Tractor wheel restoration by agrigear.

New GA property is 35ac, mostly woods with probably 5ac cleared. Looking for a tractor to do misc work - bush hog, move cut timber, little ground work, etc. I've learned that ideally I want something larger with a 40hp engine. Looking to spend less than $30k, new or used. I'm sure I'd be better served with a new tractor with a warranty, but I understand I'd get way more for my money used - open to either direction.

I've never owned a tractor, but I do my own maintenance on our zero turns and vehicles so I have decent hands-on mechanical experience so I'm not a complete novice for maintaining a tractor.

Would something like the ad I listed be a "good" deal and setup for my needs? What would you suggest I look for if not?

Brands to stick with? Brands to avoid?

Hello, I need some opinions so any input is appreciated. I'm looking into buying cheap hp - around 200 hp for my small operation, looking at 936/946 Claas Atles and a Massey Ferguson 6499. Which would be the better choice long term? How is the reliability of the Atles vs the Massey? I'm worried about parts availability for the Claas, thinking that would be the biggest issue there, while the Massey should have no issues for parts availability. Give me the good, the bad and the ugly on both tractors.

My family and I recently made our dream come true by moving to a hobby farm, with the goal to 1) expand our chicken flock significantly, 2) raise pigs, and 3) raise dairy cows. As part of all this, a tractor was definitely in order, especially given the 1,000 foot plus gravel driveway that needs to have snow removed(we live in Northern Wisconsin).

Anyways, we decided to go with a new LS MT242HC. A little more power than we probably need for our 3 acre property, but I'd rather have a little extra than not enough. We also didn't get quite enough financing for all the attachments we wanted, so for now we have it stripped to the minimum we need, which is just the loader bucket that comes with the tractor, as well as the snow blower. There is quite a wishlist of more attachments we want, but since there were quite a few major projects to be done on the house after moving in, we have to do some saving up before buying anything else.

Now, to be frank, I am a terrible mechanic. I'm a sparky by trade, and I grew up very much a city kid that just never had the chance/opportunity to learn much at all mechanically. I want to change that, and to learn as much as possible mechanically speaking. I recently have been trying to learn basic small engine stuff, and I see this tractor as a baptism by fire. I'm hoping to be able to do most, if not all of the maintenance on it on my own.

With my blank slate thrown out there, tell me, what do I need to know to maintain, and possibly even upgrade/modify my tractor over the many years to come? What sort of tools do I need to make sure I have on hand? What sort of consumables should I have on hand? What are good resources for learning to be a mechanic? What else do I need to know that I don't know to ask? Tell me everything, no matter how simple! I'm a mechanical idiot that is eager to learn!

Sometimes, while I am working, the transmission suddenly shifts by itself into Neutral (N) or Park (P) without any input from me. Could you please help me identify the cause of this problem and how to fix it?

I need to use a grapple, bucket, forks on the front and an offset ditch/bank flail out back.

What would I need to add, if anything, to an older tractor.... Something in the 45-50hp range like a Ford 4000/5000 series or MF 135.

I'm assuming they generally don't already have the hydraulics for this kind of set up.

I really don't want to pay $30k for a machine if an oldie can get the job done equally as well and probably more reliably.

Hey y'all. I have a trusty B2910 and the seat is on its last legs. I've searched Amazon and there are a lot of replacement zero turn seats with adjustable rails but only one or two that fit this pattern and I question if the rubber stoppers on the back of the seat would touch.

I've considered seat covers too, that's my backup option.

Before I MacGuyver something, I thought I'd check here if anyone knows of a source that I should check out. Thanks y'all!

Firestone no longer manufactures the tire I need. Ag/ Turk 29/12/15 Just purchased the tractor. It has 2 firestones. 1 is roughly 10 yrs old. The other is on its way out. Can’t locate any of this size. Lots of 12.5 Suggestions, without purchasing TWO new one. Help and thanks.

Hello!! I see a GC2400 Massey Ferguson tractor with mower, no loader. It looks nice and clean. It has 1135 hours on it. What's a good price.?? Is $4500 cheap, fair priced, or over priced??

I’ve been battling this Ognibene cylinder off of my Farmall 75A with a L610 loader. The gland has the 2 flats to put a big enough wrench on it. In my case a 24” adjustable wrench that I modified to open up to 3 inches.
I thought it would be an easy job but boy was I for a good surprise.
I’ve rebuild my share of different style cylinders but this one has brought me down to my knees. I went around where the gland meets the barrel with a razor blade to break off the paint in between. I’ve tried peening around the barrel where the gland screws in. I do not see a set screw anywhere. I’ve applied heat(up to 300° as I don’t want to do unnecessary damage) hoping that if it’s got some kind of thread sealant it will loosen up and tap on it as I’m trying to turn the wrench but nothing.
I’ve been working on this after work and by the time I get home the garage is 100 degrees.
I don’t know what else to do
My last resort will be a pipe wrench or weld a nut on the flat so I can hit it with a punch
Any more ideas would be appreciated!
EDIT: I’ve put a 4’ pipe on that wrench it makes it flex

So, my father own a ih 724, and when steering left, the curved part of the steering mechanism pushes the brake pedals upwards, thus making it so we can't brake, is there a way to fix this ?

Someone passed away and this tractor has been sitting for some time obviously. They are unable to deal with it due to their age. I'm going to help list it for them but I need a rough idea on value based on it obvious poor condition. It looks like a farmall. My guess was around $300 but again I'm not an expert. Any help is appreciated. Thank you.

My Kubota L3901 started hunting at idle last summer and felt weak under load. when mornings turned cold in fall it took longer to fire, so I checked glow plugs and bled the lines first. still hunted. dealer hooked up their scanner, rail pressure was low, quote on the high-pressure pump was more than I wanted to spend and lead time wasnt great.

Tag on the pump housing had the number. matched it to the parts book entry for my serial block before I ordered anything. wasnt going to guess on a part that expensive.

Ordered through fridayparts a little over a year ago. 90-day return was why I pulled the trigger going in, wasnt totally sure I'd nailed the spec on the first try. pump's been on since, a little over 400 hours on it now, cold starts normal, idle stable, no smoke I didnt have before.

Swapped the fuel filter at the same time as the pump. prolly should've done that two seasons earlier tbh.

Kept PTO work light the first month after install. not sure if that was necessary but I wasn't taking chances.

Anyone else run an aftermarket injection pump past 500 hours?

My acreage has all three within 30min and Kioti is literally up the road. Haven’t really looked into LS or NH. I’m looking at the Kioti NS series, and the MF 2M. I want open station as I’m in the woods with it and I don’t want the headache of breaking glass. Going to be a lot of grapple work, some bush hog, and stump grinding so I’m looking at the lower hp options in the class. Thoughts? Thanks in advance. I’m not going for JD or Kubota dealers are far

Do you think that I can get to the back to replace the hood struts with the loader on? I feel like I need to find a little person and lay them on top of the engine.

Gotta do it because someone is gonna bump the pvc pipe and lose a head!
