I’m a 34 year old (male) looking to join a sports club for fitness and to hopefully make some friends that aren’t work friends, I’ve played a lot of different sports in my youth but life and anxiety have gotten in the way for the last few years. Can anyone recommend any clubs that are welcoming of new people, have a friendly vibe and maybe have newbie sessions? Willing to try anything new

Hi all, just screaming out into the void, I woke up this morning to ride my bike to work and found the seat missing for the second time this year.
I found the last one in a local Bush about 100m away from where I keep my bike at the bottom of Nicholas Gardens so I'm praying to find it again, if anyone sees a bike seat and post (black with a little bit of blue) recently forcibly divorced from its bike in the area please do message me here.
It might have a rear light mount on it without a light (kept those on me after last time) but I found the mudguard torn off on the floor.
Where’s the best pub to watch? I know O’Neills will probably show, but any other decent boozers?
My son is looking for a job during his summer holiday and we have thought it was a good idea to put it up on here just to try our luck please let us know if you’ve got any suggestions or opportunities he’s really into cooking and has worked as a waiter previously for 2 years he also has his cv on hand if needs be

Our son has a hard time with nursery and so we’re considering a childminder instead. The problem is that one that’s available seem to be hard to come by.

I'm taking my daughter and a couple of her mates for a day out in York this week. I've been many times and normally just amble around the shops have a bite to eat. I was looking at some of the activities, and the prices are eye watering. Any cheap or hidden gems you could share to save my wallet. Places to eat would also be great.

There was a post about low water pressure around York probably linked to the flooding down Leemo.. it’s down to a sinkhole that’s appeared on Salisbury Terrace outside The Jubilee. It’s a pretty vital road from the west and north into the centre, but I can’t see this being fixed in a couple of days.

Hi everyone,
I’m due to give birth at York Hospital next month and I’m trying to finish packing my hospital bag.
I was wondering what supplies they actually provide for you after birth? For example:
Maternity pads
Disposable underwear
Ice packs
Peri bottle
Anything else for mum or baby
I’m just trying to work out what I need to buy myself and what the hospital already supplies.
If you’ve given birth at York Hospital recently, I’d really appreciate hearing what was provided and whether there was anything you wish you’d taken with you.
Thanks!

I am a postgraduate student in the University of York’s Department of Environment and Geography, currently completing my MSc dissertation research.
This study explores experiences of accessing and using urban green spaces among disabled and non-disabled groups. The research aims to better understand accessibility, inclusion, and barriers to using green spaces within urban environments through an online map-based questionnaire.
The questionnaire is open to all York residents aged 18 plus. It takes approximately 10 to 15 minutes to complete.
Participation is voluntary, and all responses will be anonymised and treated confidentially. Data will be securely stored and used only for academic research purposes.
If you would like to take part, please follow the questionnaire link below:
If you experience difficulties accessing or completing the questionnaire online, please select this option on the questionnaire, or contact me at [[email protected]](mailto:[email protected]), and alternative in-person methods can be arranged.

Just wondering if anyone else around Bishy Road is having low water pressure? Tried the Yorkshire Water site but it’s useless. Would appreciate knowing if it’s specifically us that have a problem

I know when I think of dating, I don’t want to go the apps route, I don’t particularly enjoy clubs, I don’t get wasted now I’m not in my 20s anymore
I figure - where am I likely to find someone I’d like to be with - and it’s in a gallery, a book club, a museum, heading out of a city screen halfway niche film (nothing too out there, I just mean like everything everywhere all at once).
Do you think a York singles group like the above sounds boring, or something that could work?
Because we just need to get it sorted if that’s what we want…!
I can’t be alone in thinking this?

Hello! I've done some searching, trying to find an agent in York who might be able to help me understand the process of buying a property in York, possibly help me with paperwork, legal side of things, etc.
I hate to admit this but I'm a USA (SORRY!) citizen WITHOUT UK citizenship. I lived in the York for a period of my life in the past and am looking for a path back here, ideally permanently. Buying a property might seem like a bit of a premature step, but I'm trying to really work towards the dream I have of getting back to the UK and back to York. At least I want to make some small attempt to take a step in that direction.
I will be visiting York briefly soon and while here am wondering if I might be able to find a buyers agent that might help those who are remote purchase a property. I understand this isn't super common the UK.
Like I said i've done some searching and googling and looking at google maps for businesses that might offer such a service in York, but it's not clear to me that they do. Ideally this would be a company / person / group with experience working with foreigners such as myself.
Any chance anybody has any recs? Or if not, any advice on how I might try to start searching for such a person/organization/etc? Thank you!!!

Has anyone visited the new st Leonard’s hospice at Clifton moor? Do they sell books by any chance? Thanks!

Hi everyone I’m looking to get some 3D printing done and was going to do this somewhere local in the York city’s centre/local area. I am aware that there are services online but was hoping to get local due to shipping costs/being able to pick up if local. The item is on the smaller size a DnD miniature to be specific.
Please comment below if you know anywhere to get this done. Thanks in advance

Hey everyone,
Looking for some honest opinions around The Groves area.
A terraced house has caught our attention that we like (me and fiance in their early 30s, no kids).
The price is decently in budget giving as room for some upgrades. Compared to south bank area where the prices seem to be 50-100k more for similar spec properties, this property seems like better value.
I know the area's older reputation, but I'd love to know what it's actually like to live there in 2026:
The Student Mix: How is the actual feeling in the area?
The Vibe: The proximity to the centre/YSJ is unmatched, but what does it feel like living there?
Appreciate any (good and bad) recent opinions and experiences about the area. Even comparisons to "Bishopthorpe road" area.
Cheers!

My partner and I 25m & 23f are new to the area and are looking to head out this evening and was looking for some recommendations.
Would be nice to see some live music, folky stuff is preferred but also open to indie ect, then wanting to go pubbing / maybe cocktails ect.
What would people recommend for the ‘best’ night in York. Happy to jump around to multiple bars :)
