New Student Fall 2026 Admissions Megathread
Congratulations to all the new Wolverines! Please use this thread for topics related to the Early Action + Early Decision decisions that are being released. That could be getting in touch with other admitted students, learning more about starting at U-M, financial aid, etc.
We are not the admissions office, so please contact them for the official word on any of your questions.
Please do not use this thread to post your application stats regardless of if you are admitted, deferred, or denied. Per subreddit rules, chancing or stat posts are not allowed. Comments and posts breaking these rules will be removed.
If you are accepted, congratulations! If you were deferred, make sure you send updated transcripts that provide your grades from the previous semester. You can also submit a continued interest form to let Michigan know you still want to be considered..
Due to the heavy number of Early Action applications Michigan defers a high number of applicants. In recent years a large number of students that were deferred have been offered admission. More details about the application/admission process are also written up in the Wiki.

Housing 2026-27 Housing Megathread
Questions, answers, and information about everything housing can go here. Please let me know if you see anything that needs to be updated or any new information that can be posted/linked to.
- Housing Survival Guide by u/fluffymoomin - PDF guide. Essential to avoid being scammed.
Listings:
Area Facebook Housing Groups - Facebook group list compiled by u/fluffymoomin - Groups are listed with descriptions as well as safety recommendations. Not all groups are moderated well, be careful regardless of the group, moderators are human. Do not pay money to post in any facebook group. It's a scam. The ones that ask for money are no different, or worse than the free ones. Any reply asking you to message or dm them is likely a scam.
UofM offical off-campus housing site - You can now sort by recently updated listings. You can post listings or as a person looking for housing/roomates. They charge for property listings, but offer free sublease listings. Also people simply post in the roommates section that they have a place they are looking to fill as well.
Ann Arbor off-campus housing - This was the site that uofm used as their official site until it was replaced with the site above. One of the biggest gripes I had with this version is that commercial properties were updated every day, so sorting by new was tedious to find new listings as a bunch of the same commercial properties would be "updated" each day to be at the top.
Zillow (ann arbor) - Zillow
Roomies.com - Roomies.com you can search for listings and roommates by location. Even though it's apparently a national site, enough people locally use it that it's worth taking a look at.
Apartments.com - Apartments.com
ICC Co-ops - Inter-Cooperative Council page for Co-op housing.
Craigslist Apartment search - Usually spammed by the same area complexes over and over, which is what made craigslist so hard to use and forced people to facebook. There are still some listings here though, it just takes some scrolling.
Resources:
UofM Housing site - UofM on campus focused housing (dorms etc)
UofM Resident Hall Association - UofM's Residence Hall Association Website -- UofM Student Government Resident Hall group.
UMICH Beyond the Diag - UofM off-campus housing site.
Uofm Student Legal Services - Housing - Uofm's Student Legal Services Housing Portal.
Washtenaw Community College Housing site - WCC Housing site with some resources and listings.
Washtenaw Housing Alliance Shared Housing Program - The program connects people who have extra space in their home in Washtenaw County with people looking for affordable housing, with support to help create safe and compatible matches. We work with both Home Providers (homeowners or renters with a spare room) and Home Seekers.
UofM Parking site - Information about permit, and free and commuter parking.
Ann Arbor VeryAPT guide - List of apartments in the area, over 200. The listed rents are low, at least 2-3 years old, maybe more, but gives a good overview of the entire area. Most comprehensive listing I've seen in a readable format. Only reason this isn't under listings is because all of the rents quoted are old and there are no links to the actual websites, just a form for contact email that goes who knows where. Use this to find places to look at more in depth, contact them directly on their actual websites.
VeryAPT Ross MBA 2026 guide - Specific and updated guide targeted at Ross MBA's.
VeryAPT Umich Med 2026 guide - Specific and updated guide targeted at UofM Medical community. (staff or students dunno).
Michigan Medicine Housing page - Michigan Medicine's housing page for incoming students.
UofM Wiki Housing Section - Short overview of each residence hall - current students please feel welcome to add more info!
Ann Arbor City report on Waitlists - Ann Arbor Renter's Commission report regarding waitlist and pre-tentancy fees.
By city ordinance I believe, private renters are supposed to have certificates of occupancy/rental permits from the city. You can search by address. (There will be lots of people who don't have this but it's something to check) *Ann Arbor building rental and inspection services
Ann Arbor renter permit system 1 - You need to look in both systems, the old and new as they are running concurrently.
Ann Arbor Renter permit system 2 - This is the newer system. In both systems you’re looking for permits that start w CR.
[/u/derplunker's permit search tool that searches both of the above permit systems] - (https://streamscape.rightspeed.workers.dev/) - https://www.reddit.com/r/AnnArbor/comments/1sxp68g/free_permithistory_lookup_for_any_ann_arbor/
Michigan Daily article about your rights as a tenant. Dec 6, 2023 - Dec 6 2023 informative article.
Ann Arbor Area Transportation Authority/TheRide (AATA) - The Ann Arbor transit system. Bus fares are free swiping your m-card.
Social media/community resources:
Ann Arbor subreddit - Ann Arbor based subreddit.
UofM student-run discord server - Lots of people here to ask questions, there's a housing channel among others.
Ann Arbor Community discord server - Ann Arbor based discord. Housing channel here as well.
Off Campus Housing Subleasing Recommendations and Guidelines - Subleasing specific FAQ maintained by Jordan Else, same as the general FAQ below.
FAQs about the U of M Off Campus Housing Market for Parents - Document maintained by Jordan Else, member of the Ann Arbor Renter's Commision and area landlord.
nobeal.com - An independant website talking about Beal properties in the region. Not a flattering review.
Past resources:
UofM CSG 2018/2019 Housing Survey Report - pdf download
Remember to exercise caution when looking for housing. Lots of scammers out there. Check their main profiles if on facebook to see if they match the user who reached out to you. See if you can verify them anywhere else that they actually live in the area. Beware of people pushing you to send deposit money without showing you the place. Please refer to the PDF survival guide located at the top of the post. It can save you money and just as importantly time, not having waste time and effort to interact with scammers. Most instances of people telling you to message them as replies to your posts on facebook are scams. Make sure they have listings on the group, not just replies to people looking as comments like that can't be screened. Most legit people will contact you first and have a listing already in the group.
Remember never to give your uofm ID student ID number or a picture of your student ID to a 3rd party site for subleasing.
They can't even verify numbers are valid.
Disclosure could cause limited harm to individuals and/or the university with some risk of civil liability. May be subject to contractual agreements or regulatory compliance, or is individually identifiable, confidential, and/or proprietary.

