Turned on my car this evening and it started making this weird buzzing/vibration sound. Almost like a vibrating phone on a table, behind the center of my dash. Around the area of my head unit. Anybody had this issue before? No Check engine lights on.

Title says it all. I change my own oil all the time but I literally just spaced out and drained the transmission plug instead. Added the usual oil to the engine. It's been a few days but I haven't driven much, maybe 15 or 20 miles at most, and gently.

Am I fucked? Just dropped it off at the shop and they're going to drain and refill both. I felt some minor slipping but honestly it was driving perfectly fine, glad I caught it. Have a road trip starting this weekend so praying the trans is okay.

I have this leak, I checked my coolant, no bubbles or does it smell like exhaust. Could it possibly just be leaking outwards and not inside. Also if anyone has steps of replacing gaskets I would appreciate it. I found some vid but nothing really.. do I NEED to remove radiator when breaking down to gaskets . Thx

2005 v8 4Runner 317,000 miles

Air compressor started making noise and I had a great deal on a Denso compressor so I bought it.

Had a shop evacuate refrigerant, then installed the new compressor.
Had the shop re-charge it, but now my system high and low side are both overcharged. (95f ambient, readings are 60psi/355psi at idle, should be ~55/275)

Reviewed my process and I did NOT measure the oil from the old compressor. I just installed my prefilled new one. I didn’t account for the remaining oil in the rest of the system. I’m guessing I’m oil logged.

Today, I brought it back to the shop to have refrigerant recovered again and asked them to weigh it so I know if it’s overcharged with refrigerant or oil. Next I’m going to take it home, pull the compressor and dump out some oil.

Online estimates say around 2ozs of oil remain in the system. The new compressor came prefilled with 5ozs. I’m going to dump out 2ozs of oil and re-install my compressor.

How does this plan sound to you? Any critiques?

2005 4.7L Sport 200,000kms

I took my vehicle to a mechanic shop to get the shocks and struts changed out on all 4 corners. I told them to just snip the X-REAS system at the flex hose to each shock / strut as I'm just switching to conventional gas shocks. I also got new top hats installed for the front struts.

The mechanic said they had to cut the bolt to get the rear lower shock bolts out and use heat to get the old top hats off the front struts.

When I got the vehicle back these new dash lights were on. He came out, scanned it and all 4 ABS sensors had current codes. He reset the codes and only the front driver side ABS code came back, along with all of the same dash lights. He said he would order a new sensor and let me know when it comes in to bring back for repair.

Could this be from the X-REAS system delete?

Is the VSC and TRAC off because of the possibly faulty ABS sensor?

I assume it's still safe to drive?

On a positive note, the new shocks and struts definitely improved the feel of my ride over bumps.

I'm running the Dobinsons MRR suspension front and rear on my 4th gen ('09 V6). I have a decent amount of weight in the back (swingout with 35" spare), but the C59-675V rear long travel springs are still giving too much lift for my liking. I haven't measured, but it's gotta be at least 3".

The issue is that to level the vehicle, I need to crank up the preload in the front, but I then lose most of my down travel and it rides terribly. If I set the front preload to where it rides well (phenomenally really), then the vehicle has a silly amount of forward rake.

I know Metal Tech made long travel springs in the past, but they don't seem to be available anymore. Their medium springs seem to have a lighter spring rate at the top than the C59-677V (105/250 lbs/in vs 157/230).

Are there any other alternatives that anyone is aware of, short of adding more weight to the back?

I may finally be ready to lift my truck and Im only familiar with Bilstein kits..Is it actually great for a daily driver that still sees the occasional trail? For those who have tried, how has the ride quality and reliability been over time? Where did you get yours? Shock Surplus, mudify, or somewhere else?

I decided to do value cover gaskets over this last weekend on my 04 with ~190,000 miles. This is what my head looks like. Any concern here or is this looking good? I also should mention, that for some reason, the passenger side head was in slightly better shape

My 2006 has these pinstripes, were these a factory option? They’re basically missing from the doors and front fenders, and faded everywhere else. Kind of a sliver color - I’m not sure if they’re painted on or very thin vinyl, but taking it to a stripe specialist today to get my options. Due to shadowing (if they can be removed) I’ll probably go back with something, any color suggestions? Car is Galactic gray and pretty much blacked out.

