Monthly "What Have You Been Playing Lately?" Thread (July 2026)

Welcome to mid-July!

Post what you've been playing lately in this thread and what your experiences have been like, whether you'd recommend the game or not, etc.

Previous thread is here!

Personally, I have been playing a ton of Stoneshard. It's a great game that sits at the intersection between classical roguelikes and RPGs - so I'd say it qualifies pretty firmly as a roguelite. It has a lot of fun character building potential - if that sort of thing appeals to you, you should check it out.

Hello roguelite community!

We're Awesome Games Studio, the indie team behind the community-driven bullet heaven Yet Another Zombie Survivors.

After nearly 3 years in Early Access (and a lot of updates along the way!), we're finally launching version 1.0 on August 20.

The full release launches simultaneously on Steam, GOG, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S, with the Nintendo Switch version following shortly after.

Version 1.0 is by far our biggest update yet. Besides a ton of new content, we're introducing some features you don't often see in the genre, including a main story and side missions, a HUB area, a brand-new Survivor, a new map, a new game mode, arena bosses, plus plenty of new achievements, challenges, and more.

Any survivors-like / bullet heaven fans here? We hope you'll enjoy what we've been cooking for you!

Let's Play Recommend me an Autobattler to play until Guildrun releases!

Hey all,

After playing Guildrun demo, I realized I found a new type of roguelite game that I actually enjoy!

I’ve been suggested to check out The Last Flame and Hive Blight, so I’m wondering if there are any other roguelite auto battle rpg type games out there to scratch the Guildrun itch until it’s out?

Anything out there that feels like Diablo/ ARPG’s

Upvotes

Specifically always thought a rogue lite with more looting options and gearing up a character like you would in a game like Diablo 3 or any arpg, I know these games have hardcore modes but like the thought of encapsulating a run in 1-2 hours, with classes and build/ loot variety. I feel like I have been craving a game specifically like this and haven’t seen anything that looks like that it would scratch that itch.

Anyone have anything that I might have missed?

Recommend me my next roguelite between these 10! ⚔️

Hi everyone!

Time to play some new roguelites over the next few months, so I’d love to get some PS5 recommendations from you, more specificially between these 10 games.

It’s a diverse list, but pick any one of these you want to show love for, as well as one you’d advise against if you want. I like some sort of progression with each run, by the way.

- Absolum
- Astral Ascent
- Blazblue Entropy Effect X
- Brotato
- Halls Of Torment
- Hell Clock
- Ravenswatch
- Spiritfall
- The Rogue Prince Of Persia
- Vampire Crawlers

Looking fwd to read your recommendations, cheers!

I wanted a "Boss Phase 2" feeling in my animal autobattler, so I added this boss Rhino that flips your board at 50% HP

The game is called Janwar. It's a tactical autobattler where positioning matters, so getting your board flipped by the boss can be quite nasty! Rethinking the fight and changing your approach is part of the core gameplay, so it's possible to use the in-game "currency" to retry the current battle and take phase 2 into account!

RogueliteDev 2 weeks into launch on my tetromino-combat roguelite — new trailer, and how the run-building side work

Hey r/roguelites — solo dev here, wanted to share where Tetrogue's ended up two weeks after launch.

The pitch: it's Tetris, but line clears are your attack against an enemy on the other side of the board. On top of that sits an actual roguelite structure i.e. a branching map with events/shops/bosses per stage, relics and gems you pick up mid-run that change how pieces behave and how damage scales, permanent curses that can turn a run genuinely brutal, and a meta-progression tree that carries something forward even out of a loss.

Launch went better than I expected for a first Steam release! It's sitting Positive on reviews already, and a small community has formed around it faster than I thought it would this early. The best part has been how much of what's shipped since is just their feedback, directly: something like 8 updates already, and most of them trace straight back to a bug report or a "this run mechanic feels bad" note from someone actually playing it.

Also just finished a new trailer today, attached here. Genuinely curious if it lands for people who weren't already sold on the tetromino-combat hook.

Let's Play I bought Night Swarm a few months ago and forgot about it until other day. The game has been a blast so far.

Upvotes

I’ve really enjoyed the aesthetic, mechanics, etc. I rarely if ever hear anyone mention Night Swarm, Nightmare Reaper, Fury Unleashed, Children of Morta and they all have been very fun and memorable.

