atari employee as a sort of home-brew, and his daughter sold it off in an estate sale. I'm trying to get a bit more information about this one. Stay tuned! =)

What was the first 8bit game system

I vaguely remember the Atari 2600 but was blown away by the 5200 like it was a generational leap forward (I was 7) but was the 2600 or the 5200 the first 8bit system? Or was it the NES?

Connect USB C to Controller Port on 2600+

Looking for a device that I can use to connect a micro controller that uses usb c straight to the controller port on a 2600+. All searches seem to be for for computers, which is not what im looking for. I have found some cables on Amazon but read that serial connections likely won't work as anticipated. Is there a search query I should be using? suggestions for this type of adapter and/or cable?

Need help hooking up to crt

I recently just got my dad’s old Atari 2600 out of storage and i’m trying to hook it up to my crt. These were the cords I have from the last time we hooked it up (about 15 years ago) and i just can’t remember how they hook up to the RF port on the crt.

the first slide is where im at so far with the one cord connected to the switch box. Im not sure where to go from here or if im right so far. And i can’t find any tutorials on youtube with these hookups.

The last slide is the games my dad had if anybody is curious. The console probably also needs a good cleaning but i used a microfiber cloth to get some of the dust out of the cartridge slot.

any advice or direction is much appreciated! thank you to anyone who can help
