Hello, I live in Turkey and try to help the stray dogs in my area. Because of this, people keep bringing me problem dogs to treat, foster and rehome. 2 months ago a young couple brought me an abandoned toy poodle. He was 9 months old, had a habit of randomly biting people, never made eye contact, had only 1 testicle. I took him in, thinking I could train him and rehome him. Turns out it was not a training issue. These were the symptoms I wrote down after the first weeks:

"He circles around himself a lot. Never makes eye contact. Has trouble following things with his eyes. He cannot bend his neck upwards. He never looks above himself, always looks straight on or down. He frequently tries to stretch his neck by bending down. When a door opens or if he hears something unexpected, he barks, cries, bites uncontrollably. Almost always draws blood and bruises the skin when he bites. He has severe chronic constipation, to the point there is sometimes blood on his excrement. His skin is very dry and it sometimes flakes."

I took him to the vets several times. Because I live on a very limited budget, I had to ask other dog rescuers around the area for financial help with the bills. We managed to pay for an MRI scan for this brain.

The report says:

-Significant hydrocephalic enlargement (dilatation) was observed in the lateral ventricles.

-The corpus callosum structure, which provides communication between the cerebral hemispheres, was not observed (Corpus Callosum Agenesis).

-The interventricular septum (septum pellucidum), which separates the lateral ventricles in the midline, could not be observed.

Everything else was normal.

But now the vets around here are all saying different things about what the MRI scan report means. One said it is untreatable and to have him put to sleep. Another said he needs an operation to drain the fluid from his brain. Another said we should use medications. Another looked at the images and said there is also a cyst in his brain. I am completely lost.

He also has very low TSH, and normal/low T3 and T4 levels. Which could indicate that pituitary gland is being impacted too.

I cannot afford to have another report written by a professional. It doesn't look like there is an AI that can interpret the scan images either. I looked at the whole lot and understood absolutely nothing. I even spent some days trying to learn what the dog brain is supposed to looke like. But obviously this isn't something you can just learn from the internet.

What are my options to get an interpretation of what the MRI scan actually means.

I already have several other foster dogs and am way beyond my limit. This was such an unexpected twist and drained all my resources and energy for the past 2 months. Nobody can take him, and a rescue or shelter environment would ruin him. He is very afraid of loud noises and big dogs.

If you know a way to find out what is wrong with him, please help.

I have two five year old cats. They hate having their nails trimmed so I rarely do it. They are wonderful animals who rarely scratch the furniture. They use all the cat trees and corrugated cardboard I set out. One cat seems to “keep” her nails longer. The other keeps them shorter, but has never been very good at retracting them so still gets stuck on blankets or curtains sometimes.

I want to know if letting them maintain their nails is fine, or if I should be trimming them too. I can’t tell if it’s fear mongering or real advice. We just had our annual vet visit a couple months ago and I forgot to ask.

This morning one of my cats gave birth to kittens. There were 5 total but 3 did not make it. We are now left with just two. The mom isn’t feeding, grooming, or caring for them in any capacity. We tried to encourage her to company the kittens and hopefully feed them. But she seems super scared and wants nothing to do with them. My boyfriend and I have been feeding them a milk supplement about 2ml every few hours. We are just worried that they won’t make it. Is there anything we can do? We called some shelters and none of them take newborns. Any guidance would be greatly appreciated

We rescued our dog in April. She is a 3 year old beagle mix who was picked up as a stray in South Carolina, US.

Negative fecal in April. I saw tapeworm segments in May. Treated with one dose of virbantel. Noticed tapeworms again at the end of June. Our vet did a GI parasite PCR panel, which came back negative for anything pathogenic.

I kept seeing them, and sent in a picture to my vet. They had me I administer virbantel again (7/15), and then started the first round of panacur, which she finished 7/18. We have another round of panacur to do still.

This evening I see a big fat moving segment in her stool. She also had a bloated belly and decreased appetite this morning. We brought her in because I thought she ate something and was blocked. Ultrasound showed she was fine and they didn't seem concerned. I hadn't seen the tapeworm when my husband brought her in.

I am 100% positive that I administered all meds as directed and that she ate them all. She has also never missed a Nexgard dose since we got her. And she was dewormed and on flea and tick prevention at the shelter.

Am I way off thinking she has a tapeworm that's resistant to drugs? Why wouldn't it come up on the PCR panel?

The fact that there's currently kibble in the bowl and she has a big ol' belly is really concerning. Thank you to anyone who provides insight.

