Hello Everyone,

I'm headed to Rochester next week where I'll be getting picked up by some other friends (who are not from the area either) to carpool to Indianapolis for GenCon.

So I'm wondering if there's a safe spot with free/relatively cheap parking that I'd be able to leave my car for 5 days or so without it being an issue?

I do have a hotel lined up for one night and will check with them if it's ok to leave it there (have done that previously in 2024) but in the event they're not would love some recommendations.

I walk A LOT and would love a heads up as to what I should be careful for if I’m walking on the outskirts of town! Are there bears? Snakes? During my walks I saw a skunk which was amazing I’ve never seen a skunk irl before. But yeah wondering if I could please get some help!

Went to Circle K off Elton Hills today instead of my usual weekly KT run and it was an actual religious experience:
* Tallboy Dr Pepper in stock. KT gave up on consistently carrying this like a coward.
* Columbus charcuterie boards — also something KT used to carry, also something KT dropped for mysterious #reasons (redacted by legal probably)
* Gas pumps that did NOT subject me to a Nicolet Law ad while I'm just trying to pump gas in peace

Some may say KT hot food is better. I disagree. KT does a few hot foods well (namely their wings, breadsticks, and waffle breakfast sandwich). Aside from that, their hot options are underwhelming. Caseys has better pizza (so does hyvee). Holiday has better coffee. McDonalds does better breakfast sandwiches. KT and CK are competing for second place when it comes to hot options, and circle K has better cold/packaged options. It seems like KT is going more in-house and their selection has suffered as a result.

Also, my eyes were opened travelling up north. When you get past the cities, holiday (yes some haven't rebranded) reigns supreme. KT north of 94 just isn't even a consideration.

TL;DR Kwik Trip is OVERRATED AS HEEEELLLLLLL. Fight me.

Hello Elton Hills Dr NW Interested Parties,

This info comes from an email sent out by the city traffic department. In light of the recent death of a bicyclist on Elton Hills, I hope people will encourage the city to select the option that could have prevented that death by providing a safe place to ride a bike - option 2 below.

The July 20, 2026 City Council meeting packet has been posted on the city website, which includes the request for a final decision on lane configurations for the 2027 pavement preservation project. A presentation will be given to Council prior to what will hopefully be a final vote with direction for Public Works to proceed with final design.

Three options will be presented:

1. Three lanes with parking on both sides.

2. Three lanes with parking on one side and a two-way cycle track.

3. Four undivided lanes with curb extensions at intersections.

This item is in the Reports and Recommendations portion of the meeting and will not be a public hearing. If you have input to provide, you can contact your Council representatives directly, you can speak at the beginning of the meeting (6:00 p.m.) during the open comment period, or you can email an official public comment to [email protected] which will become part of the official public record.

Title says it all. New to Rochester and we've loved not having to arrive very early but we have a 5:15 flight tomorrow ending in Canada via MSP. How early do we need to arrive to the Rochester airport and will they even be open? Tried calling Delta but just a main number with a "3 hours early".

Any Flamenco fans out there? I came across this cool event that is happening on Wednesday at Squash Blossom Farm (a gorgeous farm about 30 minutes away that also does pizza and live music on Sunday evenings).

There are some performers visiting Spain who are doing just three shows, two in the twin cities and one here! Along with flamenco there will be food and drinks. :)

Does anyone know a cool abandoned urban exploring place you could go with some friends in rochester ideally not anything patrolled by police or actively owned, i’ve learned the hard way

Internet went completely down in SE area around 12:50 PM, and it's almost 7 PM. Still no internet. Called MetroNet a few hours ago and revealed that the outage was caused by a garbage truck running over fiber lines. Lol. Anyone still without internet?

With concerns about possible added traffic from the new 2nd Street parking ramp, I started wondering whether Rochester should study an aerial gondola(or other winter-focused mobility options)to connect Cascade Lake, Saint Marys, and downtown.

Modern gondolas operate in snowy climates, use relatively little ground space, and can cross busy roads without occupying street lanes. I’m not suggesting this is necessarily the best solution, but would it be worth comparing with options such as improved transit, enclosed moving walkways, or automated electric shuttles as Rochester continues to grow?

What do you think would be the biggest obstacles? Cost, wind and ice, route location, privacy, ridership, or something else?

I've been thinking about the new ramps being built on second street by cascade lake. Isn't this going to increase traffic on that street by a lot? Isn't that going to make that end of second street much more dangerous?

These are just my thoughts, I'm wondering what others think of the ramps being built there. Thank you!

With the primary coming up, I've been taking a closer look at a few candidates and was very surprised to learn that Wale Elegbede, who works in a high paying position at Mayo Clinic, will continue to work in that position full time if elected. He is only going to resign from his position at NAACP.

I view the mayor as a full-time job and as someone who should put the needs of the people of Rochester before the needs of Mayo Clinic. I fail to see how someone who works for Mayo can be a strong advocate for the residents of Rochester on the DMC board. What will happen when he has to choose between the wishes of his employer and what is best for the residents of Rochester?
