Give me recommendations for...
Podcasts! I will need to buckle down to push out some reports. I basically will be living in a spreadsheet for the next couple of weeks, and I need recommendations for some podcasts to keep me going. Open to suggestions, folks!

Career Change
Good evening everyone,
I’d like to hear from those of you who work remotely. What are the best remote jobs I could pursue that don’t require advanced degrees or 5–10 years of study, and that would allow me to work from anywhere in the world?
I’m specifically looking for careers that are accessible without a long academic path. I’m not interested in coding or software development.
I’d really appreciate your recommendations and personal experiences. Thank you!

Remote worker issue
Remote worker here, and management is questioning gaps in time where productivity is not shown. It's being based off a report they ran than indicates when I was closing cases. It's showing a couple one hour gaps in time where it looks like I'm not working. I'm an okder person in the workforce, and don't know enough about technology to explain this.

What is a common freelancing Time and Material contract used by agencies in EU?
I'm a software engineer and I've just started a freelancing career. My first contract was 2 page PDF directly with a client, states the duration, notice period, daily rate etc.
Now its about to end and I was approached by 2 agencies. Asked for their standard contract and they both gave me similar 40 pages monstrosities, with each paragraph contradicts another.
- They want both "obligation of result with highest industry standards" AND that I file the timesheet that should be approved by the client. Time & Material and result, pick one!
- They have absurd high (like fixed 50k) penalties everywhere including not filing timesheet correctly, not providing timely the insurance policy, late invoice etc.
- Uncapped liability for GDPR/Cybersec infringement.
- Vague non-compete not limited to specific customer.
Is it the industry standard for EU? Like praying they won't simply decide to use it against you?

Challenges of WFH / remote work?
Hey everyone, I am a college student that's here not really because I have a work-from-home job, but I wanted to learn more about the challenges and difficulties of WFH, it's both for a project I have at hand as well as just learning more about remote work
For that reason, I am looking for people to interview, particularly those who have more troubles, may it be bad communication with your team, interference between work and family, etc.
I hope I don't come across as rude, and I would greatly appreciate it if someone could take some time after work to share their stories

WFH from different location
I am planning on WFH from a different state for just one day. My boss has told us that they want us to be working from our actual homes when we have WFH days (which are specifically wed and Fri).
I have done this once previously and asked my boss for permission, and he did allow it but was reluctant so I just didn’t want to make a deal out of it again.
I am worried that my boss/company will be alerted that I am working from another location due to my vpn. To clarify, this wouldn’t technically be breaking any overarching company rules but it’s just my managers preference. Regardless, is it dumb to risk it? Should I just call in sick that day instead? Or are the odds they actually get notified or check location extremely slim?

Has anyone received pending earnings after a DataAnnotation account restriction?
My DataAnnotation account was recently restricted after I received a message referring to suspected fraud. However, I was not given any information about what supposedly happened, and I believe I reported my working hours accurately.
I have contacted support three times asking for clarification, but I have not received a response. I also have pending earnings for work completed before access to my account was restricted.
Has anyone experienced a similar situation? Did support eventually respond, and were you able to receive your pending balance? I am mainly looking for personal experiences and legitimate next steps.

Being ghosted by my boss? Don't know what to do - Need advice
Hello, internet! I'm in a really weird situation and I'm looking for advice from other remote workers.
I've been working remotely for this company for 3 years now, my boss has been inconsistent with communication and delayed payments since the beginning but we sorted it out and got along really well.
3 months ago they disappeared and they didn't even receive my msgs (no-shows on the work platform and wsp messages stayed on one tick) but I continued working cause I didn't think it was a big deal. After 6 weeks of working blindly with no payments (weekly payments) they texted me saying that they had an exploit and lost access to their accs, they sent me 3 weeks' payment and told me to confirm what was missing to send it over, which I did, but then they disappeared again, messages stayed on one tick. It's been a few weeks now and I'm now 8 weeks behind on payments (!!) with still no sign of them. I still have access to my acc and all the tools and systems I normally use (some of them are being cancelled cause I suppose they're not paying the subscriptions), which makes the whole situation even more confusing.
So yesterday I sent them a msg that I would take a week off cause I couldn't keep working for free and I would just wait and pray for them to show up, cause what else can I do?
I'm assuming I should move on and I already started to look for a new remote job, but a part of me still hopes they'll come back and make things right after everything we've been through together. And I feel kind of lost on what I should or can do regarding this situation. Could someone please give me their advice?