Hi everyone, I have a 6 year old 19 pound cat. He’s a big boy I think he may have some sort of Maine Coone in him. Anyway I adopted from a shelter I used to work at and he was surrendered having always eaten purina cat chow wet and dry, I believe is what the previous family wrote. They never mentioned him having a past of stones or any issues. His past vet records never mentioned anything of the sort. Shortly after he was surrendered he developed stones and couldn’t go to the bathroom. He went in for surgery and had 17 removed and is now on Hills C/D wet and dry.

I personally believe the stones may have been caused by stress? But I’m not sure. This food is very expensive and I have to have it approved by my vet every time I order. I would love to be able to feed him food and treats I can buy without a prescription.

I need some advice on if anyone would think it be safe to switch him or try out a not urinary food. I’m not sure if I’d be taking a risk or not. My vet basically said I just have to take the risk to find out. Please any help is appreciated

I have a 11-12 week old kitten(3mo) and she has ringworm, and i had her in my room since I've gotten her(when she was 4-5 weeks old), but my room gets hotter than the rest of the house and carpeted, which is a breeding ground for the ringworm so, ive moved her to my bathroom(which is smaller)

But, the first day i wanted to move her downstairs where I was sleeping temporarily because it's hardwood so it'll be easier to clean, but when I was feeding her my mom's reactive dogs might have also spooked her so now im feeding her in my bathroom(upstairs away from the noise), and the first day i managed to get her to eat her two 3-oz cans, but today I managed to get her to eat one can in her second lunch,

She'll lick some then leaves to go play, so i play with her till eventually having to spoon-feed her, and I've tried tips ive searched online; ive tried enticing her with broth, but she'll drink the broth then leaves, ive decreased the amount but increased the amount of times I've feed her, and i feed her wet food and reheating it before I feed her like usual, and as said before, she's been eating in a secluded space(bathroom)

^ ive heard trying to feed her baby food, but im not sure if it'll help, do anyone recommend?

I play with her to try to not feel too stressed about the space downgrade and being trapped, she's always trying to escape but I dont want her to contaminate the other pets.

I'm just worried that the amount she's eating won't hurt her in the future, since she's growing i dont want her stress to make her be depleted from growing(she's currently eating half the amount she previously had been eating), is spoon-feeding okay, and is it okay if she's eating less than usual?​

My cat had all but four teeth extracted several years ago due to severe dental disease/gingivitis. I recently noticed one of her remaining teeth looks discolored & yellow, will it need to be removed too? I need to take my cat to the vet. Again.

He is the worst when it comes to needs.

He is indoor/outdoor (this is not up for debate just for context, please focus on the actual question).

There is a neighbor cat who bullies everyone here, and I'm sure he was able to make contact for a bite wound at the base if my cat's tail. We've already addressed a bite wound in this spot, 6 weeks ago. I had to take him in twice.

I have not been able to self examine his tail, as it's sensitive and he doesn't want me to touch it. I don't see an obvious wound, and didn't feel one yesterday when I pet him (though did note that it felt slightly swollen). It has grown while I was at work and has now ruptured.

His swelling is in the exact same spot as 6 weeks ago.

The question.

Could this be a recurring infection that wasn't fully cleared? Do I need to ask for something more/different in terms of treatment?

He was previously given antibiotics via injection as he wouldn't let me administer them orally. Prior to 3 days ago, he appeared fully healed. I have not seen or felt signs of a new injury.

I can't afford to keep taking this guy to the vet every 4 - 6 weeks. This is our 4th time this year due to one reason or another. If it's recurring, I need to know what to ask for the vet to check for.

Hi, my 7 year old schnoodle sneezed out snot with a reddish tint to it. (image of snot). We took him to the vet  immediately and discovered his left nostril is blocked. They said it could be one of three things. Allergies, an infection or something physically blocking his nose.

They prescribed him a weeks worth of Metacam (Meloxicam) 1.5mg/ml Oral (per ml). And to give him Claratin.

If it doesn’t get better we’ll have to go somewhere else to get a scope put up his nose while he’s under anaesthetic.

It seemed to be working, we didn’t see any reddish snot until today after we finished the Metacam. 

We’ll be taking him to the vet again asap but wanted to get opinions of what could be causing this to my baby :(

My cat 1-1,5hours ago fell from 5th floor on cement. I think providing photos is not allowed because in photo is seen blood, she spit out some blood, she was snorting once in like half a min. She was confused now better.

