News Anthony Edwards' baby mama, Ayesha Howard, took him to court to increase his $5,000 monthly child support. Now the judge has ordered him to pay $3,222 per month.

Happened to me. Baby mamma took me to court and I ended up paying less.

u/devilsbard 2h ago
My brother in law was the same. Judge found out that while the mother claimed they were 75%/25% caring for the kids the reality was they were effectively 50/50 because of how often she was not picking up the kids. So he was granted 50/50 custody formally and didn’t have to pay anymore.

17
u/Binnie_B 1h ago
I wish. I have legal 50/50 custody and still pay hundreds every single week.
If I take my kid on a 2 week vacation and he is only with me for the entire time... I pay her each week for that.
And I still have to split all expenses if she sends me a bill for anything.

u/Last_Weeks_Socks 35m ago
I lived with my father 100% of the time from 14-18. He still paid her child support because he knew otherwise she'd try to keep custody. Never once said anything about it to me because he didn't want me to know my mom measured our love in dollars; I knew.
The classest of class acts that man. Just letting you know, your kids see you.

u/CitanUzuk1 29m ago
My coworker stayed married until his last kid turned 18 just because he knew he’d have to deal with the same shit. They were separated for the last 10 years and his sons didn’t want anything to do with her, he raised them both. So happy he’s finally free and can go on with living his life.

u/TheKosherGenocide 20m ago
Measured our love in dollars is so accurate. God damn. It's like you know my Mother as well without even ever meeting her. I hate how fucking accurate it is, and how we've enabled some women to go completely unhinged and then have the audacity to act like victims.
1
u/Last_Weeks_Socks 15m ago
It's so crazy. I'm sorry your mom wasn't the greatest either. Hopefully you also were fortunate enough to have one good parent.
That shit doesn't end either. No I have a son of my own and my mom has the audacity to try to tell my wife how to be a good mother which makes her sad. I'm like "baby, let's put this sociopath's perspective in context. My father paid her good money to leave me tf alone".
I'm not saying there aren't plenty of deadbeat dads, but the court has to stop leaning toward custody goes to mom by default. I know this is often regional as well, but it's gotta stop.

Why is it the women are the only ones that can opt out of parenthood? Don’t seem fair to me
-1
u/CapnTBC 19m ago
Because forcing someone to go through pregnancy could have massive consequences on them health wise however once a baby is born it’s better for society for both parents to take care responsibility of it so that the child doesn’t grow up in a financially struggling home and so it doesn’t end up falling to the state to foot the bill.
-1
u/Brilliant-Spite-850 16m ago
Right but why can’t the man opt out of PARENTHOOD?
Why does the woman get the only choice in a decision that will result in the man being responsible for 18 years of financial support?
4
u/tornadorexx 10m ago
You have the choice to not have sex with that woman.
→ More replies (1)1
u/Brilliant-Spite-850 2m ago
Didn’t the woman also have that choice? You sound like a bible thumper.
1
u/CapnTBC 3m ago
Because if the man ‘opts out’ then you as the taxpayer is footing the bill for his decision. It’s in the best interest of the child to have as much support as possible so having that extra income allows the child to be better taken care of and to avoid the traps of growing up in poverty.
If a woman ‘opts out’ then there’s no baby so there’s no need for the state to pay out or worry about a child growing up in poor conditions.
1
u/Brilliant-Spite-850 0m ago
Since when do we care about the child’s interest when it comes to pregnancy, birth, and parenthood? We only care about what’s best for the child unless it negatively affects the woman?
I’m just getting really confused about whose best interest is considered and when.

5
u/grandmawaffles 1h ago
I think a child should live the lifestyle a parent can afford. A parent shouldn’t be living in mansions and living lavishly while the kid is in a row home.
3
u/BusyBit6542 47m ago
The kid probably lives in the mansion part time. He's just supposed to pay what the kid needs when they aren't with him.
0
u/GreenTheOlive 50m ago
That’s now how this works. The reality is likely that Ant is doing a lot for the kid already, but it’s not going directly to the mom. If he was a complete deadbeat the judge would have probably made him pay a shit ton more monthly

u/MAGAHATESTHEUSA 1h ago

u/chief_beef_the_third 1h ago
Not a chance, lol. Unless you're in Section 8 housing. My mortgage (incl tax & insurance) is $4200 and I live in a middle class house.
But money aside, I think a child needs parents who love them more than anything else. As a father, I want fathers to be treated with respect, but that's not going to happen so long as fathers treat parenting as "cutting a check" and that's it.

