LOW RESOLUTION IN PHOTOS

Upvotes

my iphone is 15 pro, If mine has a strange gallery, so the photo in my gallery is blurry even though the way the photo is correct. it can be hd if zoomed a little and then reverse the standard size becomes hd, but when the photo is shifted to another photo and back to the photo that is already hd, the result becomes blurry again. so the term is that if I want to see the hd version, I have to zoom first and then return to the original size. Is it because of the HEIF format in the settings? maybe you know the tips, thanks guys

Is there an app to identify corrupted photos/videos?

I've got about 6500 photos and 1200 videos in my Photos app. I've got the "Optimizing Library" message stuck at 38% and has been stuck for a couple of months. I've done all the standard hard reset, unsync/sync phone, etc and nothing fixes that. I read in this reddit some people fixed this by removing all of the corrupt photos and videos in their library.

Is there an app that will identity corrupt photos and videos in the library? That's a lot to just scroll through.

Thanks.

photos disappearing from gallery

i’m not sure if this has happened to anybody else before. i’ve asked around and this is the first anyone has heard of this.

almost 10k of my photos have literally disappeared from my gallery. i have 2TB of icloud storage and i barely use half of it but my photos are gone without a warning. it was almost 14k before the disappearance and now it’s at 3k.

i’ve gone to the apple store and they told me to contact support and support says they can’t do anything but recover my deleted photos as long as it was deleted within the past 40 days. thing is, i vividly remembered still having my photos at least 3 weeks back and i only discovered that the 10k was missing a week back.

they’ve recovered my deleted photos and like i expected, they’re all photos i had deleted intentionally and none of my 10k photos are in there.

i’m not sure if anyone has had this happen to them. it’s also really frustrating because why am i paying $14 a month just for my photos to be disappearing into thin air like that. i’m really hoping to get some help or advice. a lot of the photos are very important to me so i’m really hoping anyone has any tips

iCloud Photo Storage Research Questions

I am a graduate student conducting research on digital waste and how it is impacting consumers. Specifically, I want info about how people manage their photo storage on iCloud. I am looking to hear from people who pay for the iCloud+ with 2TB storage plan, but are near the lower end of storage on this plan (just over the 200GB threshold for the cheaper plan). Alternatively, I would also like to hear from you if you have over 200GB of photos but have some workaround to avoid having to pay for the 2TB iCloud storage. If this describes you, I would like to know:

  1. How long have you been paying for the 2TB tier of iCloud storage?
  2. How much of that storage is being used by photos?
  3. Do you regularly go into your camera roll and delete old unused photos? If yes, how often do you do this, and how long does it usually take? If not, why don't you?
  4. If you have a workaround to keeping your iCloud storage usage below a certain level, what are you doing? If you are spending money on this workaround, how much does it cost you?

Why is iCloud Photos keeping the original photos on my iPhone instead of the optimized versions?

Thumbnail
gallery
0 Upvotes

I have Optimize iPhone Storage enabled, but my iPhone still seems to be storing the original, full-resolution photos instead of the optimized versions.
I thought the whole point of enabling this setting was that the originals would stay in iCloud and my iPhone would keep only smaller, optimized copies until I needed the full-resolution version.
So why is my iPhone still keeping the originals? Under what conditions does iOS actually replace the originals with optimized versions? Is it only when the iPhone starts running low on storage, or should it happen automatically?
I’m asking about how this feature is supposed to work, because it doesn’t seem to be doing what I expected.

Managing photos moved to files

I need to basically have two libraries of photos and videos: one for personal/family and one for my consulting work. I also need both of them to be synced to the iCloud so I can access them from my iPhone, iPad, and Mac Air. The only way I know to do this is to move the consulting work photos/videos to a folder in my Files.

The problem I have is that it is much more difficult browsing and managing photos and videos in a Files folder than when they are in the Photos app. Simply browsing them, for example: I don't know of any app that will work with Files photos the way it does with those in the Photos app, especially on the iPhone. Is there one? I know I can just use Finder in gallery mode but that's fairly crude.

Am I doing this the hard way?

iPhone contact photo

I'm having an issue with my iPhone contact photo. When I call people, they still see my old photo even though I changed it in the Phone app (Contact Photo & Poster). I called a friend after changing it, but he still saw the old photo. Other people also see different photos—some see the new one, while others still see the old one.

