News / PSA r/Wacom - Rules, Art Posts, FAQs

BASICS

If you haven't checked it out yet, we have two tabs on the Subreddit Menu bar for our Wiki and FAQs pages.

  • Read the Posting Guidelines before you post.
  • The Wiki has basic subreddit rules, reviews, links; as well as official Wacom information.
  • The FAQs is a good collection of frequently asked questions and answers. Visit the FAQ page before posting because you might find what you're looking for!

DRIVERS

To find drivers for your Wacom tablet, go to https://www.wacom.com/download and search by name (example: Movink") or model number (example: DTK-2100).

For a historical list of drivers going back 10 years go here: https://thesevenpens.github.io/DrawTabDataExplorer/drivers where you can find direct links drivers on Wacom's site.

PEN COMPATIBILITY

  • This List of Tablets & Cintiqs has a comprehensive rundown of most Wacom models and corresponding pens.
  • This List of Wacom Pens, will give you a good visual for a Pen you might have or are trying to buy after visiting the first Tablet list.
  • You can find Nib Replacements for pens from the last couple generations.
  • Wacom does not produce most older pens. So, you could have a hard time finding them and they may be expensive.

ART POSTS

We would like more people to post their artwork, but too often we get people just spamming and karma farming. Blatant self promotion is extremely limited, so when posting your artwork, tag it with the right flair and follow these few simple rules:

  • You can post a link to your art socials, but not in the title, only in a comment after posting.
  • Start a conversation: Ask a question, tell us what you struggled with, what your goals are, ask for critique, etc.
  • No blatant multi-sub posting or spamming your work here too frequently (karma farming).
  • Also tell us what software and hardware you're using. Neglecting this wont cause a removal, but most likely someone will ask.

Purchase Advice MovinkPad Pro 14 vs iPad Pro 13" with Paperlike nibs and screen

I've been wondering how different is MovinkPad Pro 14 (with Wacom Pro Pen 3) compared to iPad Pro 13" (M4) with Paperlike nibs and screen? How massive is the difference between the two? How would you compare these two in terms of drawing and 2D animation?

Purchase Advice Cases with stand for Movinkpad Pro 14?

Just got myself a Movinkpad Pro, but I can't seem to find any cases with stands incorporated into them. So far the only solutions available seem to be separate stand and a separate case.

Would anybody have recommendations for a sturdy case with a stand? Preferably something available in Europe.

Problem Pen Pressure issues with Wacom One

I'm struggling to use the tablet to create lines, but the problem is hard to explain to be honest. It seems to register a pen being used but it's struggling with the pen pressure. Sometimes there's no stroke, sometimes I only get the start start of a stroke, Sometimes there are gaps in the stroke, and sometimes I can get it to draw for a while after trying to troubleshoot, but leaving it inactive may or may not revert not drawing anything. There doesn't even seem to be specific parts of the screen being the problem.

Pen pressure hits at 0% in Diagnostics, and intermittently allows 20% after multiple efforts to troubleshoot but never 100%. x/y input normal.

OS: Windows 11

Model Number DTC133

Serial Number: 1HQ0171001058

Methods tried:
Device restart/PC restart
Nib replacement
Driver check/restart
Drawing Software update/ Alternative drawing software tried
OS Update
Screen cleaning

Any advice would be helpful, thank you

Attempted long continuous stroke from left to right

A family member was walking by my desk and bumped the pen when it was in the stand causing it to fall to the floor and the nib broke deep inside the pen , I can’t find any information on how to get it out or how to disassemble the pen.I only got to use my intuos pro twice and can’t afford to buy a new pen for now as I literally bought the tablet brand new less than a week ago . Any advice or tips , I tried the hot needle trick once but it didn’t seem to work I really appreciate any help.

Problem wacom cintq pro 16 connected to windows, only display not working

The part tablet part is connected so I can use it like a screenless tablet, but the screen is not connecting. The screen itself turns on and shows that the HDMI and USBC are connected, but the contents of my computer are not shown. When I try to use wacom center it says that a cintiq is not connected.

This happened to me before a month ago, but then the problem randomly stopped. Now it randomly came back. Any help would be appreciated

It seems that the HDMI cable isn't working at all and the USBC cable is connecting the inputs to the computer without connecting the displays. Do I need a new HDMI cable...? The USBC only connection worked fully when I connected the tablet to my macbook.

Question Is there a way to disable low battery message?

I have an old Wacom Intuos CTL-6100WL that I just removed the battery from yesterday because it was starting to swell and made the tablet bulge. It still works while plugged in without the battery, but now when I turn on my computer I get a popup from Wacom Desktop Center telling me the tablet's battery is low and to charge it by plugging it in. (It's already plugged in...)

