TIPS / DISCUSSION Running spots around Disney

I signed up for the 10k Springtime Surprise in April. I am not a runner, therefore I have been working on running and training at home. I am going to Disney in August for about 2 weeks and want to keep up with the training. Where are some good places to run? I will have a car and was thinking of even driving to TTC and running to Poly, GF, MK and back to TTC or even driving to HS and running around the Boardwalk/Yacht/Beach Club. Are there any other good places to run around Disney? I plan to do this early in the morning where there will be less people and less hot.

QUESTION Anyone else still waiting for their virtual series medals to arrive?

I know a lot of folks started getting them a couple weeks ago and I haven’t seen either a shipping notification or gotten them to my door yet. Also would anyone who got a shipping notification be willing to share what it looked like so I can see if it found its way into spam or something? Thanks!

QUESTION Transportation options for the Princess half marathon

My daughter is running in the Disney Princess half marathon and she is trying to decide whether to stay on property or off property. If she decide to stay off property, does anyone know if an Uber would be a feasible option to get to the park for the half marathon?

QUESTION Virtual race questions

Some silly questions about the virtual race. I registered for the goofy challenge. First question, when I go to my race info on the run Disney site and click on the “get your __ virtual 5k bib” button (I have a button for all three since I did the challenge), the bib that it gives me is the exact same Goofy bib for all three , not individual ones for the Hercules, Pocahontas, etc. Is this normal? Im not going to use them, the only reason I even care is because I wanted the Pocahontas bib specifically and is the reason I signed up in the first place. Second question, do you have to submit times online for them to send you your metals and other things, or is it supposed to have already been sent? I’ve seen others get theirs but I haven’t received mine or any sort of email.

QUESTION Jeff’s Run Walk Run App… Or Other Suggestions

Hello Friends! I’m signed up for the Springtime Surprise 10K and I’m super excited since I had to miss the DL Half in January.

Long story short, I had surgery in January after an almost 2 year ordeal with being sick before my diagnosis. I am still in PT and should be discharged next month. I’m cleared to run but haven’t in 2 years. So I’m basically starting over. I know how to train, but I want a more comprehensive training program especially when it comes to pacing and getting to my goal of at least a 10 minute mile for the 10K.

I’m in need of a really good training app to get back into things and was wondering if anyone has Jeff’s Run Walk Run app and what they think of it. I’m open to other apps as well and am willing to pay a yearly subscription for one (I also have Apple Fitness+). Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!

QUESTION Dopey Challenge: Jeff Galloway training method

I'm training for Dopey 2027 and going with the Galloway method (currently in week 3.)

I know it's early in training but I'm worried I'm going too slow during the midweek runs. For reference, I've been averaging about 14:39 to 15 min/mile with a 20 sec. run/30 sec. walk ratio. Should I try to run for longer?

TIPS / DISCUSSION Dopey 2027

I'm training for my first Dopey and using the Galloway training plan. I've run several half-marathons, finished a Death by 5K race challenge and run shorter distances several times per week, but this will be my first full marathon. I usually work out on my lunch breaks but due to the excessive heat, I'm having to get up early on Tuesdays and Thursdays to run before work. Week 3 of training plan (but started the 45-minute Tuesday/Thursday runs a few weeks early) and I've just been getting up and running my little loop for 45 minutes. I will say...I enjoy running for distance much more than vs. running for time; although, I don't know if I'll feel the same way once the mileage really gets up there. I strength train and lift heavy 3 days a week (MWF) and have been doing my Tuesday/Thursday/Saturday runs with Sunday as a rest day.

I've also put a focus on training my gut and learning how to properly fuel before, during and after runs. I had bariatric surgery 6 years ago and have just basically raw-dogged training for events with a little fuel and sheer willpower and determination. Willpower and determination are great for Dopey, but it's also going to require a different level of fueling than I've had in the past. I've listened to a ton of running nutrition and Dopey podcasts and feel pretty good about where I'm currently at. I could probably go out and run a half this weekend with only mild discomfort/recovery.

I should end up in C corral if the posts I've seen on POT hold up and I want to go out there and enjoy the course, hop on the rides, stop for some of the characters, have a drink and just go out and have good time on marathon day. It will likely be my first and only marathon unless I can get a lottery entry for NYC Marathon. I know there are many different strategies for tackling Dopey, and I'll probably take it easy on the 5K & 10K, run most of the half but stop for characters and take a few walking breaks, etc. and then go out and have a blast on marathon day. (I don't plan to do timed run/walk intervals)

All that to say...yesterday I was looking at the first few pages of the Dopey Training guide and noticed that there should be a warm up, then cadence drills and acceleration glider drills on Tuesday and MM and hill workouts on Thursdays? WHOOPS. Totally missed that. Is that what y'all are doing? I've just been running for 45 minutes on those days, working on fueling before, during and after and going on my merry little way. For the ones that have done Dopey and followed the Galloway training plan, did you do the hills, cadence and drills or just go out and run?

TIA!

TIPS / DISCUSSION Training for the 10K and Half Marathon. Did you follow the Jeff Galloway training method?

I know it's a little way off, but my wife and I have signed up for the race weekend at the end of February. We’re doing the 10K and Half Marathon, which I’m looking forward to, but also slightly nervous about. First time doing any runDisney event, which we’re really excited for!

My wife downloaded the Jeff Galloway 10K and Half Marathon challenge training PDF, so we’re going to try and follow that as closely as we can. Is following that plan sufficient in getting you race ready? Would anyone have any recommendations in addition to following that plan?

