I am a birth doula and somebody who occasionally shoots film in my free time (but am a big amateur). I have a client bound to give birth any day now. She is enthusiastic about having her birth shot on film (if possible).

I bought a Kodak Funsaver to use with flash when appropriate. I also have a Nikon FM with Kodak T-Max P3200 film. I checked with another doula who shoots births with film professionally and she told me she often uses this film since it's very good for dark conditions (most common at births). The lens on my camera is Nikon NIKKOR-H 28mm f/3.5.

I was wondering if you had any suggestions for me regarding the settings I should use or anything else that comes to mind? I realise that film photography depends on many variables and that I am grossly over simplifying and generalising by asking this question, however I would like to optimise my chances of getting any good shots since this is happening in a few days and since the conditions in which thiss will be happening are known to be low light, dark. Any tips welcome!

Hi, I just got some film back after getting it developed only to see that in some photos there’s a big black stripe across it. I have been shooting film on this camera for about ten years now and have never seen anything like it. I didn’t notice anything in the viewfinder while I was taking the photos, and the developers said it must have been an issue on my end. Anyone have any clue what might have happened? Was shooting Lomography 400 with a Nikon fm2.

...& everything had to go through an x-ray machine like at the airport, I had a roll of Ultramax 400 in my camera, what are the chances it's skunked?

I have been shooting with mirrorless for 3 years and I just switched to film a few days ago. Im a beginner in this part, like literally just learned how to load film a few days ago. I finished my first roll of film today and not sure how to go about it. I know to bring the film to the lab to get it developed but what do I do after? Do I let the lab scan the film themselves or should I invest in a scanner? Whats the pros and cons of each? TIA!

I have recently stumbled upon my father's Zenith 122 and wanted to try using it.

The Zenit 122 is a 1990's Soviet camera which has a 3 Led metering scale and is limited by its minimum aperture of f16 and maximum shutter speed of 500. This is somewhat of a problem as when trying to meter for 200iso which is what i usually use when shooting film it is easily flooded by light and limits the shots i can take.

This is why i was thinking of trying to solve that problem with a variable ND filter which i would leave on and use to avoid overexposing my images by properly metering.

Would anyone have any advice on what i could do and if this would be a viable option?

I am mainly looking for one that’ll be good for street, travel and other types (landscapes maybe, just depends where I’m at). I recently got a Pentax ME and I’m just getting into film photography. I shot my first roll of Kodak Gold (as a test) but most of the photos came out a lot darker and dead than I expected
I’m looking for a setup that’s easy to use while travelling since I’ll mostly be taking photos of buildings, streets, and places. I know every scene is different, but I’m just trying to find something that works most of the time.
Most of my shots were taken with the exposure compensation dial on either 1 or 1/1.25 and they seem to end up either too dark or too bright. They also don’t have the bright, colourful look I was expecting from Kodak Gold.
Would it make more sense to set the ASA to 400 and shoot at around f/11–f/22? Or am I thinking about this the wrong way?
Sorry if it’s a basic question, I’m still learning. I’m just trying to work out if the camera might have an issue, or if it’s just me getting used to film

I just received in the mail one of my dream cameras, the Canon New F-1 with and AE finder FN.

The seller listed the item on ebay as mint contition, specifically mentioning no mold or dust in the viewfinder.

However, upon receiving the camera I noticed though the frame is clean there is something that might be mold on the meter scale on the right and when I put the camera into aperture priority the scale on the bottom is hard to read.

I paid 360USD for this camera.

Would you recommend returning it for a refund or getting a CLA? I just don't know whether I'll get a unit in better condition for the same price. The camera body itself is clean as a whistle.

I ordered a Pen D3 through Buyee and it has arrived at their warehouse damaged. They included some blurry photos showing a piece of what appears to be black plastic that they say was loose in the bubble wrap when they inspected it. They said they're unable to determine where it came from.

The camera was being sold as fully working (including light meter) and free of mold/fungus in both the lens and viewfinder. I've not been able to find another that claims to be in such condition.