What is the consensus on those games?

Game Release DON'T BE SCAMMED - Don't buy Soulbound

Don't be scammed guys, this is another super greedy company that used AI generated content / NFT / Re-used assets from their previous game.

All information on this post : https://www.reddit.com/r/MMORPG/comments/1tn4gd6/before_you_wishlist_soulbound_online_on_steam/

The developers are putting down bots to delete and negativity about the game, their discord already bans you for a week if you say anything negative and they are banning people on their steam community as soon as you post anything bad as well.

Just look up at the reviews before you buy, don;t let them get away with this...

Let's Play Has anyone ever tried this roguelike challenge before?

I wanted to see how far I could get with a pretty stupid challenge.

The rules were simple:

  • The moment I take damage, I have to immediately switch to a different roguelike.
  • If I die, that game's run is over forever.
  • Beat as many games as possible without running out of attempts.

It ended up being way more stressful than I expected because every hit meant adapting to completely different mechanics.

If anyone wants to check it out, here's the video

Driving Rogue a roguelite where your car is your build

Every run, you upgrade your vehicle with new mods, gadgets, and weird synergies while trying to survive increasingly chaotic roads.
The goal is to create those "this build shouldn't work... but somehow it does" moments that make roguelites so addictive.
Still in development, and I'd love to hear what you think based on the gameplay GIF. Does it look like something you'd play? Any features you'd want to see in a driving focused roguelite?

Feedback is very welcome!

Help to find a game

Hi everyone, I am looking for a game for a while but I can't seem to find it anywhere online. I don't remember the name, but it was a pixel art climb the floors kind of deal. It was a fantasy office setting, like an IT company where the bosses are department heads, I remember the customer service is floor one. And the one that you get buffs from is some sort of a golden haired gigachad in a pink t shirt. I would really appreciate the name :) Thank you everyone :)

After months of solo dev, the Steam page for Lootdeck is officially live!!!

Hey everyone! I can barely sit still right now. This is my very first game making it to a Steam page, and the excitement is unreal!

For some context on the game: Lootdeck is a tactical roguelite deckbuilder deeply integrated with tabletop combat mechanics. Your loot is your deck. Every weapon, armor, and artifact you equip directly adds specific action cards to your hand. You have to craft your unique playstyle through inventory management, master grid-based positioning, and rely on TTRPG-style dice rolls to survive an ever-changing dark fantasy dungeon.

If this sounds like your kind of game, adding it to your Wishlist would be a massive help. Thanks!

Super excited to finally share RANOKA, a game we worked on for a while.
Check out on STEAM, it is a simple game of climbing a tower but the twist is that every enemy can become part of your team as you are a necromancer that revives the dead.

So the higher you rise the stronger your minions become! coupled with equiping spells and abilities and reactions. make your own team and climb the tower to escape!

Take a look and leave a wishlist if you like what you see!

When the miniboss enters its rage phase...!

Upvotes

I've recently been polishing one of the miniboss fights in my game Undying Soul 2D action roguelite.

Once its health drops low enough, it enters a rage phase with much more aggressive attack patterns. I wanted this moment to feel intense without becoming unfair.

Does this look like a fun fight to learn and master?

Zeroth - Eat corpses, exploit physics and risk unidentified items

Thumbnail
store.steampowered.com
7 Upvotes

Zeroth is a challenging, run-based action RPG (without metaprogression) about guiding a fallen hero to escape the 0th Circle of Haell.

You explore randomly generated worlds, exploit emergent physics, fight angels, demons and monsters, liberate allies, eat corpses and risk unidentified items to build a powerful character.

As you progress, you must learn to exploit the world's unpredictable rules, experiment with powerful items and use every advantage to survive the journey to the final battle and redeem your soul.

Our ambitious game takes inspiration from the original Rogue and NetHack, reimagining their complex mechanics as a real-time platformer with a comedic paper-doll art style.

Zeroth can also be played in turn-based mode. Time runs forward when you move and automatically pauses when you stop, allowing you to take your time in your inventory or whenever a situation demands a careful decision.

Contrary Games is a father-daughter team consisting of Callan (developer) and Isla (artist). This is our second game after Pathos, a traditional roguelike with 1m+ lifetime players.

We're currently working towards releasing a public demo at the end of this year.
