Oh like the invasive giant iguanas in South Florida that climb trees and also fall out of them.! They actually have falling iguana warnings when the weather gets too cold (like below 50) because they become paralyzed (temporarily) and fall out of the trees. 4 foot long dinosaur falling out of a tree on you is usually a bad surprise.
We have a neighborhood here that has a free-roaming flock. In the evenings, those things roost in the trees. Once, I was delivering an order and one of them swooped down out of a tree like Batman. Scared the shit out of me.
I had the chance to spend a summer in Alaska for field work/research. My first experience with a porcupine was hearing a weird noise above me and seeing one in a tree. Being a midwestern US person who had never seen one before I was so very confused because my brain never fathomed the possibility that those prickly monsters could climb and then could WWE wrestler drop onto a target.
Super neat critters and was awesome to get to see one.
That’s awesome, and happens to be the only place I’ve ever seen a live porcupine. I was in the Glacier Bay Area for a summer doing field research. Where in AK were you lucky enough to spend a summer?
One night at sunset, I was out in the yard enjoying the sky and the birds. The pleasant evening sounds were interrupted by a terrible scraping noise. There was a porcupine 50+ feet up a pine tree that was too wide to easily climb down. He slowly clawed his way down for at least ten minutes and rested at the bottom before scurrying off into the night. Wish there were more of them in NH, they're great!
In New Hampshire they fall out of trees all the time, beak their leg and then decide to eat my deck and hang out in my yard because they can't move far. Dumb animals lol
It was only a couple years ago that I learned porcupines were in the US. I don’t know where I thought they were, but definitely didn’t think they were here.
Last year, I saw a porcupine in the wild for the first time, I had no clue how big they are!
This video and all the pictures make them look like they're maybe the size of a soccer ball, max. But they're actually the third largest rodent in the world and the one I saw was bigger than my friends corgi.
There’s three different families (that I know of). The North American one, the giant African Crested porcupine (which do not climb trees), and the many South American porcupines (which have prehensile tails and big pink noses).
Oh yeah. They love it up there. The South American species also have prehensile tails. The big African crested porcupine are the only ones that don't climb.
I had to break it to my hubs that Jimothy was a trash panda with short spine syndrome and he was like is THAT what that thing is?!? I love it, no context, that we both just knew about Jimothy.
Thank you for this! I just did it, then told my husband about it and he's like, "Are you obsessed with that thing or what?" lololol. I just saw that the artist Henry created a Jimothy painting that sold for over $6500 with all money being donated to the Ballard Food Bank so Jimothy the trash panda is giving back to his own community, it's so awesome.

I'm am bewildered by the amount of people who have not seen everyday, standard, wild animals. Honestly. It's astounding.
This is very obviously a porcupine, yesterday it was normal raccoons. Like I get Jimothy bc he's a rare pokemon but it's getting out of hand how out of touch with nature everyone is that they can't identify animals they live next door to.
Look up porcupine eating pumpkin. There's a pet porcupine that gets fed treats like pumpkin, watermelon, fruits and veg that are good for it, and it 'talks' excitedly before and while eating.
I'm 43 years old. I've lived in Indiana, New York, Minnesota, and Texas. I recognized this as a porcupine, but I've never seen one in the wild and fully understand how this would confuse someone.
For those that don't know, you really want to leave them alone because their quills are barbed and a nightmare to remove. They're the one thing I worry about my dog running into more than a skunk, she tries to treat both like my cat and will happily go over to sniff them with no concern for the built in weaponry both have.

Thats a wild Green Beans, native to Fort McCoy Wisconsin. They are highly aggressive, carnivorous, amd can shoot their quills up to 50 feet. They do this to blind their prey before going up to them to feast.
At least that's what we told the soldier who was from Chicago about 10 seconds before trying to call it over to us
For some reason I’ve went 30 years not having the realization that porcupines just be out there. Maybe there’s just none in my area of the USA, but I’ve always looked at them like they’re zoo animals like giraffes & lions & I could only see them there.
It’s a crystal lizard from dark souls. If you get close to it it will run away for 10 seconds or so and then disappear forever. But while you’re chasing it it will lead you into the street and you get hit by a car and have to try again.
It looks like a porcupine, we have them (not as many now) in montana and they look just like that. They make really funny noises and also are very cute... just also pretty dangerous because the spines are barbed and hurt to pull out...
When we speak about fish evolving into amphibians and then later land-based animals, we talk about it like it's a process that was finished in the past, not taking into account that it might still be ongoing 😂
Hi neighbor! I live in NW OKC by Lake Hefner and saw my first porcupine in a neighborhood nearby about 7 years ago. I was as shocked as you that we have them around. Home you get to see them again sometime!

yep, that's a porcupine, and do not walk up to one because they don't spook very easily and they seem calm, but they can mess you up just by slinging needles at you lol
They're around my house too. I know that not because I've seen them personally but because I've definitely had to pull their quills out of my dog's face.
I feel like there is no greater proof ghosts, aliens, and cryptids aren't really than someone saw a f***ing porcupine and thought it was a dinosaur edit: I do want to believe in those things, I often feel like I have proof, but a p o r c u p I n e. A p o r c u p I n e. P o r c u p I n e.
