Moderator Announcement šŸ“Œ PSA: Can’t Add Family/Friends to Your List? Read This First

This is coming up constantly so pinning it here.

What changed (as of June 16): Qatar introduced ā€œMy Listā€ and ā€œFamily & Friends,ā€ two new lists that control who you can book award flights for. You can no longer book for just anyone.

Why you can’t add people:

The Account must be at least 30 days old

You must have earned Avios by flying Qatar or a partner airline, OR have a Qatar co-branded credit card

Transferring points in from Amex, Chase, Capital One, Citi, Bilt, etc. does NOT count. A lot of people hit this wall because they transferred points specifically to book an award and now can’t add a travel companion.

Quick breakdown of the two lists:
My List up to 4 people, must be existing Privilege Club members, 18+. You spend your Avios on their tickets.

Family & Friends up to 6 people, must NOT already have a Privilege Club account. Good for kids. Avios pool together.

Once added, people are locked in for 6 months.

Known Workaround: Book through British Airways Executive Club instead. Avios transfer 1:1 and BA doesn’t have these restrictions.

Please stop making new posts about this. Drop any questions or data points in the comments here….all other posts about this topic will be locked/removed

Downside that it replace the Adelaide-Auckland service but it can give China Airlines, Emirates and next year Starlux a run for their Tasman money.

Question Separate flights via DOHA, where to sleep after clearing immigration?

Hi everyone,

We booked separate flights SYD-DOHA, DOHA-AMS. Is there anywhere we can rest/chill until our next flight NOT in the transit zone?

Upon arrival at DOHA at 10:40pm, I assume we have to clear immigration then collect our luggage. We then have a 7 hour gap until we can check back in for our morning flight.

I know of the available sleep/rest/hotel options inside the transit area, but has anyone had separate flights and stayed in the airport outside of the transit area?

We've considered a hotel just 10mins from the airport, but honestly prefer to kick-on at the airport. We also hold AMEX Velocity Platinum, though lounges are accessible 3hrs before flight :)

TIA!

Discussion Does Qatar Airways deliberately recognise Privilege Club elites more in Economy than Business?

I've been wondering about this for a while and thought I'd ask here, as I'm sure there are plenty of frequent Qatar flyers (and hopefully some crew) who can shed some light on it.

Over the last few years I've worked my way through Privilege Club from Burgundy to Silver and now Gold. During that time I've flown a real mix of Economy, Business and First.

One thing I've consistently noticed is that when I'm flying Economy, I'd say on around 80% of flights, one of the cabin crew will come to my seat shortly after boarding, greet me by name, thank me for being a Silver/Gold member, ask if everything is okay, and generally make me feel recognised. Throughout the flight they'll often check in on me a couple more times and occasionally bring an extra snack or drink. It's never over the top, but it's noticeable even for other passengers!

What surprises me is that I don't really remember this ever happening in Business or First.

It made me wonder whether this is actually deliberate. My theory is that in J and F everyone already receives such personalised service that there's less need or even capacity to do much more.

Is this an official service standard for the FAs, or is it simply something many crews choose to do? I'd be especially interested to hear from any Qatar crew or anyone who knows how the onboard service standards work behind the scenes.

Personally, I think the greeting and status acknowledgement is one of the reasons Qatar does such a good job of making loyal customers feel appreciated. That said, I'm actually a little surprised that the same recognition doesn't seem to carry over into J & F. Given how personalised the service already is, it would seem such an easy thing to include a simple, "Thank you for your loyalty and for being a Gold member," when introducing themselves. I'd actually be quite surprised if the service standard was not to acknowledge status in the premium cabins.

Interested to hear everyone else's experiences. Am I imagining a pattern here, or have others noticed the same thing?

Help Rejected by Qatar Airways after final interview can I apply again or is it over?

Hi everyone,

I recently went through the recruitment process with Qatar Airways for a cargo inventory analyst related role and made it all the way to the final interview stage, but unfortunately got rejected.

I’ve heard mixed opinions some people say that once Qatar Airways rejects you, they never consider you again, while others say you can reapply after some time.

