Got a 3-day automod ban for "endorsing violence" by quoting his "maximum lethality" bullshit, didn't get overturned when I petitioned it.
It would be super duper cool if our elected reps had more concern than Reddit automod.

I got a Reddit warning for saying the White house was burned down in 1812 in response to their invasion of British North America. A historical event, in a historical subreddit.
Whoever is running Reddit now has an agenda.

Didn't he also mod jailbait when that sub was a thing
8
u/Meatslinger 14h ago
In the interests of fairness and accuracy, apparently that was back during a time when you could just add anyone's username to the mod list and they became a mod. It was done as a joke, not by spez himself.

u/AVeryVapidBadger 14h ago
Yeah but I do remember him not wanting to ban the sub until like attracted media attention

u/Dirty_Dragons 21h ago
There are no human admins.
24
u/IsReadingIt 20h ago
There are, they just take forever to review appeals. I've been falsely banned for 3 days and 7 days. The 7-day ban they overturned around day 4. The 3-day ban they overturned around day 60 (yes, 8 weeks after the ban had expired). They held in my favor both times, but that doesn't do me any good.
6
u/HealthyMaximum 16h ago
I got a warning for a comment 18 days after I made it.
Which was 17 days after it was deleted.
The warning didn't explain what the issue with the comment was.
... and I couldn't even go back and look over it with a critical eye, because the comment had been deleted.
... if you wrote that sequence of events in a sitcom about a tech company, it would be cut before filming for being too dumb and unbelievable.
10
u/Dirty_Dragons 20h ago
I've never had a ban appealed successfully regardless of how ridiculous the reason for banning was. My last 3 day ban was asinine and no human would believe that it was justified, and it was still denied.

It wouldn't be so bad if he just had to answer the questions asked of him. Like that's the part of all this that I can't believe; people can get called in front of Congress and just... not answer the questions. The fuck is the point of it, then?
It should be at least as serious as any regular ass trial. If you don't answer the questions honestly, you get your ass held in contempt, and sent to jail.
49
u/Merijeek2 20h ago
I always hear it's to get them on record so that such things can be used for campaign commercials and prosecutions.

So...good question. What's the fucking point?

The purpose is to put them before the American people and the people can do with that information what they will.
Many people have questions about this war and it's on the representatives to ask those questions. They can't make them answer satisfactorily.
If these appointees don't answer satisfactorily then it's on the people to vote accordingly, so we'll see.
14
u/Hairy_Technology_213 19h ago
In fact, both chambers of Congress have a power known as inherent contempt. That means exactly what you describe - they can arrest and detain a witness found to be in contempt of Congress. They have not used this power since the early 20th century, though. Witnesses might think twice about being evasive and disrespectful if they did use it.

A funny thing my cousin did, who works in military intelligence, made some boomer fb post (at the start of the war) about beware of Iranian sleeper cell activity because Biden let them in. Not that Trump started an unnecessary war, not that they know of some presumed threat on the populace and went to war anyway, not that they could have come during Trump’s terms or even Obama’s. If he’s what our intelligence community is made of then forsake all hope.
He was literally preemptively shifting blame on Biden for any possible actions of sleeper cell terrorists.

Seeing how easy it is for a nation like Ukraine to get Russian conscripts to post a bunch of intel to telegram, including videos of them traveling to the front, through the lines - the state of our intelligence branches is really concerning.
Must be nice for some other national governments though. I can't imagine a more desirable domestic political situation for US adversaries.

they don't hire them for their college education. many of them also primarily worship a president who has made many public statements insulting the military. who draft dodged, and is one of the biggest karens in the world. somehow they find some masculinity in the guy. but mostly, and same with maga, is that they've all been brainwashed to actually think democrats are demons. so their saying about voting russian over a democrat is true, they'd even vote for an actual real life piece of human poop - so long was it wasn't a democrat (and they did lol)

There's definitely a bit of selection bias for the kind of people that still post their thoughts to Facebook in the big 26. You read the thoughts and responses of intel bubbas here on Reddit and you'd probably see the exact opposite sentiments. The reality is that the military, like all large organizations, is a microcosm of the wider US population and their views and actions usually just reflect that.

The wealthy and the leaders don't go to prison. Or at least, they don't go to the same prison you or I would go to with violent felons, sex offenders, and gang members. The prisons used as state sponsored slave labor and often cited as human rights violations as the guards and staff often abuse inmates (and inmates abuse and assault each other too)
Rich people and political crime prisons are more like country clubs and retirement homes

Some useful terminology:
Kakistocracy: Government by the worst, least qualified, or most unscrupulous citizens. It is a system driven by incompetence, where leaders are chosen for reasons other than merit, such as nepotism or blind loyalty.
Plutocracy: Government by the wealthy. In this system, power is concentrated in the hands of the richest individuals, meaning policies are heavily influenced or determined by wealth rather than the will of the majority.
Kleptocracy: Government by thieves. Leaders use their power to steal their nation's wealth and resources, often embezzling state funds and funneling public money into personal bank accounts.

I know she has more points/questions, but it annoys me that he responds to her questions with non-sequitors and then she just keeps saying “I’m gonna move on.” That makes his non-answers stand as though he made decent points. She should hammer him on them.
“You said we decimated their missile program but they’re still firing. How’s that?”

If he’s not told that is a lie or non-answer and just asked a new question, that legitimizes the response. Say it’s a lie and why it’s a lie and THEN ask a new question. Don’t be coy and assume the audience got it. The audience is dumb as rocks.