This is what happens when you join a Non Remote-Friendly company as a Remote Employee.
Got terminated today by an Indian IT service-based firm I joined 6 months back as a contract worker.
They didn't really have much to tell. They just kept saying "performance."
I asked them what data points they used to evaluate my performance.
No proper answer.
For the onshore client I was working with every single day, they didn't even bother taking feedback from them. Those were the people who actually reviewed my code, assigned me work, saw my day-to-day performance and worked with me till late nights. Apparently, none of that mattered.
Instead, the Indian service company—which barely had anything to do with the actual delivery—decided I was underperforming.
For context:
- Team delivered around 90 stories in the last few releases.
- I alone delivered 40 of them in a team of 7.
- They quoted a 14% production bug rate against their expected 10%. Complete BS. They never explained how that number was calculated. Those production issues were handled on priority irrespective of who originally wrote the code. Throwing random percentages at me means nothing.
Then they started bringing up things that honestly felt like they were just trying to build a case somehow.
I used to join standups around 5 minutes late because of a medical appointment that I simply can't reschedule. I informed the team every single day. The client-side manager never had a problem. The onshore team never had a problem. Nobody mentioned it for almost 3 months.
Today suddenly it became a performance issue.
Then came the AI sessions.
Apparently I wasn't attending them consistently.
Those sessions were honestly crap. Same Copilot demo every week by a junior engineer reading from an instruction document. We didn't even use that stuff in our actual project. I still joined most of them because it was made mandatory, but somehow this also became part of my "performance."
Now comes my favourite part.
She literally asked other team members to keep watching me.
Whether my Slack status was green.
Whether my Teams status was green.
Whether I was available.
We used Teams for one meeting a day.
This wasn't just for me either. Apparently this was normal in the company. People watching each other's status like school monitors.
But nobody noticed when I was sitting till 2-3 AM with the onshore team resolving production issues.
Nobody cared that I never missed client meetings.
Nobody cared what the client thought about my work.
The people who should have evaluated my performance weren't even asked.
The people who never worked with me decided it instead.
The saddest part is that I'll genuinely miss the client-side team.
They were amazing people to work with.
Professional.
Supportive.
Technically solid.
I'll miss working with them more than I'll miss this job.
Now, here's what I honestly think happened. I obviously can't prove any of this, but this is exactly how it felt.
- I never called my manager "Sir" or "Ma'am" like almost everyone else did. I've spent 7+ years working with US managers. I always addressed everyone by their first name with complete respect. That's just how I've always worked.
- I wasn't into buttering managers. If I disagreed with something, I said it. If I felt I was right, I defended my point respectfully. I wasn't going to nod my head to everything just to stay in good books.
- Everyone else in my team lived in Delhi NCR and kept going to the office. Naturally they built personal bonding and visibility. I was fully remote. It honestly felt like remote employees had to constantly prove they were working by keeping Slack green, replying instantly and always being available.
What hurts the most isn't even getting fired.
It's how it was done.
No warning.
No feedback.
No performance discussion.
No improvement plan.
No transparency.
Nothing.
Just one meeting and you're out.
After spending years working remotely, I learnt something the hard way.
A company offering remote work doesn't mean it's remote-friendly.
Some companies simply expect office culture over Slack.
Green dots.
Instant replies.
Micromanagement.
Visibility over outcomes.
The office just happens to be your bedroom.
Honestly, I'm just gutted.
I put in the work.
Stayed late for the client whenever needed.
Delivered my stories.
Handled production issues.
Tried keeping everyone happy.
And apparently none of that mattered.
Has anyone else here worked in an Indian IT services company with this kind of culture?

Are my goals realistic in the next 1-2 years?
How possible are my goals?
So, I’ll keep it super brief -
Edit: i realize people are thinking I want to be a nomad, I want to live in South Korea.
Here is my goal - a fully remote job that I can work anywhere on earth, and that makes more hopefully but 40-50k usd a year.
I have multiple years of public accounting experience, I have years of sales experience, and I have great people skills and time management, and I have public speaking experience.
Not looking to do anything immediately, but I wondered if anyone on this subreddit had a similar set of skills and background and was able to get a legit remote job they could work from anywhere.
Thanks!

How do you ACTUALLY get an international remote role?
I think the title is self-explanatory, but I would still like to elaborate. I am a fresher with 2 years of experience who currently wants a marketing/junior product-marketing (or related) role internationally. I believe I have good experience with marketing and am ready to start working at even as low as $25/hr.
But the thing is, I have no clue how to actually even start or what to do. At this point, I feel like I am just shooting in the dark, hoping for an arrow to land. So please, help a person out, give me genuine advice and a breakdown on what I can do and where to really start :(

Meeting indicator
I WFH and have two young kids and need some way to indicate when I’m in a meeting. My husband is a SAHD and providing childcare, but I still have visitors during work hours. Has anyone had any luck with some kind of indicator for their families that they’re in a call/meeting? I’d love some sort of device that flashed a red light when I was in a call. I tried the blynclight which is supposed to sync with teams and show a red indicator when in a meeting, but I’ve never been able to get it synced correctly.

