Photo Zero Leash Enforcement

You would think that someone who hangs out at surfer’s point all the time would want to keep it neat and clean, free of poop, and would be respectful of the areas where they’re trying to get plants to grow in order to mitigate beach erosion.

But no, there are plenty of local regulars who let their dogs off leash and somehow conveniently don’t notice when their dog poops on the beach and rips up plants.

There is no enforcement whatsoever. The police or animal control should really start ticketing these people. There is always poop all over the beach and walkways.

This big dog was running around hundreds of feet away from his owner. He’s always off leash. The owner didn’t notice or care that his dog left a big pile of poop.

"A Ventura County man was charged with murder in the shooting death of a 34-year-old woman.

Authorities identified the suspect as Gregory Lide, 52, of Ventura.

On July 19, Ventura police were called to a shooting on the 700 block of Olive Street around 3:24 a.m.

They found the victim, Brittney Stark, 34, lying on the street next to her car, suffering from a single gunshot wound.

Investigators said Lide and Stark were together at his home the night before. While she was heading to her vehicle, Lide is accused of fatally shooting her.

The woman was rushed to the hospital where she was pronounced dead shortly after arriving.

Lide was eventually identified as the suspected shooter and taken into custody at his residence.

On July 21, the Ventura County District Attorney’s Office announced he was charged with murder, possessing a firearm as a felon and possessing a controlled substance with a firearm.

He faces special allegations, including the personal and intentional discharge of a firearm and having a prior strike and being a prior serious or violent felon." - KTLA 5 News

Favorite spots?

Hello! I’ve got a friend visiting who’s never been to California/ the US before and would love some suggestions for what to do? Im from the area so naturally ive got my favorite spots/hikes/restaurants picked out, but id love some more suggestions if you have them! I’m trying to make the trip as fun and special as possible. I know my friend was really wanting to try as much good food as possible, and has mentioned being excited to finally trying good mexican food multiple times. Thinking of doing SB, Ventura, Oxnard, and obviously a bit of LA, Hollywood, and Malibu. Thank you:)))

Lost Surfboard at Surfers Point

My husband possibly left his blue/white torq fish 6'10 at the newer surfers point parking lot yesterday evening. If anyone saw it/has it/can return it, it would be so very appreciated. Such a bummer!

Edit: Board has been found and reunited!

Is it always this humid in the summer?

This is my first year here, wondering if it’s always this humid in the summer. When I first moved here in march I hardly even noticed any humidity. Just curious , I come from a very dry climate

Do you go to LA very often?

We're right next to one of the biggest tourist cities in the world, though I don't really go down there too often, when I skateboarded I used to go a lot more (LA has a skatepark for like every few miles)

Best food for Channel Islands?

Hey all - family of 6 (all grown ups) visiting in 2 weeks. We have a 9am ferry to the Channel Islands and need to grab food to eat before we get on the ferry for breakfast / lunch. Thinking like a picnic vibe (sandwiches, pasta salad etc).
Does anyone have recs that we could stop at before our ferry leaves? Probably needs to be an 8am activity, and obviously sandwich shops aren’t open yet.

TYIA!!

Looking for flow arts/circus community in Ventura

Hey y’all! I’m wondering if there’s a flow arts/circus community hiding around Ventura!? I’m looking to meet more creative people who are into things like fire spinning, hoop, poi, aerials, acro, circus stuff, making art/costumes, or just generally weird fun creative things!!

Would love to find people who want to meet up at the beach, practice together, bring music, teach each other things, or just hang out and make friends. Anyone know if there are already groups or meetups around here? Or is anyone else looking for the same kind of thing?

Would love to connect with some fellow creative weirdos in the 805 ✨

Commuting to Lucerne Valley from Ventura

I’m starting a prevailing wage job in Lucerne Valley next week and was wondering if any Ventura residents are familiar with the area.
I don’t have the exact job site address yet—I just know it’s somewhere in Lucerne Valley. I’m looking for recommendations on any hotels or motels that people have had good experiences with.
I’ll be commuting from East Ventura but most likely will get a hotel few days out of the week. I know I can Google most of this, but I’d rather hear from people who have actually done the drive. Has anyone from Ventura commuted to Lucerne Valley before? If so, how was it?
Apple Maps is currently showing about 2 hours and 50 minutes, but I’d be leaving around 2:30 AM to arrive by 6:00 AM. I’m also curious what the drive back to Ventura is usually like after work.
I’m assuming the route would be something like the 126 to the 5, then the 14 and 138, but I’m not sure.
Any advice, tips, or experiences would be appreciated. Anyways thank you

(Btw I’m only doing this because its a prevailing wage project starting next week till early January 2027)

UA local 484 Pipe Fitters Union Apprenticr

Has anybody gone through the apprenticeship program? It’s my first time ever trying to get into a trade and I want to try and either be a carpenter apprentice or a pipe fitter apprentice. I am trying to network and make some connections before I start because I’ve got a lot of questions. I’m going to submit my documents to start on this first Wednesday of next month, but was hoping to connect with some local union pipe fitters beforehand. Thanks guys!

Best place to see The Odyssey in Ventura County?

Trying to figure out where to catch The Odyssey and could use some input from people who've been to these screens.

I know the "right" answer is true IMAX 70mm but none of that is close to us... I'm mainly torn between Regal in Camarillo (IMAX) vs AMC in Thousand Oaks for Dolby. Anyone wanna tip me one way or another lol