I've paid $115AU so far and it'll probably cost me another $30-40AU to get it shipped to me. They're offering to either give me a partial refund of ~$32.50AU to continue or a full refund of everything except their service/insurance fee (which was ~$10AU).

Not sure what I should do at this stage. If the camera's cactus then I don't really want it, but if it's just a piece of trim that I can easily glue back in then no worries. I tried to enhance the image a bit, looks like it might have some sort of glue residue on it?

my light meter on my camera (pentax sp-1000) is faulty, and is not working so ive had to manually meter my photos.

problem is i dont know why they are coming out overexposed. im running them at box speed (i did run some expired fuji c200 that expired in 2015, but i ran that at 100 iso instead of 200 and ran into the same problem) and most of my shots are between 4-16 on the fstop

my shutter speed has been 1/60 of a second for most photos, although the ones around 1/225 seem to have the least amount of overexposure. anything above 1/500 and the shutter is too quick and i miss half the frame

all of these photos are on a roll of harman phoenix II 200, at box speed. shutter speed was 1/60-1/125 on these. fstop for these were between 8 and 16. the photos of 22-30, and the mt washington skyline during the smoke pollution last thursday were on the 16 with the fstop. the photo of mt washington by the parking lot (across the street from the phantom menace vending machine) was taken with the fstop at 11.

all of these photos were taken between 2 and 3:45 in the afternoon on a sunny, but heavy polluted day. (wanted to take film photos of the wildfire smoke pollution)

conversely heres a photo taken with my phone on the same day and same area right after i finished shooting my roll of phoenix II

I’m trying to decide between an Olympus Mju I for €85 and an Olympus Mju II for €200.
I know the Mju II is considered the more desirable camera, but it’s more than twice the price.

For those who’ve used BOTH:
Is the image quality noticeably different?
How do the lenses compare?
Is autofocus more reliable on one than the other?
Are there any common reliability issues with either model?
I’d mainly use it for everyday photography, travel.

After browsing around my local listing on marketplace, Craigslist, and asking around a bit, I managed to get my hands on 2 packs of freezer stored Velvia and 2 packs of freezer stored Ektachrome/Ektachrome Plus. I immediately made the couple hour drive to go get them and was delighted after a test roll of each proved they where all in perfect like new conditions! Ive only used up a couple rolls, cant wait to shoot the rest, but its always a tough debate in my head weather i want all the perks of c41 or if the colors and sharpness make it worth the extra effort to shoot/develope e6.

Heyyyy, I just got myself my first analog camera in Copenhagen. I know that I don't know anything so I immediately joined this community. I love the thrill of not knowing how it looks until you develop the film.

So my question is, do you have any advice, or tools for me to make better pictures. It's a fully mechanical cam so it doesn't auto focus, I need to do the iso myself etc.

Thank god this is over now but I’ve spent the past 3 weeks traveling Europe, and have had no issues at all with airport security hand checking my film. Actually, London Heathrow had the friendliest sweetest agents who were more than happy to hand check for me. I’m flying home through Naples, and it was terrible. Went through 5 different agents who simply said it was impossible. I have Cinestill 800 and polaroid film and film loaded in one camera already and they gave me the hardest time. They were so mean. I finally got the supervisor to hand check after saying it was impossible a million times. I always have a smile and am kind to them so this just made me sad. Just sharing in case anyone is traveling through Naples

Went on a trip with the missus recently and shot a roll of Portra 400. I've had this issue in the past and am seeking some guidance on what I am doing wrong. Most of my photos from the roll look washed out, underexposed, grainy, and generally have this slight green tint to them. I shot a roll of Portra 160 two weeks ago and didn't have this issue, it's just an issue I've been finding with 400. Some correction in Lightroom fixes some of these photos but not all unfortunately. I'll add I've shot on my camera's automatic mode for the whole roll.