Defroster works normal, AC can work but only works on the vent that blows down below. I cannot get the AC to blow through the main front vents across both driver to passenger side. What could this be? I definitely hear the AC but do not feel anything coming out. I think even one of the settings I could feel a little air but still very weak. Blows cold and warm no problem as well if that helps for diagnosing. 03, 250k miles.

Did a little work on the suspension recently. Replaced the aging XREAS with Bilstein 5100, new lower control arms (ball joint boots and bushings were rotted) and CV axles. Drives like a new vehicle.

Swaybar links and bushings will be tackled as soon as the heat breaks.

coolant goes to the reservoir but is not goin back to the radiator instead it’s gets fill more and more when I open the radiator cap in the morning the reservoir cap just fly to the air a lot pressure on the system the coolant is cold as it can get. I replace 2 thermostat and 1 housing and radiator cap twice the pressure is lower but the coolant keeps goin to the reservoir and not goin back and it just overflow on the reservoir but radiator it’s just empty. Car does not over heat it drives perfect but it does take its time to get to running temperature I also burpee it like 3 times. I don’t have white smoke or milky oil cap

Finally been working on my 05 v6 4R. getting all maintenance done and just small things to keep it going. Recently put a leveling kit cuz the rake was bothering me and slighty bigger tires. This thing is still comfortable and drives like butter even at 211k miles. My only issue is sometimes cruising through town I like to drive with windows down and one day I heard what seemed to be an exhaust leak (maybe at the exhaust manifold?) under heavy acceleration. I've done the ole chris fix it exhaust leak test. Put a leaf blower in the tail pipe and some soapy water at each flange and weld and even at the manifold but no bubbles.. wondering if anyone has had this same sound....? Is it just showing it's old age...? Regardless love this thing and has been so good to me through the years.

I’ve been hearing this noise for the last week or 2 at slow speeds, it’s a rhythmic metallic tapping noise that occurs at slow speeds and can start from 20mph down to stopping. I looked around and my brake pads had the anti rattle clip on the bottom so i went to Autozone and bought a second pair to put on the top of the pads as well. I can get it to happen 100% of the time by lightly tapping on the brakes when going 15-20mph and letting off to cruise and the noise starts until i put a good amount of pressure on the brake or when I come to a stop. I have also replaced both cv axles in the front since they were bad and made some noise when I wiggled them but that still did not fix the issue. I also changed the front brakes in January and have not had any issues since this past week.

The video is in a parking lot on a flat surface and I was traveling at about 15mph again and lightly tapped the brakes to hear the noise clearer due to no highway noise.

A second video, which I can not include, was taken on the highway in traffic on a down slope. I was at a stop and let off the brakes and the tapping started at around 5mph and got quicker until about 15-20mph when it stopped above that speed.

Pls give any advice or knowledge to help save some money. My thoughts is that it is possibly one of the front rotors that may have uneven wear that taps the brake pads at a slow speed. Thanks in advance.

I know from wiring trailers that there is an accessory wire on a 7pin plug. What I am looking to do is add light bars to my trailer and have them connected to a poverty spot. The light will be rear facing so I don’t want them always on, but I do want to be able to turn them on/off from inside my 4R. Any help is appreciated.

Brake light comes on and all the sounds posted in video.. usually right after starting my car- sometimes before I begin driving, sometimes right after I drive a block or so, and yesterday while I was going 65 mph on the freeway! Usually lasts a couple minutes or more. I checked fluids and all good .

I’m liking the idea of keeping my body as stock as I can, 04 V8. I want a spare tire mount that comes out of the bottom reflector on the bumper. Has anyone by chance built their own and have some measurements? Looking for a place to start before taking the bumper off. Thanks for any help.

Looking for some quick advice here I swapped the cat back exhaust yesterday and the original welded bolts on the y pipe were shot. One was halfway gone. One was completely seized and took a few hours to get the bolt out.

I am struggling with the best method/tool to cut the remnants off of the flange. I’m struggling to fit a saw blade in there because of the lip.

Would a dremel be my best bet? Or am I not thinking of something.

Hi all, if you remove the existing foam from the door panels and replace it with thinsulate, would that insulate the car better? Just a thought while I was sound deadening the car and noticed large gaps where you could drop in insulation.
