Always been a fan of sci-fi and read fair share of weird stories. But this is disgustingly creepy and unexpectedly modern ( considering the time when it was written) . Undoubtedly this is going to be my favourite book this year.

my wonderful aunt bought me this book when we went to powells the other day, heard about this book on a podcast I watch years ago and have been meaning to get around to it, wasn’t until a few days ago where I got the motivation to Get back into reading. have always loved reading but after high school just kinda stopped, so it’s been about 5 or 6 years. just excited to get back into it and wanted to share, after this I think im gonna read his book the deadzone

What English book/novel are you reading nowadays?

As a kid I used to love reading a lot, and when I was into my teen years I found it harder to sit down and enjoy or focus on a book unless it was a manga or something similar. I know the reasons behind that, but I want to regain that connection and feeling I had for books that I had as a kid. So I was wondering if I took time to sit down and read the things I find easier to read (like manga and whatever), would I eventually get more comfortable with a normal novel? I have a ton of books and I really do love them, but I just haven’t read them and I don’t want them to collect dust.

So I'm reading Immortal Consequences by I.V. Marie right now, and something this author has done very well is embedding information into dialogue instead of info dumping like an amature.

I love that.

What this also made me realise that this quality of her work only stood out to me because I write as well. Earlier, I used to be able to immerse myself completely in any book. Since I've picked up the habit of writing, that particular escape is harder to find.

I already read the first book of this series which was Tourist Season and I just started Harvest Season by Brynne Weaver.

I made a goal this year to read 26 books. Last year I read like 5, so this was a big jump. And I’m well on my way - I’ve read 16 so far. I wanted to replace other hobbies (mindless scrolling / tv watching after work), help myself focus, maybe improve my vocabulary. Not to be cliche, but I’ve actually really enjoyed this goal, the stories, the deep focus I now am able to maintain for hours. This hobby suites me.

Now, I’ve always been a slow reader. But I feel weird glossing over /skimming. I read nearly every word in my head and maybe that is just part of my own imagination but it lends to really slow reading. I’m usually at a minute a page but this obviously depends on the book.

I’d really like to read quicker so that I can learn more about my tastes and also so that I can be exposed to more ideas and impactful stories. So…how can I go about this? Any tips are appreciated.

I’m only a few chapters in and I love this book so far. I don’t think I’ve ever been so easily immersed in a book before. I love Misaki. Setsuko is ok but she needs to be nicer towards her mom. Calling her a nut is WILDDDDD. Give that woman a break. She raised 9 kids lol

Hi guys, I am looking for a a good read. Does someone has a advice for a book about today’s religions base? Like for example is Jesus/mohammed and so on related to legends / folktales from before and explanations that goes in these directions?

I remember that I saw in the 90‘s or ersly 20‘s a „documenta“ named Zeitgeist. So something in this direction but maybe with less conspiracy character.

I read in German. So if there is a famous book that was also translated, that would be awesome but I can do my research of you give me some hints.

Never read this when I was younger. Just started it this week and so far it is enjoyable. I’ve only read Huck Finn by Twain many years ago in school and remember liking his writing. Any other fans?

I love every author in this collection, and I can’t wait to complete it. Before I begin my review, here are all the trigger warnings I found while reading…

If any of these trigger you, please do not read this book. Moving along, I have to give credit to Hill, since I’ve never read a “tree horror” book as scary as this. I love his writing style, as it was great and over the top. It’s barely 46 pages, and my goodness, what a powerhouse of a freaky read.

The main character, Dennis, was someone I loathed. Hill’s character development of Dennis was surreal. I hated him and was hooked on what kind of karma was coming his way. I would never ruin a book for anyone, so no spoilers here, but this was fantastic from start to finish.

As always with Hill’s work, I enjoyed his references in this book. As a coffee lover, it was great to see Dunkin’ mentioned, and of course, The Lord of the Rings thanks to Ents. I love LOTR, but the tree horror found here was so wild, I made many weird faces while reading.

The backstory and insight in “Jackknife,” with its uniquely written tree horror, were compelling and felt like they could have easily been part of The Conjuring universe. This was a genuine page-turner that I couldn’t put down from the sheer horror of it all.

When it comes to the ending, this was on the level of Stephen King because I didn’t see that coming at all. I finished this book with a huge smile on my face, thanks to a beyond satisfying ending that has a “drop-the-mic” moment and proves why Hill is such a phenomenal author. The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree. Get it? Tree? Tree horror? Okay, I’ll see myself out now.

I give “Jackknife” by Joe Hill (The Shivers Collection #1) a 5/5 for being one hell of a fun ride with a refreshing take on tree horror. Seriously, you’ll probably never want to look at a barren tree the same ever again after reading this short story. I’m so excited to dive into the rest of this collection.

