I am a fully undocumented law student. AMA!

Upvotes

Please be civil. My goal with this post is to provide some perspective on what I know is a highly controversial issue, not to start a debate. I'm happy to answer questions about my experience living in the United States or my experience as a law student with different prospects than my peers.

Background:

I arrived in the US in December of 2007 at the age of 7 with a tourist visa. Because of my entry date, I did not qualify for DACA which required an entry before June 15, 2007. For the past 18.5 years, I have been living in the US fully undocumented. Today, I am a full-time law student in Chicago, having completed the majority of my education in the United States.

I went on a birthright trip to Israel (for journalism), AMA

I went on Birthright in 2018. I had just started school for journalism and I didn’t know much about the conflict (i was young, dumb, and fairly uniformed politically), but I thought it would be a good chance to practice reporting on a big story. I was imagining a Vice style expose and even wrote a pitch (that I never sent lol) for a vice piece. It was also a free trip to a part of the world I hadn’t been to. I consider myself anti-Zionist now, and what I experienced on this trip definitely pushed me more in that direction.

While we were in Jerusalem, fed up w/ the blatant, constant, and weird af propaganda, I walked out of the hotel and ended up randomly meeting a man who showed me around the Arab neighborhoods (some walled + guarded) and took me other places birthright didnt. He also told me all about the curfews and travel restrictions for some Arabs and Palestinians, and a whole lot more (which I verified for myself post-trip obv, as much as we’re able to verify such things when seeking info online from countries with severely corrupt governments)

The entire experience was surreal (derogatory) af. At the end of the trip, two or three people from my group stayed and joined the idf…

Anyway, posting bc I just feel like I had a unique experience that might be interesting to others.

**Edit: here’s a link to some photos I took on my trip. Screenshots from my Facebook so you can see the date. Also, I went in 2018, not 2017 oops.

I spent my entire senior year of high school juggling a sport or two, career tech classes and online college classes, being an assistant manager for a fast food restraunt, and taking up a couple internships in the mix. Now that I’m graduated, AMA!

For added detail, I did cross country and marching band in the fall, and did indoor and outdoor track for winter and spring. I had 2 internships, one in the winter, and the other went from winter to the end of the school year. I didn’t start managing until december of 2025, working around 30-35 hours a week, and moved past 40 hours once school was done.

I know people have done harder things, but just wanted to put my story out there.

I'm 20 at the moment. I started shortly after my 14th birthday. When I was younger, I did shoots for youth clothing. Now I model leather jackets and denim. I honestly enjoy the work, but there are weird things that go on behind the scenes.

I have lived in a tier 5 city and a tier 3 city. (Tier 1 cities are the most developed/rich, tier 5s are the least developed/rich.) It’s quite different to how I and my family members imagined it to be. I really enjoy my job here (English teaching) and recommend this profession to people often.

I'm 27 with a net worth of around €65M. Ask me anything

A bit of context:

  1. I'm 27 years old, from a relatively poor European country, and my net worth is around €65 million. At 24, I joined a company as a co-founder and founding product designer. At 26, I sold my 28% equity stake for about €52 million. Over the following year, I grew that to roughly €65 million.
  2. I don’t come from a wealthy family, as many people might assume. I come from a family that struggles even to be considered middle class.
  3. That isn't all liquid. If I wanted to buy something worth €65 million tomorrow, I couldn't. I estimate that I have immediate access to around €25~ million in cash and liquid assets.
  4. Money hasn't had any noticeable effect on my overall happiness, but I never expected it to. I've always believed that lasting happiness can't be obtained through possessions or external circumstances. The biggest difference is that I can take care of my family and I know I'll never have to work for money again. That gives me a great sense of peace. It doesn't stop me from working though. I genuinely enjoy what I do, and most days it feels more like playing than doing a job.
  5. I don't feel "wealthy" in the true sense of the word because I've had the opportunity to meet people who are truly wealthy. I just feel privileged.

Ask me anything.

I'm having my 5th miscarriage, AMA

I've had 5 miscarriages (one actively happening) and one healthy living toddler. Order as follows: missed miscarriage at 13 wks (measuring 11); two "chemicals" (4-6 weeks); 7 weeks; healthy pregnancy; and now a missed miscarriage at 11 weeks (measuring 9). All within the past 5 years or maybe less.

My heart is hurting but I thought this might somehow feel therapeutic or help someone going through something similar. AMA.

Was a hyper healthy motivated 23M, sickness derailed my life AMA

I was one of those highly motivated gym bros who was mega motivated and ambitious. Spent 90% of my time awake either exercising or working towards a goal. I had my own apartment and was very active socially.

I began becoming cemented in my career and was finally happy both in my career and my physique. I did my dream job as a tattoo artist and had an amazing schedule where i could still exercise 6x a week and lift 4x a week.

I was 23M:
H/W: 5’8, 175lbs
BF %: 10%
Bench: 225
Deadlift: 415
Squat: 365

I got long covid on december 8, 2023 during a snow boarding trip. I can no longer exercise and doing my job hurts my brain. Ive lost a ton of ambition/motivation due to my fatigue and i cant work too much. Ive lost about 40 lbs of all muscle, cant exercise at all or else my symptoms all worsen. I feel like a shell of my former self, my potential completely stripped. Look up QOL of long covid patients vs cancer patients if you dont believe me.

