How do you know theyāre elite? Maybe theyāre just regular.
57
u/majorgriffin 15h ago
Could have been ok or maybe even subpar.
18
u/moth_specialist 15h ago
Tbh Iād prefer subpar.Ā

Given the low danger nature of the event, they are probably standard snipers

u/Superj569 12h ago
I don't know about you.. but I like a C+ sniper. Means they're good enough to get the job done, but also can be reckless.
14
u/salsanacho 15h ago
The "mediocre at best" snipers.

u/teetaps 15h ago
Kinda like āwhen you get a gift card for a lot of money but itās a store you only sometimes useā of snipers⦠or maybe the store brand

They are. They are not even in ready position and scanning.
Reactive "snipers". More of a detterent than effective.

u/No_Bad_4872yy 13h ago
Ask them if they saved Tom Hanks near Somalia although i dont know if extremely, extremely well trained is the same as elite. Have to ask Gortney.
Vice-Admiral William Gortney said "extremely, extremely well-trained" Navy SEAL snipers were able to make the shot from the stern of the nearby USS Bainbridge at night in rolling waters.

u/YourCummyBear 15h ago
Because the president was there.
Most major sporting events have local swat team snipers.
This had Trump in front of the largest television viewing audience ever. I bet there was a mixture of local swat and elite operators.

They were snipermaxxing.
Also, why? They will always be too late, especially when not locked and loaded behind their guns.

āNice try Mr. Bond, but I have extremely average snipers surrounding youā

Surely you they all have to have their first mission. When do they retire, the guy 10 days out canāt be as focused.

Definitely elite. Drones and AI took their jobs in the frontlines so this all the work they can get.

This is common at large sporting events. Especially ones with lots of celebrities/dignitaries etc
17
u/ProtestantMormon 15h ago
Honestly its a miracle there hasnt been a major terror attack at a sporting event in the US. Security at the world cup game i went to was a complete joke
18
u/Every_Television_980 15h ago
Stadium security is mostly just to scare regular people away from bringing in weapons so when drunk people argue they donāt have guns and knives in them. I worked one in college and the detectors we used didnāt even work, it was just a show for people to think they wont get in with a weapon.
We could have 0 security and terror attacks probably wouldnt change much at all.
3
u/Ok_Listen_8211 15h ago
Which stadium? I think some have faster security checks b/c unfortunately they just check for firearms so itās more expedited w/o the magnet wand thing
2
2
u/Good_Posture 12h ago
I think it's the security you don't see that is doing the real work.
Anybody that needed to be watched or was on a list was probably well accounted for.
3
u/MoneyManx10 15h ago
Well the current FBI is a bumbling goon squad but normally the security measures at big events are really tight. They canāt afford the news of something bad happening in front of the world (outside of the usual stuff).
1
u/BrosefDudeson 13h ago
Or maybe there just aint that many people out there looking to commit a terrorism
1
1
1
u/Sad_Bolt 8h ago
Stadium security is a doubled sided sword, what you see at the security checks and walking patrols is just to scare the average people into not trying anything. The other side of stadium security, the side that actually protects people, is the surveillance teams like the snipers here, drone operators and the thousands the cameras watching everything. That is how they keep things from happening before they happen.
1
u/Apprehensive_Use3641 7h ago
Probably was a bit tighter at a match that had at least three heads of state at it.
1
u/SpaceYetu531 6h ago
Not really. The media convinced everyone terrorist attacks were more likely than they ever actually were in order for governments to strip us of our liberties.

u/SamOnTheeLam 15h ago
Absolutely. These honestly feel like bot posts, or people who never get out of their house. They are at most large sporting events, and if the president is there, doubly so. FFS they were at the Boy Scout National Jamboree that Bush made a speech at back in like 2005.

u/uncutpizza 15h ago
After the Munich Olympics, all International sports have lots of security. Plus the President was there so gonna have even more

Would you prefer bad snipers?

There are a lot of people who probably shouldnāt answer that given the context of who was present for the post game celebration

I wonder if all the spectators realized they were in crosshairs at some point during the game.

u/DaughterAmerRev 15h ago
How sad is it that the snipers had as many shots on goal as the Argentinians
1
1
u/PHARA0Hbender 14h ago
Not like this happens at pretty much every major sporting event around the world⦠oh wait.
1
u/BullBear7 14h ago
Ngl if I was one of those snipers, I'd just watch the game. Even terrorists take a day off to watch the WC

āEliteā just like his team of pool technicians that fixed the reflecting pool. lol perfect for him

How do you think the players fall all the time without pysichal contact from other players on the pitch?

u/Mcbundies 12h ago
Good I was at the finish line of Boston marathon bombing coulda used some snipers then never enough in large group settings wit all these looney toons running around

u/Logical-Permission65 12h ago
Elite! They seem to be chilling and watching the game rather than behind those rifles. Perhaps thatās the definition of āeliteā
1
u/Popetus_Maximus 12h ago
They were aiming at the referees, making sure they did not get any yellow cards to Argentina.
The ones given happened when the snipers were taking a break to pee
1
1
u/Polyporum 12h ago
That would explain all the players rolling around in pain even though nobody touched them
1
u/Fynaticx 12h ago
I mean I get itās funny because itās typical of the US and its government. However itās better to have the security than to have a major problem and wish you had more security so it didnāt happen.

Elite? We all saw the quality of the Secret Service Snipers during the attempted "assassination" on Trump.

u/Radiant_Club5672 12h ago
Why are you shocked āš³ ā?
Do you expect an event that has 90k ppl there, with trump, infantino, world-class celebrities and politicians of countries, to have no security measures?
Come on.
1
u/HistoricalAnnual9981 11h ago
just to name a few: POTUS, the president of mexico, the prime minister of Canada, the king of Spain were there⦠i bet thereās maaany more security measures weāre not even aware of

u/Dicethrower 11h ago
It's a widely known feature in the US. It's not even because Trump was there, they have those there many times during big sporting events. You never know in the US if someone will start yet another mass shooting. Statistically it happens more than once a day, so might as well happen in a stadium. You'll want to keep it in the low double digits casualties instead of triple/quadruple. That's smart thinking of them. Anything but do something about that ridiculous gun culture.

Also funny how they thought it was necessary to have a banned constantly reminding everyone that it was THE FINAL.

You didnāt notice Trump was behind bulletproof glass ? At this second you know there are other security measures around

u/HonestNeighborhood67 8h ago
Gonna guess this is standard protocol when a heās of state is at any large event. You had theee heads of state in a giant arena, with one of them being a very easy target at one point.

Is this the "sniper" people refer to as a joke when they see people flop and say a sniper took them out?

How do you know they were elite? Snipers? Yes. Elite? Insufficient data.
