Creative My spouse and I have been building the same Valheim world for four years. This is our capital.

Hi everyone :)

While cleaning up our server for Valheim 1.0, I realised we had never done a proper tour of our capital.
My spouse and I are from Austria, and we have been building this same private world together for about four years. The city isn't the only huge project we've built over the years — it grew over time: one building, one road and one "small addition" at a time.

The long road from spawn leads directly into the city here. Because the capital has grown together with the rest of the world, it is now a mix of older ideas and later additions. At this point, I don't know if it will ever be completely finished. :D
Walking through everything we've built now takes roughly eight hours, but the picture/tour stays inside the capital and follows its streets on foot.

Build info: Stability is enabled. We use PlantEverything and an item-spawning mod for decorative objects. This is our private two-person world, and everything you see was built and placed by the two of us over the years.

Do you plan large cities before placing the first piece, or do yours also keep growing until you suddenly realise you have built a capital? ^^

Survival Fuck the Ashlands

The ashlands are impossible. I finally found a fortress but can't get anywhere near it. Built a little grausten shack to attempt to build up to get ready to try to take the fort, but I am attacked and slaughtered faster than I can even see what is killing me. Can't make any progress because I use up resources faster than I can find them just trying to stay alive.

Fuck Ashlands and everything in it. Everything up until this biome was awesome, but this biome makes me want to delete the fucking game.

Edit: Obviously I don't mean literally impossible, just extremely grindy and unfun, even on 3x resources and easier difficulty.

I'm gonna put it on passive, get what I need from this biome and never come here again.

Survival Meadows is the worst! Can't win any fights here!

Help, I can't survive in the Meadows! I was told this game was hard, but I didn't expect the green things to bite quite so hard, and the boars are chasing me relentlessly! I got a stone axe and tried bashing them, but then the night came, and I just got swarmed! This biome is way too difficult for a beginner. How would you fix it? I am already terrified even thinking about the first boss!

Upd. I really love how supportive and helpful this community is! I admit, that the post was more of a joke, but seeing how everyone is giving productive and real advice really touched my heart. Love to you all, vikings!

Creative You know how Lego sets used to have alternative builds on the back of the box? Long story short, I built a couple of the alternative 375 castles in my Valheim town. I love them so much.

I found this website called "back of the box builds" that has instructions for a bunch of the models that used to be on the back of the Lego set boxes. Some of them looked so cool...I just could not help myself.

These are not "official lego" models...not really...maybe sorta. They were on the box...well...technically one of them showed up in a Lego Ideas book back in 1980. One of them is a near perfect rebuild of 375. The stability on the taller one was a bit of a trick. I'm not 100% sure how it's actually stable.

Anyway, I also found alternative builds for the blacksmith and I started working on those too. Not done with them though, so I'll wrap those up when I can.

However...I am starting to wonder if we could build the old Lincoln log sets...not sure. Maybe? If I ever run out of Lego sets I might try that...or maybe someone with a stronger connection to Lincoln Logs will.

Survival My Mighty Defenses (Solo, Just Killed Moder, forgot the Trophy...)

Post image
18 Upvotes

This is one of my solo games, where I took over one of the abandoned villages for my base. It's resisted everything so far.

As a base it has 1 active defense and 2 accidental passive defenses.

First defense: No be there. This being Valhiem, I spend most of the time away from my base. Hard to be raided at home when you aren't home.

Second defense: Footprint it is big enough that when I am raided it's only from 1 side, and there is no super vulnerable spots. (Though there was an epic brawl with a skeleton surprise by the smelter.)

Third: the split-rail fence. It slows raiders down just enough that I can meet them at or past the fence.

In no way am I claiming this base is well defended but it is adequately defended, so far. I would not want to have a "You are Being Hunted" while here, though.

Creative I also did the Alternative Builds for 6040. This added a small roadside tavern, another wall, and a gate. Not bad.

6040 (blacksmith's shop) was one of the rare sets that actually came with instructions for one of the back of the box builds. From what I can tell...it might be the only one. But, I found instructions for 3 others.

This also gave me a chance to try some new approaches to doing that "castle wall sections" piece that comes up in Castle sets All. The. Time. Mostly, I redid the top feature and how I do the windows. I like these windows MUCH better.

Idea Favorite Biome to live in?

Hello Vikings.

As we approach deep north, I find myself wanting to make an end game base in preparation for my characters last journey into the unknown. I play solo and with no mods, so I’m thinking a fully kitted out midsize build with end game materials would be a cool thing to put together over the next few weeks.

