Internet - Fibre Ontario: Question about fibre service and static IPv6 prefixes

Just called in to ask, but the support agent wasn't too familiar with the question. I'm in Kitchener at a house with a pre-existing Bell fibre connection and am considering migrating to TekSavvy largely for IPv6 reasons (Bell doesn't provide it).

Does TekSavvy offer static IPv6 prefixes? And if so how much do they cost? Old posts that I've looked at mention them as a possibility, but I'd like some details.

I'd be using my own equipment (vyos router, xgsgpon SFP+ module if possible).

Internet - Fibre Title: Questions about ONT-only setup + existing Bell Fiber

Hi Teksavvy mods/team,

I have two questions before I sign up for service:

Question 1: I plan to use my own router and firewall instead of Teksavvy's provided equipment. Can you send just the ONT device, or is the modem/router combo mandatory?

Question 2: I recently used Bell Fiber at my address . When I order Teksavvy service, will a technician need to come out to activate it, or is there a self-install option available since the fiber is already there?

Any guidance would be really helpful. Thanks!

Internet - Cable Will the CODA5610Q route traffic between an internal VLAN it's not on and WAN?

Hey all,

I've set up a switch on my network and configured a couple of VLANs on it, the idea being to keep my sensitive stuff protected from the regular home network. That way, I don't worry about guests being on the same network with some HTTP-only web app or my NAS. So the Hitron is at 192.168.1.1, and I've added a switch managing 192.168.10.0/24.

I think the problem I'm running into now is that the Hitron is dropping traffic to or from hosts on the 192.168.10.0/24 VLAN. Those hosts can ping the modem at 192.168.1.1, but can't ping (for example) 1.1.1.1, on the internet. I've configured a static route in the Hitron for my test host on 192.168.10.0/24, so the router knows how to get back to that host.

The Hitron seems not to offer the ability to configure routes to /24 address blocks; I can only add a /32 single-host entry in the "Static Routes" page. Since it doesn't seem to have proper routing support via the UI, I thought maybe it's just dropping traffic that isn't for any host not on its subnet.

Has anyone seen this? Should this modem work with multiple VLANs behind it?

Internet - Cable does IPTV get blocked on TekSavvy?

While i like TekSavvy the recent changes to their sports packs make the TV portion not worth it (thanks guys but I don’t want 14 versions of CTV and Global, I just want Sportsnet and TSN!) I’ve started looking into third party IPTV providers

It’s a bit hard to set up though and every time I get near the finish line the apps see to fail so I’m wondering if TekSavvy just blocks them.

Anybody have any insights as to how to make IPTV happen on a smart TV? Drop me hints here!

Genuinely curious if this post is going to get take. Down ;)

Internet - Cable Contract question for plans

Hi, I'm interested in trying out Teksavvy, but have a question about the early cancellation fees. All the plans offer a 12 month discount but I can't seem to find the amount of the early termination fees mentioned in the general terms of service. What would this amount be if I found it wasn't working for me?

This is the site part I'm looking on for the plans: https://www.teksavvy.com/services/internet/

Internet - Cable Massive Outage affecting Ontario and Quebec

A massive Outage seems to be affected zones deserved by Cogeco.

As of right now, the outage started 40 minutes ago at exactly 1:55pm. The outage map is not updated, technical support have no idea what is happening.

As this develop, please share any updates or corrections.

Internet - Fibre wifi signal not there anymore on my router

u/Teksavvy, this happened 2 weeks back that i lost connection. i was not home then. I checked today. There is no wifi signal on my router as a result nothing is connected now.

I understand there is a outage, but this seems to be a hardware issue.

Internet - Cable Best deal for single person

Hey everyone!

I'm moving into a single room downtown in Ottawa and need to get internet set up for just myself.

I actually saw an ad for TekSavvy internet for $21 when I Googled it, but I couldn't find that exact deal on their website. The best I could find there was around $27.

So, I was wondering if anyone knows about any upcoming deals or discounts? I've seen online that sometimes companies offer special rates or even free months for new customers.

Any advice on how to find these kinds of offers would be super helpful! Thanks in advance!

