coachmanager but they said they didn’t want to end up on Jomboy and then was yelling at the ump with his hand over his mouth lol30

Ferguson came in and Walked the first batter, gave up a Grand slam and then gave up another Single before this.
I think his team should be yelling at him instead.
34
u/Unfair-Record3313 1d ago
INTENTIONALLY walked the first batter to load them up and get to Raleigh. Mistake.
11
→ More replies (1)15
u/mcstatics 1d ago
The mistake was the 75mph slurve down the middle of the plate on his first pitch to him. Raleigh has been dog shit this year without whatever supplement he was taking last year but a high schooler could have taken that yard.

You can always spot a man baby, because he takes his frustration out on other people.
5
u/Accomplished-Bear689 23h ago
I’d say that depends on whether or not those frustrations are directly someone else’s fault, wouldn’t you? Weak men blame others for their own mistakes, but the pitcher here got his professional life fucked with by the incompetent ump. He’s right to be mad

Also, realistically, that's a tough bounce in a tough spot and the 2B was in the perfect spot to get any ump frozen in place.

Reds fan here hanging my head in shame. Not only are we the Damn Doormat of the NL, we have to stoop even lower with ridiculous shit like this.
Ump made a mistake. No need to get that personal when a simple "C'mon, Man!" would've worked just fine.
If I were Francona or Krall, Ferguson would be issuing a public apology to Bill Miller or he can haul his ass somewhere else. The Reds are supposed to be better than this.

Prick. His being fat has nothing to do with the bad positioning. It all happened fast. But to be up there cursing this dude out, with a cross on your neck, down 7-0 is rich.
211
u/jdubyahyp 1d ago
The cross is so he can be an asshole, ask for forgiveness, and carry on as if nothing happened.
52
u/Randomizedname1234 1d ago
If a non denominational church taught me anything growing up in the South it’s that you can do anything as long as you just say “oops sorry🤭” to Jesus afterwards.
It doesn’t work that way but it’s wild to think people do.
→ More replies (20)12
u/iLLiCiT_XL 1d ago
See, that’s the opposite of what I learned from non-denominational church (although, I’m in Jersey). You can say “oops sorry” to Jesus, but the words don’t matter if it isn’t in your heart.
1 Samuel 16:7: “But the Lord said to Samuel, “Do not look on his appearance or on the height of his stature, because I have rejected him. For the Lord sees not as man sees: man looks on the outward appearance, but the Lord looks on the heart.”
I don’t blame people for how they view Christians. Tbh, I blame Christians.

The cross is so that he can apologize to an invisible being instead of the person he actually insulted...because to apologize to another man would instantly turn him into a woman

from our POV he tried dodging right, looks like he was assuming the SS would get that ball and not 2B which is a fair thing to assume
10

2B running across 2nd base to field a ball is wild.
Hard to tell where SS was but that's almost never a 2B play.

8
u/Vox-Machi-Buddies 1d ago
Yeah, imagine publicly cussing out and insulting your coworker like that in any other job.
I get that the players are some of the best at what they do. But at the end of the day, their job is to play a game for peoples' entertainment. The ump is there to support the same goal. That's not how you treat people you're working with.
4
u/A_Sarcastic_Whoa 1d ago
Nor does it have anything to do with the fact Ferguson walked a batter and gave up a grand slam and a single before this at bat either.
5
u/sierra-soul 1d ago
yeah welcome to baseball and American "Christianity"

The pitcher has a point. If that umpire is going to be in the field they should have some spring in their step to get out of the way in case of plays like this. It should be an expected part of the job.
→ More replies (6)3
u/gwy2ct 1d ago
In addition, I don't think the umpire had nothing to do with the grand slam the pitcher gave up before this...
→ More replies (1)3
u/PhilShabano 23h ago
To be fair, it wasn't even bad positioning. An ump to the left of second would never plan on the second baseman going for that ball.
3
u/iLLiCiT_XL 22h ago
Yeah I think so too, I’ve watched it enough times that I feel the same way about the play but seeing that 2B crossed over, I feel even more sure the pitcher overreacted. (The score doesn’t help either)

I get being upset but come on, Ferguson. Be a human. Ump messed up but they almost never mess up in that particular way.
Also don't ever berate someone about their weight. You think dude doesn't know he's overweight? You think he doesn't already feel bad about getting in the way on the play? He just humiliated the man in front of thousands of people. I hope he never gets a decent strike zone again. Borderline calls all go against him from now on. What a punk.

Just like referees in football, they are a part of the field and have to be worked around. Nothing he could do there, just an unfortunate series of events. No right to attack him on that level. He’s a prick, and that may have an effect on his next contract as well.

16

Not American and don’t follow baseball but will the player be disciplined abusing the official? Yes the official messed up and impeded the game but surely can’t say that to them and get away with it?
→ More replies (9)18
u/friendfromjersey 1d ago
The ump could have ejected him right there if he wanted to but that would have been a bad look too after his obstruction. If the pitcher had any class at all he would apologize to the ump after the inning or after the game.
9
u/runenight201 1d ago
Should have been ejected right there on the spot.
Anything else and you’re condoning verbal abuse of referees.
Doesn’t matter whether the ref messed up or not.
You can get upset, but you can’t start verbally berating someone and bullying them.