I also made a web app for us to help put the plan into a calendar and manually log our runs, mainly to keep us both motivated and on track, as I could not get the Jeff Galloway app on my phone for some reason. I am happy to share it (it's free, I'm not trying to sell anything) if anyone finds it useful!

Edit: If anyone wants to check out my web app It's free, hopefully you can find it useful, me and my wife are enjoying using it and coming up with new features to improve it! https://glassslipper.run/ is the website

QUESTION Have they done a Marvel themed race ever?

I am new to rundisney, so I lack all the history. Have they ever done a Marvel theme for any of the races? I know there used to be a standalone Star Wars race weekend (please bring it back, I’m ready now 😭).

That being said is there a list and/or website that documents every race theme ever for runDisney? If not, could we create one? I’m sure with all of our collective histories we can probably come up close to having all of them. More for my curiosity and also to see the frequency of each theme.

MERCH Brooks Race Day shirts - feedback

I think the material of the shirts is great, I've learned to size up and the fit is better, but even still I've been selling the shirts almost immediately for two reasons:

  1. Short sleeves > long sleeves. (for me). I only wear long sleeves during winter training. If I were going to keep the shirts I'd have to either cut them into sleeveless tanks or hem into short sleeves.

  2. The gigantic plastic-feeling logos on the front are just non-breathable and make them pretty uncomfortable.

I did my first events last year for halloween races, and then wine & dine races. I ran every distance offered for both and the biggest gripe is the plastic logos. I like the designs, but wish they were just higher quality screen prints vs heat transfers.

Unless there's some special way to break these things down and make them more comfortable. I've considered getting a leather punch and doing the whole "moth tech" approach to them, but I can usually post them for sale in a facebook group and that funds a dole whip or churro.

Secondary feedback -I would love to opt for disney branded running socks instead of the shirts. I think some brooks, feetures, swiftwick, or balega socks would be amazing. (Or headbands, or a running hat).

Im running my first marathon (and to be extra crazy, Im doing dopey) in 2027 - but hoping it's a blast and I can get into 2028 as well. Will see some of you there!

MERCH Medal Quality: In person vs. virtual 5K's

I signed up for the 5K virtual challenge this summer, and just completed my 2/3 races!

Has anyone else noticed the distinct difference in quality in these race medals vs. the in-person 5K ones? I opened my Kuzcotopia medal when I finished my first 5K on Monday, and the thought popped into my head then, but now that I opened the Hercules second medal, I'm really starting to wonder why these medals look so much better than the in-person ones I've gotten.

For reference, I've been doing in-person runDisney 5K's since 2018, and this is my third virtual challenge I've signed up for. I've noticed this pattern of all the virtual races I've done, and was just wondering if I'm the only one that noticed this.

Why do we think these medals are so much better? Thoughts?

RACE WEEKENDS Springtime Suprise

I’m new to the whole RunDisney. I did a 5k for the wine and dine last October and loved it so much I signed up for the 10k for the Springtime Surprise in April. I remember during the wine and dine weekend they had an after party at Epcot that Sunday after all the races. We unfortunately couldn’t go because we had to fly home and only spent the weekend there. Do they have an “after party” for the Springtime Surprise? We plan to stay the whole next week after the races. If so, where is it and do you have to pay extra for it?

TIPS / DISCUSSION Springtime Surprise Timing

I was lucky enough to get a ticket for the 10-miler next april and will be starting to plan my trip in the following months.

To those who have done the 10-mile and the springtime surprise, at what time are you typically done and back to your room? We're considering going to epcot after but don't know if we want to buy a day pass if we won't get there until late afternoon.

Any other suggestions would be great as this is the first Disney World trip I've planned! Thanks!

RACE WEEKENDS Im the perfect failure!

I got into zero races for this RunDisney season. I wish they’d add open up some more bibs. I’m sure they could handle 20,000 runners! I’m just really sad because it’s like my happy place and it gave me a reason/purpose to exercise and train for something.

TIPS / DISCUSSION Curious about capacity and start times

So I ran a half back in April and they announced before the start it was almost 10k people - sold out. We started in 8 waves that pretty much ran back to back from 7am- 710am. It was in a city so running through the streets the entire time but the start area was much narrower than Disney but didn’t feel crowded? The start of the race also wasn’t super congested. I’d imagine Disney is about double that capacity, but it’s still crazy to me how it takes an hour to space out the waves? Any idea why when my other race took ten minutes for everyone to start? Does Disney just have a lot of slower paced runners or more congested areas? We were literally going out and back at one point in this race so double runners on both sides of the street and it was never crowded

I signed up for the 10 miler today and I’m super excited, but I guess it doesn’t sell out fast. Why is it not popular? Should I be worried.

QUESTION My first 10K

After trying for the princess weekend I was finally able to get into the spring 10k! I have a few questions as this is my first time!
Can families / friends come and cheer you on? Do they have to arrive earlier as well?
Has anyone stayed off Disney property and just drove to Disney the day of ? Would you recommend this?
Thanks everyone ! 😊

QUESTION Men's to Women's Jacket Size Conversion

Hey folks!

I've apparently become a running jacket person lately, but I hate that the men's Springtime jacket is just... white, and I like the hot pink and more visible everything of the women's. Has anyone had success in translating sizes between men's and women's jacket styles? I know the fit can be all over the place depending on the weekend. I'm usually a men's small, sometimes extra small depending, for reference. Thanks in advance!