Is there a way to disable this popup? It's not a big deal in the grand scheme of things but it is a slight annoyance to close it whenever I start my computer.

Question Is the Wacom Intuos M (2018) any good in 2026?

So I'm a beginner but I'd also like a tablet capable of making professional art. I don't want to have to buy another tablet down the line for $400 for a total of $500 to actually start drawing seriously.

So is it still a competent tablet?

Question Wacom Pro Pen 3 vs Lamy EMR/Staedtler/Wacom One Pen

Hi there! I want to buy Wacom Movinkpad 14 Pro, but it's not available in my country, so I will have to take the risk and order it abroad with no official warranty etc. But I heard that Samsung's tablets utilise Wacom's EMR technology... They don't support Pro Pens though. So I wanted to ask: if you have experience with both Wacom Pro Pen 3 and "simpler" alternatives like Lamy EMR/Staedtler/Wacom One Pen - how big is the difference granted I'll be using paperlike screen protector? Obviously, Pro Pen on original Wacom tablet gotta feel better than something like Staedtler on Samsung tablet with paperlike screen protector, but maybe that difference is not that great?

Purchase Advice Drawing tablet? (with screen)

wacom, huion, xp pen is what ive seen most people use (i think wacom is more expensive though?)

I've been drawing on my ipad but my wrist hurts after long periods so i was hoping a drawing tablet would be better. i want to practice art more so i'd like something durable and long-lasting? i've seen some concerns about certain ones.

I briefly used a display-less xp pen drawing tablet that was handed down to me by my brother but i dont have any drawing programs on pc so i used it a couple times to doodle on ms paint but barely got uses out of it before it stopped working.

i would like something under $200, but i can also find a used tablet online. I saw huion has some sales so im tempted but i dont wanna just get any drawing tablet, i would appreciate recommendations!

tl;dr: good not too expensive drawing tablet recommendations please!

Purchase Advice How much better are pen display?

Edit- apologies for badly worded title.

Im very much behind and would love some advice. I was a professional illustrator for a while then had to stop to take on a caring role in my family.

Im getting back to it now. I still have my A5 bamboo CTL-460.

How much of a difference do the pen display models make? And would a more affordable brand still feel like a big upgrade compared to my old bamboo?

The closest thing to a pen display ive used is doing art bits on my Nintendo switch, which has been really nice. I imagine pen displays are far more sensitive/accurate.

Appreciate any advice.

Problem Wacom One Small just stopped working on Arch Linux

I have been using it for months with the pre-installed drivers and it has been fine but yesterday it just stopped working. The little light doesn't even turn on anymore. I tried switching to Debian and changing the cable but it still won't connect. The USB ports are fine, but I don't have another computer I can use to check if it's a software problem. Do I just buy another tablet? Has this happened to anyone?

Problem Pen not Working

I have an Intuos S and my computer runs on windows 11. I have the newest available Wacom driver. My tablet often shows connectivity (indicator light on, buttons work as normal), but the pen shows no connection to the cursor. Putting it on the tablet surface has no discernable effect. This has been happening on and off for almost a year, usually I can get it to start working by spamming the buttons, changing the orientation of the tablet, or giving it a break, but yesterday it shut down completely and I can't get it to start again. I've tried updating the driver, Wacom diagnostics come up clean, I changed the pen nib and washed the tablet, I tried different USB ports, the works. What else can I do?

Purchase Advice Windows Issues?

Hoping for some kind advice.

I've been a Photoshop user (professional and personal) for decades. Finally going to purchase a tablet because I got a gig to retouch a ton of photos (scanned from negs). I've been retouching all this time with a mouse. I know. Crazy.

I use Photoshop on a Dell laptop. I'm about to purchase a Wacom Intuos Medium from Amazon, and there are a bunch of reviews on there saying that it sucks with Windows/much better on a Mac.

True? False?

I'm guessing based on years of retouching photos with a friggin' mouse (using my non-dominant hand!) using the Wacom will feel like I've been teleported to a new dimension. But I want to make sure the dang thing will work as described in a Windows environment.

Thanks!

Problem Wacom Cintiq Pen on Wrong Screen.

I'm having issues with my Wacom Cintiq Pro 16 pen. Despite drawing on my tablet (with the screen display on) it only controls the cursor on my laptop screen (basically it looks like the calibration if off by about a foot) . I've tried:

Unplugging and replugging every cable (my usual fix when things go wrong)

Updating the driver from the Wacon Center

Setting the tablet to my primary display through my laptops setting

Wacom Centre > Pen settings > advanced and playing with the pen tip to cursor alignment (makes no difference)

Restarting all my devices

Wacom Centre > display toggle. Played around with the settings and returned to default (no change)

Basically went through every setting in the Wacom centre and my laptops display settings.