Now, if you’ll excuse me, since I already found a jackknife, it’s time to go hang out in an indigo room.

I’m a decent reader, nothing crazy but maybe 10-12 books a year. I read everything on my Kindle but I have been wanting to get a book shelf and also buy copies of all the books I’ve read. Is this dumb? How do you all like your book shelves? I just thought it would be nice to have them physically and displayed instead of just on the kindle. TIA!

Highly recommend both series.

Rememberance of Earth’s Past left me feeling in awe, such an imaginative sci-fi story.

The Kingkiller Chronicle left me feeling a sense of wonder and excitement for the elusive third book.

Just finished a reread of The Hobbit, and I need to share a possible unpopular opinion: Bilbo was extraordinarily brave, much braver than Frodo. He saved Thorin and Company more than three times, when all he was supposed to do was to be a burglar. Thoughts?

Haven’t read in 10+ years and am looking to get back into it. I’m about a third through Project Hail Mary but find it rather slow (will finish).

I tend to watch a lot of psychological, crime, thriller, sci fi tv, looking for suggestions.

I'll be getting an infrared sauna for home soon and wondering if people have any experience with reading in them? I assume the heat is bad for ereaders and not good for the glue and ink in physical books.

“Carry Me to My Grave” by Christopher Golden is a horror novel that was so refreshingly unique, it completely blew my mind. This is the first time I’ve ever read Golden, and I’m genuinely impressed. His writing skills are exceptional, and this was one hell of a jam-packed read.

Before I dive into my horror book review, here are all the trigger warnings I found while reading:

- Parental abuse (physical)
- Self-harm
- Religion

If any of these trigger you, please do not read this novel. Moving along, I loved how this book started off with a horror mystery right at the start. I had no idea what was going on, why it was going on, and what made one of the main characters, Mary Wise, so special. It added a nice element of suspense to the entire story, and my goodness, was it wild.

Don’t worry, no spoilers here, but this was one creepy as hell story. Golden ​sure knows how to write a killer story, as this was outstanding. I loved the cast of characters, villains, and everyone else in between. There was zero fluff here, and I couldn’t read this book fast enough since there was so much going on. Nothing was confusing or dragged on at all. It was just awesome, old-fashioned horror taken to the next level with familiar tropes, but written in a way that I guarantee you’ve never read anything like this.

For me, I love horror books that are one-of-a-kind. I don’t want the same tropes done for the billionth time, but something that stands out from the rest. This was a deeply unsettling book with an original twist, and horror events and situations that literally made me make weird faces while reading.

​My goodness, Golden brought the horror ​big time in this one, in such a brutal, visceral, wild kind of way. I loved every moment of it, from all the gore, bloodshed, violence, and again, things I’ve never read before which made my horror-loving heart smile. Several of these scenes were action-packed and gave me a natural adrenaline rush from this epic journey across different places​ on a timer​ with the clock ticking.

Eventually, this journey would come to a​ bloody end in one of the most unpredictable and thrilling ways. I loved the climactic race to the end, especially when this massive horror mystery starts to finally unravel, and you get the true backstory that helped fill all the gaps. The clarity I got once things were revealed just left my jaw on the floor. The ending was incredible, satisfying, and Golden just earned himself a brand new reader in me. I plan to read more of his work in the future because this was a horror novel masterpiece.

I give “Carry Me to My Grave” by Christopher Golden a 5-Star rating out of 5. This has everything I look for in a horror novel, and then some. The storytelling, characters, plot twists, and horror are all top-notch. I regret not getting into Golden sooner, because this was a powerhouse of a read, and it checks all the boxes for a story horror readers will remember for many years to come.

Mary Wise will take your eyes.

I decided to give Christopher Buehlman 1 more chance bc I’m in this “hey let’s try out horror and I like vampire stories” kind of mind set currently, I’m so glad I did.

I loved the characters, the blunt violence and the evilness. It’s was a good one. Purely only my opinion, mileage may vary.

I just finished reading these a few days ago. Some of the best thriller books I’ve read. The plot twists are absolutely great.

Book 1, The Housemaid: I really believed Andrew in the beginning. At the end, I regretted believing Andrew and felt so bad for Nina.

Book 2, The Housemaid’s Secret: I really thought Wendy was the victim.

Book 3, The Housemaid Is Watching: Finally thought Millie and her family would live happily but nope. I also loved the reference to the first book.

Book 3, The Housemaid's Wedding: Short and fast paced but again, the plot twists are absolutely great.

I really wished she wrote more books that are part of these series😭
