Question Capturing & rebirth

Hello,

I'm very new to the game and got a couple of questions.

  1. When buying mementos from the shop, will they disappear after defeat?

  2. How do I know which monsters I already captured/ what would be the point of capturing another one of the same type? Only seems to make sense if you want to have more of them in your party or is there another benefit?

  3. When summoning I sometimes only have one monster available. I guess the amount of monsters varies on the amount of souls I have? So if I captured 5 different types before but only got 3 souls, it'll only show 3/5?

  4. One question regarding battles: is it recommended to go through every encounter on the map or that is up to my personal preference?

Thank you for your help!

Discussion Monster Sunday: Week 39 - Ranger

Good evening, everyone! Our monster this week has thankfully been all patched up, thanks to the noble efforts of our last guest. Unfortunately... I seem to have misplaced them... anyone seen a Ranger around here anywhere?!

Base HP: 25

Aether: Earth / Fire

Trait: Preparation): On Support Action: Applies 2 Stealth to self; if this monster has 3 or more Stealth, also applies Sidekick to self. On Sidekick Attack: Applies Burn to target monster.

Types: Sidekick), Burn), Force)

Perks: Sidekick Damage +1, Evasion +10%, Crit Damage +3

Starting Actions:

Hide): 1 Earth. Applies 2 Force to target ally. Applies Stealth to self.

Ignite): 2 Fire. 3 x 3 Fire damage against target enemy. Applies 2 Burn to target enemy.

So, what's everyone's opinions on this little guy? Unsung hero who never gets the recognition he deserves? Or does he always seem to slip your mind when party-buiiding? Let us know in the comments below?

Stiltskin vs Khepri Spoiler

Post image
12 Upvotes

My first time running Stiltskin. I wasn't entirely sure what I was expecting, but I ended up really loving them. Stiltskin may singlehandedly make Dodge builds work thanks to how quickly Tether can rack up with enough evasion. This run ended up being a Dodge/Crit/Sidekick focused run that abused the burn from Khepri to trigger as many retaliates as possible, Haste to reactivate monsters (Temporal Borealis if I need to save more Dodge stacks to fully evade an attack), and a whole lot of Sidekick to keep the damage going.

It also helps a lot that I got Vampiric Bite very early into the run (Nosferatu is probably unrivaled for doing this).

The real star of the show was Stiltskin though, the amount of Tether I could stack onto a boss after an AOE could easily make it so that my crits became guaranteed and did huge damage, feeding into the constant sidekicks that came from all 3 of my monsters having Leaves in the Wind.

If anyone's looking to do a run focused on the Dodge trait, I highly recommend bringing Stiltskin as your first monster.

Aethermancer needed their own Fungi monster for the Alchemical Woods - one of the reasons Ettin was a greatly fitting community design and ended up as one of the winning ideas!

I had knocked him down to zero during the transition from day tonight my Naga had a 4 of stacks of retaliate and proceeded to do all of its attacks bringing him down from like 200 to 0 HP and then the turn went on from there…

Discussion Monster Sunday: Week 38 - Caduceus

Good afternoon, everyone! Sorry for last week's mix up, afraid the merchant will no longer be able to bribe me out of the planned order. Unfortunately, I can't rule out whether he's still up to no good, because our originally scheduled guest seems to have fallen under the weather... fortunately there's a Caduceus here to patch them up!

Base HP: 35

Aether: Earth / Wind

Trait: Herbal Remedies): Aura: Whenever Echo triggers on an ally: Applies Sidekick to them. Whenever Sidekick triggers on an ally: Heals them by 3 and cleanses 1 debuff on them.

Types: Echo), Poison), Sidekick)

Perks: Debuff Mitigation +1, Heal Upkeep +3, Initial Sidekick+3

Starting Actions:

Soothe): 1 Wind. Heals target ally for 2 x 5. Applies Echo to target ally.

Venom Fang): 2 Earth. 3 x 3 Earth damage against target enemy. Applies 3 Poison to target enemy.