Does anyone know why this happens and how I can force the new contact photo to update for everyone?

I’m trying to download the photos from iCloud to my iPhone to free up some space. Whenever i try to turn off the sync, i get this message.
Another question: how do i keep track of the download progress so I know when to delete the photos from iCloud?
Edit:
i have more than enough storage so that is not the problem..
I just need some iCloud storage to sync notes with my ipad. I do not need to sync photos.

How can i transfer 180gb of photos from a 128gb storage IPhone 11 (Basically almost none of them render)

Hi, I've been trying to make my IPhone 11 usable recently. When I was younger I used to put all of useless screenshots (95% of photos) to the trash, and it worked. Last time when I did this (like 2 yrs ago) it got stuck. I mean that those photos are appearing in recently deleted. When I click delete all, it dissapears as it should, but when i open recently deleted again it is still there. (ps. it still shows 30 days left to discard, when deletion literally happened 2 or 3 yrs ago) When I try to import these on my PC, it just renders like 200-600 photos taken from my camera. If I try to import it, it just imports like a singular photo. How can I import these photos (taken by camera, not screenshots) faster? Also, how can I delete those screenshots? Help me please. (Sorry for bad English, but it is late for me and I am rlly tired).

Script to set photo titles using variable information

Apple Photos on a Mac lets us export using photo titles as file names. That's great, but unfortunately there's no way to set the titles other than one-by-one manual entry in the "Info" panel or to set the titles for all selected items to the same value. So, I wrote the script below that allows me to set the titles and/or captions of all selected images or videos based on stored information specific to each one. This information is taken directly from the Photos database. Getting values directly from the database also allows circumventing the problem of using the "date" value provided by the Photos application to AppleScript. Specifically, if a photo was taken in a time zone that is not the one where a script is being run, then the date/time value is adjusted to the current time zone, resulting in a wrong value. What is retrieved from "date" and what is shown in the Photos "Info" panel will not match.

This script works by asking for a title "format string" that can contain substitution tags to represent specific values for each photo. Here is a list of them.

%D - Date as shown in the Photos information panel
%T - Time, including seconds
%t - Time, excluding seconds
%Z - Time zone
%XD - The original EXIF date (ie, unadjusted)
%XT - The original EXIF time, including seconds
%Xt - The original EXIF time, excluding seconds
%L - Latitude
%l - Longitude
%F - Original file name
%f - Photos internal file name
%fp - Photos internal file path
%M - Photos "Moment" name
%CT - Current title text
%CC - Current caption text

Here is an example of a format string that I use a lot: "%D %t | %M". This sets each selected photo's title to its creation date and time followed by "|" and then by the Photos "Moment" name. Here is another example: "Hiking trip - GPS: %L, %l"

The format string is remembered from one use to the next.

The Photos app must be open already for the script to run. The specific Photos library you are using will be automatically detected.

You can either run this script in Script Editor or, better, copy it into a "Run AppleScript" box in Automator to be used as a Quick Action for the Photos app. This allows you to call it from the Photos "Services" menu. You can also assign a shortcut key for this in your System Settings.

The first time you run it, you may be asked to allow Automator (or Script Editor) full access to your Photos. Running scripts in Automator can be tricky due to macOS's strict security sandboxing. If you have any issues getting it to run, let me know. There are workarounds.

iOS photos stuck on “restoring from iCloud…”

Thumbnail gallery
1 Upvotes

Since a few days, I am having issues with syncing photos with iCloud. I am traveling and during daytime so not have internet connection. However during the evening/night I do, but my photos aren’t syncing. When I click on my account in the photos app it’s stuck on “restoring from iCloud..” while normally it would for example say “syncing 479 items”.

When I go to iCloud on the web, I do see my photos. However, my wife doesn’t see my photos and I don’t see hers. We use a shared library.

I have had the phone plugged in and connected to WiFi for 12+ hours straight, but still I see that 479 photos need syncing.

I have plenty of storage available, more than 1,5TB.

Any clue how I can force the syncing?

Thank you so much!

Has anyone noticed that images are larger than the size of the iPad screen? If you make the picture full screen and slide the picture left to right, you will see that party of the image is not being shown when full screen.