My symptoms:

- exercise intolerance/PEM (all of my symptoms get worse if i exercise or exert my body too much)
- fatigue
- insomnia (2-4 hour sleep intervals)
- mild cough
- chest tightness
- lower and mid back inflammationpain
- severe brain fog
- SEVERE anxiety and depression
- loss of appetite
- muscle weakness
- shortness of breath
- tinnitus
- dizziness
- lightheadedness
- dementia-like memory loss
- difficulty concentrating (almost cant read at its worst)
- pelvic floor spasms
- erectile dysfunction
- no libido
- restlessness

I’m 26 now and ive seen minor improvement. Just spent $10k on another potential treatment a week ago. Tried many treatments in the past 2.5 years

Law student dreading going back to school in 6 weeks. AMA!

I (23m) finished my first year of law school in May. I got to school pretty far from home, and where I went to college, and honestly, being back home for the summer has really made me realize how much I was missing out on during school. I've felt so much happier in summer and it's to the point I'm kinda dreading going back... anyway, ask me anything about law school, the law, life, or anything else!

i have magical concussions, AMA

i am a 20 yo female and i've had 7 concussions (i'll list the causes at the end if you wanna know how i managed that without playing a single sport in my life)

from what i've noticed, the brain damage has only caused a mild impairment to my speech. i may have acquired dyslexia but it's possible that it was developmental and just never caught due to how well i learned in other subjects as a child.

i have a nice paying job, moved out at 19 with a roommate and about to move into my own apartment, i have 2 cats i rescued from the street, i write poetry and im working on a monological short film. every one of those started with a concussion shortly beforehand.

my pupils are two different sizes and i stutter sometimes but my brain function has remained stable. every time i get a concussion, something changes for the better. maybe it's unrelated, but 7 times is a lot to be a coincidence.

causes (not in chronological order bc i don't remember)
1. car wreck where my seatbelt didn't lock
2. another car wreck, 4 car pile-up
3. slammed into my wheel well working on my brakes
4. fell out of a swing and broke a rock with my head
5. slammed my head into a cement wall trying to catch something
6. fell into the wood part of my couch head first
7. passed out in the shower and slammed into the wall

I helped a family member that lost over $250,000 in a romance pig butchering scam realize they were being scammed AMA

This is a lengthy thread so a couple things to start out; 1) I won’t be sharing the pictures that the scammer used, as that actual person is a victim as well. 2) I won’t be using my loved ones name, instead I’ll use the alias of John

This whole situation started in spring of 2018. John had a devastating life event occur and needed companionship. Naturally he got on a dating app and met someone and started chatting. John was a prime target for Pig Butching scammers as he was nearing retirement age, lived alone, vulnerable, and lonely searching for a connection.

In the beginning it was a lot of just chatting and getting to know each other. After some time it turned into little issues like ‘can I borrow gas money’ or ‘Can you help with a car repair bill’. After those tricks successfully worked, it started into the main plot.

When John insisted that they meet in person, the scammer stated that they were leaving the state to peruse modeling and joining a Modeling Training Program. This is when the massive amount of money started flowing out. The scammer convinced John to be their ‘sponsor’ for their modeling program and in return, after they made it out of the program John would get paid $168,000 every week in royalties from their modeling career.

Here is more context to the scam itself: The scammer had John send him all his personal information, address, phone number, Bank account information and SS#. On top of this the scammer had John sign a contract that promised to be their sponsor all the way through no matter what. Once in the Modeling program, the scammer requested money for anything and everything you could think of; housing cost, food, modeling regalia, transportation costs to events, etc. Of course, the modeling agency only accepted money via bitcoin or gift cards.

After two full years of the scam being in full tilt with $250,000+ out the window, John had cashed out all of his retirement accounts, sold a lot of possessions, started borrowing against future paychecks and was in imminent danger of getting his car repo’d and evicted. He had no money left and John came to me asking for a loan for an ‘investment opportunity’. Being family, this wasn’t an issue, but since it was a very large amount of $48,000 I wanted a lot of details. He started explaining the whole thing and I immediately told him he was being scammed. I won’t drone on and on, but it took me about a full year to finally convince him that everything may not be as legit as it seems, but he never fully believed he was being scammed.

I initially told John that I wanted to prove to him that he was being scammed and I asked for the pictures the scammer was using, I asked for the phone number(s), Venmo/Cashapp accounts, and for the bitcoin wallets. With the help of watching YouTuber’s like Kitboga, PleasantGreen, and Jim Browning I was able to try and show John how he was being scammed.

What I did: With John’s help, I was able to convince the scammer to click a link and it captured his location in Lagos, Nigeria. After a lot of effort of sending emails and calling, I was able contact the actual Model Management company and setup a call with John, myself and one of their directors. I had previously provided them with as much info about the scam as I could so when the time of the call came they were really helpful with showing John everything that was inaccurate that the scammer was saying. I was able to reverse image lookup the pictures that the scammer sent to John to real him in and I showed that the images were stolen and who they were stolen from.

With John’s approval, I was able to gain access too and actively monitor John’s conversation with the scammer so I could use the information in real time to head things off before money was sent.

Anyways, if you’ve made it this far, Im happy to share that after years of helping deal with this situation and lots of death threats John is in a much better place mentally and very slowly digging out of his hole financially. It’s been two full years since any money has been sent and a little over a year since he last heard from the scammer. AMA
