Seedbox Vendor List

Visit the seedbox-recommendation channel on our discord. It is a much better format for provider recommendations.

Discord Server Link | Recommendation Channel Link

Please limit seedbox recommendation requests to top level comments in this megathread, unless you meet one of the exceptions, which are defined here.

Please use the recommendation form for your request:

1) Are you OK with direct message offers from vendors?

NO (the default status is OPT OUT. Unless the user changes this to YES assume NO)

2) What are your main reasons for wanting a seedbox?

Answer here...

3) Are you okay with sharing hardware resources with other users [shared] or do you need the seedbox hardware dedicated to just you [dedicated]?

...

4) Do you want someone else to be responsible for maintaining the seedbox software (operating system, applications) [managed] or do you want to do it all yourself [unmanaged]?

...

5) Please describe your seedbox experience. (You may wish to list any seedbox providers you've been with before.)

...

6) Please describe your experience with Linux. (Most seedboxes run Linux and some knowledge of it may be helpful.)

...

7) What is the high end of your budget? (Please give a specific amount and a currency. "Cheap" might mean something different to one person than it does to another.)

...

8) Do you have preferences or requirements concerning payment? (Paypal, Bitcoin, etc.)

...

9) Do you plan to use public trackers?

...

10) What kind of connection speed do you need? (Common answers would be 100Mbps, 1Gbps, 2Gbps, 10Gbps.)

...

11) How much combined upload and download traffic do you expect each month? Include download of files from the seedbox to your local computer. If you don't know, tell us what upload amount per month would realistically make you very happy with your seedbox.

...

12) What is the minimum disk space you need?

...

13) Do you require a specific type of mass storage? (HDD, SSD, NVMe SSD) If other than HDD, please explain why you think you need this.

...

14) Do you require a specific torrent client?

...

15) Do you require any other applications on the seedbox? (e.g. Plex, Subsonic, Radarr)

...

16) Do you require SSH access to the command line?

...

17) Do you require access to a remote desktop?

...

18) Do you require admin level (i.e. 'root') access? If yes, please explain why.

...

19) Do you have any other specific requirements?

...

20) Is there any other information you think might help in getting a useful recommendation?

...

Note: You may make a standalone request post if you don't get a response 48 hours after commenting in this thread, but we request that you notify the mods first so it isn't removed by mistake.

Going forward, I've set up recurring posts so the megathread will be automatically unstickied and replaced by a new thread Thursday Night/Friday morning every week. Hopefully the added visibility will allow for more responses to comments.

Question Can you use like cloud backup/storage or best not to?

Seedboxes can you use them like that? Is it recommended ?

I would think not. Just wondering if it is possible to use a seedbox like that and if anyone does ?

Discussion Seedbox with NAS

Looking into setting up a seedbox with a home NAS.

I’ve setup qbitorrent with gluetun in docker on my local machine as practice. I’ve educated myself on the *arr stack and I’m confident I could set this up locally too.

I am sourcing parts for a small NAS (4TB useable) which would serve home devices via jellyfin/ plex/ jellyseer whatever. So I can watch my Linux iso’s locally (not interested in remote connections away from home network)

My questions are:

1. What are the nuances of setting up a seedbox with the *arr stack and pulling files down to a NAS?

- how do people stay protected whilst doing so?
- how much config is involved in setting up the stack, as many providers advertise one click installs and ease of setup?
- There’s a gap in my knowledge re: private vs public trackers and how to join a private tracker.

2. How have others setup the seedbox NAS combo?

- what are they running on the seedbox and on the NAS?
- how would they change it if they started again?
- Did they encounter any difficulties streaming to devices?

My aims are to own and stream my isos locally, not just pay to host them on a box. To learn and enjoy setting up a home lab. To give back by having a good ratio. To protect myself whilst doing so.