I wanted to ask:

  • Has anyone here been rejected by Qatar Airways and later got another interview or offer?
  • Do they allow reapplying after a few months for the same or different roles?
  • Does reaching the final stage improve chances next time, or does it not matter?
  • Also, is it okay to apply using a different/new account, or is that a bad idea?

For context, I’m currently working in airline revenue management, so I’m really interested in trying again just not sure if it’s worth it or if I should move on.

Would really appreciate any real experiences or advice.

Thanks in advance!

Help Flying BC, transit in DOHA, have airport hotel, can we leave our bags and go explore the city?

We are travelling with carry on only on our way to safari. We would like to drop our luggage at the airport hotel (Oryx?) and do one of the night time tours of Doha. Is that something that can be done? We arrive around 5 pm and depart the next day around 10 am.

Avios Qatar airways credit card rewards

I notice right now they are offering up to 40k avios points for obtaining a credit card. I noticed that one way flight that we are planning is 40k avios points.

My question is how legit is that? How long does it takes points to get in your account so you can use it. For example, planning to obtain credit card and say receive it next month and spend the $3k for the full 20k points, will it show up by September so I can book flights?

How has everyone’s experience been with the credit card? Does it offer travelers insurance similar to other travelers card?

Question 9hours vs 15 hours layover: Complimentary Transit Accommodation

I would like to fly from Montreal to Bali, I have 2 options.

Option A: 9 hours layover in Doha

Option B: 15 hours layover in Doha

I personally prefer option B because it gives me time to get food arrive to my hotel, chill a bit and get proper sleep rather than go to the hotel and rush back for check in.

Now the problem the T&C are not clear: https://www.qatarairways.com/en-ca/hia-hamad-international-airport/transit-accommodation.html

You can now benefit from a Qatar Airways complimentary transit accommodation package when you fly with the World’s Best Airline.

This service is for passengers who have a transit time of 8 to 24 hours, with no immediate connections.Ā

  • This service may be available if all the following conditions apply: - There is no connection of less than eight hours available between Qatar Airways flights on the date of departure from the origin. -Ā  The transit time in Doha is between eight and 24 hours;

So according to these term, does it mean I would get refused a complimentary transit accomodation because I chose the 15hour layover when a 9 hours layover was available? Or am I good because there was not sub 8 hours layover available for me to take.

Thanks!

Help Advise on compensation

I had a flight from Entebbe (Uganda) to Doha that was delayed by about 5 hours due to a technical issue. This resulted in me missing my connection. Then put me on a flight 6.5 hours later to my destination, Manchester (UK).

They have offered me 150USD travel credit as compensation, but not to reimburse the cost of food I bought or alternate travel arrangements to get home from the airport.

Should I be entitled for compensation for this delay?

Question Traveling with 5 friends, same nationality/visa/flight, 3 of us share a first name

Hi all,

I'm an international student heading to Germany next month for university. I'm traveling with 5 friends we're all the same nationality, same visa category (Study), on the same flight, and heading to almost the same state. On top of that, three of us share the same first name.

For Example: John Doe, John Alex, John Bores

A bit concerned about whether this could cause any issues at airport immigration. Has anyone had a similar experience, or any suggestions on what to prepare for?

Thanks in advance!

Question question about modifying a booking for fewer connections

I booked a trip for my son on Qatar to Johannesburg. I realized after the fact that to get to Doha, he actually flew over J-burg but hindsight and all that. Anyway, the outbound was PHL-Boston -Doha- JNB. Coming back is JNB-Doha-MIA-PHL. I just noticed that there is a daily flight from Doha to PHL and that would be so much better after a long trip that was full of delays the first round. I did a chat with an agent to see if I could change just that leg of the trip. I would be willing to pay a fee for the convenience but they said that combination isn't available for the date I needed. This is my first time booking such a long haul so I don't understand. Is there some way to get them to just change Doh-phl instead of doh-mia? Even looking on my own, that direct flight doesn't appear. How hard is is to get a direct flight to PHL? Is it because there is only one a day and it's probably booked? We'll obviously survive leaving it as is, but I'm curious why it feels so hard to get a direct flight into PHL. There are others in his group who booked thru an agent and they have direct flights JNB-NWK but I couldn't even find that option looking on my own.

