info Why should scrap traders watch the Middle East?

Post image
2 Upvotes

The latest aluminium market report shows that prices are being influenced by two major factors. On one side , tensions in the Middle East are creating concerns about possible supply disruptions, which could support aluminium prices. On the other side, higher production and weak seasonal demand are keeping prices under pressure.

If you're buying or selling aluminium scrap, this is something to keep an eye on...

Any major change in the Middle East could impact LME prices, while demand from manufacturers will continue to influence scrap prices. Keeping track of both can help you make better buying and selling decisions.

Are you seeing any changes in aluminium scrap demand or pricing in your market?

discussion India may tighten rules on aluminium scrap imports. Good move or bad move?

The Aluminium Association of India has asked the government to raise duties on low-grade aluminium scrap and set stricter BIS quality standards.

The goal is to cut poor-quality imports, support domestic recyclers, and push cleaner scrap use. If approved, low-grade scrap imports could become costlier, while high-quality suppliers may benefit.

This is still only a proposal, but it could affect India’s aluminium recycling and trading market.

What do you think?

Machine sourcing from China

Hi,
Has anybody had experience with purchasing recycling machines directly from China?

We recently purchased a shredder onshore in Australia and essentially paid $40k more for the same machine from China with a sticker attached to it.

I’m looking to purchase 2x bailers, shears and a granulator.

Ideally I’d like to travel over, have someone meet me, show me around to see various ones in use, help negotiate and organise freight.

Has anybody had experience with this and could anyone point me in the right direction?

Many thanks.

discussion Europe may soon restrict aluminium scrap exports to keep more material for its own recycling industry.

Post image
143 Upvotes

Since India is one of the largest buyers of EU aluminium scrap, this could lead to:

- Higher scrap prices
- Increased competition for supply
- More sourcing from alternative countries

A development worth watching for aluminium recyclers, traders, and manufacturers.

What are your thoughts on this potential change?

scrap prices How Do Traders Calculate UBC Scrap Prices Based on LME?

Post image
0 Upvotes

I'm trying to understand how aluminium UBC scrap sellers calculate their prices.

For example, if the LME Aluminium price is $2,530/MT, I see some sellers quoting UBC scrap at LME -10%, while others quote LME -20% or even lower.

What factors determine the discount?

Is it mainly based on:

  • UBC quality and contamination?
  • Bale density?
  • Freight costs?
  • Regional supply and demand?
  • Recovery yield after melting?

How do experienced traders decide whether to quote LME -10% versus LME -20%?

Would appreciate insights from buyers, sellers, and smelters.

I hate the clear tape on cardboard boxes. Can anyone recommend an eco-friendly paper-based tape?

As the title suggests, I get really annoyed every time I see elderly people sorting through trash or recycling, peeling off the transparent tape from cardboard boxes. It would be great if that tape were also made of paper and could go into the recycling system along with the box. Does anyone working in eco-friendly packaging or waste recycling have any professional advice on this?

buy [Sourcing] EU aluminium scrap buyer — looking for shredder, turnings & briquettes (up to 1,200 t/month, DDP Czech Republic)

Hi all — I'm a procurement buyer for an aluminium recycling operation in the Czech Republic (part of an established European metals group). We're actively looking to secure recurring volumes of aluminium scrap and would love to connect with processors, recyclers and yards across the EU.

What we're buying:

  • Aluminium shredder/frag, turnings/chips, and briquettes
  • Spec: Al ≥ 90%, Si ≤ 7%, Cu ≤ 3%, Zn ≤ 1%
  • Spectro analysis / certificate required per lot

Volume: up to ~1,200 t/month (recurring), growing

Logistics: delivered DDP to Czech Republic. Truck or rail (wagonload/block-train welcome if you're near a rail terminal — bonus).

Who we want to hear from: processors and recyclers who can supply consistent, on-spec material — ideally direct, no broker chain.

If this is your material, drop a comment or DM with your location, what you run, typical monthly availability, and indicative pricing basis (LME-linked preferred). Serious, ready to move on trial loads quickly. Thanks!

discussion Global scrap prices are rising again

Post image
10 Upvotes

Turkey, EU, and US markets all moved up in May due to tight scrap availability and rising logistics costs.

But here’s the real signal most traders miss:

Steel demand is still weak.

This means the market is entering a dangerous phase where:
Scrap sellers are getting better prices, while buyers are making lower profits.

In scrap trading, survival is no longer about finding “cheap” material.

It’s about building reliable supplier networks before the market gets tighter.

How do you see the scrap market moving in the next few months , do you expect buyers to face more pressure if supply continues tightening?

info War is quietly boosting the plastic recycling market

Post image
13 Upvotes

Recent global tensions affecting oil supply are now hitting the plastic industry too. Since plastic is made from crude oil, prices of virgin plastic have increased sharply (up to 50–60%).

Because of this, manufacturers are shifting to recycled plastic as a cheaper alternative. Some recycling companies are seeing demand jump from monthly orders to weekly shipments.

Countries like Malaysia are benefiting, as they import plastic scrap, recycle it, and sell it as usable raw material.

However, recycled plastic cannot fully replace new plastic ..high-quality industries like medical and electronics still depend on virgin material.

When oil supply is disrupted , plastic becomes expensive , So demand for recycled plastic increases and then scrap market grows.
