Anyone had much luck making industrial keyboard type sounds on the Volca FM? I figured since its basically a copy of the DX7 and many Industrial bands used that extensively to get now well-known sounds I figured I could try to emulate them with the FM but it’s not easy. Not only because there are an endless variety of algorithms and endless fine-tuning to do from those.
I know the sounds I want so could post them for examples but was wondering if anyone has or knows of any specific recipes online or anything.
A got called Tonepusher has been making some great videos about specific instruments for industrial music from which I got a Dr. Rythm 660 and it sounds perfect for what I want. I just wanna get the rest of the setup right.
Thanks!

I am looking to purchase a Volca Drum to play alongside my BehringerPoly D.
What's the best way to put these two instruments together? Would it be best to just route them both into a mixer and then into my laptop to record?
I'm very new to synths, so I'm expecting everyone to tell me thats a bad idea. Thats the point of the post. Thank you.
It would be great to see photos of other peoples setups with these instruments.

Volca Beats, Behringer Pro vs mini, Stylophone
What would you keep out of these four if you had a new other drum machine and wanted to downsize your gear?

For years, Korg was the sole player on this “micro-synth” market. The Volca series offered a lot in their enclosures, for a somewhat affordable price tag.
However, for those last couple years, that has changed. Korg is now facing conpetition from Behringer (like their new micro-synths) and other companies. Those new contenders are coming with features that Korg has yet to implement, like USB-C power (instead of Volcas need of a dedicated power supply), internal rechargeable batteries (instead of using external batteries), bigger internal storage for files and presets and so on.
I really love the Volcas, but those features would be really appreciated. Korg really needs to change their upcoming Volca series, otherwise competition will get the better out of them.

Hey All-I got a Volca Bass a few weeks ago. I’m enjoying it but feeling limited by the small amount of sequencer banks and tiny keyboard. For those reasons I am thinking of getting a the keystep mk2 but I’m confused about some of features. Would I be able to utilize the slide controls and arp/chord modes if connected to the Volca bass?
I’m on a tight budget so I want to learn/build my collection piece meal but also don’t want to expect a lot of features from the KSM2 if they aren’t accessible when paired with a the VB.
If it is relevant-I’m not a performing musician just making sounds for myself to escape the world for a bit every day.🛸👽🛰️

On powering on, the play button blinks and everything else (including LCD display) remains dark. No amount of button pushing changes anything.... any ideas what could be going on? Have given the button contacts on the pcb a clean but no help, im wondering if it might be a deeper issue or some firmware thing. or maybe i didnt clean the contacts good enough and the button is holding itself down... not sure. Thank you <3

I've been learning to do my own 3d print designs and wanted a proper case for my midi modded Volca Modular. Case breaks assembles from 3 pieces using snap-ins and slide rails for the midi input end.
EDIT: for anyone wanting these stl files, I made a non MIDI variant as well, I would think it could fit other Volcas.

I want to preface this with acknowledging I'm basically an analog synth and midi noob. I've used FL studio for years, and aside from controlling my DAW with an midi controller, I don't have much more experience than that. I fell in love with the volcas a few years ago, but I gave up on the beat and drum because I felt too limited without being able to chain together patterns.
EDIT to emphasize: I want to control the VOLCA BEATS with programmed patterns in some DAW or have a standalone sequencer like a Beat step pro do the work.
I have tried multiple guides for FL studio, and I can get the two to play at the same time, but no sound comes out of the Volca. (There's another issue with this setup anyway, but I wanted to just make it work first before tackling that.). I even tried a few other DAWs.
First, I couldn't find any definite answer as to which midi note plays which sample on the Volca. I tried every single one. I then double checked that the Volca was receiving on channel 10, troubleshooting the other settings, and I still can only get the beats to play in time but without sound. Tried aux out and without.
Any help is appreciated! I love the sound of this thing, and it's fun to jam on, but unless I can chain patterns together, it's going on the shelf. I am also aware this is asked a lot, but I can't find consensus.
SOLVED!!! So I had to make sure the tempo on the beats and my DAW were the same.

Ok ok I know your all sick of this, but….
How the mother flipping heck am I supposed to load samples into my Volca Sample 1 now that all the 3rd party programs as suggested by Korg seem to have disappeared/shut down?!
I admit I have never loaded samples in and it’s all new to me but everytine I get the energy together to start researching it again it just ends up being the same endless loop of vaguaries and non-answers- IT IS SO FRUSTRATING.

Having some issues with my sync setup and wondering if there was any insight I could get.
My setup is a Volca Beats as the master tempo with it's Sync out going trs to my Akai Timbre Wolf. I use the Timbre Wolf's gate trigger output to sync my volca keys via 3.5 trs.
The volca keys ends up stumbling off time from everything else almost immediately.
BUT ONLY WHEN THE HEADPHONE OUTPUT IS PLUGGED IN!
I have tried plugging it into the beats as well with a 3.5 trs splitter but have ran into the same issues.
All the settings are default. Although it looks like I can't change Setting #8 on the keys at all.
TIA!

I’m debating between a single custom flight case for 8 Volcas (including 2 Volca Mix to power the other 6 instruments) or 2 Sequenz Carry Cases (pic).
Prices aside, the main advantage of a custom case would be the option to setup the audio routing and power cables in order to be able to plug & play the setup with minimal effort. But I’m wondering how “hackable” the Sequenz carry case is, and how far you can organize it in the same plug & play intent.
Thanks in advance for your feedbacks!

When the Volca FM2 sequencer is armed for recording, incoming MIDI notes from an external keyboard do not automatically start recording. This behavior differs from the original Volca FM, where this workflow worked as expected.
If this affects your setup, please consider [sending a bug report to Korg](mailto:[email protected]). The more users report it, the more likely it is to get attention and hopefully a firmware fix.
——————————————————
Full report below:
——————————————————
Volca FM2 Sequencer Does Not Auto-Start Recording on Incoming MIDI Notes
Description:
When the FM2 sequencer is put into record-ready mode (REC button blinking), incoming MIDI notes from an external keyboard do not start recording automatically. The FM2 sequencer only starts recording if the PLAY button is pressed, or notes are played on the internal touch keyboard. This behavior differs from the original Volca FM, where arming the sequencer and sending MIDI notes would trigger recording immediately.
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Connect an external MIDI keyboard to the FM2 MIDI IN.
2. While sequencer is stopped, press the REC button to enter record-ready mode.
3. Play notes on the external MIDI keyboard.
Expected Result:
Recording should start automatically when MIDI notes are received (as in FM1).
Actual Result:
Recording does not start until PLAY is pressed or internal touch keys are used.
Negative impact:
Introduces inconsistency with FM1 behavior and limits live recording workflow using external MIDI keyboards, particularly when using the FM2 synced over MIDI to other devices.

Is there a way to save the sound settings you want and then access them easily?
I need to be able to switch between at least 2 settings in a song live without faffing around finding the right ones…
I’ll admit I haven’t looked into this too deeply and all the save and edit functions on the FM as it would be easier if someone here could show me or link to a YT vid that explains it.
Thanks a million.