What is the best way to clear photos from your came-roll?

My 200g iCloud storage is full of photos and now my phone is no longer backing up. What’s the quickest / most efficient / best way to clear my camera roll without going through 13,000 photos? I know there’s apps to help but I don’t want to have to pay a monthly subscription. Has anybody got any tips? Thanks in advance!

What happens if I delete photos?

tl;DR: what happens if I delete photos from my main Apple Photos library that supposedly syncs to my iCloud, if they're on a copy of the library on an eternal drive?

  1. I have Photos App library on my MacBook Air, that syncs with my iCloud account.
  2. In it I created a smart album of photos taken 2008-2011.
  3. I have a copy of this library on external drives (HDD and SSD).
  4. In the original Photos App library then deleted photos in that smart album (2008-11). I see them disappear from iCloud and from my Photos App on the MacBook. I see them in the deleted folder with 28 days to go. BTW these are photos I have somewhere on CD and even negatives- so I'm not too worried about losing them here.
  5. I do see them (2008-11 photos) in my backed up library.

Here's what makes me nervous: the Photos in iCloud take up a lot more room than those on the App. Where exactly are the full originals? iCloud, I would say? Then what is that I have on the backed up library?

Why? trying to make more space in iCloud. Looking for alternative to upping my storage.

TIA.

ETA: do I need to set iCloud settings a certain way? Like download photo size copies to my Mac instead of optimizing space? That's an App setting, and therefore the libarary on the Mac will be as large as it is iCloud correct?

My phone got destroyed and iCloud silently failed to sync. So I built a true one-way backup app to my own bucket.

Post image
0 Upvotes

(No self-promotion since the public application isn't even out yet)

A few months ago, my iPhone got destroyed (dumb accident Iceland and a waterfall). I thought iCloud (which I pay 10 bucks a month for) was syncing my photos and videos but I ended up losing ~ 3 years worth of memories, and I learned that iCloud is actually a very poor backup solution and judging from posts in this community, a source of frustration for many people.

I had some history building iOS apps in college, and I'm a software engineer by trade, so I built a native utility to fix this for myself first. I built it to sync to Cloudflare R2 (so I could own my own data without building a NAS, although maybe one day I'll do a weekend project like that). But then I decided to add a Google Drive option so my mom could use it too (I do not want to walk her through creating an r2 bucket and copying api keys).

I built it with features that I would want:

  • Uncompressed photos / videos: definitely want the full quality
  • No middlemen servers: Client <--> cloud bucket directly
  • Background + Foreground sync: I like the thought of media syncing in my sleep, that's when my phone is charging anyway. Used to work at a company that only supported foreground sync, I don't think users liked that.
  • Sync Status for Peace of Mind: I like knowing exactly what % of my files are backed up, since iCloud was not very forthcoming with that information

I built it for myself, and I'm planning to release it for free, and I'm happy even if I release it to the community and it gets zero traction. Attached some screenshots of the current UI.

Would you use an application like this / are there any features that you'd want to see in the initial build? Would this solve a problem that you're dealing with?

Would appreciate any feedback!

Cannot accept shared album invitations… keep getting “Cannot join ‘shared album name’”

Hi, really hoping somebody can help me out with this problem, please. For some reason, my iPhone recently stopped allowing me to accept shared album invitations in the photos app from other people… I never previously had issues and then all of a sudden, every time I receive an invitation to join a shared album started by someone else, after I click “accept”, I get a message saying “Cannot join *name of shared album.”*

My iPhone is fully updated to the most current software and I even got a new phone recently, the 17 Pro, and I am still having the issues on my new phone after setting up my phone from a back up of my previous iPhone.

I can create share albums and send out invitations to other people to join, and it works with no problem, but for some reason, I cannot accept other people‘s shared album invitations. Every time somebody sends an invitation, I receive it, but when I click accept, I get the error as outlined above.

If anybody has recommendations, I would greatly appreciate it!

Thanks in advance.

Transferring photos via a cable after turning iCloud sync off

Hi, I turned off iCloud Sync for photos and then I’m planning to use a cable and then import the photos from my iPhone to Mac. Will that keep my photos safe and retained because it’s all my holiday pictures.

If I turned off iCloud sync will the photos already on Mac remain there or will they disappear?