I'm really at a loss of what to do now. I remember vaguely that this has happened before but I cannot remember for the life of me what I did to fix it. My only other guess is completely uninstalling and reinstalling the driver.

Does anyone have any other ideas?

Question How to disassemble Wacom Cintiq Pro 16 (DTH-1620)?

How to disassemble Wacom Cintiq Pro 16 (DTH-1620)?

Is there anyone who could help me with disassembling my Wacom Cintiq Pro 16 (DTH-1620)? I need to replace the back cover, transfer both cooling fans to the new cover, and then reassemble the tablet.

I found the iFixit disassembly guide for the Cintiq Pro 13, but I haven’t been able to find one for the Pro 16. As far as I know, there are quite a few differences between the two models.
Any advice, photos, or a disassembly guide would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Problem What caused my Wacom Intuos CTL-4100 WL to stop working... and then work again?

I draw for a living and this is the one tablet I have and used. I've had it for about four years now. Anyway, out of the blue, it stopped working yesterday. Restarted drivers, reinstalled, reset settings, it detected the tablet but not the pen! Tried turning laptop on and off, then tried using it on a different laptop- nothing!

Panic bought an old wacom on FB marketplace the same day for 15 bucks, a wacom CTH 480. And as I waited for the kid to show up, plugged my wacom into my laptop.... and it was working again. (The wacom CTH 480 kind of works by the way, only kind of)

What exactly is happening here? What could have caused it? Do I need to buy a new pen?

Question Tip Replacement

Post image
3 Upvotes

I inherited this from my aunt a couple years ago. I know nothing about it—besides that it’s a Wacom pen. Was trying to look online, but kept finding the slimmer models, so not sure which one this is and which tips to get. I love the tip on this one bc it’s so smooth so def don’t wanna get a crappy one.

Help?! Thanks in advance.

Question Is Movinkpad 14 pro good for...

Hi, Im finally able to buy the MovinkPad 14 pro from Wacom but I need some reassurance from people who have that tablet already on a few points:
1 - Is it okay-ish for gaming? the only game I need to run are Dokkan Battle and Sudoku... lol
2 - Is it worth it at 850 euros? 950 original price, - 100 with the university discount, no gadget tho
3 - Can I use the third party cover or are them useless? I saw pretty much 99% negative posts about the original cover/stand so... I already have a stand since I have an xp pen 11 pro artist, I can use that, but idk about the cover
4 - is software update an issue or can I buy that and be sure that it will last for 4/5 years?

I should specify that I draw quite a lot on my xp pen but I just want a device easier to setup, with less space (so no cable, no huge bezels ecc., and with a cool drawing area (14' vs 11')
All im gonna do with that is taking notes and drawing + the occasional Dokkan gameplay because most of my arts are going to be displayed in there!

Problem [wacom intuos/macOs 12.7.6] pen will move the cursor, but cant click or draw anything

ive had this tablet for a few years now as a replacement for my old one (same model) and its worked fine until last week, when the pen stopped drawing. the cursor moves both when its touching the tablet and hovering, but wont interact with anything on the screen if i click it. it shows that its registering the pen pressure when i test the pressure in the tablet settings though. the buttons on the side of the pen dont work either. i found this post about the same problem, and tried turning the drivers on and off again to fix it. it worked for awhile, but the problem kept returning and making me reopen the settings and do it again. every time i fixed it, the time between me fixing it and it breaking again got shorter. now im turning the drivers off and on again every 5-10 minutes. i realized i only had the touch driver added under accessibility in the privacy section of my security and privacy settings, so i added the tablet driver and IOmanager. now the problem still happens, but the fix doesnt work anymore. i also tried loading and unloading the driver via the terminal, and got nothing. im really frustrated, it stopped working right in the middle of a project and now i have no tablet. does anyone know how to fix this permanently?

im going to try restarting my laptop, but if that doesnt work i dont know what to do.

Problem Bamboo Pencil tips

Post image
3 Upvotes

Hello! I own the Wacom Bamboo pencil (I use it for my dell touchscreen for drawing)
Unfortunately I had a tip snap inside it (now fixed!) but I’m struggling to find tips that fit back into the pencil itself. I already bought some that are far too big. Does anyone know which ones are the correct ones to buy?

- note: sorry for the poor image quality, I work at a summer camp and we’re in a power outage due to a tornado