Fall sublets will be uncommon. Most of the Winter sublets you've seen posted are people who failed to find a Fall-only sublet and are trying to recoup some of the un-used lease remaining. Be especially wary when searching for Fall-only sublets. Scammers count on people being desperate to bypass their warning senses. Some apartment complexes like Woodbury Gardens(2-15 and 21 month), and the complexes owned by Village Green(6 and 9 month) may offer shorter lease terms than 12 month. Be aware the shorter term leases will be more expensive per month. Mckinley Properties don't allow less than 12 month lease but they offer a early termination option which costs 2x monthly rent and requires a 60 day notice. This could be just as good as a shorter lease. I'd confirm it with the leasing office but this should be for all washtenaw county mckinley properties.
The Ann Arbor city bus line can make some affordable locations more practical. Your student ID lets you ride free. A short bus ride can be not too much worse than a medium/long walk. Beware some buses run more commonly than others
If there are any resource additions or corrections let me know.

Class interesting class but bad professor vs uninteresting class but easy
i have an 8:30 intro to graphic design class on north campus with jill greene whose reviews say that they would rather get hit by a car and to avoid at all costs. BUT i am interested in ux design and i think this course would be interesting. OR i could take earth 120 however im not sure if the prof is good since i think she's new and also idk how engaged i'd be in the material but ive heard its easy. the class is at good times and on central IDK WHAT TO DOOO!!!!!!
could i just do both classes and drop one of them during add/drop period without any consequences like a W on my transcript..?

Parking / Transit How does parking work?
I’m an incoming freshman who is dorming and I already have a car. I also have a job lined up in ann arbor buts it’s kinda on the outskirts so i’d like to be able to drive back and forth, plus I currently live like 30-40 minutes away so I would like to keep it to come back home. I’ve heard that passes are only for juniors and seniors but i’m pretty sure that through the school and was wondering if the city had parking or anything like that. any info helps.

Meme My sister told me about munger and I didn’t believe her until I found this review
Whoever designed this place should honestly be held accountable—this building is just wrong. A windowless "room" (which isn’t even a real room, let’s be honest) is more like a prison cell, except you’re allowed to leave. No natural light means no circadian rhythm, which means you’re constantly fighting your own body and mind. It will mess you up. And for what? Over $1,000 a month—for a cell. In Ann Arbor, that kind of money gets you a real place with actual windows, fresh air, and, you know, basic human living conditions. If you’re looking to ruin your mental health, this is the perfect spot.

