I will try to keep this explanation both concise and thorough. Any advice regarding further steps I can take would be greatly appreciated.

Back in early April I sold something to an acquaintance and he paid me through Venmo. In early May, he messages me explaining that he accidentally paid me using his girlfriend’s card that was linked to his account instead of his own card. Neither of them realized it, so apparently she thought it was a fraudulent transaction when she saw it in her bank and reported it through the bank (BOA) as a fraudulent charge. He found this out because Venmo froze his account, so he reached out to let me know what happened and that his girlfriend was contacting the bank to cancel the chargeback request. I checked my account and found that a hold had been placed on it.

A couple days later, he messaged me back letting me know that Venmo had unfrozen his account. At that point, I went ahead and reached out to Venmo to explain the situation in hopes that it would keep it from affecting me further since they had not released the hold on my account. Unfortunately, this did not help as the next day Venmo froze my account and initiated a chargeback for the full amount I was initially paid (which was more than the available funds in my account at the time, causing my balance to go negative). When I reached out to Venmo again, I received a response informing me that since the chargeback was initiated by the bank, I would have to wait for the bank’s decision on that matter and that Venmo would have to stand by whatever decision the bank issued. Furthermore, they said the review process could take up to 75 calendar days. In the meantime, if I want to restore my account to use, I can pay Venmo enough to cover my negative balance and then if the review comes back in my favor, I will be refunded my balance that was initially taken plus any additional amount I paid to cover the pending chargeback. I have refused to do this because I do not want to risk losing more money. I’m already out a few hundred dollars, I don’t have enough faith in Venmo to risk being out a few hundred more.

Since then, I’ve reached out periodically to Venmo customer service and have gotten the same basic response as their initial email regarding the review process, up to 75 days, etc. They’ve been no help at all. It’s now been over 75 days since this issue started and my account is still frozen. I’ve checked with the other guy several times and he’s confirmed that they canceled the chargeback through the bank. I am about to send another email to Venmo demanding they unfreeze my account and restore my funds that were basically stolen from me. I don’t see any reason as to why I am continuing to be penalized with no recourse.

Would it be worth it to threaten filing a complaint or report through the Consumer Finance Protection Bureau or some similar entity? Is there some way for me to contact the bank to request details of the chargeback and get official confirmation that it was cancelled? I’d like to trust this guy, but I’d rather have direct proof that he isn’t yanking my chain. I’ve just never dealt with a situation like this before and it has been extremely frustrating.

Received 8 phone calls back to back. Listened to the first voicemail and it stated “We're calling to confirm the registration of a new account using this phone number. If you're not trying to register an account, please press one immediately to cancel this process. If you are, simply ignore this message.”

I tried to ignore obviously, but kept getting call back immediately after declining.

So I answered and pressed 1. Sent me the 6 digit authorization code via text message. Then asked me to enter that code via telephone.

Immediately knew it was a scam. Logged into my account to verify there were no unauthorized transactions, then called support. They were immediately able to tell me it was a scam by verifying the phone number. Changed my password and removed all saved devices.

Just wanted to post for awareness.

I received $9999 over Venmo from inheritance. The sender was double charged, and so they opened a claim/dispute for the double charge. Venmo directed them to contact their bank, and the bank reversed the second withdrawal.

But then Venmo tried to take the original payment back. I had already transferred the money to my savings account, so my Venmo account was frozen with a negative balance.

I can't open a dispute over a transaction,. The customer service bot tells me to reply directly to the email notification, and the email says "do not directly reply to this email."

Can anyone advise where I might actually contact them? What number do I press on their phone menu to reach a live person?

How do avoid paying a fee when transferring money to a business? If I send money through Venmo with my debt card attached will that have a fee? Thanks

So, I was having issues with doing instant transfers from my Venmo account to my linked debit card, and customer support told me to remove the debit card, make sure the app was updated, log out, log back in, and then add my debit card again and try the transfer. Well, I did all of those steps.. except when I went to go re-add my debit card, I get an error message saying “ there seems to be an issue with the card you were trying to add, please try another card or do a bank transfer” or something along those lines.

This started a couple weeks ago and I have periodically tried to re-add the debit card, but it still fails each time and I get the same error message. I have since also tried adding different debit cards, which all get the same error message. Of course customer support is useless and can’t give me any details as to why it might be happening and even suggested at one point that it was probably my bank despite me telling them that this is across several financial institutions and different debit cards all having the same issue.