I own a Canon AV-1 and never had any problems with it. This time I had Cinestill 800T in as it's my favorite film stock and I took my time with it. I just got the roll back, or the first 17 photos to be precise. I will attach the last photo the lab sent. The camera never malfunctioned that I noticed, and I rewound the film as normal. I truly didn't expect this and I'm a little bit devastated. Since the lab wasn't very helpful, I was really hoping some of you could offer some advice or insight because I really don't want to risk ruining more film. I already replaced the battery even though I'm pretty sure the last one was just fine. Could this have happened due to X-ray scanner damage?

Do you guys prefer to take your nicest camera with you traveling or one you dont mind about getting ruined if something were to happen? I’m traveling abroad in a few weeks, I’m considering taking one of my tiny beginner cameras with me instead of my nice Minolta. The tiny camera is lower quality but way easier to travel with and takes okay enough pics; but my minolta is what gives me so much inspiration, its so much fun to shoot with but its so heavy and I would be beside myself if anything happened to it on this trip. Just want to hear other’s opinions. Thanks! (:

I’ve been testing out some cheaper black and white film (Agfa 400), and have had some pretty middling results. I wonder if there’s any tips or key ideas that can help bring out more from my photos, when colour isn’t something I can fall back on. Is there a mood that B&W has that I should lean more into?

The title says it all, I'm travelling to Bangkok for a quick day or two before heading to Vietnam and I'm wondering if anyone has a good film lab in Bangkok that produces high-quality photos and has a good stock of different film to buy! Any help would be great.

My first roll back that’s a total wash. The lab told me it was an issue with my rewind process as it was all jammed in the canister. I remember fumbling through the rewind, so it makes sense but wanted to double check here. Shot with an Olympus om-1 with xp 2 400 black and white

Hi, I’m not really a part of this world, but my sisters and I tried out an analog photo booth in France today, and, unfortunately, this is how it came out. I’m not sure what happened, but I’m wondering if there’s anything I can do on my own to make it any better? As far as I understand, it’s a real analog booth from the 60s (53 rue des Trois Frères), so at least trying that was cool!

Part of our lilac tree fell down a couple of years ago. Saved some of the branches and finally found a use for it. Made a simple grip for my newest camera purchase.

Fit is rough and homemade but it works 😊

The purple rings in common lilac is very beautiful and first time I've ever seen it.

Now I just need to finish my first roll in this camera and see if it works! It was a good deal on a second hand unit so I took a chance even with the bad reviews the camera has received. Everything feels great so far but the pictures will give the final verdict.

hello! a dear friend of mine recently had a baby, and shot one roll of C-41 film directly afterward — this roll contains the first photos of their newborn in the hospital and at their house afterward. At some point, some baby formula was spilled on their point and shoot, and my friend didn't know what to do so he gave it to me.

First Problem: the camera still turns on, but I couldn't shoot any more photos or rewind the film.

Second Problem: I opened up the back of the camera in the dark, and attempted to roll back the film manually, but still couldn't because i could feel that the baby formula had crusted over the film.

Third Problem: Since I can't rewind the film, I can't take the film out of the camera without exposing it. I assume i need to find a light proof way to transport this roll of film. I have a two reel developing tank for my BW processing, so I'm thinking i can go back in the dark, take the film out, roll it up around itself and keep it in the dev tank. But I'm not sure what a lab would do with this.

Fourth Problem: I closed the camera back up and I took it to my film lab in western MA (i'm now in NYC/Brooklyn), told them the story but they didn't want to take it because 1.) they didn't want to risk messing up this important roll, and 2.) they didn't want to risk messing up their chemistry.

So now I'm still trying to figure out how to salvage this important roll. I don't want to mess up a lab's chemistry, so I'm thinking if i can clean the film in a water wash in my dev tank, maybe that would fix the problem of lab contamination? I'd then keep the roll in water, take it to another lab, but would they be able to use that?

I've told my friend I might not be able to salvage the roll, so it's okay if there's no solution, but I'm not giving up just yet. Any advice is appreciated!!

I'm now in Brooklyn, so if anyone has any recommendations of labs for this, let me know!
