New Student Fall 2026 Admissions Megathread

Congratulations to all the new Wolverines! Please use this thread for topics related to the Early Action + Early Decision decisions that are being released. That could be getting in touch with other admitted students, learning more about starting at U-M, financial aid, etc.

We are not the admissions office, so please contact them for the official word on any of your questions.

Please do not use this thread to post your application stats regardless of if you are admitted, deferred, or denied. Per subreddit rules, chancing or stat posts are not allowed. Comments and posts breaking these rules will be removed.

If you are accepted, congratulations! If you were deferred, make sure you send updated transcripts that provide your grades from the previous semester. You can also submit a continued interest form to let Michigan know you still want to be considered..

Due to the heavy number of Early Action applications Michigan defers a high number of applicants. In recent years a large number of students that were deferred have been offered admission. More details about the application/admission process are also written up in the Wiki.

Housing 2026-27 Housing Megathread

Questions, answers, and information about everything housing can go here. Please let me know if you see anything that needs to be updated or any new information that can be posted/linked to.

Listings:

  • Area Facebook Housing Groups - Facebook group list compiled by u/fluffymoomin - Groups are listed with descriptions as well as safety recommendations. Not all groups are moderated well, be careful regardless of the group, moderators are human. Do not pay money to post in any facebook group. It's a scam. The ones that ask for money are no different, or worse than the free ones. Any reply asking you to message or dm them is likely a scam.

  • UofM offical off-campus housing site - You can now sort by recently updated listings. You can post listings or as a person looking for housing/roomates. They charge for property listings, but offer free sublease listings. Also people simply post in the roommates section that they have a place they are looking to fill as well.

  • Ann Arbor off-campus housing - This was the site that uofm used as their official site until it was replaced with the site above. One of the biggest gripes I had with this version is that commercial properties were updated every day, so sorting by new was tedious to find new listings as a bunch of the same commercial properties would be "updated" each day to be at the top.

  • Zillow (ann arbor) - Zillow

  • Roomies.com - Roomies.com you can search for listings and roommates by location. Even though it's apparently a national site, enough people locally use it that it's worth taking a look at.

  • Apartments.com - Apartments.com

  • ICC Co-ops - Inter-Cooperative Council page for Co-op housing.

  • Craigslist Apartment search - Usually spammed by the same area complexes over and over, which is what made craigslist so hard to use and forced people to facebook. There are still some listings here though, it just takes some scrolling.

  • Ann Arbor Observer Rentlink Housing Search

Resources:

By city ordinance I believe, private renters are supposed to have certificates of occupancy/rental permits from the city. You can search by address. (There will be lots of people who don't have this but it's something to check) *Ann Arbor building rental and inspection services

Social media/community resources:

Past resources:

Remember to exercise caution when looking for housing. Lots of scammers out there. Check their main profiles if on facebook to see if they match the user who reached out to you. See if you can verify them anywhere else that they actually live in the area. Beware of people pushing you to send deposit money without showing you the place. Please refer to the PDF survival guide located at the top of the post. It can save you money and just as importantly time, not having waste time and effort to interact with scammers. Most instances of people telling you to message them as replies to your posts on facebook are scams. Make sure they have listings on the group, not just replies to people looking as comments like that can't be screened. Most legit people will contact you first and have a listing already in the group.

Remember never to give your uofm ID student ID number or a picture of your student ID to a 3rd party site for subleasing.

They can't even verify numbers are valid.

Disclosure could cause limited harm to individuals and/or the university with some risk of civil liability. May be subject to contractual agreements or regulatory compliance, or is individually identifiable, confidential, and/or proprietary.

Fall sublets will be uncommon. Most of the Winter sublets you've seen posted are people who failed to find a Fall-only sublet and are trying to recoup some of the un-used lease remaining. Be especially wary when searching for Fall-only sublets. Scammers count on people being desperate to bypass their warning senses. Some apartment complexes like Woodbury Gardens(2-15 and 21 month), and the complexes owned by Village Green(6 and 9 month) may offer shorter lease terms than 12 month. Be aware the shorter term leases will be more expensive per month. Mckinley Properties don't allow less than 12 month lease but they offer a early termination option which costs 2x monthly rent and requires a 60 day notice. This could be just as good as a shorter lease. I'd confirm it with the leasing office but this should be for all washtenaw county mckinley properties.

The Ann Arbor city bus line can make some affordable locations more practical. Your student ID lets you ride free. A short bus ride can be not too much worse than a medium/long walk. Beware some buses run more commonly than others

If there are any resource additions or corrections let me know.

Class interesting class but bad professor vs uninteresting class but easy

i have an 8:30 intro to graphic design class on north campus with jill greene whose reviews say that they would rather get hit by a car and to avoid at all costs. BUT i am interested in ux design and i think this course would be interesting. OR i could take earth 120 however im not sure if the prof is good since i think she's new and also idk how engaged i'd be in the material but ive heard its easy. the class is at good times and on central IDK WHAT TO DOOO!!!!!!

could i just do both classes and drop one of them during add/drop period without any consequences like a W on my transcript..?

Parking / Transit How does parking work?