He paid a total of $110,000 in year and a half, and was currently paying $5k per month. She tried to take him to court and increase it. She didn’t even bother showing up to the court proceedings, and it was reduced to $3,222 per month.
She also tried moving it from Georgia to California so she could get more money.7
u/TillClear2582 1h ago
Does the kid have a mortgage to pay?
0
u/TopInvestigator5518 1h ago
rent/mortgage can change a lot depending on how many bedrooms.
raising a kid is more than just feeding it.....
if you need to pay for a 3 bedroom apartment then yeah its reasonable that part of your child support goes to housing
4
u/Sarcasm_As_A_Service 1h ago
You’re talking about it like she was homeless before she had this kid. 3,000 a month is more than enough to pay for extra living space for a child, extra food, extra clothes etc. you’re correct, it’s not enough to pay for this woman’s mortgage and car payments and phone payments and salon appointments, but that isn’t what it’s supposed to be for.
2
3
u/Sarcasm_As_A_Service 1h ago
You have a wildly ignorant view of how much money most people have if you think 3,000 a month isn’t enough. There are people with an annual salary less than that and that doesn’t even include any money she makes. Assuming she isn’t just wanting to live entirely off her child support of course.

yes they do
the manosphere podcasters have men talking about how they don't want to date gold diggers meanwhile they work at home depot
they see this as a big win, also 805$ is doable but its not that much a week for a kid. between food, diapers, childcare, rent, and misc needs its not that much
3
u/Spooder_guy_web 39m ago
Child support isn’t supposed to cover everything, that’s the point it’s just to supplement what the primary owner can provide. Acting like 805 a week is nothing is also absolutely out of touch with reality. That’s already more than what many people make in a week themselves. The child doesn’t have to live like an nba superstar. Thousands of children survive on much less a week. Besides it’s a guarantee that of that 805 basically none of that is going to her child

I have 3 under 7 and we spend with day care for two included about $1,000 a week. So I can’t imagine one is much more expensive than that in anyway. Occasionally it will be more with clothes etc but as they age out of daycare that number drops significantly. It was $1,126 a week for 3 in day care at one point.

No, but also a child should not be used as a lottery ticket.
Edit: I just looked up her name. Apparently Ant paid the lump sum all at once ($1,080,000) and she's asking for more because he could earn more money later. So this is literally a lottery ticket for her. Lump sum of over $1 million which she could put into a modest interest accruing account to help pay for her child. The money he gave her could be used to get even more money.

I would definitely consider 5k per month for 18 years to be a nice lottery winnings. That's $1 million at the end.
What child costs 5k per month? Many adults don't even have that to live on. And she wanted more than that because she thinks it's not enough.

1

u/RoccStrongo 1h ago
Offer a breakdown on how a child costs more than $5000 per month since that's what this woman was seeking.
Does child support stop if the woman is in a relationship? There is no requirement of being single is there? Just who is the biological parent?
1
u/cosmoskid1919 1h ago
Depending on where you live you either calculate it by Income Shares (what would it take to raise this child if the family was intact) or just % income
The state calculates the support needed # Based on how much the Mom and Dad both make - the parent paying support pays based on their income.
The factors are usually:
- food
- Clothing
- Travel
- education or childcare
I assume she wanted an increase to cover Childcare (easily can increase from 1-3k a month based on the age of the child) and maybe miscalculated that she would pay for % of it? It's not malicious or really that complex

If you're a pro athlete, it's better to just get a vasectomy.
If you decide that you want to have kids, your sperm can be aspirated in a lab and your partner can get pregnant with IVF.

Because young people shouldn't get unnecessary surgical procedures. It's stupid, a waste of resources, and an unnecessary risk. These things don't happen under universal care, only in for profit systems. Plus, they don't even work 100% of the time.
1
u/ImAMinecraftVeteran 21m ago

Glad I could help inform you of that then. When you’re a public figure who makes 9 figures on their contracts, part of the known equation with that is that you have less privacy in your personal life with things like this. I’d say the same trade off happens when you live in a small town like I used to. And people are entitled to have opinions on your behavior with repeatedly knocking women up and suggesting they just get abortions, even paying them to do so. And he’s within his rights to not care what I or anyone else thinks. Hope this helps.
3
u/El_7_Weenie 51m ago
Having children with different partners doesn't automatically make someone a bad father, bad person, or an idiot. Judging someone's entire character on family tree geometry instead of how he actually treats his kids is a wild reach.

Too many people look as child support as a subsidy for living ie. roof over the head, groceries, vehicle, etc. While these things are important, it's asinine that those same people just add it to their income rather than spending it directly on the child.
I grew up dirt poor, my dad paid my mom 1.5k/month. I can tell you right now my mother lived well above her means utilizing child support for her 4 baby daddies while we got a limit of $200 each a year for school clothes, ate the same breakfast, lunch, and dinner weekly that revolved around 70/30 ground beef. All that while she had a good 40k/year job when 40k actually went far and was still collecting about 4k/month on child support.
The friend of the court rigs the system against men because of the possibility of the man being a deadbeat. Never a the idea of a mom being a deadbeat. This stigma becomes egregious with famous people because they have higher standards of living. There's plenty of exceptions like Elon and Nick Cannon who absolutely are dead beats, but like if the kid sees his dad regularly and mom just wants to live a life of luxury because she "deserves it" fuck that noise.