First instinct was to communicate with AI. I put her carefully in box without bending her and with caution. At apartment as I was watching her breath and just checking her she got out of the box and was running a bit around the room. Idk if that shows anything does her legs are good. But she definitely should have some internal bleeding. I couldn’t chase her as I’m afraid to touch her because I’m not feeling what she is so I don’t know. She ran in somewhat cramped space but for now she almost doesn’t snort and tried to get comfy and sleep.

Edit: it’s 00:34am and clinic opens at 9am and every clinic is closed and also doesn’t answer calls too.

My main question would be do I just watch her all night, check her breathing?

About 6 years ago one of my friends stepped on his tail. My mom took him to the vet and he said it was “broken.” For the last 2 years he has been peeing on our couch. We have replaced the couch several times, but my bf is fed up. I’ve spent so much money on vet visits, prescriptions, special prescription cat food and litter. My bf said “it’s me or the cat.” If he moves out, I won’t be able to afford to live here. And I definitely won’t be able to keep buying the expensive cat food. I’ll be homeless with 3 cats. I’ll take any advice! I’m desperate.

My 4 year old male mutt (German shephard, pitbull, retriever) has had skin issues over the last few years. He is currently on Zenrelia and I worry that it is causing his immune system to be less responsive to other skin issues. He has not yet gotten an allergy test, but has been on a fish diet for most of his life because his skin reacts better to that.

He currently has some good days, but a few days a week he has sweaty skin, and smells yeasty or like pennies sort of. There are also red spots in his groin and armpit areas, which are now oozing and form little yellow crusty patches.

I gave two of my dogs less than a tablespoon of onion soup broth to lick from a spoon. One of them is 65 pounds and the other is 25 pounds. I didn't know about onion toxicity until someone said something as I was giving it, and now I'm starting to get anxious. How much should I panic?

About two weeks ago, I rescued a 4-month-old kitten from the street, gave her a bath, and brought her to the vet for a checkup and they said she's all good except of some fleas and didn't mention any illness or disease. She is generally a quiet cat who only meows when I prepare her food or when she wants to leave a room, and I have kept her routine completely consistent since taking her in. I scoop her litter box like 4-5 times a day because it starts to smell, and she has had no obvious physical trouble using it. Despite this, a week ago she peed on my bed, and this morning she attempted to do it again under very strange circumstances. Just five minutes after using her box to poop, she climbed onto my mattress, started scratching the it, and immediately dropped into a peeing posture. She peed a little bit since I saw it immediately.

Panicking and reacting out of sheer frustration, I rushed over, grabbed her, and threw her into her litter box, though she did not end up going. After cleaning my bed, I went to check on her because I felt terrible about how I reacted. She was sitting tightly curled up in a corner, and while she didn't act defensive when I approached, it was heartbreakingly clear that she was terrified of me. To give her room to decompress and keep her away from my bed for a while, I set up her food, water, and toys in the bathroom so she could have a quiet, isolated space.

What concerns me most now is that her overall behavior seems off today. While she did her usual meowing while I prepared her breakfast, she barely touched her food once I set the bowl down. This is extremely unusual for her, as she normally devours her meals in two to three minutes flat. Since her routine hasn't changed at all and her litter box is constantly kept clean, I am at a complete loss as to what is causing this sudden behavior. Could this be an underlying medical issue like a UTI, a stress response to something in the environment, or something else entirely?

Our dogs are largely indoors, in central Austin. We walk them several times a day, they occ sniff and very briefly interact with other dogs while on leash. Otherwise they at our house. No away dog care, we have petsitter come to our home when we travel. Q: Do we need, or is it reasonable to forego, yearly bordetella and lepta vaccines? They are currently being pushed by our vet.

My cat have gotten a runny nose and her eye was watery we went to the vet and she said it's probably form the tooth problem (tooth because only one was bad) which she has gotten antibiotics for she got better (also the tooth fell out) but today when I was petting her she started drooling like a lot and peed but she never had any issues with it I took her quickly to the floor where she laid down and started shaking real bad I held her so she wouldn't hurt herself and after it passed and she got better she started hissing and stuff then roaming house like she has never been here there's no emergency vet near me so I'm just waiting for any vet to open and I'm taking her asap but I just need to hear anything because I'm so scared for her right now it's better she's sleeping in my room but still

She's a female cat about 8 years old not spayed yet and we live in Poland she's also an indoor cat never been outside other than when we go to vet and she never had any problems other than the tooth

Also her runny nose hasn't stopped but the vet told us to finish antibiotics and then come back which she still hasn't finished

A white lump has formed on her lower gums, unsure of what it is. Possibly there earlier but grew to this size very recently, last week or so. Do I need a biopsy? Is it urgent?