I’m an incoming freshman who is dorming and I already have a car. I also have a job lined up in ann arbor buts it’s kinda on the outskirts so i’d like to be able to drive back and forth, plus I currently live like 30-40 minutes away so I would like to keep it to come back home. I’ve heard that passes are only for juniors and seniors but i’m pretty sure that through the school and was wondering if the city had parking or anything like that. any info helps.

Meme My sister told me about munger and I didn’t believe her until I found this review

Whoever designed this place should honestly be held accountable—this building is just wrong. A windowless "room" (which isn’t even a real room, let’s be honest) is more like a prison cell, except you’re allowed to leave. No natural light means no circadian rhythm, which means you’re constantly fighting your own body and mind. It will mess you up. And for what? Over $1,000 a month—for a cell. In Ann Arbor, that kind of money gets you a real place with actual windows, fresh air, and, you know, basic human living conditions. If you’re looking to ruin your mental health, this is the perfect spot.

Academics - Other Topics genetics (bio 305)

Anyone who took BIO 305 in the summer last year or even the year before please help me out. Does it get better? I did everything and my score for the first exam is disappointing. I’m above the average but that’s not what I was aiming for. Plus they say it was supposed to be the easiest exam and the avg was 69 🫩

Academics - Other Topics Quick laundry survey for my ES 414 course project (U-M students & Alum, ~2 min)

Hey all! I'm a U-M student finishing research for my ES 414 course project. It's about how people keep track of their laundry (forgetting a load in the machine, walking down to the laundry room only to find it's still going, dealing with shared dorm/apartment machines, etc.) We're testing a possible product idea, and campus laundry is basically the perfect use case.

It takes about 2 minutes and asks for no personal info.

Would really appreciate your take: https://tally.so/r/KYNGYz

Thanks, Go Blue!

Miscellaneous Why is everyone so angry?

I’ve had to speak with the In-state residency office, financial aid, admissions, etc and EVERYONE is so angry. 😭😭 In the worst mood ever. I’m scared to even call with my questions anymore. I’m a non traditional student so this system is not built for students like me so there are a ton of questions that I have and every single time they are so MEAN lol. No matter how pleasant and annoyingly nice I try to be. I was concerned about my in state application not being approved in time and the person I spoke to today literally told me to just unenroll if I didn’t think I could afford it without the application approval ! 😭 🧍🏻‍♀️
I don’t even know if that was good advice??? Do I just unenroll? The residency office said to defer until winter so I know it will be squared away in time which I found out was not even an option in this circumstance so who knows????
Is it always like this? :(
I’m coming from a community college where everyone was usually pretty nice save for a few bad days that we all have sometimes. Should I unenroll and try again next year? I can’t afford the tuition without the Go blue!

Edit (I’m currently 16 weeks out from my application submission date for in state residency and the office said they don’t know when it will be reviewed)

help settle a friendly and sorta dumb debate among my friends: does a lanyard or badge reel give off more “grad student vibes” (i.e; you see two identical people and one has a lanyard and one has a badge reel, which one are you guessing is a grad student)

Academics - Other Topics EE Sophomore Course Planning

Im a rising sophomore planning to declare EE and am interested in the embedded/chip design paths (looking at EECS427 for MDE).

Now that I am done most of my core classes (math115/116, phy140/240, engr100/101, chem130, some IB/geneds) I am struggling to figure out which course path will best prepare me for internship recruiting.

I have no incoming credits so a little worried about the workload over the next few years. Here is my tentative course plan, id love some thoughts and improvements.

Soph Fall: math215, eecs280, eecs215, tchnclcm300, 4 cr IB

Soph winter: math216, eecs270, eecs216, eecs200, 2 cr IB

Junior fall: eecs301, eecs230, eecs320, ioe202(flex tech)

Junior winter: eecs312, eecs300, ULEE, 4cr IB

Senior fall: eecs427, eecs400, tchnclcm496, 4cr flex tech

Senior winter: ULEE, 3cr flex tech, gen eds

Academics - Other Topics placement exam

I got placed into Spanish 231 but I went through the syllabus and reflected on my own ability to speak Spanish and I feel like I would struggle and fail Spanish 231. I got put into it after taking my placement exam, which I mostly guessed on. I only took up to Spanish 2 in high school. What should I do and who should I talk to be put into a lower level of Spanish?

Academics - Other Topics Opinions on Best Time/Structure of SLC Study Group Sessions?

Hi, I'm a new SLC facilitator this semester, and I was wondering, for anyone who has been in an SLC study group or will be signing up for an SLC study group, if there's a certain day of the week/time that they can most easily, consistently join weekly?

I'm also curious to know if there's been particular things anyone has liked or disliked from SLC study groups, and anything they would like to see in the future from a facilitator? In my experience attending study groups, for example, there were certain structures that I liked more than others.

I would love to know your opinion even if you have not/will not be joining an SLC group! Thank you! ❤️

Miscellaneous anyone need a (free) twin bed?

Thumbnail gallery
9 Upvotes

edit: pending

we have an incredibly basic ("from Wayfair or something") twin bed, with a mattress, that i'd like to get to someone who could use it. We used it for a kid a few years.

The headrail can be attached (bolts are there) or left off.

I have a truck and can deliver it anywhere around campus, as soon as today, (at no cost)

sheets and pillows not included