My manager's wife died. How do I support him?
My (29F) manager's (late 40s M) wife died unexpectedly this weekend. He didn't tell me how, just that he'd be gone for a few weeks. They have kids and live in a different country than their extended family.
This is not only my direct manager, but also my sole teammate who does the same job as me. I've worked with him for over 5 years, and he is the only person I regularly meet with. We live on opposite sides of the world.
I've always known him as a kind, authentic, outgoing family man who loves to talk about his wife and kids. I'm so devastated for him, and need advice on how to support him / what to say to him when he eventually returns.
Unlike him, I'm pretty reserved and keep personal talk to a minimum at work. I can be a bit awkward over Zoom as well. I just want him to feel comfortable and supported when we meet again.

Calendar Block - No Longer with Company
I've been working remotely in a role for several months. My team has had a lot of turnover since I started - we've basically lost a person each month since I started. Typically people have been terminated on Fridays. It has felt like a dumpster fire since I started, but I'm trying to hang in there in hopes that it will get better.
Fast forward to yesterday when someone tried to propose a new time on a meeting I sent over. When looking through Outlook's scheduler there was a block on each day for me starting next week that said "No Longer with (insert company name)."
My manager says that I'm not being terminated, but coupled with being the only person on my team removed from a weekly recurring meeting this week I'm not feeling great about any of this. Has this happened to anyone else?
The strange thing about all of this is that the details of my calendar are not visibile to everyone and usually just show as busy with no detail for what the meeting is. So maybe it really is a weird issue with Outlook/exchange server?
Additional Info that's come up a couple times:
I don't actually see this block on my calendar. I asked the woman who tried to propose a new time to share a screenshot and she shared this: https://imgur.com/a/fNizoTQ
A few things about this screenshot (and my own calendar):
1. I still have all of my meetings on my calendar for next week and none of those are reflected in that screenshot.
2. Two of the three invites shown are not things I would ever be invited to, but the person proposing the new time would have been invited to those.
3. I don't have a daily block on my calendar at all. However, there's a shared calendar for our team that we update with time off to see when others are out. My employee is OOO next week and has a daily block. I do not own this group calendar so I don't think this is impacting me.
4. The privacy settings of my calendar do not allow people to see details of my meetings/appointments, only that I'm busy.
5. I admit I'm not sure how this works, but I'm wondering if the person proposing the new time is seeing her own calendar? I say those because based on point 4 she shouldn't see my details. I was thinking maybe one of her employees previously sent her an invite for their time off so she'd know, and after they terminated this invite defaults to "No Longer with (insert company name)".
Monday morning update
Our outsourced IT staff responded to ask that I check Teams and said "its possible that the outlook calendar is syncing with teams." This morning the person who tried to propose a new time said my calendar no longer shows this blocker. I still feel like I've seen something prematurely that I wasn't supposed to see and I'm asking for the root cause of how this was changed. Stay tuned!

For developers living outside the US, how realistic is it to land a remote job with a US company?
I'm wondering whether companies actively hire engineers internationally or if most "remote" roles still require you to live in the US.

Online job interview conducted fully through text. Is this normal? Any questions I can ask the person?
edit: Thank you all for your help! This is very much appreciated.
I've been looking for remote work on Handshake and found a data entry job that looked pretty promising, only thing was that they required you to send your resume to an email listed on Handshake. I emailed them and got two emails pop up in my junk folder that was a reply from them saying they would like to schedule an interview and to text this one guy. Texted the guy, and he's been talking about what I would have to do if I got hired, asking me questions about my schedule and ability to perform tasks, etc. I'm currently feeling like something is off, what do you guys think?

Senior dev, remote, paid well, and I have completely stopped caring. anyone else just running on fumes and a mortgage
Six years in and the passion got quietly replaced by a spreadsheet where the only number that matters is the one that hits my account on the 15th. I'm not burned out, I just feel nothing. Ship the ticket, sit through the standup, nod at the roadmap nobody believes, log off.
And the dumb part is on paper I won. remote, good comp, no death march. so what is this. is it just what a career becomes after the shine wears off and you're supposed to shut up and enjoy the money, or did I climb a ladder that was leaning on the wrong wall this whole time. Genuinely asking the ones who've been here longer than me. does it come back or do you just get better at not noticing.
