I knew my paternal side was mainly Polish and that they immigrated to Brazil in the early 1900s. I knew my maternal side was mostly Portuguese and I thought they were native Brazilian. What shocked me is how African I am. I knew my mom had a few African ancestors but I had no idea it was this prevalent. These tests are amazing!

Tbh the only thing I was expecting is having European+Black+Native DNA like the average Brazilian, specially from this part of the country. Me and my family are deeply rooted in this country. The most distant relative I could trace was a Portuguese man who came alone to Brazil in the XVIII century.

The picture shows my greatgrandparents, Joaquim and Rosa with my grandpa, Cícero, and his sister, Maria.

For those who might wonder, I'm from Piauí State. My mom's side is from Ceará. I've traced some relatives coming from Pernambuco and Rio Grande do Norte too

Genealogy / FamilyTree Ancestry DNA vs Records

On a Creekmore genealogy page, I found this message:
"Don't test your DNA unless you're prepared to find out that your brother isn't... your brother!"

Records do not tell us who the genetic/biological father is. Sometimes adoptions are kept secret. Elders make mistakes.

I've gotten a surprise or two!

Every name in the records that I've found is Scottish or English.

And, I found that Creekmore ancestry had already been established back to 1515 before I even looked.

Likewise, my great grandfather was a "Logan." I "googled" Logan and... there it was.

That is a heavily researced group that has been collecting male Logan DNA research for 20 years. They are a Scottish Clan, have an international group, and various social media pages.

My Logan line came to the VA/NC colony and then to KY. I grew up in the area where they settled after leaving the colonies - on property that my ancestors owned sine the early 1800's.

So, getting this far has been easy! And, others had already done the work.

Question / Help What is the current status of indigenous north american reference samples?

I believe Ancestry has a lot at this point, but I am wondering how diverse they are? Are many First Nations across the continent included in their database?

Honestly I have always been told I did not look Jewish because of my blonde hair. Also it was kind of funny to tell my friends that ethnically I am no where near Russian/German like my friends assumed. (My friends all know I am religiously Jewish) (GEDMatch is K13 & JTest)

I downloaded a userscript that fellow user on this sub u/strike978 has created and it helps me understand my results better. Interestingly enough both me and him have the same 1-3 percent range of North Africa where it is a tiny amount but not noise.

DNA Matches "Frequency of relationships" missing on a couple matches? How likely is this relationship.

Does anyone know why I can't look at the frequency of matches on a couple of my close matches? We don't know who our paternal great grandfather is. Great granny was a war widow, and had my grandpa in the few years between her first husband dying and marrying her second. We've definitely got some leads, but I'd like to be able to figure some sh*t out without paying too many monthly fees. One of my matches is predicted at 50% half aunt and 34% grandaunt. I can't see the other possibilities. I don't think it's either. My granddad got around, but I simply think he would have been too young considering he was about 10-11 when she was born if my light snooping is correct. I also know he can't be her full sibling, as they were definitely right about his bio mom according to other matches.

How likely is it that she's a half great aunt? If I'm right, potential bio great-granddad was a 3 time widower, and seems very possible he fathered a kid or two in between wives. I've messaged them, but have gotten no answer. I understand, esp if it's an affair situation. Just would be nice to say "Ah, we know."

I was looking at the hacked results and thought some of you might be interested in seeing the results of a child and both their parents and how their ancestry shakes out. Both parents are from upstate NY.

Has this happened to anybody? And it seems on Ancestry they only connect with other family members who have done it. For example, it only has the migrations of my maternal side but none for my paternal.
