Let’s be honest a lot of the people freaking out about the new standards are the same ones who weren’t passing under the old system.

Having been in the military for a long time, I’ve watched good airman leave service simply because nobody holds anyone accountable anymore. People get away with "pencil whipping" paperwork and passing people who shouldn't pass.

I acknowledge that there is way more to being a airman than just a height/weight ratio or a physical standard. But standard discipline matters.

Whenever regulations change whether it’s beards, nail color, or grooming standards the common response to anyone complaining is always: “If you don't like it, you can get out."

Well, that same logic applies here: If you don't like the new height/weight tape test, you can get out.
Or better yet the easiest solution: Just go to the gym.

Anyone else in a MX unit with a ridiculous QA presence? Gone from fighter units to a heavy unit and heavies QA don’t play around. I know there’s some fails that are easy fails/deserved, but these people have been on the prowl failing folks left and right for the dumbest things that, from back at my old units, would be corrected on the spot or even ignored. Sometimes they just hang out in our breakroom and watch us eat. It’s so weird man. It feels like QA has shifted from improving maintenance quality, to finding every possible discrepancy, no matter how minor. I understand standards need to be enforced, but the current level of scrutiny seems disproportionate and is having a pretty poor effect on morale and the unit. It’s turning MX personnel into literal schizoids, and no matter how much leadership yells at us, we still get fails because QA gives them out like someone’s dealing them crack in exchange. Im only an E-4 I don’t really understand the system fully, all I know is that it’s clearly not helping mx the way it’s supposed to, atleast at my unit.

I am stationed in Asia, and would love to fly home for a visit. The only issue is that the only affordable airline (Cathay) does their layovers in Hong Kong airport. Leadership told me I’m allowed to layover there, but it is discouraged. My job is something menial and I definitely don’t have any information that foreign governments would care about. So, has anyone done a layover in China, and did you feel safe?

I’m new to the Air Force and just did 3 years overseas. My overseas cycle had one base back in May but I didn’t want to go there. Today my CONUS list dropped. No options were available. My DEROS is JAN 2027 and I have retainability till JAN 2028. So I’m assuming they have to give me an assignment. Does this mean I’m at the mercy of chance?

Also, I was wondering if it’s true that if I still fill out my overseas list, even if I leave out the base I don’t want, they can still give it to me?

Hi all, I was diagnosed with Celiac while in the Air National Guard and was given a return to duty determination with an ALC-3 code. I was hoping for a MEB since essentially no DFAC can guarantee a gluten-free environment free of cross contamination, which pretty much makes it impossible to go to any CONUS location, and obviously OCONOUS as well, although that is taken care of in the code I received. Is there any recourse to being returned to duty with a code or option to appeal? Or is this pretty much the final decision. I'm wondering if anyone else has been diagnosed with celiac while in the service and how they went about the process/what the final outcome was. I was told before going through this process that the typical decision is medical separation/retirement depending on severity.

I’m an Air Force vet and I’m just venting but I need to talk about the fact that I feel a decade behind the friends I had in high school. I felt like an adult in the service. Now
that I’m a civilian I feel like I’m starting at 18 again. I get social media is a highlight reel, but I find myself looking at these people and I feel completely left behind.

They stayed in our hometown or went straight to college, and now they’re buying homes and completely settled into stable careers, getting promotions and raises and doing bigthings.They’re showing off fancy home renovations and hosting neighborhood barbecues with people they’ve known for a decade.

Meanwhile, I’m now starting over and trying tomake friends in our new city and wondering what I’m going to do for the rest of my life.It feels like the prize for giving years of my life to the service is having to start all over
again from scratch. I’m renting a shitty apartment that I’m embarrassed for anyone to see. When I get invited to the backyard barbecues, I have no clue how to connect with people.

This is a very specific type of impostor syndrome and I hate it. Did anyone else go through this after getting out? How did you stop comparing yourself to other people?

I’m a victim of ongoing abuse and I’ve had enough. Are there any resources available to me through the military as a spouse?

