The sub is reopened!

I have reopened the sub for public posts, and will be working over the next few weeks to revamp the sub and make sure it is a welcoming environment for pipe smokers to share their pipes and smoke. If you have any suggestions or issues, please send me a ModMail so I can address them!

Hoping this Peterson deluxe system (shape 20FB) smokes as well as it looks. This is my first sytem pipe and my first sitter. I dont usually like the way that sitters look but this one appealed to me. Let me know if you have a pipe like this one and what you think of it. Happy smokes!

Question from new pipe smoker

Post image

I've been exploring smoking a pipe for the last month or so and I'm REALLY enjoying it. I'm wondering how often others smoke? Daily?

I feel like I'm at the cusp of it becoming an everyday thing and wondering if that's normal?

Thanks!

I bought it because it was so pretty at the used market... I want to know information about this pipe. I would be so grateful if you could answer!

Is there a way to stop accelerated aging when smoking pipe tobacco?

Post image

I am 20 and I want to get into pipe smoking, it fits the gentleman esthetic I want to convey. Other than that I don’t know why I want to do it? I keep looking online to see if there are any health benefits or pros to pipe smoking and I can find none other than you have to take your time to prepare your pipe. I don’t mind having to floss and brush my teeth after every bowl or having the chance to get cancer.
The only thing that worries me is the accelerated aging. Is there any way to combat or completely stop it while smoking pipe tobacco?
Hopefully I won’t get addicted to it and do it often, only plan on doing it maybe once a week.
Can any of you tell me from experience why you decided to smoke tobacco or how to stop the aging process?

How long before a pipe is seasoned?

I have several new corn cob and budget briar pipes that I am starting. My original briars pictured are more budget friendly pipes mostly smoked aromatics and some Virginia or English based.

Newer pipe smoker, with a goal to dedicate the new higher end briars to specific blends as I am building a collection.

Advice greatly appreciated.

My wife asked my son what a good gift would be and the boy didn’t let me down. 320ks dolomiti. My first not straight pipe, first not budget pipe and I never thought there would be such a wide gap in experience.

Weird Little Stanwell I Found

I found this pipe at an antique mall, and it's been the oddball in my collection ever since. I don't think it's registered under any of Stanwell's catalogues, though it might be in there somewhere. The number 85 refers to a tall, bent egg shape (I don't think it's this, but I'm a novice so correct me if I'm wrong) or a bent billiard. I've only found one other one like this online, and it was black, not brown.

I got it restored by a professional and have been enjoying it since. Though the bowl is a bit thin for my tastes and it gets pretty hot. Seems like it could burn through easily. Maybe that's why there's so little of them online lol

To anyone who knows a bit more about this pipe, I'd love to learn.

First Nice Pipe - Savinelli Bing’s Favorite Rusticated

Decided to treat myself after using my MM Country Gentleman and a Rossi for a long time. Wanted to really get my cadence down and figure out what tobaccos I like before getting something more expense, and glad I did. First smoke was Early Morning Pipe and it smoked like a dream. Love that it’s essentially a mini churchwarden. Nice to hold while I read which is when I smoke my pipe usually. Picked it up at my local B&M store in Annapolis.

Pipe stem snapped off inside the shank. How do you proceed?

Post image

Went to clean it after smoking it last night. With no resistence, the bowl just fell off the stem.

This isn't a very expensive pipe, I think it cost me like sixty bucks. But it was the first pipe I bought when I got into this (not counting a corn cob I had years ago), so it is a bit sentimental. That, and I think it looks, smokes, and feels great. I dont want to throw it away if I can help it. I'll replace it, but I have no idea who even made it.

Pretty sure I can extract the busted stem, but are the stems more-or-less standardized in size? Can I get a new vulcanite stem? If so, where do you buy your replacements from?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Made by Kirsten Pipe Co. I have casually looked at Krisren pipes over the years, but never pulled the trigger, might now, to go with my corn holders

How many of ya'll used pipes to "quit smoking" cigarettes?

Post image

I was a cigarette smoker for years and it is a hill I'd die on that switching to old school pipes (and the vast world of premium pipe tobacco and old-school tobacco recipes I'm talking about) was absolutely a vast improvement when it comes to the health dangers of smoking vs cigarettes.

Cigarette tobacco is just so dead leaf nasty compared to what we have access to. Opening a tin of Orlick -- Dealing with Old School how it's been done for centuries. So nice.

Anyone ever try smoking cigarette tobacco through a pipe? Nasty right?

I wanted to specifically buy a pipe to restore it. I found this Chacom Prestige for €15 and got it. Spent a lot of time sanding today only to drop it in the last few seconds when I was about to finish up. A small piece came off and I glued it back on (you can see the crack through the “M” on the last photo).

I bought a blank of bog oak from Vermont freehand and I’m gonna try and make a poker style pipe. I own a couple I’ve “restored” but I’ve never really made one. The holes are drilled which makes it easier but I was wondering if anyone here has tips? Mainly on sealants or stains. I knew of bees wax, any tips help though. I attached my inspiration pictures

Gift from my boss. Smokes great and looks gorgeous. I think it's honestly my favorite in my collection.