Our dog was castrated last Friday. He was fine when we got him home, didn't seem to be in any discomfort, was eating and drinking okay, and was just as energetic as usual - it was a constant battle to stop him jumping up on furniture etc.

As per the vet's advice I started him on Rheumocam on the Saturday, and again on the Sunday, but stopped use after he vomited on Sunday evening.

He vomited again on Monday a couple of times, then again on Tuesday. By Tuesday he wasn't eating so he was only throwing up white foam, he would drink water but he couldn't keep it down - throwing it up after about 10 minutes.

I took him back to the vets on Tuesday evening where they said they thought it was a bad reaction to the Rheumocam - they gave him an anti-nausea injection and sent me home with Famotidine and some probiotic paste. He had a small piece of boiled chicken on Tuesday evening and managed to keep it down.

Wednesday he seemed to have improved a lot, he was drinking water (a small bit at a time) and never threw up, along with boiled chicken throughout the day - he was still a bit lethargic but I thought this was normal due to not eating or drinking as much the last few days.

Today he's deteriorated a lot - diarrhoea all day with blood - out in the garden in looked tarry and black, but later on it looked fresher. He did manage a Famotidine pill with some boiled chicken early afternoon but he's had barely any water. I took him back to the vets this evening and they've advised to stop the Famotidine and given me Mezzopram (Omeprazole) and Sucralfate.

Since we got home he's had a very small bit of water, and I managed to get him to swallow a Mezzopram - still refusing to eat anything.

The vets want him back in first thing tomorrow morning to go on an IV drip - I guess I'm just wondering if anyone else has been through this before in terms of their dog reacting badly to Meloxicam, how long it can last, what happens after he's rehydrated and still refusing food and water at home?

* History: He has presented with persistent nasal discharge since October last year that causes sneezing and reverse sneezing episodes. Thick mucus can be pulled out of his nose several times a day. We have gone through 2 CT scans of head and chest and 2 rhinoscopies to check for foreign bodies causing irritation. Biopsies taken have been analysed and have ruled out tumours and ruled out aspergillus. Recently this progressed to pneumonia which was treated with 6mg prednisone once daily and 20mg amoxicillin twice daily for 14 days. Symptoms cleared completely within 3 days and nasal discharge stopped. By day 7 these had started to return despite still being within the 14 day medicated period. Day 14 is today and the sneezing and aggressive snorting have returned. I have tried daily nebulising with 0.9% sterile saline and coupage top help prevent fluid building in the lungs and to loosen the mucus so he can eject it more easily but it does not seem effective.

Any advice welcomed, we are at a loss here and while insured they are refusing to cover this so I have and will likely continue to pour money into this. I have no idea where to go from here and I'm scared this will continue to develop into pneumonia. He is clearly in a lot of discomfort and I feel terrible for him!

we got this boy when I was 12. now I'm 22 and he's dying in my bath, my grandma is on the vacation so I took him to my flat. he was sick for a couple of months now, his paws failed, we treated him, he started walking again, and this morning I found him with his paws failing again. I took him to the vet and they injected him with his medication (my granny usually does his injections because shes a doctor herself, I can't do them so I take him to the vet). after an hour when we got home he started having convulsions looking like death throes, he has foaming at his mouth, he's screaming and doing things with his all four paws like he's drowning. I called the vet and they said he's probably dying. I sent a video to my granny and she said there's nothing we can help him now. They all say we should put him to sleep. He's so young, he's only 10. He has a lymphoma, but we were treating him, apparently it was far too late when we started treatment. I don't want to be the one to kill him. I know I have to because he's in a great pain and I don't want him to suffer. I just don't know. I called to several vets and sent them video of his convulsions, they all say it's death throes and he can't be reanimated, even if i do he'll die in a couple of days, he'll just spend these days suffering. Please tell me I'm not a monster for putting him to sleep. I'm currently waiting for my mom to come to me so I'm not alone at this moment. I also have my own cat and she looks at him suffering. I hate loving animals so much and being so powerless.

Turkish angora, about 5-6 years old, no previous problems or medical history.

While petting my cat the other night I came across a black-ish bump on his upper back legm It's the only one on his body and it doesn't seem to bother him but while searching on the internet I got concerned. It's the size of a pimple or maybe just a tiny bit bigger and a bit hard to the touch, seems a little bit dry as well. If someone could help me identify the problem or help with some advice.

I'm planning on taking him to the vet next week but money is tight and I wanted to check with someone with knoweledge first, maybe it's nothing serious or urgent.

I'm sorry in advance, this is going to be quite long but I am at my wits end.

