With Whatsapp now embracing alphanumeric "user names" and freeing adding new contacts from having to remember phone numbers, I think the writing is on the wall: people remember user names, not numbers.
My identity is thus my user name..I would like to be able to log-in to signal regardless of what phone number I have.
My personal experience: I own two Android smartphones. Both are dual-Sim..thus I have four mobile numbers active at any given time.
Signal however associates a user name with a single phone number. Why?
Why can't I associate a single Signal user name with all four mobile phone numbers ??
Why force me to create a signal account for each number (great to artificially boost the number of users for statistical /market share / PR purposes I am sure, but believe me, I am a single user, just one person behind the two smartphones and four mobile numbers.
Currently, Signal settings say (under account->Change phone number):
"Use this to change your current phone number to a new phone number. This can't be undone".
This screen should be "add additional phone numbers to this account"
Or "add/remove phone numbers associated with this account".