Discussion Autobrr with RapidSeedbox Swift plan

Hi guys.
I am kind of new to everything seedbox and I want to get into Avistaz. So, I am looking at buying the Lean Swift package from RapidSeedbox and getting my invite.
And I was thinking to setup autobrr and qbittorrent to farm ratio on a couple of trackers while I have the seedbox. I know RapidSeedbox doesn’t provide a way to add autobrr in the seedbox but can I connect remotely to the qbittorrent in the seedbox through my locally run autobrr instance?
Judging by the lack of information online, I dont think this is allowed. But just wanted to check, maybe I am missing something.
If not, is there any other automated way to farm ratio using this plan?

Discussion Torrent stuck in Queued status

I'm on seedbox io running ruTorrent v4. I'm trying to download a 4k remux of a popular movie, file size is rather large 156GB. Except for the file size (the largest I'm currently seeding is about 88GB), this is something I do all day every day without fail. But this one is stuck in Queued status and won't start. At first I thought maybe the tracker was glitching so I deleted it from my client with the intention of re-adding it. No joy. I'm on several private trackers that have this particular release, each with many many seeds, I've tried each of them and none will get past Queued status. I tried a different release of the same movie, same file size, still no go. The only commonality that I'm aware of between two different releases across three different private trackers is the large file size. I wouldn't have thought that would be an issue but it's all I got right now. I'm hoping there's simply a setting I'm missing.

Discussion Need help re: Seedhost, qBittorrent, and Qui

I am currently in the process of trying to migrate two instances of ruTorrent on Seedhost to qBittorrent.

I have two instances because I have two sites that I regularly post to and torrent from. One is private, one is public, often the same file is posted to both places with (perhaps) the filename edited, so I've gotten comfortable creating hardlinks in WinSCP in order to seed to both places. I also use hardlinks to add the files to my personal library in a way that is best for my media server (Audiobookshelf.)

I do all the creation of hardlinks manually. (I know, theoretically, that Readarr can do this, but when I try to load my existing library into Readarr, it starts searching for books I've already got and just gets...messy. Perhaps I have the configuration wrong, but I can't find the "right" way.)

Ideally, I would like two instances of qBittorrent (one for each site), but Seedhost doesn't offer that, nor could their support tell me how to do it myself.

I do know how to access SSH, but trying to use the manual installation instructions for installing qBittorrent for didn't work, and I'm not comfortable enough navigating SSH (via PuTTy) to experiment in order to figure out why.

My first question: Is it possible to create a second qBittorrent instance manually on Seedhost, and if so, is there a guide somewhere I can follow to do it?

Today, I found Qui, and hooboy, this could be a game changer if I could figure out how to use it. It appears that it could automate that cross-seeding, complete with creating the hardlinks, but I can't figure out how to configure it.

I've already moved some torrents from the ruTorrent2 instance (the private server) into my (single) qBittorrent instance, and I know that some of those torrents were files that are the same as from my first ruTorrent instance (the public server) but Qui didn't seem to notice that. Perhaps it was because the hardlinks already existed in the destination directory? Or is this because it only tries to manage cross-seeding across separate qBittorrent instances?

My second question: has anyone successfully set this up, and if so, is it possible to do even if I don't have a second qBittorrent instance? And, again, is there a guide?

Finally, some of the files I torrent from the public site are quite old, and have old and dead trackers. I know qBittorrent is a bit more resilient than ruTorrent with regards to handling a lot of dead trackers, but ideally I would like to cull them if possible so as not to test the limits of that resilience.

It appears Qui has the ability to automatically find and remove dead trackers, but again, I cannot figure out how to make it happen. Duck Duck Go's Search Assistant has this to say on the subject:

Enable Tracker Management: Access the settings in Qui to enable automated tracker management.

I see the place in the settings where this might happen, but apparently it involves some scripting and I can't find an example of this type of script to attempt my monkey-see, monkey-do scripting. I haven't had much luck asking AI for assistance in creating a script that works for this.

My third question: Is there an example of a script that does this somewhere, and if so, where?

Thanks in advance.

Question When do you think ultra.cc is going to have more inventory in the Metaliux line?

