General Discussion [Megathread] Homebrew/DIY Accessories for TE Gear! Share your designs here!

We all love to see custom PO cases, stands, custom software and the like. I've got them on every PO I own!

However, we've been a bit inundated with oversharing, commercial posts without permission, vibe-coded sample managers and the like. We'd like to find a way to accommodate everyone without flooding the feed and removing everyone who doesn't reach out to us first.

As such, we've opted to create a megathread for anyone to post their creations freely.

The rules:

  • No second-hand selling or WTS/WTB.
  • you do not need to ask permission to post here
  • All DIY content goes here, not on its own post.
  • No sample packs allowed.
  • Do not post more than once once per three months.
  • Posting links to sites blocked by default on reddit's spam filters (gumroad, etc.) will not be approved manually. If your post is removed without notice, you aught to host it elsewhere.
  • Report any repeated sales / spam / low-effort content as per usual

r/teenageengineering is not responsible for your purchases. Use your own judgement. Report scams to mod team if found.

Links to sales in comments of forum posts outside of this megathread will still be removed. You may link to comments in this megathread without issue.

Thank you for your understanding!

Help / Tech Support / Quality Issue No confirmation

I ordered an OB 4 with the 30% discount Tuesday morning, got an order number, but never got a confirmation e-mail. My payment is ‘reserved’ in my bank app but has been for more than 48 hours. Should I worry or do some of you have had the same situation?

General Discussion Field recording with the TP-7

Pulled the trigger during the sale and my tp-7 is on its way. Anyone here using it in combination with the OP-XY for sampling in field recordings? Are you using the internal mic and what is your process for the OP-XY given the limited sample time. Thanks for your feedback!

Help / Tech Support / Quality Issue Ep40 No input signal playing

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

So for some reason you can see that the audio level meter is signaling some audio on the input every time my key is hit but there's no actual noise / audio coming through the speakers. Meanwhile I can hit pads on the EP and there is audio. It doesn't matter what I select on the microfreak no thing on the input is playing. You can see in the video I show that FX is off

Help / Tech Support / Quality Issue Am I crazy, or is the filter UI flipped?

Highlighting the left side of the filter activates the high-pass filter, highlighting the right activates the low-pass filter.

But it would make more sense for it to be flipped, right?

General Discussion How are you positioning TX-6 on your studio desk?

I have a TX-6 that I'm using for my home studio desk. It's a fantastic thing with great features, options and connectivity. Its tiny size is really appreciated on my small desk.

I am having an issue with placement / cables. Keeping it at the back of my desk keeps all the cables out of the way, but its small controls and screen are much better suited to being in the middle of the action closer to me.

The master out wants to run to my desktop monitors, which are away from me toward the back of the desk. That cable has to come out towards me and then immediately turn to run back away - not ideal.

I feel like I can't quite get it right. How have you positioned this unit tidily and ergonomically into your setup?

Thanks for any insight.

In case it matters, I'm on a medium sized standing desk with monitors at the back. I have anywhere from 2-6 inputs on the TX-6 in use at a time and the usb to my computer for audio interface. I have the main master out going to my monitors and I use headphones in the cue jack too.

General Discussion Ting and M-1 worth it as additional pieces during the sale?

Don’t need either but have casually looked into them in the last. Any thoughts or opinions on either good/bad would be helpful.

It would still be $100 to get so it’s not exactly that I want to blow money.

General Discussion Took your advice

recently I posted in here asking if an OP1f made sense for a non keys player. I took the plunge and I’m loving it. half the fun for me is playing with sounds and creating beats. I’m actually pretty good at live drumming. I used to have and love an Orba but this is like that in the right ways and much better in all regards (ok except haptics).

I’m also a gear head so I immediately bought the Unit Portables case. but in my backpack I actually think this works best - a decksaver with a Velcro strap! it fits in horizontally and fits in perfectly plus I’m happy knowing the knobs are safe.

I’ll enjoy reading and learning in this subreddit, thanks

Just received from B&H, unit just says "EP-136 FT" no buttons work, factory reset isn't working either. Talked to BH and returning no issues with them. Bummed but might try again, has anyone else had issues with their unit?

UPDATE: Connected to TE's Software updater and totally worked no issues. Immediately love this thing, really fun to blend tracks and try new effects. Ty to folks here who gave me suggestions! Leaving this up incase someone else has the same issue.

Help / Tech Support / Quality Issue CM-15 Plugged into the tp-7 Which do I turn on First

This is what I was given online. My only concern is damaging a new CM-15 because of doing something stupid.

In practice, it doesn't matter much, but the smoothest workflow is:
Turn on the CM-15 first.
Then turn on the TP-7.
Verify the TP-7 is receiving signal before you start recording.
The reason is that the CM-15 has its own powered preamp, so having it already powered and outputting a stable signal when the TP-7 starts recording avoids any chance of missing the beginning of a take. Teenage Engineering describes the CM-15 as having a built-in preamp designed to feed devices like the TP-7 via its analog output.
If you accidentally do it the other way around (TP-7 first, then CM-15), it generally won't hurt anything—you may just need a second for the TP-7's meters to reflect the incoming signal.
If you're connecting the CM-15 to the TP-7 via the 3.5 mm output, I can also suggest the best CM-15 gain setting (High, Mid, or Low) and TP-7 input level depending on whether you're recording speech, vocals, or instruments.