So, how does everyone feel about our winged danger noodle? The perfect remedy to a run going wrong? Or does he feel a little too venomous to trust as your doctor? Let us know in the comments below!

New Player Help

Hello, just found this game a few days ago and absolutely love it. I've been struggling to beat a normal run though, and after numerous failed attempts I figured I'd reach out to the community for some tips/tricks for the making of a successful run.

Some things that I get hung up on:

HP - Monsters have really low HP compared to the enemies you begin to fight, even in zone 2 and definitely 3. The amount of damage that you begin taking by zone 3 is really hard to deal with, especially considering your monsters may have 40-50 HP and they're up against monsters that have 100+ with attacks that deal 15-20 a hit. I understand we as the player always go first, so enemies need a bit more to be a challenge, but by zone 3 I'm usually completely overwhelmed.

Corruption - Kinda ties in with the HP part above. My monsters have a low HP pool to begin with, then we're also fighting a loosing battle against corruption from the get go. I try to get abilities/items that help, but most of their mechanics are pretty punishing - I.E. Can only heal a small amount of corruption once a battle.

Aether Generation - I have difficulty actually generating enough aether to use larger abilities. I try to use monsters that don't step on each other's toes (so to speak), but I still find that my generation of aether seems to be below most enemies I'm fighting. This is probably anecdotal and not true, but it really seems like it.

Reset Actions - What are reset actions? Why does it seem like every single enemy I fight has one and I don't? They essentially get free damage/buffs while I sit there like a chump.

I think that's all for now, I appreciate any insight/tips and tricks!

Discussion What monsters would you want to return from Monster Sanctuary?

Would love to hear which of your favorites from Monster Sanctuary you'd want to see again, reinterpreted for Aethermancer - or which ones you think would be exciting additions to the roster. If you have ideas for how they could work in Aethermancer, would love to hear that too!

My top choices would be...

Akhlut

I absolutely LOVE Akhlut's design, and it already feels right at home with the design philosophy of Aethermancer. I also feel like there's a real dearth of truly aquatic feeling Water monsters in the game at the moment. Speaking of, I think it'd be Water for sure, and maybe Earth? And it's gotta be Critical, Heal, and Echo. (That was actually what inspired this post - I thought of how perfect Akhlut would be for Echo!)

Manticorb

Best boy! Gee, do I miss this guy! And as the sorta-mascot of MS, it just feels fitting it should return to Aethermancer as a tribute! (Catzerker is a little lonely I bet!) I imagine they'd be Wild (or maybe, as a special gimmick, Fire/Wind/Water?) Aether, Critical, and Affliction, if it was a faithful adaptation of its archetype from MS? I think it'd be fun if it had a Signature Trait that translated Cataclysm into Aethermancer-mechanics.

Steam Golem

This one's a long shot, as I doubt we'll see any overtly mechanical Construct-style monsters, but I really love Steam Golem! Fire / Earth would make sense, with Tank, Shield, and Aether (to represent it as an 'engine' perhaps?) I think adapting the Fuel Passive into its Signature Trait would also be really fun.

Excited to see what monsters other folks would want to see return, and their ideas!

Rules for anyone who wants to figure this out:

- 1 monster only for the entirety of the run.

- alchemist is allowed, but signature trait infusion is not.

- any difficulty is allowed

- any accessibility setting configuration is allowed.

While I did make an attack animation additionally today I'm not super happy with it, lots of details and movement that could be added.

Meet a distant relative of Catzerker: The Cat With No Name is inspired by classic westerns, specifically the dollar trilogy

Elements: Fire/Earth

Types: Focus, Critical, Power

Unique Trait: Deadshot

Critical hits with focus can crit again through standard critical chance, multiplying.

Showcase My very first victory! (Mephisto was a last minute add but came in so clutch in the end!)

I'm gonna be frank, I had no idea what I was doing or how the passives worked. All I knew was the red dragon liked to heal then attack to give Power, Warden munches on Aether like it's candy and Mephisto gave Warden a payoff for his Redirect by dealing counter damage and causing Terror!