I missed the original announcement and by the time I saw the new Metaliux tiers they were all sold out in Canada and only have a few of the lower tiers in Singapore. I'm disappointed because I really need something larger than the legacy systems I'm on now but support has no information about when they'll have more. Any inside knowledge here?

Question Is a seedbox in the EU safe for torrenting?

I'm asking myself why so many SB providers host in the Netherlands? I'm in the EU myself. Isn't there a big risk that the provider has to hand out your personal data to the authorities? Why not host this in, let's say, India?

Question Is a seedbox worth it compared to just torrenting with a VPN?

For music, I plan to mostly use Soulseek, though very rarely there are some stuff that are not on there so being able to request on a private trackers might be beneficial. For films & TV shows, there are various films I have struggled to find on 1337x so maybe something like TorrentLeech might be better than this regard, but I can definitely and have just scour RuTracker, VK, YouTube, etc to find what I need. Games are probably the hardest to find on public trackers since I usually play Japanese visual novels. And this is technically not torrenting but I also plan to download comixs & mangas using Suwayomi.

I plan to move to Japan in about 2 months where the laws are strict and I’m thinking about either using a VPN or getting a seedbox for torrenting purposes. On the one hand, a VPN is much cheaper (just 3 USD a month) while the cost of a seedbox will just keep going up as I accumulate more and more files. On the other hand, a seedbox is more “worry-free” and allows me to use private trackers. I know it’s not really a fair comparison since with a seedbox I’m effectively renting a remote computer with storage like yes it’s mainly for torrenting but I can also just store my own files on it if I want (though I don’t really feel like doing so), and it’s also a backup of all my torrents in case my physical drives go awry or I ran out of storage. I just don’t know if I really need a backup or more storage? Like how do you guys feel about dropping 15-20 bucks a month for a seedbox compared to just torrenting with a VPN? Right now I don’t need much but in the future I might; I am currently looking at GigaRapid since it’s the only seedbox that offers Soulseek and an option to download whatever apps I want. Also, is a seedbox “safer” than using a VPN?

Discussion How to most easily upload 2000 torrents without crashing rTorrent

I’m running ruTorrent through Seedhost and need to upload around 2000 tiny torrents. I’m doing them in batches of 10-20 and keep getting disconnected from the client - I assume it can’t handle the load.

Are there any settings I can change or workarounds I can do to start seeding these quickly? I’m trying to avoid hit ‘n runs.

(if you saw my post yesterday, I ended up deleting everything and starting fresh)

My seedbox is running on an HDD.

Question Accidentally removed all my torrents on seedhost.eu. Can I get them back?

I didn’t realize I had all my torrents selected & accidentally removed them all. I only hit remove, not “remove and deleta data,” so I can see they’re still being stored in there.

I’m sweating bullets thinking about having to redownload 2 tb worth of torrents because many of them were tiny. Is there a way to bring them all back? I reached out to support but haven’t heard back yet.

Discussion Question about torrenting on a Euronodes VPS

So I just got the €3.72 Euronodes VPS. Can I use it to download torrents, or would that get me suspended or result in a DMCA/copyright notice?

I know seeding is generally riskier, so I won't be doing that, i'd only be downloading. My plan is to host Jellyfin and direct play the downloaded media from the VPS.

The server is located in Prague. Does anyone have experience with Euronodes' policy on torrents or copyright complaints?

Discussion TransmissionSwift - macOS native remote control client

Post image
3 Upvotes

Heya! Sharing my little personal project with the narrow group of remote Transmission and macOS users. I got tired of the other client written in Perl and made my own in SwiftUI.

I’m keeping the architecture of the RPC client and the core app logic separate so I have a shot at one day making an iOS client from this as well.

You can download an unsigned prerelease version from the Releases page.

Here is the GitHub Repo for TransmissionSwift

Obviously it’s in a very early state, and there are a bunch of bugs. Would appreciate if you could send them via GitHub issues. Let me know what you think!