General Discussion If you do videos, need guides / video ideas

I love Teenage Engineering video content, but now after keeping up with them they all seem to follow the same flow of following the buzz of a new release and news. They are all starting to become same-y as oppose to like... exploring the devices, open-sourcing their knowledge about it / knowledge transfer to new user interested in the devices or helping current users hitting a while learning the device and quite honestly cognitively overwhelmed.

Most videos feel very much "why you need to buy it" and I get that game. It's just after you get the device, there really isn't much content for exploring.

Some ideas, just throwing whatever out there to see what sticks and stuff I'm tackling with.

Connectivity and multi-device workflows (the big one, could be a series)

The multi channel management stuff confuses me. I don't get the options and opportunities of the different devices, how to creatively construct a workflow, even how or what this whole syncing thing is (side note: syncing, a whole video of it's own discussing the logic of it and how, via different device). Say you have all or a few of these. KO-II, OP-XY, OP-1F, a Pocket Operator, an iPad, plus AUM, or you want a laptop in there.

Honestly I think this is a playlist series and not one video (I apologize if I repeat myself in it).

  • Start with what you're trying to achieve then build the chain from there. Like I want to do this, and I have these certain devices, what workflow can we do. Are there different types of workflows, for different scenarios
  • Cables. What types of 3.5mm you need, recommended brands, which to avoid
  • Which device can be the hub. Upsides, downsides, how to set it up and why set it up that way. Can i use a USB-C hub, can I use one of the TE devices as a hub, side kick as hub, the options available.
  • The syncing thing. What it even is, when you need it, what goes wrong
  • Where AUM fits. And iPad app workflows generally, iPhone too
  • The question I keep asking. Can I buy a USB-C hub, plug all the devices into it, run that to an iPad and use AUM? Or is that just not possible. I can't find a straight answer anywhere

Multiple Sidekicks vs one TX-6

Probably the most relevant version of this right now because of the side kick release. Why have one or multiple Sidekicks as opposed to a TX-6, or vice versa. Cost is a factor, sure. Not a versus thing, more which path is better given the scenario you're in or trying to get into.

Haven't had time to watch this yet but I have a feeling it goes up that alley a bit for the Sidekick side.

Some genius sample hot swap technique

Switching out samples, I don't like it the typical way. Maybe because it turns into a weird file management game, maybe I'm lazy. I just get overwhelmed and don't bother.

  • A way that doesn't involve connecting to my laptop and going to their web page to swap a sample on KO II or Riddim
  • Something where I keep a hard drive of samples and swap from it somehow
  • Or sampling back in from an iPhone instead of dragging a file. Upsides, downsides, quality issues

Actually using the things

  • Overall music theory from the POV of the device. What is a good beat. Whatever being "in a chord" means
  • The engine stuff in the OP-1 Field. What's the logic between each engine, what is it actually doing. Same for OP-XY
  • What the FX are doing, what the punch-ins are doing
  • Each supertone in the Riddim, and what we can do to mess with them for something unique
  • Undo. Still don't know how or when I can undo on the Riddim or the other devices. I can't tell you how many times I've had a sample locked in tonally only to accidentally blank it, which I assume is from assigning the pad to a different sound or something
  • Whatever this microtonic software thing is, just want to see someone messing with it. https://teenage.engineering/products/po-32

Community

  • A video exploring and reviewing all the user created TE focused apps. Community engagement stuff, feedback

I've been following these fellas and just tagging them in for their attention. Manny's journey through the devices has been fun sit on the toilet material with his youtube shorts.

Not sure if this person has a reddit. Would be sweet if she did some videos via teenage engineering devices.

General Discussion What are the odds of the EP-133 getting the EP-40's extra features?

I can see that the EP-40 is functionally superior to the EP-133 as things stand today.

Going by TE's history, is there a chance the EP-133 KO II will get the same feature updates?

I know the EP-1320 seems like it's abandoned (for now at least), but the EP-133 got the resampling feature in the software update.

I am on the fence about buying and much prefer the looks and the interface of the EP-133 over the EP-40. I love the theming and styling etc, but I usually prefer their usual industrial style much more.

Thanks!

Performance Acoustic cover all on the OP1F and CM1

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

This was made using the OP1 Field and a CM1 to capture a live performance in one take, then layering over some drums and synths.

I could have done two takes, but think the results are reasonable if mic placement is tweaked to balance voice and guitar.

I’ve literally got a single mic stand with a iPad holder for OP-1F and the CM1 screwed in to the top. Such a quick and compact recording setup for a busy dad!

Help / Tech Support / Quality Issue Speaker not working on PO33 — have tried everything

I found some info on Reddit about this, and so far I have tried changing the batteries more than once and cleaning the output, but for some reason the speaker is still not working. By the way, the volume is all the way up!

Does anyone know how to check if this is a speaker malfunction?

General Discussion What have you made with your OP-1 Field and why do you love it?

I finally got myself an OP-1 field during the 30% off sale. It is supposed to arrive in a few days so I’m excited to test it out and get creating.

I’m curious to hear from the community, what have you made with yours and what do you love most about the device?

Please share what about the OP-1 Field makes it a worthwhile music tool for you?

Also, share any tracks or albums you’re proud of that were created using the field, I would love to hear them!