Academics - Other Topics genetics (bio 305)
Anyone who took BIO 305 in the summer last year or even the year before please help me out. Does it get better? I did everything and my score for the first exam is disappointing. I’m above the average but that’s not what I was aiming for. Plus they say it was supposed to be the easiest exam and the avg was 69

Academics - Other Topics Quick laundry survey for my ES 414 course project (U-M students & Alum, ~2 min)
Hey all! I'm a U-M student finishing research for my ES 414 course project. It's about how people keep track of their laundry (forgetting a load in the machine, walking down to the laundry room only to find it's still going, dealing with shared dorm/apartment machines, etc.) We're testing a possible product idea, and campus laundry is basically the perfect use case.
It takes about 2 minutes and asks for no personal info.
Would really appreciate your take: https://tally.so/r/KYNGYz
Thanks, Go Blue!

Miscellaneous Why is everyone so angry?
I’ve had to speak with the In-state residency office, financial aid, admissions, etc and EVERYONE is so angry. 😭😭 In the worst mood ever. I’m scared to even call with my questions anymore. I’m a non traditional student so this system is not built for students like me so there are a ton of questions that I have and every single time they are so MEAN lol. No matter how pleasant and annoyingly nice I try to be. I was concerned about my in state application not being approved in time and the person I spoke to today literally told me to just unenroll if I didn’t think I could afford it without the application approval ! 😭 🧍🏻♀️
I don’t even know if that was good advice??? Do I just unenroll? The residency office said to defer until winter so I know it will be squared away in time which I found out was not even an option in this circumstance so who knows????
Is it always like this? :(
I’m coming from a community college where everyone was usually pretty nice save for a few bad days that we all have sometimes. Should I unenroll and try again next year? I can’t afford the tuition without the Go blue!
Edit (I’m currently 16 weeks out from my application submission date for in state residency and the office said they don’t know when it will be reviewed)

Academics - Other Topics Thoughts on this tweet by a Umich prof?
Rudi Bachmann (econ prof) just posted this. As a Latino myself, am I overreacting, or does this come across as a racist dog whistle?

Academics - Other Topics Rate my schedule [Junior ME Student]
Hey so I'm going to be a junior and wanna know if this looks doable. Keep in mind that I will be having an internship as well that requires 20 hrs a week (which is why I crammed the labs for one day lol).
Do you guys have any tips or heads up or time commitments for the classes I'm taking [ME350,ME320,EECS314]
Thanks!
Miscellaneous lanyard or badge reel poll
help settle a friendly and sorta dumb debate among my friends: does a lanyard or badge reel give off more “grad student vibes” (i.e; you see two identical people and one has a lanyard and one has a badge reel, which one are you guessing is a grad student)

Academics - Other Topics EE Sophomore Course Planning
Im a rising sophomore planning to declare EE and am interested in the embedded/chip design paths (looking at EECS427 for MDE).
Now that I am done most of my core classes (math115/116, phy140/240, engr100/101, chem130, some IB/geneds) I am struggling to figure out which course path will best prepare me for internship recruiting.
I have no incoming credits so a little worried about the workload over the next few years. Here is my tentative course plan, id love some thoughts and improvements.
Soph Fall: math215, eecs280, eecs215, tchnclcm300, 4 cr IB
Soph winter: math216, eecs270, eecs216, eecs200, 2 cr IB
Junior fall: eecs301, eecs230, eecs320, ioe202(flex tech)
Junior winter: eecs312, eecs300, ULEE, 4cr IB
Senior fall: eecs427, eecs400, tchnclcm496, 4cr flex tech

Academics - Other Topics placement exam
I got placed into Spanish 231 but I went through the syllabus and reflected on my own ability to speak Spanish and I feel like I would struggle and fail Spanish 231. I got put into it after taking my placement exam, which I mostly guessed on. I only took up to Spanish 2 in high school. What should I do and who should I talk to be put into a lower level of Spanish?

Social Welcome Week Parties at 17?
This is such a non issue to ask about, but I thought I might as well 😭 Are freshman who are still 17 by the time welcome week roles around still allowed into the parties?? Because I see a lot of posts on social media that they’re only 18+.

Academics - Other Topics Opinions on Best Time/Structure of SLC Study Group Sessions?
Hi, I'm a new SLC facilitator this semester, and I was wondering, for anyone who has been in an SLC study group or will be signing up for an SLC study group, if there's a certain day of the week/time that they can most easily, consistently join weekly?
I'm also curious to know if there's been particular things anyone has liked or disliked from SLC study groups, and anything they would like to see in the future from a facilitator? In my experience attending study groups, for example, there were certain structures that I liked more than others.
I would love to know your opinion even if you have not/will not be joining an SLC group! Thank you! ❤️

Miscellaneous anyone need a (free) twin bed?
galleryedit: pending
we have an incredibly basic ("from Wayfair or something") twin bed, with a mattress, that i'd like to get to someone who could use it. We used it for a kid a few years.
The headrail can be attached (bolts are there) or left off.
I have a truck and can deliver it anywhere around campus, as soon as today, (at no cost)
sheets and pillows not included