Why is it the internet just loves to talk about peoples finances.
Like the implications here are that dude had a gold digger after him and he owned her.
It's like listening to someone who is obsessed with shows like Jersey shore. The way they talk about life, humanity, and what not is gross.
0
u/joshtothe 50m ago
It always gets me that these sort of stories are like catnip to the most unemployed segments of the internet.
Like i just don’t get the bile.
Sure, being a gold digger is a relatively slimy way to achieve a life of luxury, and the expectation that the lifestyle you were afforded while you were with an extremely wealthy entertainer/athlete should continue in perpetuity after you’ve split with them is ridiculous as well, but - who cares?
This isn’t a problem that will ever affect me, or the people who get so wound up over it. Women aren’t cynically trying to baby trap guys with $60K/yr. sales jobs or whatever.
I can only assume it stems from the whole “temporarily embarrassed millionaire” self-image, paired with some hatred for fractional archetypes of women that the internet creates for engagement.

Divorce has nothing to do with it. It’s about child care.
As for “divorce laws being out of whack” idk, you enter in an agreement to be legally one. This allows for people to make choices they couldn’t separately. If someone quits their job to focus on domestic matters they wouldn’t have done that single.
3
u/imJGott 1h ago
Ant was never married to her. She got pregnant in Georgia but moved to California to try and get more money from ant. Judge wasn’t buying any of her bs to try and get more money out of ant as a free meal ticket.
The only person who lost in this situation is the child due to both parents being completely irresponsible.

u/RobinVillas 2h ago
Should an adequate level of support be a reflection of what the father makes? What if a dad makes 20k a year, should his standard be lowered to $100 a month?
Babies shouldn’t be lottery tickets and this woman is not owed a lifestyle - just the money required to feed, clothe, and shelter that child.
3
u/TopInvestigator5518 1h ago
yes, that it pretty much how child support works. lots of women get pennies if they receive payments at all
i don't know where you live but 5 k a month is hardly the lottery when you have mouths to feed and rent to pay
1
u/Sweaty-Ruin5381 1h ago
5k a month is more than most people in the US earn working full time. She's going to be fine.
1
u/TopInvestigator5518 1h ago
It’s down to 3 k a month, unless you live in section 8 housing that’s not a lot of money lmao
1
u/Sweaty-Ruin5381 1h ago
It's plenty if she has damn job. She could make $18/hr, which is what McDonald's pays, and gross $72k a year with the child support. Median single income in the US is between $44k and $52k. She's going to be fine.
0
u/Key_Fee158 1h ago edited 1h ago
Well him making more money doesn’t increase the child’s expenses. The child support is to support the child and isn’t like a pension for the mom to boost her income off of. The court should just look at how much it costs to support the child, whether they need increases for private school etc.
Alimony from divorce js meant to maintain the former spouse, and child support is not alimony
0
u/slickvik9 1h ago
3000 isn’t a lot decent daycares around me run 2000 a month
1
u/Key_Fee158 1h ago
You don’t know if she uses a daycare? The court would look at her actual or expected expenses, not hypothetical expenses. You can’t just get more money because you want more money. It has to go to supporting the child.
1
u/slickvik9 1h ago
Well a mortgage plus property tax plus property insurance costs well over $3000 in most of the country.
1
u/Key_Fee158 59m ago
You’re confusing alimony with child support. Those aren’t child-related expenses per se. The child support would pay for the child’s portion of living expenses. If she’s living with her parents, she can’t request $3,000 for a mortgage she doesn’t have. You can’t just ask for money to buy a 5 bedroom house and say it’s for the child.
With alimony, in many states, you have to pay comprable to what the spouse was accustomed to, so what he pays her would be based on his income.

Yes the daddy has successfully put all his effort and money into ensuring that his kid has the legal bare minimum child support to ensure that child is living a lifestyle that is not comparable to his own or what he can afford, without denying himself (daddy) anything, because this is what is important to him. Children love and respect their fathers when they treat their mothers like gold diggers. I'm sure it doesn't affect their perceptions of their fathers or their self-esteem in the slightest

Yeah, and im sure the mother going back and trying to get more out of him is 100% for the child, and not at all because she wants to fund a lifestyle of her own and the child is just a means to that.
Shes getting over 6 figures a year, more than the average US median income, just for the child. If you cant make it work with that, then either your spending it on things you shouldnt or you’re absolutely horrid with money and just buying everything you can for the child, using daddy’s money by the way.
It actually blows my mind that you truely think she wants whats best for her child. Neither one of these two should have had a kid. If anyone in this situation is innocent its the kid that has to grow up knowing neither parent really wanted them.

1: it takes two to tango ya know, or are we just…completely absolving the woman here? Why does he need to take care of another grown ass adult that hes not even married to?
2: he’s taking care of his obligations to his kid. He doesnt have any to his baby momma, the child isnt a lottery ticket, and the momma isnt owed luxury because she baby trapped a guy with money. I’m sorry you feel differently here, but maybe next time dont make your future prospects trying to babytrap nba players.