Just got notified of selection to go to in residence NCOA, while I am currently on a 365 profile post surgery, with no future of being off that profile. It’s non duty restricting, only for PT.

Anyone been lately after all these changes that can tell if that will cause issues? Go against me for awards or be looked down upon? Can still do most activities and daily work, still fully worldwide deployable, just can’t do stuff that puts the hip in a lot of tension.

I have a conus assignment and I am currently under EFMP’s mercy. Has anyone moved their family to their gaining location prior to receiving final orders? I have been a frequent visitor of the EFMP office at my location but each time I go in I have had the goalpost moved further and further away. I have called and was told that answering the phone was them being nice on their end and that I needed to stop calling because 5 people are working my case and I’m taking resources from others. However, my application is still with the losing base SNC. We are doing a full PPM and PDD is set for 1 Aug.

So around 1.5 weeks ago I received an assignment to Eielson AFB, Alaska. My original date of separation was in 2027, and I was under the impression, as told by my leadership that I would be playing the stateside listing. Clearly that information was wrong, and now I'm left in a difficult position of having to extend or reenlist, for another 3 years, or canceling it, which from what I have read has its own set of repercussions. Mind you my DEROS is at the beginning of October.

Days closed for “training” are actually Squadron-wide grindfests.

How do you keep your ribbon rack & name tape sturdy? Best undershirts? Best ribbon rack company? Best gadgets to make sure everything is aligned correctly? Favorite shoes? Favorite garter straps? Favorite belt? Etc..

I am curious on if I will get money from DFAS until my VA disability kicks in. In addition, I'm 100% TDRL and was wondering if I needed to pay for Tricare. I haven't gone to my initial VA appointment yet; however, I have been having some medical issues and went ahead and self-enrolled in Tricare. If I don't have to pay, that would be great, but I wanted to know if I maybe jumped the gun.

I know a lot of CE stuff has been contracted out. And I remember seeing a Facebook ad for seasonal airfield clearing equipment operators. Just wondering if there is anything left for the DirtBoyz to do?

For those of you who went E to O into the medical career field, or maybe already work in that field… is anxiety medication a disqualifying factor?

Will being on a low-grade anxiety medication disqualify me if I can TDY, deploy, & do my job? Also, what if I could get off the anxiety medication?

My spouse and I recently bought a house, and that’s expensive!

So we are thinking of renting out a room to offset some cost. As an NCO are there any problems renting a room to younger Airman? Especially if they are the opposite gender of myself?

I ask assuming they won’t be in my unit or chain of command in any way

I want to get a second medical opinion for an issue I’ve been seeing a specialist on base for and feel like there ignoring/not addressing any of my symptoms. who/how do I go about obtaining that? am I best to ask my pcm? patient advocate? I asked the specialist kinda indirectly and they were like why bother I know I’m right.…

Today our unit completed 100% waist measurements. Along with the official FAC measurement, our triad wanted to see how consistent the measurements actually were, so volunteers also did a self-measurement and could be measured by our SEL and First Sergeant. I got approval to share the aggregate results and they're being briefed to Wing leadership.

For Airmen under 34 inches, there was basically no difference between any of the measurements.

Between 34 and 38 inches, both self-measurements and triad measurements averaged about 1 inch smaller than the FAC measurement.

Over 38 inches is where things got interesting. The triad measurement was the smallest in every single case. Self-measurements were usually about 0.5-1 inch larger than the triad measurement. FAC measurements averaged more than 2 inches larger than the triad measurement and about 1.5 inches larger than self-measurements.

The larger the waist measurement, the larger the gap became, this isn't a scientific study. But if someone is sitting near a cutoff, a 1.5-2 inch difference is a pretty big deal.

We also noted a small height measurement error. difference was less than an inch for all cases, but there was a clear distribution that someone who self reports over 5'11 will be overmeasured on height. And someone under 5'6 will be under measured on height. with the delta growing as you measure further from the median.