Has anyone else had the same issue and if so, how did you resolve it? Did you ever find out what the cause was?

I've been a venmo member since 2013... It's been great to me until a few months ago. I attempted to set up a business profile and now I can't make any transactions leveraging any of my bank accounts on my personal or business profiles. I've called venmo support 4 or 5 times and wasted hours for them to tell me "we're protecting your account" "we can't tell what the problem is it's an automated security *feature*"

I've got a useless venmo account for about 6 months now and support doesn't care.

I'm so sick of tech companies with no real support just leaving loyal members behind.

I'm a current Cashapp user, but I do remember using Venmo a very long time ago for online purchases like Steam games.

I haven't used this app in ages but I'm willing to try something new if it offers better features than Cashapp. Paypal also looks like a good alternative. I've also seen it being advertised as a game on Roblox.

What are some benefits of using Venmo over Cashapp? As a customer, how is your experience with support and account safety so far?

I called them a couple months ago. They said they fixed it (LOL). No. I called them last week after getting two more emails. They tried to tell me that it was fake spam. But I have combed through the raw email to check for phishing links and malware. None. I informed them that it was genuine email from venmo. They kept up the lie, and I asked for the matter to be escalated. They called me back twice and lied again. I think they pretended to transfer my call, but it was the same person. Gee, why does this remind me of a kitboga video? Hmmm... After the last time they said they'd call me, they haven't. Other context: I have ethical problems with "just block the email address and move on." 1) I don't want them retaining any shred of my info. 2) I despise this kind of incompetence. I'm not just going to be cool about it. 3) Clearly it's in a part of their system that sends freaking email, so it can still get leaked. And I can't trust them any farther than I could throw one of their data farms...

I doubt that I do have an option. But is there any kind of formal request for personal data?

Another intolerable option is giving them a photo of my state ID in order to supposedly regain access to my account. I have every reason to believe this will not work, and then they'll have a copy of my ID which WILL be leaked to the dark web.

Is there a way to link between a PayPal and Venmo accounts so that I can add funds to the Venmo balance from the PayPal balance?

Yea as the title suggest i was dumb... It was a simple 50$ transaction which i dont really care about but the main worry is can they grab more? If they cant thats awesome we live and learn from mistakes and move on but if they can what steps should i take? Like can they grab more from my bank account? Thank you for the help!

Ive had this twice now, im in Australia and have never used venmo in my life.

A while back i got an email stating, check my history. I managed to log in by forgot password and then closed account.

Now there is a new account and there is a (7xx) phone number attached to it so i cant close it.

Can anyone shed some light on this, please? I dont really know what to do.

I got my account suspended with 400$ in it and venmo is doing little to nothing to let me access my money. I have contacted support and they say it takes uo to 7 days to review. I dont understand how they can lock your money when you are the one using the account and even sent them my driver's license but they still need more information. And now their office that can fix it isnt open on the weekend.

Is anyone else having these issues? I can’t log into the app, but I can log into the website. When I click on instant transfer, the page does not load. Everything else on the site loads fine, but transfer just gives me a dead page.

I’ve deleted and re-uploaded my bank info, my card info, etc. I’ve tried 3 different banks I have accounts with (and yes plenty of money in the account to cover the transactions I’m trying to do). The message I keep getting is “please contact your card issuer”. But it’s 3 SEPARATE banks not just one bank that I need to verify something with. This has been happening for a few months now. I figured it was a Venmo side issue and would fix itself but it hasn’t. I’ve been using Venmo for 6+ years now with no issue. I contacted Venmo support and it’s useless.

All I want to do is send money to family members. My main bank doesn’t use Zelle and it’s a huge pain in the ass to transfer money between banks just so I can use Zelle.

I received an email denying my dispute that said to email [email protected] to get documentation. I was also told to use the email by phone from a customer service agent.

Emails to this address get immediately rejected by the venmo server/domain bc the email address does not exist.

Has anyone actually received their documentation from venmo? Who did you email to request it?

Maybe this will help someone else, my instant transfers were not working properly, and I found out the reason is because my bank account has both my last names separated by a hyphen where as my venmo just had both last names separated by a space. Dumb bit once this was corrected instant transfers work perfectly now.
