Starbound has been a very important part of my life, and it just wouldn't be right to not at least make something to commemorate the anniversary of a game that's been influencial to all of us here.
I wanted to share a project I've been working on for some time.
I wanted to host an OpenStarbound server and I tried using PenGUIn because it is the server manager that most people use. Unfortunately I couldn't get it working properly with OpenStarbound.
At the same time I was looking for a project to improve my Python skills so I decided to build my own OpenStarbound server manager from scratch.
The result is OpenStarbound Server Manager, an open-source desktop application built with Python and PySide6.
So far, it includes:
Start, stop, and restart the server
Live console output
Connected player list
CPU and RAM monitoring
Simple built-in server configuration editor
Optional ngrok integration for users who prefer ngrok over port forwarding
This is my first public release, so i know there are still things that can be improved but it's reached a point where I felt comfortable sharing it.
This was never meant to become a "real" application. I just wanted something that worked with OpenStarbound and figured it would be a good excuse to learn more Python along the way.
If you want to try it you can download it from my github repository.
Hello! Im a relatively new player (been playing since last year 2025). And I am very confused by the community.
From what I have seen, chucklefish published or made the game. The beta had a lot of amazing things planned that were slowly stripped away and the story was abandoned for a worse one.
Then the past 7 or so years have been nothing. Only mods being the new content.
So my question is simple, what makes you all stay and keep playing?
im looking specifically for furry or furry esc mods. my partner and i want to play as our oc/sonas, a (ring tailed) lemur and (spotted) linsang
now i doubt theres exactly mods for those specific species, but imagination is a wonderful thing. I think for a linsang a cat might cover it? depends i guess, but most spots or designs will be covered by armor or clothes.
any suggestions or recommendations welcome! we do play with other mods too!
To preface, I play on a single monitor and I like windows game bar to see what I'm listening to on Spotify, what song I skipped to, etc.
Recently wanted to get back into Starbound after some odd years and after playing for a little bit, I've noticed that windows game bar just doesn't work right with the 64-bit version? I can use the shortcut (windows+g) to open it and I can tell it opens by my cursor switching back to normal but I can't see it at all when playing the game in fullscreen or borderless fullscreen. I've tried looking around a bit but cannot figure out a solution and I've never had this issue on another game
These pieces of concept art were drawn by my friend LauraRayneLove and please keep in mind that most things are subject to change (For example, the overall artstyle is still a work in progress) so the final product may not look like this.
Wasn't sure how the X'i should look, with how limited the pixel art is -- after playing around I ended up happy with the result of my feathery radioactive girl.
Built to be a thumbnail for today's stream. VOD can be found here if for whatever reason you want to witness some stranger be a dumbass. https://www.youtube.com/live/r82FDN5NaUY
Is there eventually a way with the mining that makes it like terraria with the smart cursor, where you point your mouse in a direction and it targets the closest blocks, or is there atleast a mod that does this? Because i hate have to be precise like that for when i mine
Hey guys, I want to get back into playing Starbound, having last played it in the 2010's. I added a bunch of standalone mods: Elithian Races, Shellguard, Starforge, Ancient Cosmos, Maple32, Krakoth, Knightfall, and Ironsides, as well as some dungeon mods: Galactic Dungeons, Dungeoneer Dungeons, Less Dead Moons, and Lostbound. I also added improved swim physics, enhanced tech, more planet info, some other small UI mods, and whichever patches I could find in between the standalone mods.
Is this a safe and fun lineup of mods, or am I seriously bloating the game and risking bugs? In the case that I am, which mods should I remove?
Does anyone knows an exhaustive list of mods FU uses?
I only dislike the research progression but I'm taking a wild guess that Fu Devs made their own fork of certain mods and update them, BYOS I something that I really like but in order to use the original mod you have to go below the outpost start building it, there is no default per race ship without Fu
It has been a while. I am alive, I am fine, I just distanced myself from the Game for a while because of personal reasons and concerns of mine. I am fine, I am well, and I am thus returning after a bit of time and while I still have time on my break to post funky window patterns! Since apparently everyone loves it when I make them!!!!!!
As for this mega project: I'll have more to say on it once the actual 1/5 of it that these windows are from are actually done. To give a bit of a hint: I am trying to beat a record within the community with this build because why not lol. I AM ALSO EXPERIMENTING WITH THIS NEW WINDOW TECH!! (4th and 5th images specifically I am referencing here; I am adding sloped glass because it can fuse and mesh well with window lattice, and will actually go "under" some parts of it if done right), so expect to see more of it from me in the future!!
This is all for now, I will probably upload the first 1/5 of this new mega project when its done!!
I know it's a long shot to get a response on this since I have like 700 mods but has anyone ever experienced the background in space (be it a ship or a planet) try to move left when selecting a new location in space but stopping and being stuck on screen? I've no idea what could be causing this.
