“The mother of my two sons is 11 years older than me. We’ve been together since I was 20. I think she stayed with me despite how childish I was because she saw something in me. I didn’t marry her for 25 years because I didn’t want to lose 50% of my assets. When I finally proposed… she said no.”

His partner being more like him than him is probably the most Zlatan thing about him.

It really does feel appropriate, a typical woman would be out of place around him.  Behind every great man is a great woman, so they say.

He’s clearly joking about the 50% thing in this clip. They have two kids together, he can’t walk away from that clean anyway…

Potentially paying child support for your kids (if she took him to court) is WAYYYY cleaner for men than going the marriage route and navigating splitting of asset. If you pick the lesser of two evils, its paying your child support.

Helena Seger and Zlatan have been together since ever, he also probably wouldn't speak so endearing about her if that wasn't the case.

The mom of a friend of mine was living with a guy for like 20 years before they finally decided to get married to help them get a loan for a home; consolidated their assets. They were divorced within 5 years of getting married. My friend said everything was fine until they got married, then everything somehow changed and got weird. Sometimes marriage makes people weird after they have been together forever and there are still ways to get compensation after a split without being married.

it's because, despite what people want to admit, your expectations of a spouse are different (higher) than your expectations of a live-in partner.

living together before you get married, while it might help you work through potential issues, is also not a perfect simulation of the commitment that marriage entails.

i've known several couples together for 5+ years, finally get married, and divorce within 1 year.

I bet piers loves this format (interviews) of his show because it doesn’t involve him getting flame broiled by a guest which happens to him more than any show host I can think of at least off the top of my mind

Fucking crazy that tradiion needs to be axxed, Nothing was stopping her from proposiing except her ego. No other mutual partnership is started with one side begging the other with jewelry.

It's not a coincidence that 60% don't last

That statistic includes arranged marriages which greatly inflates it. Arranged Marriages don't start with one person begging another so you can't include that in this argument.

I didn't say the tradition of marriage should be axxed. Just this expectation of one side going into debt for a mutually agreed upon future is not how you should be beginning a mutual partnersship
