As anyone familiar with the series knows, in his appearances in the Street Fighter Alpha games, Adon (who originally appeared in the original 1987 Street Fighter as the next-to-last boss), always includes "jaguar" as part of the names of his special moves, "Jaguar Kick", "Jaguar Knee" (where he just screams "Jaguar!"), and "Jaguar Tooth".
Would this have caused problems for a possible release of the games on this system, or would there not be any kind of problems at all?

After having forgotten about the Jaguar for a couple of decades, but then getting back into it with a vengeance over the last few years, I humbly submit my arguments for why this amazing console is still worth playing in 2026! My intent is to win over a few skeptics with this one..

Missing the box for Skyhammer in the photo but I do have that too. Don't think I'll ever part with any of it, it's fun to play casually! Unit is an M serial number model. Bought the sealed boxed console from a liquidator in 2000 for $19.99.

Back when I was still actively collecting I bought two Jag links and I have two copies of Battlesphere (one tea one a repo), easy enough to find a second copy of Doom and was never interested in air cars. I never landed the second Jaguar life happens you forget about stuff. I’m back in collecting mode again and wondering if it’s worth while for the cost of a second Jaguar?

I enjoy hearing your thoughts. Played it for about an hour. So far pretty decent. Still getting used to controls and really figuring out how to utilize weapons efficiently.
Update: I beat all of the first page of planets. I’m on the next set. Pretty cool so far.

Pretty happy about this. I’m about to meet Kevin Smith wearing this.

Music is phenomenal imo. Gameplay takes some discipline but can be adjusted for.

One of my favourites (if not really MY favourite for this console). I would gladly marry her again if it were possible

Hi everyone!
I’ve spent a full week trying to bringup Linux on the Jaguar; so far it boots to a shell but you can’t really control it in any other way other than physically attaching to the Jerry TXD/RXD pins using a USB-to-TTL board.
I was thinking of maybe doing something that converts a PS/2 keyboard to the Joypad port and making a simple protocol inbetween so we can get it to behave nicely, but that’ll come later on.
I’ve written a small blog post detailing the in’s and out’s I found myself in when doing the bringup; it’s offers no value other than a technical demonstration but I figured someone may find it interesting.
Thanks everyone!

Started my Jaguar collecting on March 1st this year and this I what I have so far, I’m waiting on ruiner pinball to arrive and I’m on the hunt for a clean copy of super burnout. Is there any must haves you think I’m missing?

Got these two discs today and they contain a lot of stuff. I will be archiving them and putting them up on Archive soon. Anyone know anything about these? Most of the dates of the folders are from 2024.

This was a game I avoided as a kid after being burned by Club Drive (the box fooled me), so I stayed away from this one after that bc of the reviews.
However now, as an adult, I grabbed a GameDrive and am able to finally play it on original hardware (the way I like to play retro games, emulated on a flash card or not).
I find that while it’s not the greatest title in the Jag library, and it’s definitely not in the top 10-15 games, but it’s definitely not near the bottom either.
By bottom-of-the -barrel Jaguar games, I mean titles like the aforementioned Club Drive, and Fight for Life, plus several others that are either awful, unplayable or a combination of both.
With Trevor McFur, maybe the hate it gets can be explained by its pace being a bit slower in pace than most shmups and there’s not a ton of enemy variety.
The graphics are also not half-bad and it’s so satisfying to shoot those asteroids (which have an almost 2.5D feel, as well as the enemy spaceships which look great as well).
Overall, the graphics are actually very good for the Jaguar and for the time it was released (1993) and I think it’s the type of pseudo-2.5D that the Jag does very well, as opposed to 3D…which it only seems to do well when it comes to FPS games, at least in its limited library (which was cut WAYY too short).
But overall, this one is decent. Anyone else think so?
EDIT: Also, the characters are bizarre and don’t make any sense. Like why is Trevor a Space Lion? (or Tiger or whatever he’s supposed to be) lol.

Was thinking about picking up a Jaguar after having one when they were first out. What’s the best way to play it on my current TV? Scart cable from Jaguar to RetroTINK 5x to HDMI?

Perhaps others had the same misconception when they read how JRISC code is loaded by the blitter on demand. Branches use relative addressing. So code can be moved freely through memory. It does not make sense to use long code snippets with absolute jumps. Then rather use overlays ( complete blocks of 4 kB for GPU or 8 kB for DSP ).
No, the calls to said function need to be updated. All calls to functions in external memory need to be replaced with traps ( call to the loader ). Then uppon loading a function, we need to link all functions in internal SRAM. So: not intra links, but inter links.
LOADP is actually a fast instruction unless we use scaled sprites ( Bug16 or so ). So it is easy to load back original call addresses and some metadata? It might be quite fast to seek though all calls to a function we want to discard from internal RAM. 11 bit. Can Load 4 source:target pairs .
Still I feel like this loader code can’t be small.
The blitter is a bit slow, but all the links in the other functions can be updated while the new function is loaded. Make sure to give the GPU priority over the blitter.
I like that the Jaguar has so many registers so that collisions and mismatches can be compiled away. At some point we need a stack. Jaguar stores return addresses in any register, so we can try to go a long way without a stack.
I still wonder how many functions live in internal memory that we have chance that two callers live there? And at some point we need to remap return addresses. Like we need to note in which register the return to a caller is stored. Then change it to trap the return.
Oh well, caching works best with loops. So actually a lot of snippets will probably jump absolute back to or even slightly before their entrance. When you optimize the loop, the start and end may up end up somewhere in the block.
And every call needs pull up the function on the most recently used list. Sounds like function calls better go through a dispatcher anyways. So there could be a stack. The dispatcher would start with pushes and the call could jump so to choose the number of pushes.
Most recently used could also be implemented this way. Each function increments a global counter and then copies it to its private slot. When memory needs to be freed, sort by counter snapshot. Or perhaps just seek min(), then free, then check if the new snippet fits, if not: rinse repeat!

Purchased this cart as part of a lot a few months back and was originally going to keep it. Decided to stick with retail release only. Any idea what this is worth? No recent sold comps and the only one currently listed is slightly different looking. It does play and is working.

As per the title, I’m looking for a good controller cable extension. I tried a couple of spare VGA cables, but when I plugged them in, the Jaguar refused to power on. I don’t think it's the console, because with 2 regular controllers and/or the BT adapter, there aren’t any problems. I’m using the stock power adapter as well, I don’t think it’s the issue.
Does anyone have a good cable suggestion?

Just got into Jaguar collecting. Been using a gamedrive for the last few years. I love the big boxes and artwork so it was a no brainer to delve in.
Waiting on Pinball Fantasies to arrive as I loved that game on my Amiga.
Been on the hunt for a pro controller and a copy of nba jam but proving hard to find.

I recently completed a restoration project of the Rayman Atari Jaguar soundtrack.
Since no clean extraction of the music was available, I captured all 32 tracks individually through BigPEmu and cleaned the recordings in Audacity while trying to preserve the original Jaguar sound.
One of the biggest challenges was avoiding gameplay sound effects, as some could still be heard even when attempting to mute them. Because of this, many tracks had to be captured very carefully.
To make the videos feel closer to the original game, I also recreated transition effects inspired by Rayman Jaguar.
The complete soundtrack is now available, and I hope other Rayman and Atari Jaguar fans enjoy it as much as I enjoyed working on it.
For anyone interested, the restored soundtrack is available on YouTube:

And I have also archived it on KHInsider:
