I'm building a recumbent scuter with an enclosed cabin. What do you think?

This is not necessary the vehicle that belongs in this thread but since it's about recumbents, how about a recumbent electric scuter with an enclosed cabin? I have finished a few months ago the first chassis, I did it quick and dirty to try the suspension geometry and see if it's maneuverable with that particular seating position. The vehicle come out really fun to ride, easy to balance at low speeds and very comfortable. Now I'm building a new chassis with incorporated all the improvements and lessons learned, and in the meantime I have 3d printed the entire body. I'm building this because i believe an affordable ,small, light, efficient vehicle with a cabin , so it's usable in all weather would be useful for people who travel places by themselves and don't have to carry more than a few bags of groceries. At least i would love to have such a vehicle so I'm building it. I post on YouTube some the progress, the name of the channel is Hojbota-PTV but beware, the videos can be a bit lame.

I interested in some options, suggestions, advice or questions. Thanks for your time in advance!

Recumbent bike storage!

Hi everyone, earlier this year, I asked if anyone had any ideas for wall mounting my recumbent trike, and none of the solutions seemed exactly right. Until recently, when u/FitzHappens5150 said to use the rubbermade fastracks and two bike hooks, and that's exactly what we did!

We actually did it to the side of our house next to our pool equipment, and it's perfect! We're also going to add some hooks onto the roofing and put a retractable tarp over it so it's shielded from the elements as well.

Love the solution! Feels very sturdy, and it fits my trike, my husband's bike, our son's balance bike, and our son's trailer!

I saw the Japanese movie "The Taste of Tea/Chao no aji" from 2004 a few weeks back and cannot stop thinking about the kids bike!

Does anybody have any idea what brand/make/model it is, if not a custom build? I've found a few similar ish rides, like the Gazelle EasyGlider, for example, but I'm really keen to find this exact model!

Thank y'all!

Adaptive assistance Bike pedal for drop foot/foot slides out of pedal

Edit: I forgot to mention the bike is a stationary recumbent bike, ahahaa!

hello!

does anyone know if they sell longer foot pedals with a heel cup? my friend has drop foot and numbness in his foot, making it hard to get in and keep on the pedal. I have seen that people have used resistance bands to hold their foot in place, but my friend is blind and unable to do something as complicated as thread the band in and around the pedal and his foot.

thank you.

Mods wanted

Hello!

It looks like I am the last active mod here, to be fair this is a very easy community to moderate and I'm ok with that but it's never good to have one point of failure. If anyone would like to help please drop me a line with your recumbent experience, modding experience and anything else you might feel is relevant. Ta!

My father rides a recumbent bike! He lives in Michigan, is there any groups or events he can join?

Well it finally happened...I tipped my trike.

This happened this morning dropping my daughter off at nursery.

The nursery is currently camping at a Middle Age Center just round the corner from us so we drop off at 9am and pick up at around 3pm at their camp ground just outside.

I rolled in on my trike with my daughter in the bike trailer chatted a while and went to set off home. As I was turning i hit a hidden dip in the grass which tipped my trike over...in front of a load of parents, kids and teachers!

Why do these things never seem to happen when you're alone?! lol

I've now got a lovely scrape and bruise where the throttle dug into my leg, other than that no injuries and at least I know now, if the trike tips the trailer stays upright. =D

Custom flair How To Transport Your Trike?

Post image
23 Upvotes

I’ve really enjoyed riding around the neighborhood since buying my trike (and continuing my recovery from a stroke). But I’ve been stumped on how to transport it on a road trip. It’s too heavy for me to lift into my SUV, and didn’t want to buy a rack.

After googling around, I’ve found a product that might work - two plastic pet ramps, each one is little over 18”. Based on this width, one front wheel and the drive wheel should fit on one, and the second wheel will fit on the second ramp.

Each one weighs 13 pounds, and is a tri-fold. Will advise if this works, I already tried a wheelchair ramp, too heavy.

How do YOU like to transport your recumbent for travel, bike or trike?

"Proper" seat back angle?

TerraTrike Rover here. Took it to a recumbents-only shop for a tune-up, and got it back with the seat angled waaay back, almost flat. They hollered at me for having it to my liking, which is not bolt upright, leaned back, just not fully laying down. With their way, my chin is on my chest, and my neck hurts. How is that safe/comfortable/efficient?

I get that mechanics may have strong preferences, but at the end of the day, it's my trike. What am I missing here? What is the 'proper" seat back angle?

Anyone know if there are any approved recumbent e-trikes or if not, why not?

Thanks

First recumbent, a 30-40 year old Tour Easy. I'm gonna swap out the pedals, maybe replace the tires soon. Anybody got tips for other ways to modernize a vintage bike? She rides great, as far as I can tell

Despite the drawbacks, why trikes?

Post image

They are larger and harder to handle, heavier, don't fit just anywhere like a regular bike, and are slower; they might even draw stares—the "look at the weirdo riding that thing" kind—among other things. So why do so many people still choose trikes and love them so much? Just trying to understand this world.

Is a recumbent tricycle faster than a recumbent bicycle over a long distance?

I’ve moved about 45km away from the city centre.

Looking for a car alternative to cover that distance, ideally in the quickest and comfortable way.

It’s a relatively flat cycle path, however it gets windy at times.

I’ve done a 40km ride on a normal steel road bike and from memory my average speed was around 20km/h.

Ideally I’d want to be able to average between 25km/h - 30km/h.

What’s my best option?

Contemplating between recumbent trike, recumbent bike or e-bike.

EZ-1 Easy Racers recumbent value?

Thumbnail

My friend moved to Italy and left an Easy Racers EZ-1 bike for me to sell. I'm not a bike person and don't know if it's worth $50 or $1000, or where to try to sell it (in Seattle). I think it's 20-30 years old. It's spent most of the last 20ish years in storage. I just pumped up the tires at the gas station and rode it a block home. Brakes and shifting seems to work. Chain and a small part of the body has rust. Brakes were squeaky. Needs cleaning and I imagine more refurbishment to be reliable and road-ready. Any thoughts?

Custom flair Chain may be a couple links short how to best add couple inches

I am not sure yet what happened, I broke my chain on my recumbent trike.

I remember I lengthened the boom when I bought it and forgot to check the chain, I lengthened it less than 1 inch

I put a new kmc quick link on, which was same as used before.

My shifting has been noisy, it is a di2 shift on a ice adventure 26rs. I bought it used with less than 35 miles on it, spotless, but I did notice there was at least 1 more quick link in the chain already, does ice use multi link chains on new bikes?

It was a long walk home pushing the trike. Luckily I was about 2 miles away and it was downhill all the way

A neighbor saw me working on my bike and said AAA tow service would have came if had it. I am going to be subscribing to AAA if true

Phone mount for Catrike Pocket

I have a Catrike ePocket and am looking for ideas on how to mount a phone holder. The right hand grip has the gear shift, left has the electric motor controls and has a post for the mirror in front of it. Most phone holders seem to be designed to mount on a standard bike handlebar and with limited clearance between the front wheels and knee I am concerned I would bump it with my knees. Just looking for creative mounting ideas...
