Hi all!!

I’m looking for some advice/ideas on how to make these bottoms 2-3 inches bigger around the waist. I thrifted the top and it was so cute I had to find the bottoms and the only ones I could find anywhere were a size small and I was hopeful they would fit but unfortunately they do not.

I’d like to try making them fit but I need some ideas. Ideally I’d like to keep the O rings. I’ve thought of seam ripping the inside around the O rings and adding fabric there. I’ve also thought of adding another couple rings to the hips.

Any ideas or advice is greatly appreciated!

• I don't have my seeing machine yet, and I am trying to see what to buy, have any good tutorials on general sewing? Also do the needles need to be specific for my machine?

I just got my dress I’ll be wearing for my courthouse wedding ( actual wedding will be later on). what is some advice for preventing the sleeves from falling and exposing myself😆. I’ve altered and have sewn clothing before but haven’t had to work with dresses that have a low back and low v neck.

I also want to add something to the train of the skirt to hold when not standing to prevent the dress from getting dirty on the bottom! I would really appreciate advice on this!!

I'm helping my friend make a cosplay, and we're both not very skilled, but we're making a kimono from scratch and would appreciate any advice! What fabrics should we use? And what would be recommended for making things stay upright? I was thinking of using something like garden wire, but worried it might get damaged or rust when washed.

One thing we've been discussing is how to attach the sleeves to the undershirt like shown in the images, would we need to put the finer details last or would it be smarter to just have both sleeves done and hand sew them together?

We're a bit clueless, so even if I haven't asked but you feel something is important to know, please tell me, even if you think it's simple. Thank you ! : ^ )

I’ve successfully sewn other linocut patches on with a zigzag stitch but this time the stitches keep skipping like in the photo. do I need to adjust the tension? did I ruin my machine?

also I’d appreciate any tips on how to best start/stop a zigzag stitch. I read online with some people saying never to backstitch and others saying that it’s fine. thank you in advance!!

I’ve tried a few times now, and the fly guard topstitching on these pants keeps coming out like this. I’ve pressed the shit out of it, and I’m using my standard tension setting that has been fine for the rest of the pants. I’m stitching on the wrong side.

At this point, I’m wondering if I did something permanent to the fabric here and if I should just nix the topstitching in this area and secure the fly guard in a different way. Thoughts on what might be going on?

Can anyone phrase this in a simpler way? I’ve done patterns by this seller before and the text was often confusing, but the other ones had real pictures that helped me a little more. I’ve never done elastic or made pants but I’m so close to being done!

Hi all, when I was a kid I was on the bigger side compared to most girls. My shoulders and hip bones were wide and I didn’t grow into them until high school. The worst thing was going to stores and trying on clothes only to find that they never fit or if they did were uncomfortable making me feel even worse about my body. I ended up wearing boys button up shirts and excessively baggy pants (the only ones that would fit my hips).
Fast forward to now, my daughter has a similar build. Clothes have definitely come a long way but I still struggle to find a good fit for the same reasons. She LOVES fashion and cute outfits and it breaks my heart we can never find the right size! Stiff clothing and denim for example have NO flex so even if we find something she tends to stop wearing it because it is difficult clothing.

So I’ve challenged myself to make her fashionable AND comfortable clothes she will want to wear often.

Now I ask you all, what are your best tips, hacks, and advice for making her wardrobe let her hit her fashionista passion and be comfortable at the same time?

I’ve sketched out some fashion clothes I’ve been seeing around the sales ads, let me know if you have any other ideas!

Can anyone tell me what’s happening here? Not sure what is causing this problem. It started acting up after a light cleaning, I hear knocking/tapping while stitching sounds like the needle is hitting something but I’ve checked closely and everything looks fine. I double checked to make sure everything was in the right place and as far as I can tell nothing is out of order. Singer 4432.

I've added the strap to the bag and it seems to be handling items pretty well so Ig I should stitch it all now?

Going to be using straight stitches but still kinda worried that it won't be a functional bag but after this test.. It should be fine?

The reason why I'm worried is bc the fabrics that I'm using are not the typical fabrics used for bags (like sweatpant material and jeggings) but after this test...it seems to be okay?

Wanted to see if it was even an option to try to remake this swim suit in a larger size. It looks to be mostly made of elastic strips sewn together with a zig zag stitch, but the problem is, I’m not sure what kind of elastic it is. It’s a swim suit, so I thought maybe be it was aquatic elastic, but I haven’t seen it in any colors. It’s also kind of has a “softer” finish than most elastics.

Is this a special kind of elastic with a special name? Or is this something only the fashion industry has access to?

I mainly sew flags, banners and other promotional products. Lately we've been expanding into a small production shop, so our workload has gone up a lot and my current machine just can't keep up.

After a few hours of continuous sewing it starts overheating, the stitch quality drops and I end up redoing more finished pieces than I'd like.