So my question is: what am I doing wrong?

Discussion Flight Issues

My original flight was from LAX to Doha ( 1 stop). This got delayed and was rebooked (next day) to LAX -> Dallas -> Doha with about 9 hr of layovers. Issue is that I told them via their chat that I won't be taking that flight. Told them at 11 pm and the flight was confirmed at 4 am the following day. Now they're trying to say that I confirmed the flight. Anyone have similar issues ?

Help Gold/Platinum, please help this newbie with award flights

Hello! Hoping to get some insight from the award flight experts in the group chat.

Between having the Cardless CC, and quite a few flights in the last 18 months, I’ve managed to obtain Gold Status, and bank 80 Qcredits alongside Avios.

The question is how to now maximize these for upgrades. I can’t seem to figure out the calculator for Qcredits. I’ve also seen people mention an award calendar but I can’t seem to find it. Based on my understanding, I can either purchase my ticket outright and upgrade using qcredits, or purchase using Avios and then upgrade with avios/cash if available.

Is there anyway to determine avios or credit upgrade availability before I purchase a ticket?

I’d appreciate any tricks or tips you may have for this newbie. Thanks!

Question QCredits Upgrade

I have saved a bit of QCredits and would like to redeem them for J upgrade. I would appreciate it if someone can share experience on the following:

- How to confirm QCredit upgrade availability? I heard that I can use them to upgrade at the check-in desk. Does it mean as long as there are empty J seats, I could grab one of them with my QCredits? I'm QRPC Platinum, if this matters.

- Will I still get Avois and QPoints based on my original booking class, or I would get 0 after the upgrade?

Thanks!

Discussion Flight delay compensation success (IST - DOH - JED) — Received €600 in 23 days

Post image
53 Upvotes

Figured I'd post this since it might help someone.

I booked a Qatar Airways ticket through a third-party site for €195. Route was Istanbul → Doha → Jeddah on June 19, with a connection in Doha of less than an hour.

My flight to Doha was on time, but the connecting flight to Jeddah ended up being delayed by over 5 hours.

At Doha Airport, the only thing Qatar Airways gave us was a meal voucher. Considering airport prices, it was basically enough for a snack and not much else.

After I got to Jeddah, I opened a complaint with Qatar Airways. Got the usual generic responses and nothing really came out of it.

I then tried the Qatar aviation authority, but they said they don't deal with transit passenger complaints.

Tried the Saudi aviation authority next, and they told me they don't handle cases for arriving passengers either.

As a last try, I filed a complaint with the Turkish aviation authority since my trip started in Istanbul.

That actually got things moving.

A few days later, Qatar Airways reached out to me, asked me to fill out some compensation forms, and confirmed my case qualified under Turkey's very generous passenger rights.

In the end, I fully received €600 by July 14.

The money hit my bank account just 23 days after raising the complaint with Turkish aviation authority, which honestly surprised me given how the whole thing started.

So if your trip starts in Turkey and you have a long delay, don't just accept the airline's first response. It was definitely worth escalating it through the Turkish authority.

Help Urgent

Urgent passport question – need advice!

We're flying to Melbourne in 2 days via Doha, with a 2-night stopover in Singapore. Everything is booked and paid for. We just realized my daughter's passport expires Nov 19, 2026 — only about 3.5 months of validity from our Singapore entry date (July 25), short of the standard 6-month rule.

Has anyone dealt with this? Specifically:

Did Qatar Airways actually enforce the 6-month rule at check-in for Singapore?

Any luck getting an emergency passport renewal in time (in Croatia)?

Would rerouting to skip the Singapore stopover (staying airside/transit only) solve this?

Any real experience — good or bad — would help a lot right now. Thanks!

Help Extra carry on in Business Class with medications

Hello. Travelling with Qatar from Australia to Denmark via Doha on Monday night for new job. Travelling Business Class (BC), have done so before a number of times but never with the volume of medication I currently require.

