Some complaints I have:

1. No way I have 8% English and 3% Italian, it makes no sense looking back at my family tree. Maybe 2-3% English max. It's more than likely confused for Iberian ancestry.

2. They don't have a region for Sephardic jews in America, which is where all of my Sephardic ancestry comes from, being from northern Mexico. They should either add a region for this or group all Sephardic Jews into one category. The names of these regions are misleading, knowing that none of my ancestors were Sephardic Jews who settled in North Africa or the Eastern Mediterranean.

3. The differences between people's normal results and hacked results are too much. Their rounding system is complete nonsense. For one example, my normal results show 26% Amerindian, but the hacked ones show 23%. They should either show these exact percentages or round better.

Anybody else having similar complaints or any issues I didn't talk about? I really hope this next update lives up to what I've heard about it.

I'm looking for some help understanding my dad's DNA results. We've done a lot of work on his paper ancestry and while we have a few small gaps here and there, we pretty much have 7 generations going back. He's about 75% German (we can trace them back to Germany), 21% Scottish/Welsh and 4% we're not sure about but suspect Irish and/or French Huguenot. We've found cousins matching on a lot of these lines so I don't think there's a lot of NPEs (everyone has a couple at a certain point).

Now here's his DNA profile:

England, Wales, and Scotland - 70%

Scandinavia - 5%

Iberian Peninsula - 10%

Italian Peninsula - 4%

West Slavic - 4%

Magyar - 3%

Baltic- 2%

The Scandi I can easily chalk up to Northern European DNA. But I don't know what to do with the Iberian, Italian, Slavic (probably Polish/Czech?), Hungarian, or Baltic. None of this is accounted for on the known paper genealogy (which again, we only have about 5% or less missing in the past 7 generations). And none of the known surnames fit any of these ethnicities.

I'm wondering if the historical regions his ancestors are from in Germany play into this mix of DNA: largely Osnabruck (northwestern), across the Rhineland-Palatinate, and a bit from the German part of Switzerland. Given historical movements that happened centuries ago, maybe this DNA mix is not as unexpected as it feels but really just reflects typical migration patterns in Germany 500, 700, 1000, and 1500 years ago due to wars/famine/religion, etc, that because of admixture are still bleeding through 1500 years later?

I ran his DNA through a Chromosome painter and while there are some distinct larger chunks of these smaller ethnicities (Italian, Magyar, Baltic, etc), they are pretty broadly dispersed across his chromosomes. Does this support my working theory?

Lastly, if the working theory is correct, does that mean at a certain point a long time ago, we did have Hungarian, Italian, and Baltic ancestors that presumably moved into Germanic regions 500 or 1000 years ago and enough of it intermixed over and over again in these regions and my dad happened to get a larger share of it than "expected"?

I believe Ancestry has a lot at this point, but I am wondering how diverse they are? Are many First Nations across the continent included in their database?

I was looking at the hacked results and thought some of you might be interested in seeing the results of a child and both their parents and how their ancestry shakes out. Both parents are from upstate NY.

Thought I would be more Sicilian since my last name is Puccio but I guess not 🤷‍♂️

Honestly I have always been told I did not look Jewish because of my blonde hair. Also it was kind of funny to tell my friends that ethnically I am no where near Russian/German like my friends assumed. (My friends all know I am religiously Jewish) (GEDMatch is K13 & JTest)

Me and my two roommates decided we should all do DNA test results, pretty happy with mine tells an interesting story. The journeys seem to lead along the Caribbean weirdly enough and up into the mainland USA.

I already knew direct German and Irish lineage, the others were new to me! Side note: I also found out that my grandfather married his first wife when she was 14.

Has this happened to anybody? And it seems on Ancestry they only connect with other family members who have done it. For example, it only has the migrations of my maternal side but none for my paternal.

Thought I would share my results along with the other DNA tests I've taken over the years.

For those interested in phenotypes, my hair is naturally mousy brown and I have hazel eyes.

On a Creekmore genealogy page, I found this message:
"Don't test your DNA unless you're prepared to find out that your brother isn't... your brother!"

Records do not tell us who the genetic/biological father is. Sometimes adoptions are kept secret. Elders make mistakes.

I've gotten a surprise or two!

Every name in the records that I've found is Scottish or English.

And, I found that Creekmore ancestry had already been established back to 1515 before I even looked.

Likewise, my great grandfather was a "Logan." I "googled" Logan and... there it was.

That is a heavily researced group that has been collecting male Logan DNA research for 20 years. They are a Scottish Clan, have an international group, and various social media pages.

My Logan line came to the VA/NC colony and then to KY. I grew up in the area where they settled after leaving the colonies - on property that my ancestors owned sine the early 1800's.

So, getting this far has been easy! And, others had already done the work.

I downloaded a userscript that fellow user on this sub u/strike978 has created and it helps me understand my results better. Interestingly enough both me and him have the same 1-3 percent range of North Africa where it is a tiny amount but not noise.

Showing up as 10cm, all of the shared matches are also Finnish. Very confused.
