I have never not gotten into a class that I wanted to be in after I started using this trick in my second year.

After the self-enrollment period is over, you can still easily enroll into courses by sending a simple email to the advisor. People will still be dropping out of courses during that time. Unless the class is a GPA booster with 30 seats reserved for faculty students only, you are safe to assume a spot will open up. I like to check every 3-5 minutes to see if anyone's dropped the course. If you actually want to be in a class enough to complain about it on Reddit, you should put in some effort and check if anyone's dropped out in the week following self-enrollment closure.

Hey everyone, I’m a 2nd-year Criminology student at SFU looking for an easy elective for Fall 2026.

I’m preferably looking for something online, low workload, and relatively easy to get an A in. I want something manageable that won’t take up too much time alongside my other courses.

Right now, I’m considering:
EDUC 100W with Cary Campbell
FREN 101 with Anas Atakora
ARCH 131 with Dennis Sandgathe
PSYC 102 with Alyssa Croft

Has anyone taken any of these courses/profs recently? How was the workload, grading, and overall difficulty? Which one would you recommend for someone looking for an easy elective/GPA booster?
I’m also open to recommendations for other easy electives, preferably online, that are offered in Fall 2026.

A friend told me that the first year summer semester being shitty is a canon event, and for me at least, it's true. But is anyone else feeling super burnt out this semester for some reason? Hey, I’m an indigenous transfer applicant for spring ‘27 and I’m applying for psych arts - I was in bsc neuroscience before but I get more transfer credits this way - my gpa is kinda shit like 2.61, and I was wondering if anyone knows a good second program to apply to? My gpa is shit due to pretty major life changes, I have an F, ILL, and W on my transcript but I’m currently replacing the W, won’t be done until late august though. Also doing a course that ends this week and I think I’ll get an A+ which gets me to like 2.67. I was told admitting gpa for psych apps is like 2.7 ish currently, is that different if I do the indigenous pathway?

Michael Monagan is the prof for 152 next semester, and 155 isn't offered for the fall so I have been considering it. Also his ratemyprof is insanely high which is why im intrigued to take it with him

I did decent in 154, got a B+ and I was cramming the hell out of every exam at that time but I am bit better at managing my time now.

My major is healthsci so I either calc works for me, but overall what do you guys think?

I know the application of the concepts in each course are different as 155 is based around life sciences like 154, but other than that are there any real differences between the 152 and 155, and would I be screwing myself over by going from 154 > 152 since there could have been concepts covered in 152 that weren't mentioned in 154?

Hi everyone, is anybody here doing the PLP Program? I am planning to apply next year and was wondering how it’s like working as an EA and at the same time doing school? Is it manageable? What’s the workload like?

I appreciate any insight about it. I’ve just been really stressful thinking about my options. I have all my prerequisites for UBC BEd (so I’m going to apply there) and missing 2 if I also wanna apply to PDP. I work as an EA so I’m thinking of just doing PLP instead of PDP. I’m just really concern about my well-being and mental health when I’m in the program.

hey guys, i’m on my last semester at sfu and i did my bachelors in arts with a double minor in business and humanities. my academic advisor recommended i do that since im quite a good writer but i wanted to major in business. it seemed like the perfect compromise at the time but now that im so close to graduating im worried i wasted my degree on smt that will most likely not get me the career i want. im considering doing my cpa designation because i feel like otherwise i have nothing i can do. does anyone know if im overreacting or would it be possible to find a career with this degree? or is furthering my education the best option? (pls be nice, im very sensitive)

I'm curious since there's a ton of doom posting in any subreddit even slightly related to higher education/employment of any kind.

I do however think it is extremely important to be aware of the market regarding higher education and if the outcomes meet the high expectations that everyone (should) have especially for schools with strong name recognition like SFU and UBC.

I have him for MACM 316 next semester and I see pretty much every single one of his reviews on ratemyprof for that class are 1.0. This scared me, but then I saw that those are from 2019 and his recent reviews from 2024 and onward (not for macm 316) are all actually pretty positive. Has he just gotten better at teaching or do I still need to worry?

Hi everyone! My name is Cazzy and I'm a Communication major but have a big love of The Movies. I was shocked to find SFU does not have a Film Club, despite having an entire department/major. I wanted to start one in January but was told you can only do so during the fall semester.

It's still early and applications don't open until September, but I'd love to start one up. I'm not thinking anything too in-depth about making our own movies or discussing cinema theory. I'm thinking more "every week we show a movie, open to all, and talk about it after." Maybe have some popcorn. I know other clubs have shown movies, and I think it could be a lot of fun to make it a regular thing. We could have theme weeks and vote on what to show next. It could be fan favourites like Interstellar and Barbie, it could be older classics like Jurassic Park and The Shining, or we could get real in-depth with flicks by Bergman and Kurosawa.

You need 20 members to be considered a full club, so I'm looking for interest. I'd also need one fellow executive, and would love a Film Major (but all are welcome!) Even just interest in watching a movie sometimes without being a member is great.

I don't expect this club to be too complex or involve a lot of duties, but it's great to get involved and can look good on a resume or application. I think the magic of cinema can really bring people together. We could maybe even organize guest speakers or trips to the cinema, depending on funding and interest. What do we think? See you at the movies!

Hey so I’m looking at the GPA option for SFU med school. I did email my question to admissions but haven’t heard back so hopefully someone else has an idea.

Website states:
“The Life Sciences and Humanities or Social Sciences pre-requisite courses must be included as part of the degree used to construct the GPA and must be included in the 60 unit adjusted GPA calculation, regardless of when the courses were completed.”

So I have a nursing degree and also humanities/ social sciences courses but I took them before gaining admission to nursing. I was able to satisfy my nursing degree requirements with those but does this mean I can’t use them for SFU? They are on the same transcript but are dated from before I started my 4 year degree.

Both professors for this class seem pretty bad, and I was just wondering if it’d be better to take it with Ilia Bykov or Hong Chow based on anyone’s personal experience.