BC carry on allowance permits the 2x standard pieces plus personal item, but I need to bring 3x standard pieces plus personal item as my prescribed enema medications for Ulcerative Colitis are VERY large and bulky (and I am bringing enemas, suppositories and tablets). I have my e-prescriptions and all meds are in original packaging. Would love to put them in the suitcase but must be temperature controlled. Total weight will still be under 15kg.

Rang Qatar help today to check that there will not be an issue given that it is all required medication for the management of an ongoing disease, spoke with Evelyn who urged me to fit all of the medications in 2x standard pieces-- this is impossible. It's basically the equivalent of suggesting that I try not having ulcerative colitis.

Am I going to have problems at the airport? I am only bringing a one month supply of medications, it's just huge. Ironically I'm so worried about this I feel a flare coming on.

Edited to add that I also have an official letter from my medical specialist about my bulky medications needing to be kept at a controlled temperature.

Question SFO DOH : recent delays and transfer timelines

Hi
I’ve been seeing SFO DOH flights consistently delayed by 1 hour or more recently. I have BLR connection which if normally arrived without delays is in 90 mins but with this delays, how are other passengers taking the connections ?

Most of the India connections are I believe within the same time window in DOH

Please share your experiences if any

Thanks !

Help Unable to create a Qatar Airways account because my phone number is linked to someone else's account. Support couldn't fix it.

I'm trying to create a Qatar Airways account, but I keep getting the error:

"Your mobile number is linked to multiple accounts."

The issue is that I've never had a Qatar Airways account before. My best guess is that the previous owner of my phone number used it for a Qatar Airways account, and now the system won't let me register.

I contacted Qatar Airways customer support, but they weren't able to resolve the issue or suggest a workaround.

What confuses me is that this seems like an incredibly inefficient and extreme outcome. Phone numbers get reassigned all the time, so it seems odd that a new owner of a number could be permanently blocked from creating an account because of something a previous owner did. I can't imagine the intended solution is for customers to get a new phone number just to sign up for a frequent flyer account.

Has anyone else experienced this? Were you able to get Qatar Airways to remove your number from the old account(s), or is there another way around this?

Question How would you book this trip?

Hey guys, I’m relatively new to this and have not booked Qatar airways before. I’ve gone through a bunch of posts spanning over the last 2 years

The situation is as follows. My wife and I and our 2 kids (3yo and 1yo) will be traveling from the US to Middle East on Qatar airways. Business class is $16k for the 4 of us which is out of budget (can’t pay $5k for a 3yo out of principle). Economy for the 4 of us is $3424 which to me is the no-brainer. The total travel time will be ~23hrs (domestic US flight to JFK with 3hr layover then to Doha with 2hr layover followed by final destination which is another 3hrs). Definitely going to be an exhausting trip. Wife is trying to convince me to at least book her and the infant business (total would be $8k, not breaking the bank but obviously not ideal) if me and the 3yo stay in economy. Alternatively could book all 4 as economy and hope for app upgrade offer to be cheaper.

Would you book 2 separate itineraries (her and infant on 1 as economy and me and the toddler as a separate booking on economy) in order to make it easier for her to get an upgrade offer (upgrade 1 seat vs 3 seats)?

We are flexible with our dates, would you book a Saturday vs sunday vs Monday departure to increase chances?

Also have ~250k of BILT points which I can transfer if that helps?

TIA

Question Flying business with a little over 15hrs in Doha. What’s the best plan?

With the time we have in Doha, I wasn’t sure if it would make sense to get one of the stopover hotels or if it would make sense to stay in one of the pods at the airport. I know we have lounge access with our business class tix, but wasn’t sure if there were any lodging options within that, like the other sleep lounges I’ve seen.

For those have been, what would you recommend for a 15hr stopover?

Question Priority check

Hi, I'll be flying economy from Amsterdam to Asia this week but decided to take the upgrade for business class for my 2nd leg DOH-MNL. My question is can i have priority check-in in Schipol or not since i am only business from doha?.

P.S.this would be my first time and in my bucketlist for 10 years now so, if you guys have extra tips to enjoy/optimize it then i would gladly like to hear it. 😊
