Seeing that most of the posts here are for Spain. I wanted to see who's crazy as me to try catching the eclipse in Iceland?

Hey everyone!
I’m planning my very first total eclipse trip for August 12, 2026, and I’m pretty hyped so I wanted to get your feedback about my plan. As I am the most invested in my small group I also became the reluctant leader of the group, so I want to make sure I don't mess it up!

My plan is to head to A Coruña, Spain. Based on research (website: treseclipses.es), I was thinking the area around the “Tower of Hercules” might be an good spot. It seems elevated, and the eclipse should happen over the ocean so there should be no obstructions. Does anyone familiar with the area agree, or are there better nearby locations/recommendations?

Quick safety check: I’ve read online that during the short window of totality, it’s safe to take off eclipse glasses and view the Sun with the naked eye. Can anyone confirm if this is safe and common practice?

Does anyone have a hint where it might be possible to get a spot for a tent at a campsite somewhere in the totality zone that is somewhat reachable by public transport?

Anybody else will be here for the eclipse? Any advice/suggestions? Won’t have a car, never been to Spain/the city so not sure how logistics will go. Any help is appreciated! Thanks :)

Anyone planning to be in Guadalajara? Me and my friends bought train tickets from Madrid but I realized it’s to and from the YEBES station. Anyone know how the logistics work for getting to the main city from Guadalajara-Yebes? Google Maps suggests taxi is the only way but don’t wanna depend on taxis on eclipse day

I have a practically brand new 58mm Freewell Magnetic solar filter (20 stops, ND100000) that won’t fit on my current lens. I used it once for the solar eclipse in 2024 and I no longer need it. I’d love to pass it on to someone who can use it. I’ll bring it with me and if you still need one, get at me. I’ll be staying in Santa Ponsa.

Hey, we will be travelling to Spain to watch the total solar eclipse this year. We've booked flights to Bilbao, but later on I've read online (reddit, among others) that Burgos might be a better spot since totality will be ~1 minute isntead of ~30 seconds etc, but on the other hand other people mentioned elevation difference, but on the other hand^2 some people said that Bilbao has higher % chance of clouds.

I would be more thank thankful for recommendations or votes for/against Bilbao or Burgos - or any other place that would come to your mind! Thank you :)

Arguably the best spots to watch the eclipse. Unless your accommodation is in the area, access to some of the best viewing spots on the island will not be possible.

Hey guys. Im using a few tools to research official viewing locations and events.

As totality ends, the moon's shadow is no longer simply moving across the landscape, but reaching the end of its journey across Earth and beginning to skip off the planet entirely.

Depending on atmospheric conditions, it may be possible to see the departing shadow cast onto distant haze layers or clouds.

I am flying out of KEF and westbound to ORD August 12 at 1635. Which side of the plane should I sit on to be sure I see the eclipse?

I have a group of friends from different countries who are planning to visit Egypt for the solar eclipse 2027. We are looking for recommendations for tour operators or travel agencies that are planning eclipse tours or are likely to organize them. They are not very concerned about the flights but what they are really interested in is the tour itself like transportation, accommodations, etc.

For those who have been looking for a hotel along the path of totality, I'll be canceling my room reservation for August 12th at the Señorio de Olmillos just west of Burgos. If you're interested in booking it as soon as I cancel on my Expedia, let me know and we can coordinate a time. Title says it all. I'm not local to the area so curious if there's an ideal hill / clear view where it'd be good to watch the eclipse. I'm aware of the low angle in the sky.

Hi, i'm trying to better understand how to forecast clouds for Spain. It seems Spain uses their own forecast models. HORMONIE-AROME and AEMET get mentioned. ECMWF also gets recommended but I get the feeling the first two are going to be more accurate.

My first Total Solar Eclipse was the April 8th 2024 in Arkansas USA.

Next to it being my first eye witness Eclipse, I also planned to capture the whole experience in video.

After that 'underestimated BIG project (the editing of it all took almost a year..😅), i will be returning for my 2nd eclipse, (traveling to Spain with a larger group this time)..

On the 12th of August.. i will try to capture the entire Eclipse event again.. Hopefully 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻 in an even better, more special way than the first one.

Can anyone tell me which size Alpine Astronomical Baader AstroSolar White-Light Solar Filter will fit the 131 mm outer diameter of the lens hood on the Nikon Z 180–600mm lens?

I know some people use a smaller filter and report no vignetting because the angle of view at 500-600mm is so narrow. However, I'd prefer to use the largest film diameter possible to maximize image quality and avoid any potential issues.

If you've used this combination, I'd appreciate knowing which filter size you purchased and how well it fits.

I’m a solar astrophysicist, and spent the week prior to the 2024 eclipse doing public outreach around the Texas area. I collected a lot of free eclipse glasses in the process, as well a bunch from other institutions in Boulder, CO.

I think they look great collated like this! Does anyone else have any cool-design eclipse glasses or eclipse mementos?

As the August 12 total solar eclipse heats up, I have a story. In 2024 I bought a set of solar eclipse glasses and found that the Sun looked way too bright. So I tried them on inside, and I could see light bulbs, ceiling fans, etc. I learned that some manufacturers were likely selling defective units, so I did a deep dive to come up with three ways to check your solar eclipse glasses. They are as follows:

1) Real eclipse glasses should have printed text that says they are compliant with ISO 12312-2.
2) Inside your home, you shouldn't be able to see any light fixtures aside from the small filament.
3) Your manufacturer should be listed on the AAS dot org website under the list of approved manufacturers. My sub-optimal set was not on the approved list.

Looking for recommendations for my situation. I will be staying in Vigo in August and it would mean everything to get to see the eclipse. I want to be in the path of totality with lowest probability of clouds. My understanding is that near the coast, there’s a high probability of clouds near the horizon, therefore obstructing the view of the eclipse. I have a car but would like to be able to drive back to Vigo the same night (so 2-3 hr drive max would be ideal). Thanks!

Hello 2026 Eclipse Watchers In Spain/España, We are planning on watching the eclipse from the town of Artomaña, Spain. I've used the Shademap website to confirm that we will not be in the shadow for the eclipse. I am trying to find a plan B site to go to should the mountains be cloudy on the day of the eclipse. I am looking at the Burgos area. If you are familiar with this area, I would appreciate any tips or suggestions on alternative locations. Thanks in advance!