For those running similar production volumes what machines are you using? What's been reliable for daily all-day use?

Currently in the lrocess of buying a sewing machine, and a bunch of accessories for it (boobins, needles, feet that it does include and such), and I came across a lot of types of sewing thread, I heard a lot of good things about gutterman so I'll check that out, but does the shape if the base of it matter? (Incase you don't understand look at the picture)

Details: I'm designing a red wrap maternity dress with a ruffled hem for myself. It's for casual daily wear.

These are the ideas I've explored so far (images 1-3) and my original inspiration (images 4-5).

Because I'm pregnant, the waist line can be raised but not lowered. I can change almost anything else: hem length, neckline, skirt shape, number of ruffles, etc. I can add embroidery/lace/decoration, too. I can also choose any fabric as long as it has drape: charmeuse, velvet, crepe de chine, cotton gauze...

I am making this crochet purse (I included a photo of what it is based off of) and am now ready to sew the liner in. I didn’t realize how much of a nightmare this is!

I did hand stitch (back stitch) one side but it looked so awful I ripped it out. I am using beige thread and therefore it is very noticeable inside the purse,on the white inside liner, which is OK with me, however, the line was all jagged and crooked, and looked terrible.

I am actually a decent hand stitcher, but it was impossible to see inside the purse to put my needle in so that I was creating a straight line.

I am looking for any help or suggestions on how to do this!!!

I’m wearing this pair of thigh-high boots in an upcoming play. When I have them on, the zippers hit into each other on the inside of my leg. Also worried they will rip my tights.

Any ideas to help smooth it out/reduce friction? I was thinking of some kind of cover?

How much extra space would you add to the side panels of a bodice if you were making lace up ties in either side?

Would the added space be able to accommodate putting the dress on and off without a zipper or any other closure?

Would you start with a fitted bodice? Or a loose fit bodice?

Would there be a big difference if you did the lace up at the side of a wider front panel? (Versus on the side panel?)

I’m really trying to recreate this skirt but I can’t figure out how to make the pattern since it has a drawstring elastic waist. I know all the steps to take for construction it’s just patterning that’s confusing me.

I plan to make it in a cotton that does not have stretch.

First I copied a skirt I already owned but when I tried on the toile it stretched at my butt.

Please, if you have any free video tutorials that would be so helpful.

Hello- have an older basic machine I use a few times a year. This is one of my first times trying to sew a thinner fabric which I am upcycling to make a pillow case. Can someone provide advice?

I have switched to a size 70/10 needle, lowered my upper tension, selected one of my thinner threads, dusted my lower bobbin compartment and most recently affixed tissue paper trying to stabilize the fabric ( hoping to avoid buying more things). Would appreciate some more seasoned help!

Photos start with most recent, therefore my first attempt is shown last and did not include my above troubleshooting steps.

I want to make thigh high socks with pvc fabric (looks simaler, but works a bit different than latex) it does stretch, but the seams start to rip when I put my heel in but the pvc needs to be tight to lessen wrinkles. How might I improve the seams/sewing without buying latex? Do I use glue?

I inherited a Pfaff tiptronic 2020 from my husbands grandmother. I am not sure how long it has been sitting unused but when I tried to use it the presser foot is stuck. The lever has resistance however the presser bar doesn’t move.

Any help is appreciated!

I’ve had this sewing machine for about 2 years now and it’s given me nothing but trouble 😭

Every project I’ve done has involved me needing to rethread like every other minute. I’ve watched countless tutorials and read over the manual but I can’t seem to figure out why my thread either comes loose or snaps out of nowhere. Sometimes I’ll be having a really good run and then I pause to readjust, and boom, the thread comes out.

I want to blame the machine but I figure there are plenty of people out there with the same one that are doing just fine, so it must be my mistake. I know which way the bobbin must spin, that I need to turn the handle towards me, I have the tension set to the recommended way, I follow all the steps for the top thread and hold the threads together when I first begin and my needle is in good condition. My machine is clean as well since I’m constantly having to check to make sure there isn’t any stuck thread.

I feel like I’m doing everything right but maybe there’s just one thing I’m missing. If anyone has any advice please let me know. I’m considering just starting to hand sew at this point 🫩

Can anyone help me diagnose and/or fix my issue? I’m unable to press the foot pedal lightly enough to get a slow stitching speed. The pedal is electronic. TIA!!

So my wife dropped her brother 1034dx serger and the spool based broke. 😞 I can find replace spool bases for 1034, does anyone know if this will fit on 1034dx before I buy it?? Thank you.

Regarding the flair- I'd put myself at advanced beginner/intermediate. I'm ready for a machine upgrade, since my Singer 6234 broke and always had tension issues anyway, and the cheap secondhand machine I got to fill the gap while looking for something nicer makes me curse more than it's worth.