I’m looking on the north end of the world for this build to make for an easier launch when deep north arrives. I know I’d like to avoid the swamp, kindof like the thought of a tall mountain base to catapult out of, and mistlands/plains islands are always rad.

I do want your opinions tho, what is everyone’s preferred biome? Anybody undertaking a similar venture? Let me know!

EDIT: Thank you for all of your perspectives! I am now home from work and am going to boat around looking for pretty mountains with helpful biomes nearby! Skal!

So the Tankard has a block force and parry bonus to rival a wooden shield, without the movement penalty or durability decay?

I can confirm it's actually darned good at parrying. I'm still trying to figure out how to backstab with it though... lol

Question Incompetent gamer needs help

So, I'm in the swamp. An 'Abomination' has twatted the boat where I had some surtling core to make a portal home. I have another boat nearby because I died once.

I'm currently hiding in a crypt. There's something I have yet to identify swooping around outside. It hit me once and sent my health down -30.

How the hell does one get out of this particular predicament without getting killed and sent back home?

Survival Fuck the mountains I will see them in hell

The swamp was easy. Everyone said it was hard, and they lied. You kill the monsters and run. I get to the mountains and its hell. I've died three times now compared to one time in the swamp. But, once you die, you come back with less gear and skills. Oh, and god save you if your frost mead runs out. God save you more if you die in a dungeon, your meager 56 health from whatever you have at base won't save you from 2 cultists and their fire. Once you do get your stuff, good luck getting out, your final challenge is 39 drakes and a wolf.

10/10 biome very pretty and I love crystals

Discussion Mistlands -- Where did you start hating it?

I've played Valheim for years, but I finally decided to go to Mistlands after doing everything I needed from Plains and Hildir's quests. I've heard a lot about how Mistlands is Valheim make or break for a lot of people.

I love the Mistlands! It's so creepy and I'm constantly on my toes, the risk of being too far from safety, the weird dvergar camps, the jotun remains. Recently went into an infested mine and had a blast.

I was completely prepared for the biome I believe, and I am just starting (got a black forge and made the spear and 2h sword). When did it break you as far as making you stop playing? I feel like I'm having a blast here.

Question How much blood magic is enough?

We all know leveling blood magic for big shields is a nightmare, but a 700hp shield isn't really necessary.

But that begs the question, how big is big enough? Anyone know of a sweet spot where the shield strength is more than enough?

Question Best Solo Build For Ashlands

As the question says. I'm currently stuck in the Ashlands as a solo player. I'm not sure whether I should lean into a more hybrid mage/flametal armor build or fully commit to either before I can clear my first fortress.

Any suggestions from ppl who have done this before?

Survival Second time on Valheim. Sometimes a hooded figure appears and my ass barely survives. Spoiler

First time I see the hooded figure, right after landing on another island for the first time on my second playthrough
A few hours ago, when I left at dawn to cut down trees. No sooner had I left my wall than I...

This is my second time playing Valheim (the first time I got stuck in the Bronze Age). The first time I set sail and landed looking for a swamp, I saw a hooded figure in the rain and almost freaked out. I thought my head was playing tricks on me (I didn't look at the screenshots. I took them in a daze and had other things on my mind at the time).

Today, going out to chop down trees in the early morning while the kilns were working, I saw it again very close and clearly. Damn, it scared me half to death. When I got closer, it just vanished from one frame to the next.

I guess it's Odin as an easter egg, but damn... I didn't expect this game to have its own Herobrine.

Question Builders unite! How can I create more interesting base shapes/layouts or better looking bases!

I currently looking to move my base and just looking for general advice on how to improve my bases as I am truly a builder at heart, my builds have to be PRETTY!

Whats your advice on how I could make layouts or their designs more nicer? as times it feels as if they feel too much like rectangles with small bits jutting out.
[Current area: black forest] if that helps.

Survival Ironic that our viking hero cant dive or swim

I have 1.5k hours, next to Kenshi Valheim is my favorite game. I'm am a paid diver in AK for 13 years. Cold water divers of olde times get my respect. "The Old Gentleman of Raahe" is the oldest known dive suit. Those crazy sobs dove for wrecks in 30-50 degree water in a suit made of skins and some rubes on bellows. The viking were the first known to sail to america, they held swimming competitions. And their neighbors created the first dive suit system. Tell Irongate Coffeestain the sea should be biome 7. Valheim 1.1?
