Showcase Sinderlan - Westernmost Continent of the world of Perradin (Feedback Welcome!)

Post image

Finally bit the bullet and got wonderdraft, and I'm so mad I didn't sooner. I have been able to convert my older flat maps I've been using for years for my homebrew D&D campaign into a much more vibrant form, and I'm loving it. I would love any feedback people have, or some tips on how to ensure my map has texture and is visually interesting without being overly-busy. I've got two more continents that I've cropped out, as they're still a work in progress, so I'll likely end up applying what I've learned here to them.

If anyone has some recommended asset packs, free or paid, I'd love to hear about them.

A custom map I made for my Witcher DND 5e game. The game fizzled out, but i am really proud of the map. It is meant to be more topographical, instead of artistic.

Please let me know what you think.

Starting a new map and threw together a basic plate layout and then tried to recreate it. It's not entirely accurate as some regions needed more space. I'm not sold on it yet so wanted some feedback.

Discussion Newbie question about recreating a map

Post image

Hi everyone!

I recently bought Wonderdraft. I generated a map using AI to get an idea of what I wanted, but I'd like to know if it's possible to recreate something similar using Wonderdraft.

Are there any asset packs you'd recommend buying, or any other resources that could help me achieve a similar result?

Thanks in advance for your advice!

The attached image is the AI-generated map I made. It's just meant to give you an idea of the style and the kind of result I'm trying to recreate.

how to convert inkarnate backups to wonderdraft_map files.

I don't like it when data gets held hostage. My tool helps with that. Sorry for the spam but this is I think a quite usefull new feature.

  1. In Inkarnate, create/download a v3 JSON backup of your map.
  2. Open Miracledraft Map Helper and select: Inkarnate → SVG…
  3. Choose the Inkarnate .json backup file.
  4. Select where to save the generated .svg file.
  5. Open the generated SVG again using: the "Render SVG…" Button
  6. Configure the SVG layers and render the map as a new Wonderdraft map.

The generated SVG contains named layers such as Preview, Islands, Paths, Text, and Grid. If you want to use the original Inkarnate artwork as a guide you can open the svg in inkscape and extract the image.

Important limitations

This is not a perfect one-click conversion of the entire Inkarnate project. The converter focuses on recoverable vector data and the preview image. Asset placement, textures, and some Inkarnate-specific effects may not transfer directly and may need to be recreated in Wonderdraft.

The project is experimental and unofficial, and is not affiliated with Inkarnate, Wonderdraft, or Megasploot.

WIP AU Europe Map I have been working on. Any thoughts, advice, or questions are welcome!

Post image

The project is called Historica Arcana, its supposed to my version of europe. Its not supposed to be accurate historically or geographically, so please don't come at me for anything that isn't perfect.

This map is set in the late 15th century and is very much a work in progress, im not even half way done.

I've spent probably two weeks and easily 10+ hours on this and i just need some feedback from people who actually know what their talking about. All my rl friends and family aren't into maps or worldbuilding so they are encouraging, which is cool, but not very helpful.

Anyway, any advice, thoughts, ideas, questions or anything really is super appreciated!

Adding some lore here.

A long, long time ago, so long in fact, that when written word was first invented it was already an ancient story. The barriers between worlds shattered.

In an event now known as the Conjuction, earth and uncountable planes, dimension, and realms overlapped. Vile magics, and arcane creatures of all kind. From dragons, to vampires, demons and fae, trolls and leshy. Unholly, godless abominations beyond human comprehension. For a brief but horrible moment they all coexisted.

The world was anarchy.

Chaos.

And then they were gone. The dimensional barriers healed naturally. With them restored most monsters were evicted from earth.

Though not all is well.

While the barriers have recovered they are not what they once were. cracks and glitches in the walls between worlds open let anything step upon earth's soil.
People gifted with a certain talent, a particularly strong will, can draw on vile and alien to shape reality to their will.
Though most of the unholy creatures have been banished. That does not include their impact. The effects they had on the world.

Contrary to popular thought, not all monsters are gone. Some creatures have stayed behind. Haunting the countryside, forests, and mountains. Waiting for any unfortunate enough to wander to close.

This seemingly random cosmic event changed the history and very shape of the world forever.

i would like some advice on my first map ever.

For a TTRPG, the idea is to get a map where jungle and forest take most of the place with some moutains that make the travels quite hard

Wondering about the continuing development of Wonderdraft

Has the development of Wonderdraft come to an end? Given the planned phasing out of Rosetta with MacOS 28, I am curious if there is any chance a Universal version of the app will be released.

Also, maybe swamp in the east be better, if it was bigger?

tool for exporting/import wonderdraft map files to svg

Thumbnail github.com
6 Upvotes

Hi everyone,

I’ve been working on a tool for extracting and editing Wonderdraft .wonderdraft_map files.

The main workflow is:

  1. Open a Wonderdraft map.
  2. Export map layers such as roads, paths, labels, symbols, and territories to SVG.
  3. Edit them in Inkscape or another SVG editor.
  4. Import the changes and save them as a new Wonderdraft map.

It can also:

  • Edit the map data directly
  • Export and replace embedded ground, mask, and water-tint images
  • Remove off-canvas symbols
  • Resolve Wonderdraft default and custom assets
  • Extract core sprites from Wonderdraft.pck
  • Install tje Wonderdraft fonts on your computer
  • Works on Linux, should also run on Windows and macOS

I originally started it because Wonderdraft’s built-in extract/repackage workflow was unreliable for me on Linux. I just wanted to edit a few paths/roads that I misplaced. The project is experimental, so please keep backups and test edited maps before relying on them.

The project is public domain as ai code does not have copy right

I’d be especially interested in feedback from people who use large maps, custom asset packs, or SVG-based editing workflows.

[Question] Background options and resolution

I will eventually acquire wonderdraft to make my world map(s) and my initial idea is to use our real world map as a background for a matter of proportion and scale, and then draw a rough outline of my continents. Is that possible? If, yes, how do I do it?

Then, after outlining my continents, I want to copy pieces of this first sketch, make them bigger without losing resolution, and only then make the real maps with all the details. Is this possible?

The last question is how big is wonderdraft's resolution?

Currently working on a map (as you can see it's nowhere near finished), and was looking for tips and tricks given as it's my first time making any kind of map. I will definitely be making the coastlines better once I finish fleshing out the land.

Since you can only upload PNG's of 20MB or less to reddit, it's a google drive link.