Internet - Fibre Bypassing Adtran modem

Post image
8 Upvotes

This may be a dumb question, But I have this set up currently to bypass the Adtran fiber modem. It’s working no problem (well, I get max 650 upload, full 1.5 download) but is it possible to bypass this set up and install the fiber SFP directly into the 10g SFP port on my UniFi Dream Machine SE? With also switching all the info from the current Ethernet port I’m using to the SFP port of course.
I am a total moron so maybe I’m misunderstanding things, and if this is the only way to do it then so be it, it’s working totally fine as is. I would just like to simplify the set up if it’s at all possible.

Internet - Fibre Teksavvy is at risk of losing my business!

Woke up this morning to no internet. No link on the fiber/ethernet converter so maybe some tech at the dslam pulled the line card or something. Called TS at 6:30 Saturday morning, tech mildly helpful, she can't reach my Adtran, so opens ticket with Bell tells me someone will call me to follow up. 9:30, Bell calls - wait on hold for 30 minutes, help desk person says she can't do anything with out a GAS ticket ##. Call TS, wait on hold for 18 mins get a somewhat better tech who says they will call Bell and help me out, see if it's a problem at DSLAM. Wait on hold for an hour (!??!!) and get cut off! Call TS back, message says hold time 40 minutes!!! (but really that means 1.5 hours)! Not happy. If I don't hear from TS in the next 30 minutes, we're done.

Referral Codes 38 confirmed referrals just disappeared, please fix this!!

Post image
0 Upvotes

Hi, I just switched from DSL to Cable and for some reason, despite many reassurances by TekSavvy staff that the referrals were account-wide and not package-based, suddenly my 38 referrals are no longer on my account nor does the -25$ line item appear on my bill!! Please fix this!

Attached is a screenshot taken June 23rd in case exactly this situation happened, before the credit from the 29th (yesterday, at time of writing) was added.

Edit: This is what it looks like now, June 30th. (Moved this link from a separate message to the main body of this post.)

Edit 2: Resolved.

Internet - Fibre Intermittent WAN failure (Ottawa, ON)

I switched from TekSavvy coax to fibre seven weeks ago. Since then speed has been good, but I've experienced significant WAN connection problems. Every three to five days the WAN connection fails, either completely or partially. For example, today I could not authenticate with Apple and Steam, and the Steam client wouldn't fully load on any device. During the partial failure, I checked my external IP address and whatismyipaddress indicated I didn't have an IPv4 address. Doing a power cycle on the Hitron ARIA3629 router always resolves the issues, but I get another failure in a few days.

I've had four support calls with TekSavvy; they have had Bell check the connection and it passes each time. They asked me to call them when I'm having an issue and they would run the check again, but since this is intermittent and I work from home, I have had to power cycle the Hitron box to get back to work.

I can't dedicate hours to troubleshooting the connection. After seven weeks I'm at the point of just changing providers and using my own router. My guess is the Hitron router is bad, but support won't address this. Is anyone else having this issue?

Internet - Fibre Can teksavvy run over Maple Fibre in Cambridge

In Cambridge Maple Fibre is installing lines, they are owned by aecom. I was wondering if Teksavvy would be able to use their lines? I saw teksavvy was advertising that they were going to, I wasn't sure if they were also a part owner of maple so they had exclusive use of it.

Internet - Cable My modem/router got delivered for a self-install and didn't come with a coaxial cable? Support told me they don't usually include them, but the pamphlet says otherwise...

Hi! This is my first time getting my own internet. My new place qualified for a self-installation, but the router they sent (Hitron CODA-4680) did not come with a coaxial cable even though the pamphlet inside said the box should include a power cable, ethernet cable, and coaxial cable. I called support, and they told me they don't send them because "most houses come with them"?? My house definitely did not. If I knew for a fact that this was standard procedure, I would just go get my own cable, but the pamphlet said there should have been one in the box and I really don't want to spend another $15 on getting one when it should have been sent in the first place.

Just wanted to check with others to see if your routers came with the coax cable or if you had to supply your own!

Internet - Cable Constant disconnects.

[Vancouver] Has anyone been facing constant disconnects from the Internet as of recently. I've had Teksavy for a few months, it had been perfect until a few days ago. I've been getting disconnected between work again and again.

I was advised to separate between 2.4g and 5g just in case I need to move between them, however my laptop is directly connected to my modem via Ethernet and I keep getting disconnected. The customer service has said the connection between them and the router had been stable for a solid month without any issues.

Any advise, or anyone else has had this issue. I've been using a Hitron modem.