I am looking for some possible insight into what could be wrong with my cat/cats.

They are 4 year old male tabby brother cats. Neutered, vaccinated, up to date flea and worming.

We are based in England and the cats are uninsured.

We know mum cat- she was a friends kitten who escaped the day before her spay op, got jumped by 4 neighbourhood cats. No known trouble with her, medically.

Cat number 1- very very attached to me, seeks me out etc. Went on holiday when cats were 1, came back and the day after we got home, he was struggling in the litter tray, not weeing, day 2 was weeing blood. Took him to the vets, asked about stress- said about me being away, everyone agreed it was probably that. He was put under GA, catheterised, unblocked, pulled his catheter out in the middle of the night and was sent home in the morning. Happy cat. The urinalysis showed no infection. Sent home with gabapentin and metacam.

Cat number 1- fire alarm randomly goes off about a year later. He immediately runs to the litter tray and sits there. Refuses to get out and does this all day. He was still playing, chatting and eating during this time so we gave him metacam. On day 2, he was weeing fine. Had 3 days of metacam. This happened again about 5/6 months later. Same sequence of events. Seems to run to the litter tray as a comfort blanket almost.

Important to note- when they go off their food, growl when licking themselves, stop playing etc, we take them to the vets.

Cat number 2- we move house, kept in, very unhappy cat. He blocks. At this point, they are 2. Take him in, GA, unblocked, fine- home the next day. Sent home with gabapentin and metacam.

13 months later he gets in a fight and is struggling to wee again. We take him in and they unblock him but he is weeing blood so they keep him in for 48 hours. Sent home with gabapentin and arthrocam.

6 weeks after this, they are both spooked by fireworks. Cat number 1 gets over it after a few hours. Cat number 2 didn't. He blocked again. This time however, he crashed when they GA'd him and couldn't get him back. They catheterised him quickly, woke him up and he was ok. His creatinine sat at nearly 900 after this and he was showing signs of early heart failure. He's kept in and blocks a further two times. Both of these times he's ok under GA. on day 6, his creatinine is ok and he undergoes PU surgery. Comes home with gabapentin, arthrocam, dantrolene and buprenorpine. He has since then, been completely ok. (This was January this year)

Cat number 1 is not happy with his stinky, blood and wee covered brother and refuses to eat near him, drink etc. Starts weeing all over the house but is otherwise ok. After 3 weeks, harmony was restored haha. Cat number 2 has been absolutely fine since.

Cat number 1 however has had a further 5 episodes of cystitis. A vet we saw at some point stated he was happy for us to administer metacam/arthrocam if he shows early signs but isn't unwell enough to come to the vets. We have done this. He also started him on 200mg gabapentin every day to try and help settle his anxiety. On one occasion in maybe March, he wasn't weeing at all so we took him in. He wasn't blocked but they gave him a sedative and painkillers and after a few hours, he weed. Came home with the same cocktail of meds as his brother.

He had another vets trip when he was weeing blood, but the vet didn't listen to me, heard that he was weeing and so sent us home. Went back the next day and was given gabapentin, arthrocam and dantrolene (I think).

Something that may be worth a note- some of these flare ups coincide with me working a lot. I take a day off, we are on drugs and play and he seems to be fine. I don't know if its a coincidence or if the timings are actually something.

A vet I've seen has said he believes there is some sort of genetic component at play. We have a check up in a few weeks for cat number 1 to make sure the meds he is on are correct, but considering the frequency of the cystitis flare ups he is having, surely it can't be? Or do you think there would be something else going on? What can we ask at the vet check up?

He is currently on a flare up, 3 days of arthrocam, he's fine. Day 4 I'm at work but he has been weeing fine. Day 5, no arthrocam, he's fine, I'm at work. I came home and he immediately ran to the litter tray where he spent all night scratching the tray. It was instant. Is it attention?? Is that a thing?!

They are on urinary food, wet and dry. They have cystease tablets every day. They have 2 water fountains. We have 3 feliway plug ins around the house. We are at a loss.

It seems to be every 4 weeks he has a flare. Is it just cystitis? What can I ask for at the vets to get more info? Can he be on dantrolene long term?

As far as we know, he has only fully blocked with a stone/crystal the once when he was one. All other times have been spasms.

They are uninsured and have cost so much but if it ends this, we are happy to pay.

Please, any ideas? I am just so sad for him.

A day ago, I noticed my bernedoodle was really licking down there aggressively. And I saw this bump forming not on the penis, but the sheath. He can still pee fine, and it's not discolored. I just dont know what it is.
