Moving to Castleford (Airedale) today. Any advice? 😁👍
What the title says. I’m technically homeless and staying with friends temporarily with the hope of getting somewhere as quickly as possible.
Any advice or suggestions or anything would be much appreciated! What’s the place like? Best places to go? Places (or people) to avoid, etc. The usual stuff, yanno.

One off / deep house clean recommendations
Hi there,
I'm looking for a recommendation for a good, trusted house cleaner to give my new place a really good once-over in Wakefield. The previous owners left it in a bit of a state, and I need to draft in some professional help.
Thanks!

Column: Cllr Karl Johnson, Leader of Wakefield Council. Headline: Change starts now
Let's see what I've heard before:
"Under the bonnet of how the council works" ✔️
"You are at the heart of everything we do" ✔️
"Things have to change" ✔️
"Last administration" ✔️
"Spending on things the council simply could not afford" ✔️
"This has to end now" ✔️
"We will be much more transparent" ✔️
"This is our promise" ✔️
"Summer of action" ✔️
Any others?

Beer Garden / Nice restaurant grounds
It is my wife's birthday on Friday and we intend to visit Nostell with a view to having a drink & bite to eat afterwards. I have a girl who is 6 and a 2-month-old baby so looking for somewhere pretty relaxed and casual to eat. Any suggestions? White Horse sounds nice, but I wondered if there are any hidden gems I can experience. I hope you lovely locals can help

Is this a real walking route?
Hello Wakefield, I will be passing through the outskirts of the town briefly and google has suggested this walking route over what appears to be a railway bridge. Is google maps hiding a footbridge from me?
This is crossing the River Calder just west of junction 39 of the M1.
Edit: Answered!

Wakefield Love Castleford Glasshoughton Area Feels Up and Coming?
I've been thinking about this recently, but I genuinely think Castleford and Glasshoughton have changed massively over the last few years, and for the better.
I know a lot of people dismiss the area because it isn't Leeds but youre close enough to commute into Leeds or Wakefield without having to deal with living in an super expensive part of the city or surrounding areas and you seem to get far more for your money.
One of the biggest positives for me is the amount of green space. There are loads of parks, walking routes and open areas, but at the same time you've got Xscape, Junction 32 (now called Frasers Leeds or something like that 🤣) and all the shops and restaurants on the retail park right on your doorstep, so everything you need is nearby.
You can still buy a really nice three bed semi-detached house for around £260k, whereas that sort of money doesn't go nearly as far in a lot of areas closer to Leeds (LS1) If you're a first-time buyer or a young family looking for more space, it feels like a really sensible place to look. House prices also seem to be rising steadily, so it feels like somewhere that's becoming more desirable while still offering good value.
Maybe I'm biased because I live here, but I do think Castleford and Glasshoughton are a bit underrated. It feels like the area's improving year on year, and I'm starting to notice more people choosing to move here and I love that for this area!
